Red Dead Mayhem #3

For the Pride of a Crow

Rate this book
Listening Length: 4 hours and 12 minutes

Ethan Blackwood has a dark destiny that will make him the next Blackwood Crow. He’s being haunted by his past and is slowly morphing into the man he never wanted to be. Every decision he’s made to get to this point in his life has been a misstep, and he’s desperate to get turned in the right direction before it’s too late. He doesn’t know how, until he runs into a clumsy little beauty who has decided he is hers, and she is his. What he needs to do is stay steady and figure out a way to get rid of the ghost from his past, but Leah is making it hard to think straight. But the closer she gets to him, the more danger she’s in, because the ghost from his past will do anything to keep Ethan’s destiny intact—even hurt the girl he’s falling for.

Leah Hawthorne isn’t great at many things, but she can tell when a man is good or bad, and Ethan Blackwood is a bad boy with a heart of gold. He’s crazy. Everyone in town knows that much. He talks to himself too much to be sane, but she’s up for being his friend. And the more she gets to know him, the more she thinks he might just be the man to handle her quirks. But he’s a slippery little fish and hard to catch, and now she’s thinking he isn’t as crazy as everyone thinks. Choosing him means putting her life in peril, and there is no doubt her future will be changed forever, but maybe that’s just what this bored, small-town girl needs…a little danger and a lot of love for one hot-as-hell, Harley riding, outlaw Blackwood Crow.

Gah! I absolutely adored Leah and Ethan! I wasn't sure I would enjoy Ethan's book since I didn't care for him very much in the last two, but the author totally redeemed him in this story. His relationship with Leah was magical. 5 big stars

I think Leah might be one of my most favorite characters ever.

“That’s a…” Leah gulped. “You have a… There’s your wiener. Big wiener.”

Good read

Good read, but I think I was expecting more from the story. Leah was cute but she got really annoying and I really couldn’t see how she fit together with Ethan. It was nice to see Bailey and Rike. I just couldn’t live it, something was missing.

Good read though, will read the next.

I’m so glad that I discovered this series and this writer because these stories are just what I need in these difficult times (with the virus and lockdown). The stories in the ‘Red Dead Mayhem’ series are light, funny but still emotional reads. They may only be novellas and thus not very long stories but the stories are very good developed and they are perfect to read in one day (or two if you’re a slow reader like me). Just a few hours to get away from the reality of the world.

‘For the pride of a crow’ is the third book in the series and is about Ethan Blackwood (Rike’s older brother). We already met him in the previous books and after reading about him, I was very curious about his story. Just like the previous story, you get both POV’s.

Ethan’s father was a terrible, bloodthirsty man and you would think that his dead was the end of it all. Sadly, it isn’t. Now his father’s ghost is haunting Ethan and it’s just as dark as the human once was. With each passing day, Ethan can feel himself getting closer to the dark side of his crow. Something that his father’s ghost is waiting for and he isn’t the only one! Even Ethan expects that soon he will give in to the voices in his head and start killing people but what he didn’t expect was meeting a human woman who accept him and his crow for what he is and who in her way, is maybe a bit crazy too. Can she help him in his battle for staying sane?

Leah Hawthorne has accepted that she isn’t like other people and through the years she has embraced her special self with everything that she has. But she’s lonely and looking for friends. Like her grumpy colleague at work or that dark, hot, broody (and maybe crazy) man customer who comes to the dinner where she works. Leah sees something in him, that she can’t explain. Can these two lonely people save each other? Or is it too late for Ethan and his crow?

I enjoyed this story very much. Leah is a very special character and I think that you either love her (and all her quirky parts) or you don’t. Because she’s a clumsy, says-like-it-is, honest woman, who looks at the world in her own special way. But she’s just perfect for Ethan. I loved Ethan’s character, he’s grumpy, hot, dark and sexy. Just like the previous books in this series, this story was again funny, emotional and filled with sexy shifters.

I can’t wait to read the next (and last) book of this series that is about Kade, a new character who we meet in this book. Another dark, hot, grumpy, dangerous man to love.

This one drove me nuts and made me laugh at the same time and that was due to Leah. Leah is a hot mess, very scatter brained, came off as very childlike and was the perfect person for Ethan. All of those qualities in Leah seemed to help drive off the darkness in Ethan, something he sorely needed. Leah also was able to roll with the punches, nothing seemed to phase her, another great thing because Ethan’s life is a train wreck.

I loved how Leah was able to get Ethan to talk to his family again, the family by blood and the family of shifters he helped tear apart. By the end of the book things were so much better for both Ethan and Leah in so many ways!

I'll freely admit that I hated Ethan in the first book. However, he very quickly won me over in For the Pride of a Crow. I really liked Leah. She was quirky but not the annoying sort of quirky. She was a good fit for Ethan. I also liked the set up for the next book in the series. I didn't expect that twist at all and I look forward to reading that book.

Leah is the BEST, most ADORABLE, perfectly unfiltered character I’ve read in forever. She is on point as the mate for Ethan.
Mother and family get thumps up.
Haunting was interesting.
I was seriously sad to see this end. Leah was addictive.

Redemption!!!

Ethan Blackwood, former second-in-command to the King of Crows, Ramsey ( FOR THE HOPE OF A CROW ) and brother of Rike ( FOR THE BLOOD OF A CROW ). He has been slowly turning into the man he never wanted to be like, his dead father.

He wanted to stay steady enough to be able to turn his life into a right direction after all the wrong turns he took until now. And he had no clue how to achieve his goal, that was until he met the beautiful and klutzy woman who'd tilted his world on its axis...Leah Hawthorne.

Leah Hawthorne was a small town girl who could tell when a man was good or bad. She was totally honest and she knew just like everyone else in town that the bad boy crow shifter, Ethan Blackwood was a lonely/crazy one.

But that piece of tidbit didn't stop her from wanting to befriend him. She knew being close to him would put her in danger still she was willing to take that leap of faith. He tried to stay away from Leah but it was impossible to do especially when she decided he was hers and she was his.

As they began to connect Ethan's past threatened what he was trying to accomplish. He pushed his mate away in order to protect her but it just the both of them extremely miserable. Leah had some unexpected in her corner rooting for the lovebirds.

It was great to see Bailey reaching out to her while Kasey, Rike and an unexpected family member were looking out for Ethan. Loved the Blackwood men and their lovely ladies spending time with their mother.

Leah what an incredible woman, the things that came out of her mouth were priceless. Likes how quick she became friends with Vina and Bailey. Ethan made things right with Ramsey and those he'd wronged.

His father's ghost tried to harm his beloved and he wasn't having any of it. With the help of his loves ones, they took care of Lucian. Ethan and Leah's set out on their new journey along with Kade. Their Blackwood Clan was born.

FOR THE PRIDE OF A CROW is the third installment in T. S. Joyce's RED DEAD MAYHEM series. It was emotional, captivating, fascinating and alluring.

T. S. Joyce outdid herself with this beauty, I LOVED the journey she to took us on. She's my go to author. Give this book a try. 5 Golden Stars!

5 FUCKING CROW STARS

Lets start this with a question. What is a great, good book?

For me its when I cant sleep, when I have this nagging voice inside my head to keep going and finish, then when I finish I want more.
I'm happy to tell you this is Great book. I loved it.

T.S JOYCE is great writer, I'm in love with her writing, characters and the world she created.
Willa from The GRAY BACK series is one of my TOP 5 heroine. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26004966-gray-back-bad-bear

NOW TO THIS BOOK:

Leah is a great, awesome and a bit crazy but my kind of crazy and I LOVE HER!
She's quirky, funny and definitely beautiful, strong woman who see bright side to everything. (Wish I can say the same) She took me by surprise of how well written she is.
For me if the heroine is a crap I cant, I will not continue the book whatever the case in the hero though and that's for me. BUT this heroine is everything.

Ethan is crow shifter, bit messed up and trying to die in peace. But when Leah come to the picture everything change.

WOULD I RECOMMEND IT? HELL YEAH THIS BOOK TOOK ME 8 HOURS OF READING TO FINISH. OF COURSE I WILL.

THANK YOU T.S. JOYCE FOR THIS CRAZY GREAT READ. TO ALL OF YOU TRY THIS WOMAN BOOKS.

Ps. I don't think this book is a stand alone its better if you read it as a series to get it better.

YESYESYES for the uber broody broken alpha.

I was legit gagging for his story. I needed this bad boy to have a teeny bit of goodness in his life.

I LURVED Leah. Now I will say she won't be for everyone an no doubt will piss more than a few readers off. But I totally vibe with the weird quirky outrageous ones and she is a whole lota that and more.

Ethan needed her in his life because she balanced the scales. Her crazy light and his super dark seemed to vibe harmoniously.. even if he fought it at first. I have a soft spot for Leah because behind all that cheeriness is a lonely women who doesn't have anyone and has never truly been accepted or understood. Ethan is a bad boy with good intentions despite ruining himself in the process of saving everyone else. They don't change spontaneously but they do help eachother heal. The chemistry is palpable and the connection raw, believable and just right.

The story is crazy with a few little surprises thrown in to keep shit interesting!. It's always a pleasure getting to see old faces as well as new (cough KADE cough!!). Issues get resolved whilst new things pop up leaving us with more questions. All in all I loved it like I always do!. Short sweet and a real naughty treat!;). Now for the next! Kade and Trina are going to fuck shit up I just know it!.

OHHH!! T.S. Joyce just keeps getting better with each and every book. I think she is trying to kill me with all the laughs she throws in these books. Or maybe it is the relatability that I can see myself or one of my friends says some of this off the way craziness that I love so much that makes me adore her leading ladies so stinkin' much!!!

Leah Hawthorne seriously needs to meet WILLA! Willa and Leah would be an epic pair! I mean I Loved Leah with the ladies in this book, I just kept thinking she reminds me of Willa. Leah is such a great heroine, I cannot wait to see her in the next book!

Okay, I will admit that I had Ethan Blackwood all wrong. I hated him for what he did to Ram and Rike but after this book I just adore him. Ethan was misunderstood and just needed for everyone to see where he was coming from.
Ethan and Leah are such a great couple. I cannot tell you how many times I chuckled at them as a read their story. There is no way that Ethan could not want to be with his ray of light. She is EPIC.

I cannot wait to see what is in store for us with Kade's book. Bring on the broody moody wolf. He needs some love.

Shifter erotic romance

Setting: Corvallis Contemporary
Genre: Shifter Romance
Ethan is going psychotic as the ghost of his father haunts him. He had challenged for Alpha of the Red Dead Mayhem MC and taken half their number. But he had refused to let the Crows that had left with him declare fealty, so all of them are rogue. He meets Leah, a curvy waitress at a diner, and she has decided that he is her boy. She is clumsy, cute, and unrelentingly positive, the opposite of his brooding, violent, and haunted Crow.
This story is about love overcoming evil. As with every T. S. Joyce book, there is sex, violence, and heavy dose of dick jokes — erm, I mean witty dialogue. The characters are well written, and the plotting is good. Highly recommend.

For the Pride of a Crow brings us Ethan’s story. Ethan is broken in ways that Ramsey and Rike weren’t… maybe in a way he’s even more broken by his father’s actions. He’s just about at that final breaking point when he meets Leah. One bumbling, accident prone, nonstop talking waitress who isn’t the least bit afraid of him, and can certainly take him on any day of the week. Leah is light to Ethan’s darkness, and maybe together they can make him somewhat whole again. But first they have to get rid of a ghost who just doesn’t know he’s dead but not gone. This time it’s Ethan who is going to hold on tight for the ride of his life. He’s been convinced there is nothing worthy or lovable about him – he’s about to discover what one woman in love can do.

If you’ve read T.S. Joyce’s set of series that make up Damon’s Mountains then you’ll know Willa. In many ways Leah reminds me of Willa. She’s outspoken, has no freaking filter whatsoever, talks nonsense that actually makes sense, stands down to no one, is the baddest of the bad-asses when needed and her loyalty is unquestionable. Yeah, Leah reminds me of Willa…. bet they’d be something if ever in the same book, the same scenes. (Laughs out loud)

Ethan and Leah work, maybe because they’re totally opposites, maybe because they’re mates… but this odd couple is a total unit and sexy as possible. Ethan has a lot to get through, and without Leah in his life, well, everything could have turned out so differently. We get the chance to catch up with old friends, meet a new one and take the ride of our lives with this couple. I loved For the Pride of a Crow, and I’m betting if you love Shifter Romance then you will, too.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

FYI, this is technically a spin-off of the Outlaw Shifters series. I read this independently of the Outlaw books and did not mind being introduced to the "old" characters from this perspective. But if that is something that would bother you, I recommend starting with For the Love of an Outlaw.

These are short and fun shifter romance series. Bad guy/good girl dynamic between the hero and heroine. I found the series to be low angst and have moderate plots. Loved the unique "pack" dynamic for the crow shifters. The characters are all connected to Red Dead Mayhem motorcycle club, but I thought overall it didn't read as an MC romance. The MC really just was a way to hide or explain their "pack" to the neighboring humans before shifters were known about. The books do not have MC culture, illegal activity, or problematic content that can be seen in MC books.

Ethan Blackwood was trying to save the Red Dead Mayhem MC from an Alpha that was poisoning them, instead he is estranged from his Clan and his brother. The Blackwood name is catching up to him now that he is on his own. He is being haunted by the ghost of his past and every time he looks in the mirror, he sees that monster. Until the chronically clumsy Leah smooshes his lunch and takes a chance on being friends with the crazy man that talks to himself. Ethan isn't easy to win over but Leah is persistent, and her vivacious personality slowly wins him over. But when his demons start to take over and come back alive, are they strong enough to fight the past for their chance a future?

This is the third book in this series and they should be read in order. I am loving this crow series. This book focus on Ethan. He left with half the members of Red Dead Mayhem in this first book. Now he is faced with the responsibility of that decision. Only he doesn’t want to be alpha and he can’t. He is spiraling himself. His father has come to haunt him since his brother found peace. Leah finds herself alone. She tries to find the positive in everything and not to have sad days. She may be just what Ethan needs. His father seems to disappear when Leah is around. Ethan finds himself drawn to Leah. She deserves more than him though. She deserves someone who isn’t seeing ghosts and losing himself. Leah asks a million questions and never stops talking. Maybe Ethan is just who she needs too. She is willing to jump all in with Ethan but he won’t be easy to catch. She knows he is good deep down. He may be the next Blackwood Crow but that doesn’t mean that he has to be like his father. I loved this book so much. I laughed so much. Leah is fantastic. I can’t say enough about her and how great she is. Ethan is great too. He is struggling but wants to find a way to make it through. A new character in introduced as well and I can’t wait to read his book next. T.S. Joyce girl I love you. You write such great books. I can’t wait for the next one. T.S. Joyce has quickly become one of my must-read authors. I read her books without even reading the synopsis.

After reading book two, I was quite surprised book three turned out to be Ethan's story.
Ethan Blackwood is a crow shifter, a severely damaged crow shifter. Ethan was beaten, thrown, physically abused over and over by his psychopathic father. Ethan's brother killed their father, but his ghost stayed around to haunt them and drive them crazy. Their father left his brother Rike alone after he found a mate, his ghost dad, Lucian his focused on driving Ethan insane.
Leah is annoying, talkative, unrelenting, just a bottle of positivity. Leah has been watching the big, not biker guy come into her restaurant. Leah see him talk to himself, he always sets aline, eats and always leaves alone. Leah knows what it's like to be alone. Can these two opposites save each other?
The crow shifters from this series are all damaged in there own ways, however, Ethan was the most damaged character of the bunch. T.S. Joyce does such a great job in getting readers to feel for these fictional characters, that keeps me reading these books. This one has me laughing out loud several times. It's a phenomenal read for any adult.
These book are for adult readers due to explicit sexual content.

Ethan & Leah

Light and Dark. Sun and Moon.
I absolutely LOVE this series! With each new Mate pairing I can't pick a favorite! Time for a re-read of the OUTLAWS to this one!
Leah is ALL light, happiness, & sweetness. She's also a badass that goes after what & WHO she wants.
No matter how hard Ethan tries to keep his distance, everything that Leah is draws him back. Makes him want to be better and right the worst wrongs. To come out of the darkness. The BIG dark is the ghost of his father. As Ethan becomes happier, the ghost grows stronger. Strong enough to end everything he's fighting for.I

The Alpha (TS) has given me another keeper! She's given me more people to love like family.
Red Dead Mayhem, Outlaws, Son's of Beasts, Damon's Mountains, Fire Bears, Harper's Mountains, Kane's Mountains, Red Havoc Panthers, Wolves of Winter's Edge, Bell's Canyon Shifters...ALL part of the world she created that I can't get enough of!!

Blackwood

This KU library selection is a great read. It features Ethan, the messed up second in command to Ramsey, alpha of Red Dead Mayhem clan, who issued an alpha challenge and outed the clan on national TV. Ethan took half the clan with him when he left, but set them free, forcing them to be rogue crows. He's working as a handyman and artist, and the waitress at the diner he frequents sees him talking to himself.
Leah is a klutz with a wicked sense of humor, and not a mean bone in her body. She saw the loner who comes in each day when he was fighting his alpha on TV. And she is sure that he's basically good under all that snarly and crazy. But then she realizes he doesn't talk to himself but to a ghost. An evil ghost that is growing stronger. And soon, Leah is in a fight for not only Ethan's life, but her own, as well.

YES!!!

I love, love, love this book! The others in the series were good, but this one is my favorite!
Ethan, a crow shifter, has a dark, violent past. He thinks he's broken, and waiting for the inevitable end of insanity and murder.
Leah is human, a cute hot mess. Clumsy, socially awkward, but full of light and happiness.
He never sees her coming, but she's exactly what he needs. She makes him want to be a better man.
There's a dark evil that is trying to end Ethan. Leah's love and light is what he needs to fight the darkness.
I adored Leah's character, and Ethan is a good man living in pain. (His character is so hot!)
This is a really good short read, and even better, it made me laugh. Made me cry too, but more laughs. Read it, and enjoy!

Good addition

This was a good addition to the series. At first, I wasn't crazy about Leah the mc. She truly acted like a 12 year old girl who said all the strange things they usually think internally but even at that age know better than to say. I get the author was going for quirkiness, but it seemed too unreal and contrived. Now, later, after these two got together, her actions were actually quirky and fun without being weird. I really loved the last half of the book. We got conflict, team building, family bonding and a new character to drool over. What more could you ask of a book? I am really looking forward to Kades book. Yummy... who doesn't love a hot, brooding broken man with a mushy heart?

Quirky girl alert!

I love books where the quirky girl gets her surly, growly, sexy, alpha (I could keep going with the adjectives, but, I won’t) guy! This is Ethan and Leah’s story. This picks up where book 2 ended and Ethan is Rike’s brother. Lucian ( their dead dad) has decided that haunting Ethan is more fun than haunting Rike. Ethan and Leah meet at the restaurant where Leah works. She tries to befriend him so that he doesn’t have to talk to himself anymore, lol. Ethan doesn’t know what to say to this clumsy, talkative girl. Each story in this series helps to build this shifter world that T.S. Joyce has created. Do yourself a favor and read one of her books. I might be biased, but, I love the Crows series!
