A wraith from supernatural legend walks into a shifter banquet and tries to kill the alpha. Of course I'm the idiot who gets in the way and cops the blame. I am still Alessia Hastings. My world is still insane.
It's semester two at Bloodline Academy and these are the things I know:
1. They still can't figure out what's wrong with my magic. At least they've ruled out I'm not a demon. 2. If that Nephilim jackass tries to kiss me, he may very well end up dead. 3. Somebody is trying to kill every member of the Supernatural Council and I may be the only one who can stop them. 4. A demon blade in the hands of a hedge witch with zero fighting skills is a disaster waiting to happen.
Get ready, school is now in session.

Lan Chan is a writer, gardener and professional procrastinator based in Melbourne, Australia. She is still waiting for her super powers to manifest but until then she writes young adult novels featuring strong female protagonists, minority characters and has a particular interest in dystopias and urban fantasy. Lan’s debut novel POISON, the first in her WIND DANCER series is due for release in September 2015.
Once again, Lan Chan did it. I don't know what the hell does she put in these books, but I do know that I'm devouring them. I'm hooked and I can't stop reading, laughing and getting excited.
The beginning of the book is a bit slow, but after the ending of book 1, I get it. Lex is back in her adventures, her journey to discover what she is and what's happening to her magic, which is pretty cool because we get a grasp of how things are developing, including the things that are not appearing or happening yet.
As always, Basil has my heart. Gods, there's no way I can hate him, he's funny af and I can't take him seriously.
Most part of the time, I just want to kick Lex, but then I remember that she's only 17 and barely knows things, so I let it be. Like, dude, if I had those powers, no one would be safe around me, lol, I'd be the devil reincarnated.
This book was a rollercoaster of emotions and I couldn't catch a fucking break. After the slow beginning, I considered about quitting because some things became repetitive, but then it picked up and there was no turning back. The end was so !!!! there are no words or emojis that can capture my emotions, lol.
Anyways, I keep saying that this series is a hidden gem!
I am having a real hard time with the character, Lex. She acts like a young teenager half the time with her whining, complaining and yelling. She supposedly raised herself on the streets and is attending a college like academy to fight against demons. But she acts like she is 13. There isn't really any romance between Kai and Lex. I do not mind the confrontational yelling when it is done right, like foreplay. However, she is rude and condescending to Kai. He tries to hold her and she pushes him away. It just gets old and feels forced. I do not mind a strong independent heroine but I hate that it is to the extreme where she has a fit because Kai wants to help. Gimme a break, it is not a bad thing to lean on other people. I am not sure I will read the next book, it just depends on whether my curiosity about if she turns bad or not. I would say this book is for teens not young adults or older.
This was such a great second book. While there were some parts I would have liked to be either extended or tweeked (I mean who doesn’t wish for little changes), I enjoyed the heck out of the way this played with Lex’s emotions. From the exhilaration of her small victories, to the almost black depths of despair, she is pushed from pillar to post much more than she was in the first book.
Kai, Sophie, Diana, Max, and the others are back to back their girl up... however, more secrets come to light and you can bet that Brigid is smack in the middle of all the gossip carnage.
So much fun. Fast paced, action packed, and with characters that I grew very attached to, I can’t wait to pick up the third book.
It was okay. Just tired of the plot being exactly the same. She’s so boring. She has “all this power” but she doesn’t know how to fight or do anything and it’s boring. I’m bored. I got 72% before I got tired of her whining. I’m done.
The last scene of this book I wasn't too crazy about.
I'm all for this relationship happening between the two characters, but I feel like they really don't know each other (hence, the lame gift). She complains about his possessiveness and she's stubborn/has trust issues, but what is it, besides hormones, that draws them together? I wish we would get to see them get to know one another better other than just their traits. People who are in love notice the small things about a person i.e. they don't mushrooms on their pizza, chocolate is their favorite flavor.
I think it's a bit of a stretch for the character development to claim she was homeless for six years as a minor. That kind of stress at that age affects you in more ways than one and I don't see those effects coming from her actions. Even though she is small, I expected her to be a lot better at fighting in this series. Does she really need to be at the bottom of the class even though she's not a supernatural? If this girl survived the streets as a kid for six years, I'd expect better fighting skills and street smarts. The author tried to convey that in the first books, but now I'm not buying it.
I'm going to keep reading because I have enjoyed this world. It reminds me a lot of Harry Potter, but with less whimsy.
Bloodline Secrecy (Bloodline Academy Book 2) ~~ This book ripped my heart out. Lex is stronger now, but she’s drowning in betrayal, lies, and danger coming from every direction. The truth about her heritage hits harder than she ever expected, and learning the real story behind her parents shattered me.
The push-and-pull between Lex and Kia is pure fire — they want each other so badly but also trust absolutely nothing and no one. When they’re forced to work together during the attack on the academy, my nerves were shot. The way they protect each other without saying it out loud? Perfection.
The ending? I swear I almost threw my Kindle. That cliffhanger was criminal. I gasped, I yelled, and then I immediately opened the next book because there was no chance I was sleeping after that.
I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself ~ you won’t regret it.
The story continues after the semester holidays, three weeks after the end of the previous book and it’s all an emotional rollercoaster, from the beginning to the end. The romance factor evolves and the communication between the two main characters evolves two, but not at the beginning but as the story goes on. The writing makes you feel what lex is felling, makes you get inside that universe and feel exhausted, exhilarated or frustrated, depending on the situation our heroine may find herself. You love or hate the characters and it’s imposible to stop reading. This series as a whole is one of those where you say just one more chapter and you end up reading four or six😃
I am so Sad 😢that this book is over but I am really excited to start right in on the next book. I Love 💘 these characters and the exciting things that they get into. My heart is split into a million pieces for the kids after what happened but I know they will get it put back together and everything will end up the way it's supposed to... This series has a way of pulling at your heart and making it screech to a stop, It's made me smile, Laugh and tear up with emotion because of these kids and the things that happen to and because of them. If only our lives could be a little bit like theirs, never a dull moment. I only hope that this series is a long one and let's us peek in on them for a long time...
Wow wow wow! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better Lan Chan pulls another incredible feat with this heavenly number!
I was literally carrying my ereader everywhere so I could sneak in chapters whenever possible. The last 75% of the book especially, be still my heart, it was INTENSE!!! I was so invested in how Lex was going to get herself out of the body switch. Ahh!
As for the next book, it is going to be huge. Basil has a body of a serial killer (what!), Kai and Lex are finally a couple but on seemingly opposing sides. The introduction of the soul sister's academy. I'm shook!
Just on a general note, I really have to commend the authors writing style. It struck the perfect balance with world building/ description. There was no dead space, everything felt like it should be there and contributed to the story. Loved the Christmas celebrations so much.
So bring on the next book and more works from Lan Chan. I'm a fan for life!

I still really enjoy the idea for this series but this book wasn’t quite as good as the first in the series. In the first half it felt like things were too easy for the main character but this book seriously got better after the halfway mark. There wasn’t much plot happening in the first half, just lots of set up for later, so it felt quite slow in sections.
The great great minor characters (and the brilliant interactions and relationships that occur because of the minor characters) are why I enjoy this series so much.
Overall, not quite as good as the first book but still a fun read.
Book 2 followed up as a powerhouse to book one! I loved this story and am diving right into book 3. The flavour of Lan's writing reminds me of a YA version of Ilona Andrews, and K.F. Breene - two of my favourite authors in their genres (ok, 2 of many but still..). If you enjoy Urban Fantasy adventures with real emotional development and snark that isn't overblown you'll enjoy Lan's Bloodline series.
So my question is where was Brigadoon when all this went down? There was no mention of her bitchy one liners? Alessia and the children seem to be the only ones who had a clue as to what is going on. What happened to the wood nymphs as they are not mentioned either or the Grove as it just skips to the main characters. Lots of gaps in the story but hopefully they will be filled in.
This book was so full I couldn’t put it down. It was really emotional, I felt everything Blue was going through, from the bullying to the politics I just wanted some more people to stand with her. It was great seeing more of Blue and Kai and getting to know a few more characters. Look forward to the next book.
This started off as such a good series. The beginning of this book was great as well... but unfortunately I only got about 80% of the way through. The "badass" that I thought would be in this book turned out to be a moping teenager. I couldn't STAND Lex in this book. So frustrating because this book and series had so much potential. Unfortunately, this will be the end of my journey.
I know I'm not in the majority with this one, but I didn't really enjoy this. There were so many missed opportunities where the author could have tweaked the story and made it better, not to mention the plot holes. I think this is the end of the road for me ... Time to move on to greener pastures.
I really enjoyed the first book and was excited to start this one. I managed to make it through the book but I found myself getting bored and wanting to skip parts. There seems to be very little connection between Lex and Malachi, feels almost forced. I enjoyed the other characters though. Unsure whether I’ll continue the series as I’m it jumping at the thought of reading it.
2.5 I was pretty disappointed at how slow the pacing was, the story is mainly dialogue, I think that's what the majority of the book is. The cliffhanger was the main reason for me wanting to continue onto Book 3. While I love feisty independent heroines, the way Lex behaves was quite obnoxious. Like I get not wanting help, but do you have to be so aggressive every time?
Who wants their mind messed with? Who wants to be around someone who has such an ability. Would have been nice to know before receiving training from a serial killer. Allessia gets a first hand experience with this. Lies come to light and Allessia reacts poorly putting herself in danger.
Not sure if I like all the twists and turns in this one but to say if wasn't entertaining would be a lie. I got mad at one if the twists near the end that I didn't read the ending for 5 days. I guess you could say I got a little too invested with the characters. Will have to read the next book to see where the ending takes us. Ms. Chan is a masterful story teller.
Book 2 in the Bloodlines series is even better than the 1st! (You can start the series at this point & pick up on what's going on pretty easily, but you'll want to read Book 1 to have a full understanding of the story)
The plot lines of the first book felt a little less certain, but this installment has a much better, more confident focus.
Lex is beginning to learn more about who she is, and putting together a friends & enemies list that needs to be written in pencil not ink.
The ending is kind of a cliffhanger, which I generally hate, but since the main plotline for this installment is resolved by the end, there's still a sense of satisfaction, & it actually comes across more like a sneak peek for Book 3 - which I am now eagerly awaiting!
*Language: moderate with common swear words, no f-bombs
*Religion: no resemblance to actual theology which makes most of its distinctions between good & evil pretty fuzzy, but at the same time, it also keeps it obvious that it's fiction
Almost a dozen uses of God's Name in vain, sadly & unnecessarily (& ironically), but at least not as curses, fwiw.
I’m loving series so much! I love the way LAN writes...humorous and she really fleshes out the characters without bogging down the story...this is for young adults but she writes for all readers...can’t put them down once I start!
I'm so in love with this story I couldn't put it down! I was not expecting half of what happened in this book but it was great and I'm so excited to read the next one
Azrael's voice is in my head right now telling me "Sleep lil one. You must rise early in the morning with somewhere to be." Another voice, possibly a demon or fallen angel is telling me to down load the next book and read a bit more.
I love this series and have become absolutely immersed in the characters. The story line is fantastic and the writer is definitely becoming one of my favourites. Many Thanks
