Angel's Fate #1

Fated Bonds

Rate this book
Saving him was her first mistake…

Be a good angel, Amiah. Be patient, Amiah. Someone’s out there who’ll awaken and complete your soul bond. It’ll be beautiful. It’ll be… The worst possible thing that could happen.

Because a soul bond is no fairy tale, it’s a prison. Torture, should I wind up bonded to a complete stranger. Or worse, driven insane over a lost soul mate. It’s a ticking time bomb and I’ll do anything to get rid of it.

But before I can figure out how or if that’s even possible, Titus, the last dragon shifter, falls out of the sky and my healing magic accidentally leashes us together. If we’re separated, we both die.

Now we — along with Cassius, my best friend and a top JP agent, and Sebastian, a fae sorcerer who just won’t stop hitting on me even though I know he doesn’t really mean it — are being hunted by men who want to possess Titus’s unique dragon power. And if they can’t have him, they won’t hesitate to kill him… and take me down with him.

Fated Bonds is the first book in the Angel’s Fate series, an action-packed full-length paranormal romance with powerful sexy men and a heroine who doesn’t have to choose.

** Angel’s Fate is a spinoff series from the Nephilim’s Destiny series. It’s not necessary to read the first series to enjoy this one.

My Advice to Other Readers: Do not pick this up unless you have read the previous series.

2.5-3 Stars for me. This blurb clearly states that you do not need to have read the previous series in order to enjoy this one. That is NOT THE CASE. I am so bummed that I listened to the blurb instead of just finding the root series. The author immediately starts this series off with random bits from the last series that aren't explained in any way shape or fashion. The random bits include events from the previous series as well as characters that are never really "met" but are constantly mentioned throughout the first 53%(Chapters 1-12) During that time period I highlighted over 20 places when random tidbits/characters are mentioned but never expounded upon. This constantly throws a reader, new to this series, off. I would totally understand a couple of spots that would vaguely clue the reader in that a series before this occurred but it was constant in the first 1/2 of the book. Absolutely no world building or character building occurred in this book due to the fact that it obviously (and is made mention of) happened in the last series.

You cannot say a reader new to this world will be able to get in here without reading the first series, if that is not the case. There is too much backstory that happened in the last series to even begin to understand whats going on here. That all being said the 2nd half of the book barely mentions the previous series and we finally start to build on the characters, however little, and we also start delving into what this series is going to be about. I did in fact enjoy the 2nd half of the book for the most part. I still have way too many unanswered questions but there is definitely hope for this series.

I am really disappointed in this, only because I could have just as easily started with the beginning of the last series instead of listening to the advice the blurb gives. Now I'm salty, and though I may eventually find my way to the beginning seeing all these wonderful reviews, I'm going to abstain for a while.

I jumped into this book blind. I listened to the blurb as it stated “Angel’s Fate is a spinoff series from the Nephilim’s Destiny series. It’s not necessary to read the first series to enjoy this one.” However I strongly disagree. The first 1/4 of the book was a mild rehashing of what I missed in the previous series and I could barely make sense of it. There were many mentions of a war and characters that I obviously knew nothing about. I personally struggled rather hard trying to piece things together and follow along which was hard when I had nothing to fall back on. Of course the mentions of previous characters eventually tapered off but there was still so much backstory on the heroine that made it harder for me to connect with her because I barely ‘knew’ her.
The idea of a soul bond/mate bound in essence sounded very romantic but I couldn’t help but feel bad for Amiah who’s basically waited around for years to find her one mate, saving herself and everything only for it to turn out to have steered her wrong. (Apparently in the previous series she thought a particular someone was her mate and turns out nope he mated someone else...... ouch). Personally I didn’t really find the romance here all that romantic either. She’s essentially forced into a situation she has no control over and grouped together with men, I’m assuming because I’m not really sure, all of who will become her mates. She hooks up with one and it just felt wrong and like she made a hasty but wrong choice in giving up her Vcard. It’s also mentioned that all her men have been around the block if you catch my drift and even had mates they subsequently lost. To me that’s not romantic in the least especially when she’s waited around for centuries.
I really just struggled with this one and I did finally get into it but of course at that point it finally ended. It also left on a cliffhanger. While I know I’ll read on just to finish I really wish I’d read the previous series to this spin off as I wasn’t able to get sucked in to the story and felt like an outsider throughout much of it. I also hope the romance picks up because in this one all the men just seem horny and aside from one don’t appear to have any strong or intense-true feelings for the heroine. After the years she’s waited she deserves someone fawning all over her, obsessed only with her and not thinking they just need to get laid (and not necessarily by the heroine).

Just read the first three books and I'm going back to write this review before I forget.

Okay so I'll say this- these books are ridiculously easy to fly through, but holy melodrama batman!

description

Everything is dialed up to 9 with the feels, sexually needy dialogues, constant danger/action, and out there sexcapade scenarios . Also, everyone is constantly screaming, crying, arguing, and hurt every other second. Add to that an unstable reverse harem...?

Buckle up I guess--I'm on to book 4.

I tried this spin-off series because the main character seemed like a much stronger female lead character than the one in the original series.

She wasn't. She was worse. Turned out all the strength and self-discipline she evidenced in the original series was just an act covering up what a fragile, fearful mess she actually was.

She also has no agency; her magic compelled her to heal, her body was continuously in heat and her thoughts and emotions spun endlessly over the same ground never coming to a firm decision that she actually holds to (ie. at one point she decided to lose her virginity to one guy but not five minutes later was giving it to a different guy). She's over a hundred years old and a doctor, she should be more mature and deliberative than a silly school girl!

On top of that, the contrivances to create drama and action were over the top and ruined the one character I really liked from the first series and wanted to see more by rendering him close to powerless to keep the whole mess in play. In fact, all the men came off as pretty weak and useless. (Until the plot demanded they weren't, of course)

Do not recommend.

Dang it!

Dang it! I did NOT want to like this protagonist.... but I do. She was such a rotten pill in nephilim series, but here we start to see reasons WHY.... and they make sense. Two sides to every story, right? And now Cole has hooked me again and I have to read book 2.

First person, multiple POV, fantasy RH, Slow/ medium burn Slow build.
MMMMF
Cliffhanger
Rating = R to M
Character age range = 100+

Pros:
- FMC is a Surprise
- Sebastian is back!
- Cassius..... Fire angel to the rescue.
- Titus.... wowsers...
- Hawk? Please tell me Hawk.

Cons:
- Lots of relating to do to sympathize with FMC after last series.
- if she calls herself weak one more time I might smack her.

DNF. I went into this without reading the blurb and I was so confused, so I decided to read the blurb. Evidently this is a spinoff series of another series. The blurb says it’s not needed to read the other series in this world but that’s false. I read the first 20% of this book and I’m so lost. I have no clue who most of the people mentioned are and there is no world or character building as it happened in the other series. Soul mate, souls bond, etc. This girl evidently has a mate or bond or something but he is mated or bonded to someone else so it’s one sided. Makes no sense.

Pretty great...

Supporting characters! For a 100+ year old MC, Amiah is ridiculously one-dimensional in this book. World building and plot twists are still quite good (esp. if you read the series about Essie) - going to give book 2 a shot.

I enjoyed the book! and I can tell ill love this series as i did the previous one in this world.

while id usually give this a 4 stars - it wasnt quite that level just yet - which isnt bad for a first book of any series.

its just that there were a couple things that hit a bit too close to home or rubbed me wrong and zapped a bit of enjoyment from the overall experience.

Like the consent issues overall and the general triggers around abuse, past abuse, the claustrophobia trapped panic etc the fact that the incubus literally forced himself on her THREE TIMES like the first time was bad enough for "healing" spell breaking whatever pfft then he was told not to do so without consent and brushed it off.

then another time he does so cornering her and saying things like i know you want it etc as if attraction or reaction is consent WHEN ITS NOT and hes an incubus so even if tbat was a factor which it isnt it wouldnt apply to a sex demon anyway and ONLY Yes means Yes and since she didnt express YES in every interaction the incubus forces on her or had a previously agreed upon relationship where that was an understood preconsented to appropriate interaction unless told otherwise at the time then basically its juat telling anyone who reads this and doesnt know any better will assume being treated like that is not only ikay in any sense but also some sort of sign of trust healthy affection attention etc when its the opposite and in one interaction is actually classified as rape without penetration. No matter how its justified by him or her at the time.

Now this would piss me off immensely even if it wasnt set up so said rape incubus would be one of her soulmates or whatever. The fact that it is just adds an extra level of gross and the fact that this isnt labelled or warned at all in the start of the book AND the fact that this book and series overall isnt marketed as something youd expect such grey areas of dark bully adult erotica bdsm genre of books to play with is even worse cause if your reading such stuff you have an idea of what youre getting into your acknowledging that its either consented to dark stuff that you want to read as a fantasy type scenario or its acknowledged as being bully criminal type wrong and not made out like oh this is soulmate lovely behaviour totally normal etc like this book does. And like itd still be and if said chick was experienced and had a healthy relationship in the past or even had zero issues with men and sexual stuff but she already has trauma with said stuff and so called incubus adds to it long before the villian does so like yuck?! So besides the lack of trigger warnings and the icubus fucker i overall enjoyed this book.

I dont care if its a fantasy book or if its a sex demon consent even outside sexual situations is everything so i seriously fucking hope it doesnt carry over into the next book because pressuring someone or whatever into doing something is never okay especially when its an experienced guy to a traumatised girl like honestly those scenes were disgusting and if i had enjoyed literally everything else in the book i wouldve marked this as 1 star and not bothered finishing the thing which is extremely rare for me thats how hard it is to get me to despise a book.

Another binge read series!

You do need to read the nephilims destiny series to make sense of the world/history referenced here, even if the main characters and plot are different. Otherwise references to the previous characters or happenings will just confuse things, as this series starts a few months after the events in that one, with the secondary characters as the new stars. If you enjoyed that series (and I did) it seems this one is likely to be to your taste too...
*Also you might want to make sure you have the entire series if you like the first book, as each ends on a worse cliffhanger than the last.

The plot is pretty good and this first book is setting the scene and introducing the characters while still involving plenty of action, and not just sex. There is one sex scene, (although a great deal of the characters thoughts revolve around sex/attraction) and so far no instant mating bonds.
The characters are mostly well developed with complex personalities. They have hidden depths, pasts and in most cases some PTSD that they are struggling to hide behind a facade of control. The FMC Amiah is the central character and most of the chapters are from her pov, so she is the one we get to know best, along with what she thinks of the other characters. She is not a badass/kickass type heroine but a healer, so tends to be at a serious disadvantage in a violent supernatural world.
For a physician she clearly needs some healing herself, in the form of therapy. There is a lot of mental agonising going on over her relationships, sexuality, bonds, weaknesses etc. and a lot of messed up thinking and behaviour that can occasionally exasperate. The one big annoyance is the repetitiveness of her inner monologue. We get that she's agonising over her feelings and fears, it really doesn't need to be repeated over and over.
The men are less well developed, but have their own issues and quirks.
There are also some issues with consent that may cause some people upset.
Neither Amiah nor Cassius were likeable characters in the first series, but now we get to understand them and their attitudes from a new perspective and it puts them in a whole new light. I love that we get to see their sides of the story. Add in Sebastian and a dragon and their links to faerie and things are really getting interesting, with a whole new realm to discover. There are also a couple of more peripheral males that may add to the mix...

It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, of course - that seems to be the norm now for a series, as annoying as it is. But it does look like things are getting interesting...

On to book 2!

As most reviews point out, yeah, there's absolutely no way you can read this series and understand what's going on unless you've already read Nephilim's Destiny. I tried and couldn't get past the first chapter before hitting the metaphorical pause button to go hunt down the series Angel's Fate is spun off of.

I'm partial to multiple POV stories so, in that sense, I enjoyed this series more. Similarly to Nephilim's Destiny, there was a lot of trauma going on. Essie's character's main traits got divided between Bane and Amiah. The cheeky fae got the constantly being in pain trait, while the healer angel got all of her emotional neurosis. I hope Amiah deals with her issues faster than Essie did because otherwise, I can already see it getting annoying and repetitive really quickly—100 years is more than enough time to deal with your emotional issues and get over them.

But I'm glad that Angel's Fate will tackle a whole different side of this universe than Nephilim's Destiny—the Fae realm. I think it's safe to say we'll get to see all brand new stuff, and fae courts are always very complicated and interesting!

I'm also willing to bet that this book already put into words the idea the whole series will be centered around: "A treasure hunt where the competitors are trying to kill each other". Which, again, is a departure from the "different villains for different books" of ND, and an idea that, at least for now, I like better. I'd rather an overarching plot than an individual one per book. And I'm also curious about how many mates Amiah will end up with. Four seem to be confirmed already, but there's a fifth one roaming on the very edges that I'm super curious about.

And I'm already wondering whether Essie's team will make an appearance in the future as Bane seems to be struggling with something I think she could easily fix for him. I think everyone coming together in the last book (kinda like in the Narnia series) will be a lot of fun.

But for now, cliffhanger ending!

Great spinoff for fans of Nephilim's Destiny series and new readers

While it's not necessary to have read the Nephilim's Destiny series to read this one, the reason I read Fated Bonds is because I enjoyed the Angel's Fate series. In this series, we get to see characters of interest from the other series - Amiah, Cassius, and Sebastian - as well as meet new characters you'll love to love (or love to hate). I love the characters Tessa Cole's creates and the plot is engaging, full of fights, betrayal, and steamy stolen moments. One thing I'm a bit frustrated by, which I noticed with the other series, is that a lot of conflict comes from the characters' lack of communication. If they actually just spoke honestly, so much confusion and many complications would be avoided, but I guess it's also needed to keep the story rolling. One last warning is that there is a cliffhanger ending, but each book releases quickly, so you won't have to wait too long to find out what happens next.

Fast paced adventure

This is a fast paced adventure full of lots of twists and turns. There’s never a doll moment. Our heroin is a strong person when it comes to her career, but is weak in her personal relationships. I know this is due to her innocence and neivety. It is good to see her personal growth in this book. I feel that it in riches in richesthe fullness of the story. It also explains her interactions with her meal counterparts. I think her independence is building throughout this volume due to the inner strength that she has. I feel her character gives hope to those head may have been in a similar situation. Feeling trapped overwhelmed or even taken advantage of.
I would recommend this book to 16+ due to the mature storyline, sexual scenes, and violence. I do think it is a great read.

This book was okay, the overall series is not. If you read the Nephilim's Destiny series before this, be prepared for Amiah to be nothing like how her character was portrayed in those books. It was disappointing how helpless and pitiful Amiah was in this series. The long winded inner monologues about how helpless she was made it even worse. If you think it will get better as the series goes along, it doesn't. I got 5 books into this series before I gave up (a lot, I know). The helpless FMC is not my preferred trope, but it was mostly upsetting because she was portrayed as a hard-ass/badass in the original series and this was a huge letdown.

Amiah’s who is an healer angel see something fall out of the sky. She get to the scene to find Titus who we find out is the last dragon. He escaped the fae realm with Sebastian. As Cassius a JP agent along with Sebastian and Titus goes on the run try to avoid being hunted. Sebastian takes us to the market "Left of Lincoln". We meet Hawk who is an incubus. Let's just say thing get a lot more interesting. The book was good had a hot lead ups and Tessa Cole delivered. I cant wait for book two as we are left on a cliffhanger.

Love this version of Angels, Demons, Fae and Shifter combined

I was hooked on this book from the get go. Cole doesn't take long to get into the juicy part of the story. This story has all manner of the supernatural, adventure, wicked fight scenes, catch on fire sexual tension and most important of all characters which you love and hate at the same time.

This is the kind of book which has you yelling at your phone because the tension and plot twists take you through a roller coaster of emotions.

Can't wait for the next one.

Wow!!!

Wow I'm still saying it. This is an action packed page Turner. I couldn't put it down. Amiah is one confused angel. Shes for a bunch of hot alpha men on her side to help her get through it though. I'm still saying wow with shifters angels Incubus and a whole world of shifters there's no way not to love this story. I haven't read anyone books from this author and while it is a spin off i wasn't lost and didn't feel like I missed anything. Now I'm off to read the next book.

Why such a low rating from me?

The world building was apparently done in a different series. I didn’t read that series. The blurb said this was a standalone. For being a standalone series, I must admit that I was totally lost for a good portion of the book. I kept asking myself I’d i had accidentally skipped a book or a few chapters.

Amiah. My goodness, but she sucks. Big time. I’m already partial to Cassius and Sebastian. And I can’t imagine Amiah being good for either of them. She’s firmly in the TSTL category- not sure she’s going to make it out.

Like many others said READ PREVIOUS SERIES FIRST!!!! It says you don’t need to, and for the most part you don’t, but there’s a lot of references to the previous series. Some of these characters know each other already and we don’t fully know why/how.

Other than that, this rating and review comes after completing the entire series. It was absolutely amazing. This author really knows how to spin an immersive story. Unique and beautiful characters along with plenty of action (sexy and otherwise).

There were some grammar issues but they were minor and I did give this 4 stars because I really felt some character interactions were unbalanced among the harem. Otherwise, it’s amazing.

Absolutely love this! It was just as good as her other series, and I was very happy to see more of Sebastian. This is just as much his story as Amiah's. I never liked Amiah in Essie's series, but getting to know her in this novel has been wonderful. I really love her, and her character has become so well developed while accounting for her past behavior.

Where did all these men come from?

We have 2 Angels; 1Fae; 1Sucubus; & 1 Dragon, in this story. We have 4 men surrounding 1 woman & each beginning to have feelings for her, as well as her starting to have feelings herself. This is something new to her that she's not familiar with at all.

I found this series a bit slow to start, mostly when i realised Amiah was our FMC and Cassius was also in it. As i wasnt very happy with either of them after i finished Essie's stories. But then i though Give it a proper go Sebastians in it and we loved him.
And boy am i glad i listened to me!

This series was so full of twists and turns, Action and Mystery, sweetness, Steam and humour. I ended up loving Amiah and understanding her past behaviour and poor cassius..... *sigh .Sebastian was great as always and i loved Hawk, Titan and Rin.
I would definatly read this series again and i even shed a wee tear at the happy moment on the very last page.

So good

After a few initial confusing pages trying to remember what happened in the previous series (I left it way too far between) the book really picked up. It’s engrossing, enspelling and everything in between. Amish is a great character, the love interests are well fleshed out and I can’t wait for more!
This is a PNR RH series based in a world after an apocalyptic style war so has a lot of familiarity’s but with some twists.

I was so excited to dive into Amiah's story! As with Tessa Cole's Nephilim series, I was instantly drawn in. It was great to get some insight into why she acted the way she did. I hope to see how her bonds help her grow stronger over time. The ending left me scrambling for book 2!

An unusually good book

And that I say that when the book has a cliffhanger means something. I hate cliffhangers!

The characters are great, as is the pacing, and writing is good.

It reads like a prequel to a RH story.
