It would be two stars for now, I didn't like the art and couldn't warm up to Loki. But the story got quite interesting in the end and I'll be reading the next issue.
Loki elegantly tripped on a vacuum cleaner cord while staging an escape. That was very fun way to open a new story :) Can't wait for the next issue. Oh and that magically-powered snowman is totally not gonna make some mess later.
I have always loved Loki’s story and now that he is a superhero after all the sacrifice I am amazed and pleasantly shocked. Beautiful artwork and intriguing story line. Hence it gets all the star in the world! Also I can’t believe Marvel cancelled this amazing series like why! They can come up with ridiculous superheroes but it’s hard to continue a story line. I can’t believe I am saying this but I can’t wait for them to reboot it or something because Loki’s story line is too good to just let go and give up on. So I shall patiently wait!
this is such an awesome start to loki's next chapter. prior to this book, i had only read a handful of loki comics and found the previous stories hard to follow if i didn't read prior avengers or thor comics. for loki fans from the MCU or even the latest YA novel who have yet to delve into the source material, you can start here and follow along easily. the story and artwork are equally intriguing and loki's quips are forever entertaining. the cliffhanger will leave you wanting more so make you sure you have the next issue ready to go!
I went into the issue really not sure what to think, having not really extensively read anything based around Thor or Loki before. I wasn't blown away.
The set up felt almost very generic, the battle was brief and seemed more like a box ticking exercise, Thor's policing of Loki very dry. The only reason I didn't give it 2 stars is because the cliffhanger at the end was intriguing enough to know I will pick up the next issue.
What can I say? I enjoyed "The Journey into Mystery" with the kid Loki who was trying to get out of the shadow of his former self and gave this a try. Liked the humor but, since I did not read the "War of the Realm," some of the references were lost on me. Still, the author does tell a story that doesn't completely depend of the former comics. Good start. Will probably continue to see where this arc leads
3.5 stars. Loki is out and about doing him leaving his new kingdoms throne unattended. Someone notices and decides to attack. A solid 1st entry. The best part was the cliffhanger ending.
"where indeed? Fear not, my pretties... I am always with you."
"Anyone who's anyone is here. And I'm anyone who can be anyone. So here I am."
"But I've never been great at 'should'." He's an icon he's a legend and he is the moment "With the right touch, chanel no.5 becomes snake venom, straight from the bowl of sigyn."
"Besides, if I'm not cast out of somewhere in the first chapter, would it truly be a Loki story?"
Look at thor with his bedsheet, greek god vibes
"Your belief is not required! Nightmares are real until they're over." Oop that was sudden, cool villain
"Yes, yes, Thor. I see them too. He acts like the louder he gets, the stronger he gets. As though I'm not paying attention, because I'm not braying like a goat." LMFAO I LOVE HIM
"Think of it this way, my friends. Thor is the hammer you see coming a mile away. But Loki is the knife in the back."
Such a cool panel, Loki defeating the enemy while casting his sorcery
The way he took these, I'm assuming important and dangerous when mishandled, stones and made a throne buddy called "Frösti"? He's so-
"Elsewhere. Not far. Not close." Love it when he's not specific, like, it doesn't matter
"But you are a king now. You must learn to sacrifice for your people without actually sacrificing yourself. Hmph. You've certainly started speaking like an all-father. How do you know this place? These are the halls of the all-knowing. Library to the gods. Exactly. I've never seen you here before. Hush. I've discovered times here that had been forbidden, even to us. Odin believed in keeping knowledge secret to protect its power. And what does king Thor believe in? Change." That place must be a paradise
"I present to you the books of Loki. Don't you wish to know how they end? ... Well, Thor. I must say... Now you have my attention. "
"... I think God is dead." An enigmatic ending
"For who could ever shed a 'real' tear for the God of Mischief? Or Chaos? Or dare I say, 'evil'?" I WOULD. I HAVE. "the phrase 'too clever for their own good' is by revealing. It equates intelligence with destructiveness, and ignorance with safety. it reeks of unearned authority, which is to say, almost all authority."
I LOVE THE STORY AT THE END OF THE COMIC "I made them feel vulnerable, so they made me feel villainous." "For the first time in his nearly 60-year-old history in the marvel universe (and the many thousands of years before that) Loki is operating in the black. He's got the benefit of the doubt and a little goodwill to burn. After half-heartedly vying for the throne of Asgard for so long, he's now ruler of his own kingdom! He's an undisputed hero who finally got everything he ever wanted! Right? But that's not much of a story for the God of stories. Or mischief. Or Chaos. Or evil. Maybe there's a reason none of these titles seem to stick. Maybe Loki has always been God of Something else entirely... Now let us pray."
LOKI IS COMEDY AT ITS PEAK and this was a very fun comic to read, I think I'm going to be quite satisfied by this run as the creators seem to have a good handle on Loki's essence, who he is, his nature, his way of thinking and operating etc the art style passed the vibe check, especially with some memorable panels 4.5 stars from me:)

"After all this death and resurrection, after all these endless Ragnaroks, would it kill us to just live a little?"
"May I let you in on a secret, Drrf-the-first-of-his-name? Everyone is born small" [...] I was wrong. Not everyone is born small. Some of us are born giants.
"Think of it this way, my friends. Thor is the hammer you see coming a mile away. But Loki is the knife in the back."
and from David Kibblesmith's letter at the end:
I made them feel vulnerable, so they made me feel villainous. Loki is a story about - and for and honestly by - the kids who really try to do everything right and still get punished for it. Those who can't shut off their minds, who don't think before they speak, who try every door just to see if it's unlocked - and then the next door behind it.
a series with Loki as king and of Jotenheim which he is the rightful heir. I dug Kibblesmith's Black Panther vs Deadpool (we won't talk about that New Warriors mess, was he trolling?) so I will read this whole series for sure. Curious as to what happened to Thor during the brief battle with Nightmare as well as what's going on with his future self.
Loki is a promising start to a series I need to read. As someone who's trying my best to get into his character recently, a friend recommended I start here and go forward, they were right. I can't wait to see what I think about the rest of the series. Hopefully it's good.
2.5/5, i genuinely don’t know what to talk about. I finished it in 20 minutes max and actually enjoyed it. Art was well drawn and the story is solid. I don’t know if i would recommend this comic, but its rather good.
I personally like this Loki. The more mischievous, the better. I like this interaction between Loki and Thor as well. Two Kings ruling in their own ways.
A fun beginning to a new series, and a pretty intriguing mystery set up. It has a similar feel to Valkyrie: Jane Foster (2019-) #1, which is good since they're in the same franchise. I'd love to see a crossover at some point. Oscar Bazaldua's art is really good too and brings the action to life wonderfully.
