Rate this book
How long can one keep up a charade?

A gentleman who hides many secrets.

Society thinks it has the measure of Lucius Daventry, illegitimate son of the Duke of Melverley, but they know nothing of the dangerous man who lies beneath the constructed façade. As a member of a secret group known as the Order of Themis, he works to right injustices, to make wicked men pay. But someone is seeking revenge on its members, resulting in the murder of their leader, Atticus Atwood, and Lucius will stop at nothing to find the person responsible.

A lady with secrets of her own.

Sybil Atwood still grieves the loss of her beloved father and has focused her attention on seeing the return of his personal journals and scientific artefacts. What possessed Atticus Atwood to bequeath his life’s work to a man like Lucius Daventry is a mystery. Indeed, the dissolute rake is far removed from Atticus’ usual associates. But having received threatening letters demanding she gain possession of the journals or face dire consequences, Sybil has no choice but to approach the devilish Mr Daventry.

A clash of personalities brings about surprising rewards.

Thrown together by a twist of fate, Lucius and Sybil become involved in murderous plots, secret societies and a race to catch an evil villain. In a wild adventure that takes them to the dark depths of London’s underworld, they find they’re inexplicably drawn to one another. Both are compelled by a powerful attraction. Can Lucius overcome his demons and open his heart to the possibility of love? Will Sybil learn to trust a man with such a scandalous reputation?

⭐⭐⭐⭐
4 stars.

➕ What I liked :

Rather interesting main characters.

Rather interesting plot/mystery.

OK romance/romantic build-up and chemistry.

No unnecessary or OTT miscommunication and misunderstandings.

The heroes toxic and awful parents in a way got their comeuppance and the hero was not a yes-person/doormat for them.

Interesting side characters.
(The other “Scandalous Sons”, Alcock the coach-woman etc.)

Enemies to lovers vibe.

Good hero.

➖ What I disliked:

The character description/visual appearance of the heroine is a tiny bit on the vague side.
(There is some information/ description about the heroine…..like eye color/hair color and some information about her body type/shape… but it is rather vague and sparse.)

Formulaic in the character description/visual appearance/character choice of the hero.
(Hero= tall, muscular, handsome)

In some places in the story it was a little too cliché.

There needed to be a little bit more depth and focus on the romance/romantic build-up and chemistry between the main characters and a little tiny bit less focus on the drama and mystery.

Lackluster sex scene/steam.

As the illegitimate son of the Duke of Melverly, a man notorious for his temper, Lucius Daventry has faced no end of often unmerited judgments from society. Beneath the rakish facade he presents to the world he hides his leadership of a secret society, the Order of Themis, dedicated to seeking justice for those who'd otherwise have no hope of it. But with his mentor and the society's former leader, Atticus Atwood, dead under mysterious circumstances, Lucius is determined to find justice for him, and uphold his vow to keep the man's daughter safe.

Sybil Atwood is still grieving for her father a year after his death and now she's receiving threatening letters demanding she recover her father's journals, or else. But her father left all of his journals to the despicable Lucius Daventry, which still baffles Sybil, but leaves her with no choice but to try to reason with the scoundrel.

As Sybil's determined curiosity keeps her in close proximity to Lucius, they both find themselves in danger and trying to unravel an increasingly complicated mystery. The attraction between them is undeniable, but he's sworn to protect Sybil, even from himself. But Sybil's curiosity, especially when she begins to know the real Lucius Daventry, means their relationship is inevitable if they can just outwit those who mean them harm.

This book was stunning and exquisite, just what I needed for a distraction right now. Sybil's incessant curiosity toed the line between charming and annoying without ever crossing it and she was perfect for Lucius. Lucius was a lovely, multi-faceted hero who really just wanted to experience and give love and that just makes me melt every time. He was lovely and he and Sybil were perfect for each other. I loved the mystery element and it kept my attention even as I slowed myself down and savored the book. This has turned out to be one of my favorite series and I'm so sad to see it come to an end but also very excited for the next upcoming series from an excellent author.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

The one thing, you can always depend on, is Adele Clee will write a new book full of twist, turns, a myriad of guilty looking suspects & a cast of characters that will hold the story up to snuff with a flair!

Lucius Daventry is the is the bastard son of the cold-hearted Duke of Melverley. His mother disappeared when he was young & he has grown into a dark, brooding man with a well known reputation as a consummate rake, according to society gossip. He keeps to himself & no one really knows much about the real Lucius, which is exactly how he wants it. Lucius is a member of The Order of Themus, which speak for the poor & working people who have been unjustly found guilty of crimes they had not committed. Presently, Lucius has been investigating for the last year, the murder of The Order's leader, Mr. Atticus Atwood.

Sybil Atwood, daughter of Atwood, is still mourning her father's death but has never wavered from the fact that she wants to retrieve her father's personal journals & scientific theories. She will spend whatever money it takes to buy them from the notorious rake & blackguard, Lucius Daventry at the auction he has set up to sell them. Why her father gave the books to this man is hard to fathom, especially since they should have been given to her.

When Lucius & Sybil are oil & water when forced to work together to solve the murder of her father but as time goes along & when they are forced to be together constantly for her safety, sparks begin to fly. The mystery surrounding the murder is a whodunit to the very end - so many looked guity. I highly recommend this read & the entire series if you enjoy wonderful main & secondary characters, exciting & mysterious plots, humor, action, danger, romance, lust & love.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

This was a captivating read with many twists and turns that will keep you reading and guessing until the end. The characters of Sybil and Lucius were very engaging. There was certainly more depth to Lucius than the reputation he cultivated. Sybil was an intelligent woman but nothing deterred her from doing what she thought necessary. She was quite fearless. Lucius had a difficult relationship with his father and knows little about his mother. There is also a blackmailer to uncover and I loved the way the characters from the previous books in the series all did their best to help. The next series sounds equally intriguing and I look forward to reading it.

No one knew the man behind the facade. No one knew of his hopes and aspirations. No one knew the effort it took to keep his promise to Atticus Atwood.
"People see what I want them to see, Miss Atwood. A selfish rogue obsessed with the next conquest."

But we all know that looks can be deceiving.. 4.25 stars!

In this book, we get the finale to the Scandalous Sons series, and what a fun and scandalous bunch they were. As I've read numerous stories by Adele, I've come to expect her stories to be shrouded in mystery and weaved with a love that is the saving grace for both the hero and heroine. For me this story had mystery aplenty, which kept me reading and engaged throughout, but the romance fell a little short. I loved both Lucius and Sybil separately as MCs--they were both strong and atypical in their attributes--but for me their intimacy and love developed late in the story to really explore and appreciate. I loved how Lucius was the first to fall in love and how Sybil had the chance to be a strong and proactive heroine. Overall, I enjoyed their story and seeing the other couples, and I'm excited for the stories of the next "four ruthless gentlemen"!

[Side note: it wasn't until this book that I really noticed how much thought and care Adele must put into her book cover decisions!! Once you read the story you will understand how absolutely perfect this one is with the cover models, the white stockings, the pearl necklace, the green dress, the chaise... I could go on and on! Just absolute perfection ♡]

I've so enjoyed this series and as usual, I'm always sad to see a good book series come to an end. Each book was a joy to read with swoon worthy heroes, strong heroines and lots of action, mystery and of course, strong passions.

This is Lucius and Sybil's story. Lucius is not what he seems and Sybil is curious enough to find out who he really is and why her father had picked him to protect his journals. Her curiosity puts her in danger but Lucius will do everything to protect her although she doesn't make it easy due to her stubbornness and not liking to be told what to do!!! The attraction they feel for each other is too strong to resist and amid the danger, their passions flare and love soon follows. The steamy scenes are well written and in good taste.

Adele Clee never disappoints with her stories and this one is no exception. I definitely recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Another great read from the 'Scanalous Sons' series!
I really liked Lucius (a dark, dangerous, mysterious rake with some serious family issues), and Sybil (a determined woman who spoke her mind and charged head-first into getting what she wanted).
The ongoing, danger-filled mystery was on point. The intimate scenes were sexy-hot, and the dialog between the H/h added to the enjoyment of the story for me.
It was also nice to see the 'sons' from the previous books make an appearance.

The Mystery of Mr. Daventry is the fourth and sadly the final book in the Scandalous Sons series. This has been an entertaining series and full of intrigue with twists and turns. Each book can be read as a stand-alone since the characters are seen in each book, but each book has a mystery that gets solved in it. This book had twist and turns that you couldn’t see coming and a surprise ending.
Sybil Atwood’s father has passed, and she is determined to get his journals and artifacts back. Sybil wasn’t sure why her father had left them to a rake-like Lucius Daventry, but she has received letters threatening her and demanding she gets them back. She doesn’t understand why someone would be threatening her over scientific journals, but she is scared enough to confront Lucius.
Lucius Daventry had made a promise to Atticus Atwood to protect Sybil. As the leader of the Order of Themis, a secret group that worked to right wrongs, he thought keeping her at a distance would keep her safe. But her recklessness and persistence were making his promise hard to keep. He had a suspension that someone had killed Atticus and was trying to catch the murderer, but Sybil’s stubbornness has brought her to the attention of his suspects and placed herself in danger. Can he keep her safe while trying to solve the mysteries?
This was a wonderful addition to the series, and I think it was my favorite. I’m sad to see the series end but look forward to the new series Gentlemen of the Order which is based on the men Lucius hires to help him solve future cases.

Unfortunately this is the last story in the Scandalous Sons Books. I loved the stories and hate to see them end. Or is it ? Could we hope for maybe other series with some of our favorite character from this one. Oh that would be wonderful...
Lucius Daventry is the illegitimate son of the Duke of Melverley. The Duke is a mean, harsh Brute.
Most of society thinks his son is the same. Lucius is a rake, but none of society really knows much about him.
Lucius is a man with many secrets some personal and others his business. He is a member of a secret group known as The Order of the Themis. They try to right the injustice done to the poor and working class of people. But someone isn't happy about it and has murdered the leader, Mr Atticus Atwood.
Lucius is out to find this person and get his revenge for his friend and mentor. Atticus was the father figure he never had as a child.
Sybil Atwood is still grieving the death of her father. She is spending all her time and money on trying to get back his many journals and papers on different science projects.
Why her very forwarding thinking father would leave them all to a heartless, rake who knows nothing of science or could care less she can't figure out. When she confronts Lucius at a public auction where women aren't allowed she unwittingly draws the killers attention to herself.
As Lucius and Sybil are thrown together by fate they can't deny the growing attraction both feel.
As they have to deal with a murder, secret societies, threatening letters and an evil person who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
This is a fast pace exciting story with twist and turns. As these two end up on this wild adventure together can two very strong people work together ? Can they over come what others think
and follow their own hearts and emotion.
What a wonderful story, read it in one sitting couldn't put it down. In these very trying times as
more and more people are staying home cause of the virus, what better way to deal with it all then to get lost in a really good book. I hope you will give it a try, I just know your going to love it too.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Suspense led adventure fueled delightfully by wit, charm and delicious banter!!

What an explosive and fun end to a series that I'm excited to find diverts so wonderfully into the next.
Steeped heavily in mystery and laced in tantalising intrigue, Clee adds suspense to an already thickening plot overshadowed by misperceptions, dangerous secrets and a desperate need to find answers. This cleverly written tale flows beautifully through each twist and turn and held my interest to the point of addiction, mainly due to the amazing romantic duo Lucius and Sybil.
Pleasurably witty dialogue, charm, lustful cravings, magnetic attraction and intensely warring emotions make all the discoveries, revelations and confessions all the sweeter as it becomes quickly evident that Lucius and Sybil are positively perfect for each other.
The resounding connection between Lucius and Sybil from sniping and bickering to witty sparring, with an undertone of sensually charged tension, makes this a must read. It's so easy to admire and bask in their recklessness, intriguity, teasingly evocative banter and instanteously bewildering attraction. Sybil so full of vitality has an insatiable thirst to seek answers and radiates an energy that almost glows from the page. While Lucius represents an enigma of contradictions, that can't help but rub Sybil up the wrong way, as he silently battles to uphold promises that conflict with his deepest yearnings, hidden desires and the rakish facade he's so effectively erected. Resulting in making him incredibly fun to unravel as the chemistry deepens between the pair - practically crackling in it's intensity - as they are forced to trust each other as they join forces to eliminate a deadly plot involving the work of Sybil's much loved late father.
Full of stomach churning anticipation where I found myself eagerly trying to balance a need to read faster against savering each delightful moment between the pair in their race to uncover clues and find their own happy ever after. With the addition of a reunion of past characters (from the series) only adds a further delicious layer to an already rather captivating book. Loved it!!

The fourth and final instalment of Adele Clee’s Scandalous Sons series is definitely another winner.
Miss Sybil Atwood is on a mission. Her esteemed father has left all his precious artefacts and scientific instruments to the disreputable Mr Lucius Daventry after his death. What such a dissolute rake would have in common with her celebrated scholar father is a mystery. There had to be a mistake. She will do anything in her power to get the items back. But Mr Daventry is proving to be disagreeable and resolute in his resolve to keep them himself. Sybil is determined to get her father’s journals – not least because of the mysterious and threatening letters she is receiving.
Mr Lucius Daventry is not the dishonourable rogue that society thinks he is. As an apprentice of Atticus Atwood, Sybil’s father, he was part of a secret society which fought injustices in the world. The murder of Atticus makes him determined to flush out the culprit by any means that he can. The last thing he needs is the added distraction of Sybil’s misplaced efforts to thwart him – not least because he has loved and wanted her from afar all these years.
Dragged into a dangerous mystery, Sybil finds herself racing against time with Lucius to find who is behind the threats and possibly her father’s murder – discovering in the process that the man she thought a rogue and a villain is actually an honourable hero and a man she can come to love.
This is a fast paced story filled with mystery, adventure, romance and passion. Sybil and Lucius are both really likeable leads and it is gratifying to watch them achieve their happy ever after.
I really liked Lucius in particular – he had a very unhappy childhood and grew up very lonely. He was fiercely loyal to Sybil’s father and really true to his feelings for Sybil. It was also established really quickly [to the reader] that he was not a rogue at all but a good man. He loves Sybil but his past makes him wary about trusting anyone. He grows throughout the story and you can see him slowly start to realise that he cannot do everything on his own – that it is sometimes alright to accept help from others. It was also refreshing to see a hero fall in love first – although it didn’t take Sybil long to follow.
As always in Adele’s books, the story keeps you hooked and you follow the revelations with bated breath. It was good to see the other ‘scandalous sons’ and their wives in varying degrees as well.
I would definitely recommend this book. It is a fitting end to the series and teases us into Adele’s new series about the secret order Lucius is now head of. I have to say that the cover is absolutely sumptuous as well. Really well depicted and possibly one of my favourites.
Adele is an auto buy author for me but I was gifted this as an ARC. However, all views are my own.

“Trust your heart.”

All of society believes Mr. Lucius Daventry, the illegitimate son of a duke, to be the worst rogue and most heartless rake to ever grace a ballroom. Miss Sybil Atwood has her own reasons for agreeing with public opinion. Is what the masses believe correct? Or is there a hidden truth?

Let me begin by saying that I loved The Mystery of Mr. Daventry. It's at the top of my “Adele Clee favorites” list. From the accurate depiction on the cover to the story, this engrossing read is masterfully constructed and the writing is perfect. Ms. Clee opens the curtains and allows the reader to watch her imaginative tale unfold in wide-screen technicolor. Taking center stage are Lucius and Sybil's characters. They are truly magical together. Their interaction is deeply sensual with just the right amount of angst, glib humor and danger. They are supported by a cast of interesting characters, including a few from previous books in the series. As their story concludes (as all must), their happy ending/beginning is smile worthy and very satisfying.

Content 411: As I've already stated, this is a very sensual love story. In addition to a few specifically placed vulgarities, there are numerous erotic suggestions, passionate kissing and several sexually intimate interludes.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

5 STARS, MYSTERY, MURDER, INTRIGUE

The Series Scandalous Sons Book 4 gets 5 STARS. It's a wonderful last book for a great series of powerful men. It is exciting, entertaining, & interesting with a few different encounters. It is well written & has an excellent BLURB.

Atticus Atwood created a seven man secret order called the Order of Themis. The main reason was to find the truth and fix the right behind the people who had been wrongly accused. They sought to always do the right thing even if it wasn't the law.

Sybil Atwood, the daughter was trying to get his journals & notebooks back from Daventry because she thought he was an amorous rogue and that her father had scientific & mathematical theories & thoughts meant for future societies. She had no idea what was really in them and was creating danger by chasing after them.

Daventry thought Atticus was murdered and knew another member of the Order Procter, had been on the night Atticus died; and he was determined to get the answers.

While in the midst of this Daventry had to fight his intense longing & desire of Miss Atwood he had sworn to protect her. Further there were attempted kidnappings, being followed by shadowy unknowns, threatening letters to Sybil, the Duke was dying his last few days & A surprise comes out of the fog.

It is great reading. There is I must WARNING:

Lucius Daventry and the Order of Themis. Curtain up. The time : Regency England. The players : Lucius Daventry and Sybil Attwood. The scene : Atticus Attwood has been murdered and it is up to Lucius and Sybil to find the culprit. The mysterious Daventry is devilishly delicious but can he outwit the unassuming Sybil? I said in my last review that I loved the fathers of these wonderful men and I am still holding onto that with Lucius’ father. Yes, he was standoffish and had a temper and was not forthcoming but I think he did love his son. Just not the in the way that we would think a loving father would. Again Ms. Clee weaves a story of mystery and intrigue that baffled me (definitely like when stories do that because I do not want to know right away who the villain is). Lucius and Sybil working together despite their kind of love-hate relationship was thrilling to watch. And their love affair was so beautiful. They knew what they wanted and went with it – I especially liked Sybil’s forward thinking of listening to her mind and taking what she felt was right for her. Curtain down.

I am sad that this series is coming to an end but am happy that it is just the start of a new series. Ms. Clee is a writer that you will want to try if you have not. She writes such lovely and intriguing stories.

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Wow! What a Magnificent story, it takes you to the heights of a passionate love swirling down into a vortex of murder, intriguing mystery and mayham! The Mystery of Mr. Daventry will keep you enthralled from the moment you begin the journey with Lucius and Sybil until the very end! Adele Clee has a writing style that I thoroughly enjoy;  she's filled this story with characters that come off the pages and pulled me into this tale, a story that is well-written, strong plot and great dialogue, with setting descriptions and action sequences are wonderfully vivid which brings this read together perfectly. Lucius is swoon worthy rake with emotional scars and Sybil who will turn Lucius' life upside down with her outspokeness, snooping and witless comments. While each of them slowly reach out to the other in this heart felt story filled with drama, uncertainties, sizzling passion, secrets, villains who spin a web of lies, deception and deciet until slowly all the pieces start falling together that solve who the real villains are, trials and tribulations, turmoil and while the suspense builds and tensions escalate and mayhem abounds with twists and turns that will keep you wandering what's around the next corner makes this one outstanding story!

A perfect ending to this amazing series with one of my favorite couples coming together. The brooding, seemingly rakish Mr Lucius Daventry and the beautiful and strong Miss Sybil Atwood.
"As their gazes locked across the crowded auction room, Sybil couldn't help but notice the physical attributes that marked the gentleman as the most dangerous, most sinful man ever to make her acquaintance...From his muscular physique, his coal-black hair and penetrating stare.." Oh yes I get the picture and Sybil just needed to get her father's journals. How Lucius had ended up with them she did not understand. But if she did not get them back, her life was in danger.
A mesmerizing mystery wrapped up in danger, murder, secrets, snappy banter, an underground society, an unknown villain and an attraction that cannot be denied. As the story unfolded, I fell in love with Lucius. His heart needed to be held and loved after his past had broken him down.
As always, Adele Clee wraps her story around my heart and brings it to a wonderful conclusion. What more can you ask for? Just another series that hopefully will happen soon!

Ah Daventry, Daventry! The most key character in all of the author's next series and how can you not read his story. But frankly, I was a little disappointed, and the best book in this series, since the topic of the investigation is more serious and interesting, and Daventry is revealed here in all his positive side, although he is not so omnipresent and brilliantly smart as to read people so well in order to create ideal couples in future. I don’t know, maybe the author here hasn’t yet conceived of him as an “ideal matchmaker”, because later in the books he knows everything about everyone, but here for a year he didn’t even notice the interest of his beloved girl. As for relationships, of course, long-standing hidden love makes for a more plausible plot than “lust is like a lightning strike from one touch,” but everything is just as quick in 2 days there’s already sex and a week later there’s already love larger than life. Well, these shortcomings of the author can be tolerated if the investigation is interesting. And okay, the heroine is still a smart beauty with big breasts and a kind heart, which is all you need to fall in love.

Unbeknownst to Sybil Atwood, her father and Lucius Devantry were members of The Order of Themis, a group of men who tried to right wrongs (usually done by the aristocracy, and thus generally unpunished). When her father dies, he wills his papers to Lucius Devantry. To Sybil's knowledge, Lucius is the illegitimate son of the Duke of Melverley and a dangerous rogue.

While Sybil is trying to find out where the auction of her father's papers will be held, Lucius is trying to hold the auction to smoke out the person who may have killed Sybil's father. That quest seemed to be logical; something a daughter might do. However, the rest of the book was illogical.

There were almost continuous sex scenes, starting about the middle of the book. Shockingly, Sybil was the aggressor. Not a word was mentioned about the possibility of pregnancy until the end. The solution to the mystery was so contorted that it was unbelievable.

I have had the privilege of reading an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this exciting story and cannot praise it enough.
It is well-written, has very well thought out characters and one cannot help but love their qualities and personalities especially the two main ones.
There is intrigue, a murder-mystery, some very fine and continuous banter between Lucius and Sybil and a wonderful love-hate relationship which quickly develops into a romantic love story as they learn more and more about each other.
This is the kind of story that gets you reading and keeps you there in the moment with each scene and is a must read for those who love a passionate tale of love.

Lucius Daventry, is the illegitimate son of the Duke of Melverley, and consummate rake but what is he really hiding. Unknown to the ton he is now the leader of a secret group called the Order of Themis. A group formed to correct injustices. But it is the murder of the previous leader, Atticus Atwood, that Lucius wished to revenge.
But Sybil Atwood, his daughter, wants the return of her father's personal documents, held by Lucius. Drawn together they must survive threats and plots and hope to reveal the guilty parties.
Another fun and enjoyable well-written story in this series. A good mixture of romance and mystery with its cast of likeable characters, but it does contain mature content.

To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement. I have loved all 4 books in this series (you do not have to read them all) and am a little disappointed to see it end, but I read somewhere Lucius will appear in the next series. This book is about Lucius and Sybil. Lucius has promised Sybil’s father he would protect her. He wants her and he tries to not let her know, or to act on those feelings. Sybil did not think too highly of Lucius, but once she got to know him, she saw who he really was, and their chemistry was wonderful. Every time I read an Adele Clee book; I get so involved in it I do not want it to end. I know you will enjoy this as much as I did. I also have to say, you will love Lucius.

Ah, well. As with all good things this engaging series comes to an end. I really liked this. Mystery and romance. As with books 1-3, this is a standalone.
Lucius Daventry plays a role when out in society. Seems to be much of a loner, although part of the Order of Themis. Miss Sybil Atwood is seemingly fearless as she stands her ground facing Daventry at his auction. She boldly forces her way into his investigation of the death of her father and another Themis member. Fortunately, she truly aids rather than hinders his efforts. She inadvertently draws in helpful friends Wycliff and Cavanaugh (from books 1 and 3). There is another unexpected mystery which reappears, that of Daventry's mother.
I didn't take note of the cover until coming here to post; I made me smile as it is quite fitting!

Let me say, this book is well titled.
Sybil Atwood thinks she knows Lucius Daventry. She’s not impressed. She’s determined to figure out why her beloved father left his journals to Daventry when he died. In her quest to recover them, she finds out there was much more to Daventry’s relationship with her father than she ever imagined. They embark on a search for answers regarding her father’s mysterious death & discover they work well together. As is usually the case in Adele Clee’s books, this one weaves a love story into an engaging mystery that has plenty of twists & turns along the way. Was happy to read an advanced copy & highly recommend it!

Sybil Atwood has lost her father and wants his scientific journals returned to her. She cannot understand how her father desreed them to Lucius Daventry who she sees as vain and a rake.
Sybil does not know the Daventry belongs to a group of men who bring the unpunished to justice and working to protect her is his assignment.
They join forces to find out who it is who wants her father's journals and what they contain and begin to realize that neither of them knows the merits of the other party.
The characters are well developed and likable and make you route for the happy ending which comes in the end

The story of Mr Lucius Daventry and Miss Sybil Atwood is not a classic romance. Lucius, asked by his mentor and friend to protect his daughter, Sybil should anything happen to him, has had feelings for at first sight. Concerned her life may be in danger, with a murderer at large, Lucius finds himself in the role of bodyguard. Sybil is no shrinking violet and has strong opinions of Lucius’ character. Being forced together brings interesting results!

LOVED DAVENTRY

This was a typical enemies to lovers story. I loved Lucius, but I was not really a fan of Sybil for the first half of the book. What was supposed to be her reckless and fun personality often just created unnecessary problems. Also, she just seemed abrasive with Lucius sometimes. Instead of the conversations showing empathy, it just seemed like prying. I did feel like that changed toward the end of the book. This is another book where I love the scandalous sons and moderately like the female heroines.
