Unleash the Monster Inside
A mysterious island. A half-orc battling for control of his mind. Things that go bump in the night.

Unfortunately, Lugor is finding out that nothing in life ever comes easy. Disaster strikes on arrival and there is no way to contact his mentor Maric for help. The expedition starts crumbling and Lugor must find a way to keep the new settlement from falling apart.

But Lugor has his own personal problems. His monster side is awakening faster than predicted, and if he doesn't become strong enough then the Orc soul inhabiting his body will seize control. With his friends by his side, Lugor is still confident that he can take on the challenges ahead of him.

That is, if the demonic beasts attacking in the night don't kill them all first.

I can’t wait for the next one!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’m not really good at giving reviews and I don’t want to be a spoiler. But it was good from beginning to end. Of course there’s some editing issue but as long as you know what it was supposed to mean you got it. But thank you for the experience, and like the heading says I can’t wait for the next one.

This is the second volume of this fantasy novel series about a "half-Orc" that is afraid to "awaken" into his abilities and powers, because he (Lugor - main character) thinks that he will lose control and rampage. Lugor is afraid to go into a killing spree and destroy his village (but in this second volume has no longer a village because another "half-Orc" destroyed it).
Lugor and his 2 other member team travel to do a quest, because of their impressive year-end win at the Adventurer's Academy. It seems that the other "half-Orc" has abducted Lugor's Mom and Lugor and his retinue do everything possible to save Lugor's Mom.
Story is still rather slow and flat. This is the "last" volume, volume 2 so far. Because author notes on his profile that he has taken a 3 year family vacation, this story is probably delayed (maybe abandoned here). Although the author mentions the third volume and even titles it: "Progenitor" (ancestor or founder).
Orcs are "pig-like" sapient beast-folk that live in hordes and are usually a bit stronger than Goblins or Slimes. So it usually has average strength and need a horde to overtake their "victims/opponents". Because Lugor is a "half-Orc" not really a human, not really an Orc, the author de-naturalizes his personality and his sense of belonging. The author makes these "half-Orcs" into "Hulk-like" beings that lose control when they anger and rampage "awaken and transform". If the author used a Dragon, Hydra, Demon, Demon Lord, Ogre, etc. (stronger monster beast-being - Apex predators) I think it could have been a better story. There are limits to what an Orc can do. Now imagine a "half-Orc" and yet, the author makes them have supernatural strength and Over-Powered abilities and skills when they "awaken" to their unique powers. To each their own.

Impressive Sequel....

Daniel made a good start with his first book, and it is easy to see that he is growing with confidence and ability.
This book's pace never lets up, but the story and characters do not suffer and the story has travelled a great distance from the first page to the last.
I rated the first book four stars, as I believed that the Author could grow and improve. This book shows that accomplishment, it deserves that extra rating.
I look forward to the story continuing.

Next part of the story leads the MC and his friends to a mysterious island where he learns not only about his heritage but also the history of half of his race.

Good sequel. I had hoped for more academy stuff but his was also fun.
Some small nitpicks that i don't like the references not much. (coughee - really?!) and the characters could be a bit more diverse in manners and behaviour.
But I like the banter between the characters, the action is fast paced and the litRPG-part is interesting and something new.
Good one - waiting for the next.

3 to 3.25 Stars, sadly not as good as the first book but the ending was pretty good but the start and most of middle was slow and I was not really enjoying it. When I say slow it had some action but I just lost interest in what was happening and it did not pick up again near the 3/4 mark. I am unsure If I will continue with the next book if/when it comes out.

On it's own, this is fine. As a part of a series, this is a mess.

The entire idea of a half-off champion has been lost. The idea of a mentor at an academy was never properly employed. Just reading about people trapped on an island is fine. That part is okay. The plausibility of any of this connecting into book one or an overall concept is not applicable.

Good follow up

Good follow up to the previous book. The combat is well written, with good group dynamics. Likeable characters as well. I missed crafting experiments from the first book but overall really enjoyed this book

This sequel delivered on the promises of the first book in every way. The battles were bigger, and there was more focus on character development that fit well within the context of the overall plot. Definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here!

Rather short but good none the less

I read this book in a day but I enjoy the adventure. It's more fantasy than litrpg to me but has a good mix of both aspects. 4/5. Just wish it was longer.

A good story

Not to throw people off from reading it but it was an okay story. Not interesting enough to keep me entertained but enough that I didn't drop it. Its just my personal opinion but others could like it so give it a chance.

A fun read

This is well-written and has an engaging plot. You won’t regret reading it, although you should read the first book ... uhm ... first.
Loads of fun. Go for it.

Excellent character progression!

Really good character development and progression. Lugor is far different from any other protagonist I have read. Refreshing change of pace.

Good, but not that good.

This book tries to tackle a number of difficult topics, notably the multiple-persona one, which is always extremely hard to do in any satisfying manner. So it's not too surprising that this fails a bit. It works ok within the story, but it's not that good, original, or convincing. Just adequate.

The overall writing remains adequate, of not too original. As stories go, it's average, which tends to put it in the relatively "okay" scale when it comes to litrpg. If the story could be wrapped up in a trilogy, that would be good, but it does not seem likely.

3,5 stars, I suppose. At this point I still don't exactly know how I feel about this series. What do I mean about this?

Lugor, Shiva and Sandal are sent out into the world for some time to actually practice their Adventurer skills in real life, in their case they have to travel to a new island with the group trying to start a colony there. Meanwhile Lugor's village, including his mom are still kidnapped and nobody knows about them.
Which is part of my issue. I understand that the plot has to progress, but the way everyone is being all sorts of happy and contented with making horseshoes and grinding for exp all blissfully, meanwhile Lugor's mom is kidnapped by a crazy necromancer is just weird. Nothing bad happening feels like it has a true weight when 5 minutes later we just go back to fun times with taming giant birds. Someone loses an arm and not even 2 minutes later people (including the one who just lost the arm) are all "lol, loot". Now I am not trying to say I want every book to be super serious, this just takes a lot of steam out of the big, emotional scenes.

The three main characters are still nice. Some of their interactions are a bit... lol sassy pop culture speak, which I personally don't like (it can and will date the book so so much), but otherwise they are fine. None of them are portrayed as way above the others and not really needing them, the trio is all needed for everything they do. Of course Lugor is unique in certain ways and is the strongest considering them.... it's not like he can do it alone.
The minor characters are still not very fleshed out and we also just went from one place to another, leaving behind the ones who received some attention in book 1. I really hope we will see some of them be allowed some development, other than just "Hmmm, Lugor, I think you are cool after all".

Things have developed in this as far as the world building goes. I'm not sure how long this series is going to be and how far we are going, but I am sure there is more than a trilogy's worth of things to tell, partly because the books are short and also because there are so many things to discuss and questions to answer in it. I'm definitely going on with it for now, even with its flaws, because overall it's kind of fun and an easy read to get in between heavier and longer ones. Worth of a try for sure.

A fun read

A fun story with some witty dialogue that is good for laugh. The action is well done and easy to imagine. Some of the story is a little cliche, but it does up well.

I really enjoyed this novel!!!! The metamorphosis scene was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially the memories and manifest parts. There are only a few things I can think of that would have improved this book. While I loved how Prince kept the book from being bogged down pace wise, i wish Prince could have slowed the pace down a little bit. Maybe a bit more slice of daily life between the characters to help develop their relationships. Some of the relationships built between the characters seemed to have been a bit forced or a little bit lacking. Although I understand how that would’ve been difficult considering they where in a survival situation the whole book this time. Another thing I can think of is elaborate more on the level/skill aspect of the story. I thought you did a good job of this in the first book. And finally the only improvement I can think of is do not let the book end!!!!!!! Seriously I was so bummed out when I realized I was at the epilogue!!!!

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Cheers

A sequel to be proud of

I had to go back to re read book one I was a bit lost at the beginning. But I’m actually glad I did refreshing a lot so when I rolled into this book the story just flowed so well. The character sand the interplay are incredible as the journey.
Spoiler
I can see where the cooking skill would have been handy though not where they’d have had time to develop. And what level is the main character now it doesn’t wrap that in in the end. I can’t wait fir the next one.

Great second installment in the grey blood chronicles.

FIVE STARS. My only complaint is the length of the book. Most of these litrpgs or gamelit novels are between 150 and 500 pages. Most being 300 in my experience. 300 pages is just not enough for me. I'm able to burn through a page turner like this in a single sitting. Great book, can't wait to see how Lugor gets his team to the mainland. And I wonder what sneaky tricks Malcolm has on store for our half orc hero!

Oh my damn.....

I've patiently waited for Mr. Prince to follow up his debut but this........ Now that we've built the world we get to see more of it and how the characters have developed. The next stage of their adventure has them expanding and deepening the a good of the story. I'm blown away. The pace move right along, and the stats and crafting elements are extremely well done and don't bog things down at all. I need MORE!!!!

A fun follow-up

I feel like this book captures the characters a bit better than the first and that really helped the story along.

While a bit more "campy" than the previous one, the tone seemed to align better with what was happening, leading the reader t a much more enjoyable experience.

Look8ng forward to the next one.

Wow.

I enjoyed the book, and even re-read it before I started the second. The second definitely did not disappoint, and I can't wait for the third to see what the gang is going to get up to.
