When Lox warrior, Roclan, is sent to investigate a crime, he wasn't expecting to encounter a female so captivating he would be compelled to go into a rut.
Unfortunately, she is his prisoner.
Roclan quickly realizes he has to find a way to keep her alive, if only to explore if she is his to claim, but Omega healer, Nyan, isn't interested in escaping her punishment.
As she tries to keep the brutish Alpha at a distance, he peels away her defenses until she is forced to address the deep compulsion between them.
Setting her at odds with her own desires and the secrets she holds.
COMPULSION is a novella-length, fantasy Omegaverse romance that delves into the depths of dark, consuming love. This story is set in Zoey Ellis’ Myth of Omega world but is a standalone story with a HEA. For fans of possessive Alpha anti-heroes, feisty Omega heroines, and fiery romances. This story includes romance of a dark nature.
For more stories in this world, start with CRAVE TO CONQUER.
Zoey Ellis is a Dark Romance author who unites Omegaverse and Epic Fantasy into intensely primal romances. With her signature blend of high steam, dark angst, and magical worlds, her work satisfies a thriving international community of bold-hearted, antihero lovers.
She lives in London, England, and spends most of her free time with family, collecting pretty fountain pen inks, and wrangling her TBR pile.
Charming! Excellent novella with a tight, fast paced plot and plenty of steam.
Roclan is sent to investigate a prisoner being charged with murder of a Lox general. The prisoner is none other than Nyan, an Omega healer, and when they meet sparks fly. I loved the push and pull that came from an Omega prisoner being 'interrogated' by an Alpha. Nyan was lovely, Zoey Ellis always writes very likable Omegas.
This novella was loads of fun, with lots of charm. I'm picky about Omegaverse novellas, but if anyone is in the mood for a quick, steamy Omegaverse read I would absolutely recommend Candescent: A Myth of Omega Standalone as well as Compulsion. There's plenty of plot, the pacing is just right, and the writing is very polished. I think what makes these novellas so great is that they have the world-building of Myth of Omega behind them. A solid standalone, I think this could be read without having read any of the other Myth of Omega books. Although people will probably appreciate the world-building more if they've at least read Crave to Conquer.
Another dark Omegaverse with a page-turning story of Roclan and Nyan. If you remember Roclan, the Alpha warrior of the Lox Army who challenged Commander Torin for his Omega in Credence (#3.5), he gets a story here.
Roclan is given a mission to sort out a murder, to prove his worth to be a General for which he confronts Torin but was always denied. Roclan sets on his mission to uncover the truth of the murder. Nyan is a healer. She is headstrong and is an Omega. She is the accused murderer with a well-crafted secret for which she is ready to die. When Roclan finds that his prisoner is not only an Omega but his mate, he is torn between dedication and attraction. Nyan doesn't divulge the truth of murder easily but Roclan is aggresive and determined to uncover the truth and live long with his Omega.
The story weaves on a small plot and is understandably perfect. Compared to the heroes of Myth Of Omega Series Roclan is more expressive, that's a change.
If Zoey Ellis is continuing this series I'm hoping to see Drocco and Cailyn, Malloron and Amara, Kardos amd Shaya. Really miss them tons!
It's a novella length book with a short plot and steamy, sexy scenes.
I'm using the GR rating system of 3 being 'liked' for this thoroughly enjoyable novella. Set in an omegaverse world that is low technology and contains magic (though we don't experience that aspect in this book) the novella focuses hugely on the two main characters Roclan and Nyan.
I really liked both characters, and the author managed to include some important personal growth for Roclan. Not easy to achieve in a novella. The pair definitely had intense chemistry and overall this felt fairly consensual, so I wouldn't classify it as dark. It's a very good book to either try this as a new author or to sample what the MF Omegaverse worlds have to offer, without falling into the darkness of many other books in the genre.
There were times when I would have liked, in fact needed, to be experiencing the other MC's point of view. Characters made some important decisions and we only saw those as observers, rather than experiencing those decisions via thoughts and feelings. It led to a feel of tell rather than show at times but that is a typical weakness of novellas, there just isn't the time to tell a complex story, build character depth and convince us of a forever love.
Compulsion is well written and, as I've already said, an enjoyable read. I do recommend it if you're a fan of this author and if you're looking for a quick, steamy, low angst omegaverse read.
Compulsion, a Myth of Omega standalone novella, is now live! :)
Alpha warrior, Roclan, is sent to investigate a crime to prove himself, only to find his prisoner is a captivating female who sends him spiraling into a rut! For fans of possessive Alpha anti-heroes, feisty Omega heroines, and fiery romances.
Frustrated when he's refused promotion for the umpteenth time, Lox warrior Roclan is overjoyed when he's finally given the opportunity to prove himself. All he has to do is investigate the murder of a Lox general. Since the suspect is already in custody and has confessed, all should go swimmingly -- or so he thinks. You see, the culprit is an omega and not just any omega, but his... Side Note: This world's military hierarchy seems to allow for warriors, generals, and commanders -- nothing in between.
As always, Ms. Ellis has crafted a compelling Omegaverse story, filled with great world building, the usual generic smexy times, strong omegas, and alphas who would do anything for them. I enjoyed this story and recommend it highly, with the caveat that most of the world building, one important secondary character, and one significant aspect of the big reveal are all introduced in previous books. The MC's relationship, however, is a standalone.
I particularly appreciated three aspects of this book. First, Nyan, like all of Ms. Ellis' omegas, has a profession (in this case, healer). Second, Roclan achieves significant character growth, maturing right before our eyes from a man who sees everything in black and white to one who understands nuances of grey. Finally, Ms. Ellis sends a strong .
4 stars. Shifts in time and space were too abrupt and needed more transitions to orient this reader, and the narrative around the murder contained several plot holes. Otherwise, I enjoyed it and hope that Ms. Ellis revisits this world someday.
This is a well written, entertaining, dark romance novella set in the Myth of Omega universe. Nyan’s refusal to cooperate has jeopardized everything Roclan has been wanting for his life and career. Her stubbornness leads Roclan to an instinctive, yet intense approach to the interrogation of his prisoner. Can Nyan overcome her natural Omega instincts to remain true to her promises? Their journey to HEA was filled with secrets, deception, misdirection and obstruction. There were also several seriously steamy Alpha-Omega encounters. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Entertaining novella that takes place in the Lox Empire from the Myth of Omega series. Zoey Ellis creates complex characters, and thankfully, strong and likeable heroines. That, IMO, is fundamental, since it's been too often that a TSTL fmc has spoiled a good story for me.
In this case, Roclan was a total god of an alpha, huge, overbearing, growly, glorious alpha and I loved how he treated Nyan and how she (a sweet omega with a backbone) reacted to him. The story involves a mistery that Roclan is sent to investigate as a representative of the Lox; everything seems to be pretty straightforward at first (Nyan being the alleged killer), but Roclan sees there a mistery to unravel and...surprise, surprise!
Funnily enough, I enjoyed the most the last third of the story, the author wrote a well-thought argument to conclude the plot, although I'd have loved to read more about it. It reminded me of the politicians in my country LOL
Sexy times were enjoyable, very omegaversy (just made that up), so hoooot!
I do prefer longer books, but if you feel like reading something shorter, this novella has got all the ingredients: sex, passion, a good plot and a captivating world.
Would you just look at that insanely hot cover.... (fanning my face and blowing kisses at it). This is just my favorite series, I love omegaverse books with such a passion. Insanely hot alpha men....check, beautiful knotting sex scenes....check, and willful and stubborn omegas....oh yea. It is such a pleasure to read these books.
What did I like? I rarely give novella length books five stars but this series just has me hooked. I just can’t seem to ever want this series to end... I loved Roc and Nyan’s story. We’ve all met Rochlan before but this time he gets to savor the omega.
Would I buy or recommend? Anyone already immersed in this series will not need my urging to buy because I’m sure they are hooked already. Be prepared to want all of this series if you haven’t. I loved it. I still want full length books though, but Roc’s story was amazing.
Thoughts for the author? Kudos on yet another amazing release! I’m so hooked on this series! Seriously though congratulations on another beautiful omegaverse novella!
Compulsion - Myth of Omega (Stand Alone) – Zoey Ellis
*****Contains Spoilers*****
Growling Alpha meets Jailbird Omega - Let the heat begin!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review
The growling and determined Alpha in this short but intense novella is Roclan, who we briefly met in the Torin and Victoya story, Credence - Myth of Omega bonus (#3.5)
Roclan, wanting advancement among the Lox Warriors to General status, confronts Commander Torin who he believes is holding him back. Why? His past interest in Torin’s bonded mate Victoya!
Torin sends Roclan off to the small territory of Dorei where he is to investigate the murder of the General who governed there.
Roclan first encounters Nyan in her cell, where she is under arrest and the prisoner he is charged with interrogating. He is immediately pulled into her emotionally turbulent world. He realises she is not only innocent of the crimes she has confessed to, but that she is also an Omega and his true mate!
What a predicament for a headstrong and usually aggressive Alpha, used to being obeyed! Nyan’s reluctance to divulge the truth of the murder frustrates Roclan, but he continues to dig through the layers of his Omega’s story and eventually stumbles upon the true killer! And it is not who he was expecting!
Through this all, the usual Alpha/Omega hot and steamy scenes abound, so this is definitely and 18+ read.
I love the way Zoey Ellis always delivers a serious plot with a sexy story line and characters that are truly memorable! I loved it. Four stars!
Roclan is sent to investigate Nyan who is in prison for killing a lox general. Sparks fly between Roclan and Nyan, entertaining read with plenty of drama, steam and great characters. Great world building and a story that really draws you in. I loved it!
Once again Zoey Ellis has blessed us Myth of Omega addicts with another potent dose of Alpha and Omega scrumptiousness. In this novella we meet Roclan and Nyan, an Alpha and an Omega with a delectable story. He is a warrior of the Lox Army and she is a healer Omega, formerly from the Omega Compound. Their meeting is a pleasant surprise and neither expected to find the other. Roclan has a chip on his shoulder and insists he should be advanced to General even though Commander Torin has denied his request. On a mission to prove his worthy he finds himself torn between the ideals of the Lox which is the essence of who he is, and his new found attraction for Nyan. Together they face challenges and corruption but ultimately something is uncovered that can tear them apart forever. I absolutely love the world Zoey Ellis has created in the Myth of Omega and as is her signature mark, Roclan does not disappoint as an arrogant overpowering but tender and caring Alpha and Nyan is defiance made into human form, yet submissive and loving to her Alpha when in throes of passion.
It hit me about 2/3 of the way through Compulsion that the story, rather than the usual alpha/omega finding their relationship, is really about the hero and his journey. Frankly, the relationship between Roclan and Nyan is determined pretty quickly. She’s a prisoner, he’s the man sent to find out why she murdered the governor of her region, and most of the book ends up being its own form of cabin romance as the story focuses entirely on these two in her prison cell.
What makes Compulsion stand out from other ABO books is that unique spin and its gradual evolution. Nothing Ellis does with Roclan hits you over the head that he is changing. Indeed, he still has stereotypical entitled views that come from being an alpha and a warrior, but they slowly and surely modify, creeping up on the reader the way they do on Roclan. I loved this inevitable accretion of change and the way it complimented Nyan. She is a great character in her own right as she has agency even as an omega, serving as a regional doctor with a broad patient base and wide respect in her community. This makes the central mystery of why she killed the governor that much more intriguing.
Ellis has written more stereotypical ABO, but I think Compulsion is a much more interesting take on a subgenre that can easily fall into cliché. It’s also a stand-alone, which earns major points in my book. I highly recommend Compulsion as a way to discover if Ellis is for you without having to commit to a three-book saga. I couldn’t put it down.
I found this to be my new favorite besides the Myth of Omega books involving Drocco. Roclan is coming super close to unseating Drocco in my opinion. Although I love ALL of Zoey Ellis' books, I do love the Lox the most and I found Roclan's character and emotional development, despite this being a novella, to be more in-depth than other of the recent Alpha characters introduced by the author such as Kardos. Roclan is a somewhat bitter alpha because he has not yet found his Omega and believes that he's being passed over for promotion because of his attitude. He finally gets a chance to prove himself, having been given an investigation to look into, by Torin. During the course of that investigation, he meets an Omega who undoes him... but she has a fiery spirit of her own. Nyan is just as strong willed as Roclan but I'm glad there wasn't a lot of time spent with them denying their emotions for one another (beyond the primal urges that occur between them). I loved their back and forth, his wild emotions tempered by his growing sense of duty and responsibility, which shows his evolution from feeling entitled to realizing that he needs to earn the respect of his community and his Omega. And Nyan evolved as well to learning to trust Roclan despite her preconceived notions about the Lox. And the sex scenes were erotic but emotional -- it wasn't just about him being in rut and dominating her to the point that she was damaged and in pain. I truly loved this story and would love to see them appear in a story again in the future. :)
I received an ARC of this book (and purchased my own copy) and this is my honest review.
This dark m/f omegaverse romance was enjoyable, but the editing was not up to this author's usual standards. There were multiple missing transition words and wrong word choices per page. If this novella was available through Kindle Unlimited, that might be okay, but as far as I am aware, this novel is only available for purchase. My recommendation is that this novel be pulled for copy editing before being put back up for sale. It is a shame, because the story is gripping and entertaining, with top-notch characterization of both the hero and heroine of this romance. I love the fact that this author is writing stand alone romances in her fantasy omegeverse world, since the one thing I really disliked about her previous omegaverse romances was the fact that they were all trilogies with cliffhanger endings. The world building of this fantasy world was vivid and a character in itself. The characterization, relationship development of the romance, and the fantasy world building of this novel makes this a four star novel I would recommend to any reader who is a fan of m/f omegaverse romances. However, the egregious editing and quality issues of the final product makes this a two star novel for a final grade of three stars. I do not recommend anyone buy this novel until the quality control issues have been fixed.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The story is Ok, but we are told more than shown and I never got a good sense of the world. And I’m not talking about major worldbuilding stuff. I could read the other books in the series if I wanted to find out (I don’t) about it. I mean that nothing is described, I have no idea of the kind of technology they have, the kind of fabrics they use, or the style of clothing. Do they have animals? What do they eat? What does the cell look like? What does anyone look like? I barely know that he’s big and with dark hair and she’s smaller with long hair, but that’s about it. It doesn’t really work as a standalone, since there are many events and characters that are mentioned and are somewhat important to the plot, which the reader would know nothing about if they haven’t read the other books in the series. Nothing is explained about the world, either, because it’s (I’m assuming) described in the other books. The sex scenes are very vague, and there are a lot of those, too. We are told most of it. It would have worked better if they had been fade-to-black/closed-door scenes. I didn’t even know he had a knot or that he was knotting her until more than halfway through when it’s mentioned as an afterthought. I didn’t like the writing style, either.
THIS WASN'T AS COMPLEX OR INTENSE AS ANY OF ZOEY ELLIS'S STORIES, AND WHILE I'M HAPPY THAT SURLY ROCLAN GOT HIS MATE, I FELT THAT THIS ONE LACKED AN INTIMACY WITH THE READERS. EVERYTHING WAS JUST TOLD TO US, INSTEAD OF THE READER GETTING TO EXPERIENCE THE JOURNEY ALONG WITH THE CHARACTERS.
THAT'S WHY I ALWAYS DISLIKE NOVELLAS. TOO SHORT TO COUNT FOR ANYTHING.
ROCLAN wants to become a General and he believes that it's Torin's personal feelings that is preventing his career success until he confronts the Commander. Torin gives him a chance to prove himself worthy by assigning him as temporary General to another part of the Lox Kingdom whose General has been killed. His job? To interrogate the killer and find out the truth. Who knew that the killer would turn out to be his mate and we have our usual Alpha Omega sex scenes which frankly is the whole selling point of this Omega series. Nyan herself didn't stand out in my eyes, she was just there and I barely even know her...even until the epilogue.
OVERALL this was just a side piece the author wrote to bait us readers and while I enjoyed it, I still can't wait for the pièce de résistance.
I loved Roclan! He was all Alpha for sure and yet he really cared about his Omega.
Roclan dreams of being the best Lox warrior he can be so he is worthy of his Omega when he finds her. But his bids to become a General keep getting denied. When he confronts his commander he finds out why, but still gets an opportunity to prove himself. All he has to do is investigate another Generals murder. But the supposed killer is a female.
When he gets to the post of the previous General he tries to get answers but the female is hiding something. And when he decides to get closer he realizes that not only is she an Omega and but she is HIS Omega. Of course this throws them both into a heat and a rut! It isn't until after that he finally starts getting answers. But each answer just makes more questions. And still doesn't tell him what actually happened and why Nyan keeps claiming she murdered the previous General.
I liked this story it is shorter then her full length books but it is still looking enough not to feel rushed and give a great story!
I am trying to update my reviews and my Zoey books are a must! This one is set on my beloved Myth of Omega universe. It didn't have to be, it it makes me smile even more because this whole world is something so special. I had heard of Zoey for years and had finally started reading her books and was so happy that I did. I just love her writing and she is one of a few authors that really make you believe in the passion between two couples.
He wants to prove himself and she is not necessarily ok with everything he wants.
On some fronts...oh yes she is! Lol. This was so steamy. Like the rest of her Omega world she has crafted two people on very different missions but both somehow mesh to be on the same path. They are so good for one another even though I understood the frustrations. I love this world and all others she has created though this one is special to me. The writing style is so hot and you will need a fan to cool yourself down! And some privacy. You don't want to be interrupted! I look forward to more!
I always enjoy reading about Lox warriors. I highly recommend reading the trilogies in Zoey's Omegaverse before starting with the novellas. This story revolves around Roclan and Nyan. He is sent on a special mission to prove he is worthy of being appointed general. He needs to investigate a general's murder and Nyan turns out to be involved. She is strong and feisty. I love their chemistry.
Nyan is somewhat different from previous heroines in the sense that she doesn't hold a grudge against Alphas. She is neither afraid nor wary of them. She has a greater understanding in both of their dynamics and so doesn't hold her actions / responses against him as other heroines have done in the past.
I was really excited to read the scenes with other characters we've come to know and love, and experience more about the world beyond the walls of the castles. This book wraps up the universe perfectly.
ONE JAM-PACKED JOY RIDE!!! Electrifying! Zoey releases one heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, block busting delight, wielding this bad boy together piece by piece. A tightly coiling tempest of daunting circumstances and a bevy of unexpected events, blasts this jewel to life brilliantly. Skirting the drama, intrigue, danger and soaring suspense, keeping you riveted on a razors edge. Add heated desires, secrets and turmoil along with unforseen situations and a boatload of trouble makes for one explosive adventure. The undeniable attraction and intense chemistry sizzles, alluring and mesmerizing binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are authentic and realistic with traits and qualities that blend into outstanding personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions, it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Zoey, thanks for sharing this baby with us.
fast pacing super hot a brilliant read! Lox warrior, Roclan had finally been given a chance to test himself. He was sent to investigate a crime. And everything was balanced on the way he conducted himself. Roclan was determined to show everyone included Commander Torin what he was made of but when he met the prisoner he knew he was in trouble. Omega healer, Nyan already told the guards she was guilty of killing the General Freyton so why did his man keep questioning me. Roclan knew Nyan was hiding something and the fact that she was his Omega was making this a difficult investigation but he needed to get her to trust him. This is a fast pacing exciting read and I really took to both Roclan and Nyan. The storyline was explosive, the chemistry was "oh my boy hot" and the love is amazing. this series is an outstanding read and I'm super excited for the next book. bring it on!!!!!

What can I say?? PNR aren't typically my cup of tea but this author did the impossible and hooked me on these books they're so raw, gritty, and just primal I live how each Alpha and Omegas can tell who their mate is without having to go through the normal mortal dating and hoping they go it right with the Alpha and Omegas it's just an immediate chemical reaction and the possessive nature of the Alphas wishing it was true for us mere mortals because it is beyond hot (in a non-scary abusive way) especially with Roclan my heart ached for him in Candescent when all he wanted was to find his mate and was left empty every time I just wished we got more of a glimpse of what his and Nyan's life was like after finally finding eachother I'm so hooked on this series I can't wait for the next book
I read both Myth of Omega standalones, Candescent and Compulsion, in two days. They were both great, but this one is my favorite of the two. Although both about the same length, I thought Nyan and Roclan's story was more developed and had more with interaction and build up between the two characters.
Nyan and was strong and fiercely loyal. I loved that she stuck to her guns and stood by her principles. Roclan was all alpha but he had a soft side when it came to his omega. You could tell that he genuinely cared about Nyan. It wasn't just a I'm an alpha and your my omega so that's why I want you kind of relationship. He wanted to see her succeed and be happy. There were some steamy times between them too. I would definitely recommend reading this one.
This is the story of one of the Alphas in Droccos Lox army. I love this gruff, gentle, giant Alpha. They are my favorite. This was so sexy. I loved the cameo with Droccos beta Torin who has now become a general. I always wondered what happened after Roclan lost the challenge. He’s a younger alpha who is very hot headed. He has to find out who killed this general. He must save his omega. She resists like they always do. Please read more to see what happens. I love this world. I highly recommend this book.
Wow, just... wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed every single work of an author, and I’m glad to say that Zoey takes the cake.
I’m always excited to be brought back to MoO, especially to we’re it all began, The Lox Empire, and this time with a new and exciting couple, Nyan and Roclan. In this one, we try to uncover a murder that took place in one of the southern parts of the eastern lands, specifically Dorei. I’m such a sucker for anything crime related and had a blast reading this book!
Roclan is a bit aggressive and wild in the beginning but calms when he meets and realizes Nyan is his omega. You can see his transformation through the pages as he gathers information to find the truth about the crime that was committed. Nyan is a bit stubborn when Roclan begins his investigation but she is no match for her alpha's determination to find the truth and save her life. This novella had a good storyline that kept me guessing until the very end. The epilogue satisfied my greed to know how this couple were doing in the future. A spicy romantic read!
Compulsion takes us back to Zoey’s Omegaverse. Alpha Roclan is a Lox warrior sent on a mission to prove himself to his Commander. While investigating a crime, Roclan finds his Omega, Nyan. Nyan has confessed to the crime and forces Roclan to investigate to prove her innocence or lose his newly found Omega. Roclan seemed almost sweeter with his Omega than other Alphas in the series, but I felt their story may be one of the steamiest! Another great novella in the Myth of Omega Series!
I'm convinced that Zoey Ellis can't write a bad book. I was a little concerned that the character development or story would be short changed in this novella length story but no such thing. This was a full blown story of dark hunger with an unrelenting Alpha and an Omega who won't go down easily. Grab this short quick read for another entry into the Omegaverse. This does work just fine as a standalone but you'll be missing out if you don't go back and get all the other books too. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
