He retired as a professor of English at Karnataka College, Dharwad and as the principal of that college. Currently residing in Bangalore. Specializing in the Vedas, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavata, he wrote works on the economics of Bendre and Kautilya. Expert in Sanskrit, Kannada and English. He has authored more than 180 books and delivered more than 200 lectures

ಧಾರವಾಡದ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿ, ಆ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾಗಿ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದರು. ಸದ್ಯ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವೇದಗಳು, ರಾಮಾಯಣ, ಮಹಾಭಾರತ, ಭಾಗವತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪರಿಣಿತಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದು, ಬೇಂದ್ರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೌಟಿಲ್ಯನ ಅರ್ಥಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೃತಿ ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಮತ್ತು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಣಿತರು. ಸುಮಾರು 180ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗ್ರಂಥಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದು, ಸುಮಾರು 200ಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ

ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾವತಾರದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಗಳಿಗೆಗಳು, ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹಿರಿಮೆಯ ಕೃತಿ.. ಆದರೂ ಇಂಥ ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಕನ್ನಡ ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಇಂದಲೂ ಶ್ಲಾಘನೆ ಸಿಗದಿರುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ದೌರ್ಭಾಗ್ಯ. ವೇದ, ರಾಮಾಯಣ, ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇರುವ ಇವರ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಅಪಾರವಾದದ್ದು. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲೇ ಸದ್ಯದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರೂ ಕೂಡ ಇಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರವಚನದ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಈ ಮೂರು ವಿಷಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದರೆ ಯಾರೂ ಅಸೂಯೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು. ಎಲ್ಲರ ಅಂತರಾಳದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಸೂಯೆ ಎಂಬ ಅಗ್ನಿ ಆರಿ ಹೋಗಿ, ಅವರ ಜ್ಞಾನಕೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಗೌರವ ಸಿಗಲಿ ಎಂಬುದೇ ನನ್ನ ಆಶಯ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಯುವ ಪೀಳಿಗೆ ಆದರೂ ಅವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರ ಶ್ರಮ ಸಾರ್ಥಕ ಆಗುವುದು, ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯೂ ಅಲ್ಲ!!!

It is one of the most profound books I have read in the last few years. After reading this, I just want to rest at the lotus feet of Sree Krishna.
How lucky we are to serve the lotus feet of Krishna by taking birth in the household of a Hindu family. Every time I hear about Krishna, The ghost of Atheism fades away in my heart. He is everything.

Sri Krishna’s life and teaching inspires millions across the globe and continues to be one of the most sought after episodes from the annals of our rich history. This book explores the final days of Sri Krishna and his interaction with the various stakeholders across his life time. The book has gory details about the carnage, mayhem, his relationships in the mortal and the philosophical realm, his yogic personality and its unique relationship with attachment (Maya) is highly inspirational and influential. The book is filled with multiple commentaries from the age old wisdom of various Geeta like Avadhuta Geeta, Uddhava Geeta, Anu Geeta. This is more like an exquisitely distilled and selectively collected pearls of wisdom.
One of the greatest moments of the book: Krishna also not feeling the sense of equanimity when he observes the dead bodies of his children and grand children. The conflict of the divine and its mortal representation (Avatar) is brought out eloquently by the author. The conversations between Krishna and Gandhari, Karna should rate amongst the best commentaries on the finer nuances of Dharma. Pure gold.
The circle of karma in the form go Gandhari, Durvasa, Prabhasa, Hunter & the fatal arrow is so beautifully connected in 2 sentences. The author’s depth of understanding is something to be admired. The chapter on Krishna and his mothers is bound to evoke strong emotions within oneself. The unconditional love of parents and its acknowledgement by the divine is brought out in the most exquisite manner by the author. The readers should specifically be prepared for an awe-inspiring moment in the book. The arrival of the 3rd mother. Her perspective, pains and the momentary pleasure of being a mother to the divine is just fabulous. I was shocked at one instance when her words reflects the perfect application of Karma Yoga that Sri Krishna bequeathed to Arjuna in the middle of the battlefield. It goes on to show that we don’t know much about the immortal epic, Mahabharatha.
The most poignant, heart touching point of the book is when the divinity sheds its mortal frame & merges with the omnipresent. The emotions one would go through at this specific moment is unexplainable. The debate between Kali, Dwapara & Yudishtira is a yet another wonderful enriching exposition on dharma. Veda Vyasa’s exposition on Kaala (Time) is highly relevant and apt for the current age & should be read by one and all.
As it’s widely said, Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Sri Krishna has given immense wisdom and multiple paths to achieve the foremost goals of life. It’s upto the human to overcome the veils of time & transcend towards the higher realms.
Prof. K. S. Narayanacharya’s works shall be remembered for a long time to come. This is not just a book, but a treasure trove of timeless wisdom distilled for human consumption.

I remembered reading this book as a serial in one of the Kannada Weekly when I was a child. I remember being highly impressed given it was a new information for a child who had just known the story of Mahabharatha.
Cut to current read, I felt the author was a bit disillusioned about the situation of the country during the time this book was written and is definitely sending cautionary note. The book is not a happy read as it speaks of things that like the author himself says one should not read, write, hear or speak. Though some parts absolutely excellent like Krishna's life moments passing in front of his eyes when he is in his last moments, many parts I felt were a bit underwhelming.
All in all, for people who are interested to read different views of the original classic, this is a good read.

This novel based on contemplation of Krishna's end time is written in a very nice language style. Interesting, poignant and a work that shows human weaknesses.

What a remarkable book. After finishing this book, it made me weep. This book gives a different dimension altogether. The characters come alive with their trysts, their difficult choices, their compulsions, their inspirations. The philosophy and knowledge gained through the teachings of Krishna always inspires and aspires to know more. It’s a tragic story of Yadava’s internal self conflicts and bringing the unfathomable end of their own golden period. There is very little to be read after the Mahabharata and the fall of the Yadavas. It is clear from this incident that the consequences of karma do not spare anyone, even if it is God. The book often goes in flashback. This book is a very beautiful attempt to understand the behavior of Yadavas and the feelings of Krishna after the Mahabharata war. Another powerful writings by Narayanacharya ji. Thank you Manjula Tekal for translating for this gem.
