Boruto and co. defeat Ao and fight a member of the mysterious group Kara!

My favorite part of this volume was Sarada defending and helping Boruto at every opportunity. She's so sweet <3

Summary for reference:
Number 20: Scientific Ninja Tools - Ao attacks the group with high-tech ninja tools. He witnesses Dr Tohno Katasuke's use of the suit to absorb jutsu and takes one of the gloves to use against the group. Konohamaru tries to get information from Ao about whatever was in the container that Kara was transporting, but to no avail. Mugino, Konohamaru's remaining team mate from the investigation, grabs Ao and sacrifices himself to cause an explosion that temporarily traps Ao and allows the group to get away to regroup.

The group shelters in an abandoned building and decides what to do next. Konohamaru wants to distract Ao while Boruto's group takes the flash drive back to the village, but Tohno Katasuke suggests he should be the bait - he reveals that he was placed under genjutsu by Ao and had information on ninja tools leaked to the enemy (this is also supposedly why he gave Boruto the tool to use in the chunin exams). During this conversation, Boruto reiterates that ninja tools are a great achievement, it just depends on how they are used. The group decides they will face Ao all together instead and devises a plan.

Number 21: How You Use It - While the group is devising a strategy, Boruto plays around with the chakra sword and finds out how quickly it drains chakra. Tohno Katasuke fits the remaining chakra-absorbing glove to Boruto as well.

Meanwhile, Ao is searching for the group and meets up with Kashin Koji, the Kara member with the eye mask and hood. They talk about dumb stuff, Kashin Koji tells Ao to focus on killing the group and Ao insists he "doesn't feel anything" because he is "just a tool." Whatever.

The group confronts Ao, throwing different jutsu at him until he notices Boruto isn't around - and then Boruto arrives and attempts to make an attack with the chakra blade. He drops it and rushes to retrieve it, which prompts Ao to pick it up instead. Boruto (with use of shadow clones to trick Ao) and Mitsuki then trap Ao with the blade so it drains his chakra. Ao tries to use the suit glove on Boruto, but Boruto responds with his matching one and they cancel out. Boruto then uses rasengan to destroy Ao's glove.

Number 22: Fierce Battle Conclusion! - Ao uses another ninja tool that fires projectiles (called "mirror drones") to attack Boruto, but Konohamaru shoves him out of the way to take the hit. More fighting, Boruto uses shadow clones, and Ao thinks he's picked out the real Boruto because only one had the glove. During the altercation, Boruto attempts to taunt Ao about being an ex-shinobi. We also get a brief moment where Sarada tries to charge in to save Boruto, which is cute. Boruto then reveals that Ao has only caught a clone, and he purposely made it look like he couldn't replicate the glove on his clones. Boruto cuts off Ao's mechanical arm and rasengans him. He tells Ao he won't kill him, though, which prompts Ao to make a comment about how he is naive like Naruto. Konohamaru announces the mission complete, but Kashin Koji arrives to finish off Ao so he can't be interrogated. As his final attack, Ao uses a jutsu (rather than a ninja tool) to shove Boruto out of range of Kashin Koji's attack.

Interestingly, Kashin Koji uses a frog summon, and also can use rasengan. Oddly similar to Naruto.

Number 23: Karma - Kashin Koji attacks the group. He uses a paralysis jutsu, but Konohamaru has a seal or something prepared that releases the paralysis. They fight, and this is where we find out Kashin Koji can use rasengan. He uses an eternal flame justu on Konohamaru, which distresses Boruto to the point of unintentionally activating the mark on his hand. The mark absorbs the flame jutsu, and causes the mark to cover his arm and part of his face. Kashin Koji calls this ability "karma." Boruto immediately passes out after using it. Sarada rushes to defend him against Kashin Koji, who says he's letting them live "as a reward for showing me something interesting."

The group comes together and beings their trek out of the forest when they come across more of the mechanical puppets they fought in the last volume. The puppets have all been defeated and their bodies lead a trail to a young man passed out on the ground who has the same mark on his hand as Boruto. Dun dun dun! End of volume.

(The boy appears to be the one called Kawaki from the very beginning of volume one, who Boruto is fighting, if I am remembering correctly. This is the new Sasuke, I'm guessing. Not looking forward to that mess.)

This was a pretty good volume. It had decent action. The fight with Ao came to it conclusion. Two major charaters where appeared for the first time in front of the team; Koji and Kawaki.


One thing I am disliking as the manga continues is how Boruto is the hero in every instance. Their was a pretty good balance in beging of Boruto saving people and being saved. Now that Boruto can activate this new ability "Karma" I dobt thier will be many more instance where the rest of the team will get much attention.


I liked the action and plot in this volume but I was displeased with how Sarada and Konohamru where written in this volume.






Spoiler Warning:
The conclusion to the fight with Koji was pretty cool. Ao was defeated by Boruto then Koji attempted to kill both Boruto and Ao. Ao push Boruto out of the way, which prevent Boruto fron being killed as well. Ao was by no one means a charater I liked but it was a cool way to end the story of a shippuden era character.


Spoiler/Fan rant:

Now that Boruto has this ability "Karma" it seems the power levels of the team will become quite skewed. Mitsuki has his snake sage mode so he will keep up. My concern is Sarada and Konohamaru falling behined. Right now Sarada only really has her sharringan to realy on. Conpared to Sage mode and this new ability "Karam" Sarada is in real dander of falling seriously behind her teammate in terms of power, and never catching up. Konohamru also seems to be cartoonishly weak conpared to his students. He does not seem to be the wise jonin leader Kakashi was to team Seven.
I hope they do sometimes to give Sarada and Konohamaru edge on the team.

Thier where a few instance where Sarada and Konohamaru should have been more effective then they where.

For example when Sarada punched the absorption glove by all logic it should have broken. Sarada's punch is Taijutsu. The glove absorbes Ninjutsu so it should have broken when she hit it. Also Sarada seems to be losing the composure she had in the begining of the seires. Twice she had to be restraited by Mitsuki, to prevent her from being injured. Once when she nearly ran into Boruto's trap. And Again when she whent to chase after Koji. Sarada's strength is her logical and stragic thinking, it would be a lose to her charater if she does not keep these traits as the story goes on.
Also as a sharrigan user you'd think she would have noticed that the Boruto in the trap was a shadow clone and not the real Boruto. Which brings me to another point, the puppet, Ao and Koji where all instance where Sarada should have used her sharringan, but she did not active it at any point during the conflict.

Konohamaru was not really utuilzed in two key events. The first being the suprize attack aimed at Boruto for example. As a jonin Konohamaru should be able to grab Boruto and Dodge. Instead he pushed Boruto out of the way and took the hit himself. Also as a jonin Konomaru should be ale to take a hit like that and remain consciousn. Even If Konohamaru is not fast enough to dodge or does not have the endurance to take the attack you'd think he would have some sort of shield type jutsu to use. It does not make sense Konohamaru has manged to stay alive this long if he does not have one if this three traits. The second key event where Konohamru should have been utilized better, came when he reveled a seal mark on his chest and told the rest of team seven to run while he distracted Koji. Whatever attack he was about to use was not explained as he was quickly lit on fire by Koji and was saved by Boruto using his Karma seal to erase the flames.
Conpared to feats displayed by other characters in the francise Konohamaru does not seem to be Jonin level.

Sorry for the long rant, I just dont like it when characters get written to be ineffective for plot convience or to give the protagonist all the spot light.

Bestämde mig till slut för att ge den här serien en chans. Jag gick in med väldigt låga förväntningar efter att bara ha hört negativt om den. Men ärligt talat så tycker jag att den är helt okej. Det var en ganska svag början. Volym 1-3 imponerade inte särskilt mycket, men slutet av tredje volymen blev bättre och sen fortsätter volym 4-6 på ungefär samma nivå.

Jag gillar de nya karaktärerna. Flera av dem introduceras bättre och får mer utrymme i animen dock (som följer ett helt annat arc i början). Storyn är väl helt okej hittills men jag tycker att det är karaktärerna och deras relationer som bär upp serien just nu.

Kawaki is here! And he has a strange mark that’s exactly like Boruto’s!

Since the marks are on opposite hands, I can already picture them holding fingers like Sasuke and Naruto at the very end of the series

Ultimate showdown against a Mist Village ninja in which the teacher is incapacitated so the three genin have to fight the big bad evil guy... Yeah, we're repeating the same formula as Naruto.

The only difference is that there's no 'sigh of relief' after one arc is finished. We just jump straight into the next debacle with the last one hanging over our heads because some new bad guy pops out of the woodwork just as we defeat the last! Look, Kishimoto, I love your stuff, but there's an order to tension in a story. If it's all tension all the time, it gets BORING no matter how awesome the fight.

Points for adding in that new character at the end, though. That's a proper cliffhanger.

Pretty good but nothing extraordinary in my opinion. We finally learn Ao's true colors and I didn't trust him from the beginning. He was a nice man during the war in Naruto but apparently, the war changed him but we can also understand that he was merely a puppet. The fight was fine in my opinion. I liked that Ao saw Naruto in Boruto because of his kindness. The most important and interesting thing about the chapter was the man called Kashin Koji who looks surprisingly like Jiraiya. We'll see what the deal is with Koji.

Reading Boruto volume 6 now as physical English release. I read the chapters each month on shonen jump. Love this part of the manga. This volume is a huge turning point for the story. The main characters first interactions with the enemy. It is also the volume where we get the first glimpse of my favourite Boruto character and a bit of infornation on the karma seal.

Thoughts

Number 20: Scientific Ninja Tools
Ao using the ninja tool weapons was cool. Absorbing jutsu is always a way to make an enemy more challenging, and the arc of Boruto’s feelings on scientific ninja tools is interesting.

Number 21: How You Use It
The adaptation of the ninja tools by Boruto is well done. Their being incorporated with ninjutsu is a great concept. The strategy in the battle was great but isn’t Boruto’s skill with the rasengan not where it should be narratively? Naruto did it imperfectly in three days but had Kurama inside him.

Number 22: Fierce Battle Conclusion!
The battle in this part is well done, and the twists keep the battles interesting. The redemption for Ao is good fan service. We didn’t want to see him go out like that but he was a compelling antagonist.

Number 23: Karma
I liked seeing an appearance of the Kara where there is action. The activation of the karma and the discovery of the airship’s cargo were points of interest as well. I like the design for the karma use.

Who would like it?

People who are into shonen manga and anime.

Volume 6: Chapter 20-23
Arc 3: Ao

- The battle between Team 7 and Ao begins. Ao got the upperhand as he possessed advanced ninja techs. Mugino died in the battle. Team 7 retreated and planned for another strategy.
- The second round battle begins. Boruto managed to defeat Ao by cutting his robotic arm and leg. Boruto delivered a Rasengan as a finishing blow.
- Unable to move, Kashin Koji appears on the tower before Ao. He summoned Boiler Toad on the tower. The tower collapsed and killed Ao instantly.
- Team 7 fight Kashin Koji. Kashin Koji used Fuinjutsu to restrict their movement. Konohamaru released the Fuinjutsu and fight Kashin Koji. Kashin Koji can used Rasengan.
- Kashin Koji summoned Zanmai no Shinka, the eternal flame to burn Konohamaru down. Boruto activates his seal known as Karma to absorb the Fuinjutsu and the flames. He then collapsed. Kashin Koji retreated.
- Team 7 resumed their journey. They come across with a boy who also have the same seal as Boruto in his left palm.

This was a really cool volume! This focuses on the fight between Ao and Boruto, the first round he is able to take his ninja weapons and show him its real power as he is able to absorb all their jutsus, they escape and come up with a plan and there is this great moment when Katatsuke is doubting himself but Boruto shows confidence in him and says to his sensei about the importance an dgreat purpose and good intentions of this weapons and Katatsuke smiles and it was such a good moment and they come up with a plan and they fight Ao and the fight is so awesome and the way Boruto defeats Ao just wow, until they are attacked by Kashin Koji, whose taking them down like anything and that is when we see Boruto release his Karma/Kama aka Momoshiki-form maybe? Its a cool moment and more mysteries or the biggest mystery is built! Also they find Kawaki?! This volume was so full of revelations and actions and good moments and leading to big things and the art is just phenomenal!!

Este volumen de verdad que se superó muchísimo al resto, siento que ya por fin esta tomando el hilo de la historia desde un principio. Este volumen es como que aclarando que todo pequeño detalle tiene sus conexiones al final. Pensé que una pequeña historia iba a hacer como que el relleno de esto, pero resulta que ese pequeño relleno resultó ser algo muy importante para el futuro de la historia, que es a lo que está girando toda esta trama de Boruto.
La introducción de estos 3 personajes nuevos que aparecen fue espléndido.
Y no tan solo eso, si no que las ilustraciones están de un hermosa definición, y las batallas están demasiado pero demasiados increíbles.
Hasta los momentos uno de los mejores volúmenes de Boruto.
De verdad que me hizo acelerar el corazón de la emoción

I don't even know where to begin! Masashi Kishimoto finally told us what Borutos seal was, which is called karma. It wasn't so cool to see Mugino sacrifice himself to try and kill Ao. What led up to a big moment was when Kashin Koji used his fire jutsu and almost killed Konohamaru. Then Boruto's karma seal activated and absorbed the fire.

What was most interesting was the other boy. He had the same karma seal as Boruto except it's on the left hand instead of the right hand. What I'm really hoping to see is Sarada's sharingan progress past a 1 tomoe into a 2 tomoe or even 3. What interests me the most is that Sarada can't get an eternal mangekyou without Sasuke dying, so it makes me think that something is about to happen to Sasuke. The thing I want to see the most is Boruto's jougan activate again. It has been a long time since we last saw it activate, but then again the story isn't over.

The volume was great and showed that characters wont be spared death in Boruto. It is nice that we continue to get this sort of seriousness that we came to expect from Naruto here. Though the character in question didn't have much of a presence established here, they were someone that the anime did give some focus too. That said, I would have liked for it to have been covered in the manga.

Otherwise, everything was pretty good in this page turner. Though it took me only 30 minutes to get through, it felt like a lot of ground was covered. I especially liked the Ao plot and him honestly helping the others grow. I do like how we also get the typical Naruto-esque end of fight outcome with our antagonists. Looking forward to more.

The only extra was the as usual controversial and debatable ninja info stats.

Ça commence à devenir interressant vu ma note, j'avais jamais dépasser 4 mais ce tome et incroyable il y a pas de truc inutile même ci il manque un truc impactant dans le tome sinon j'aurais mis 5. Déjà le combats contre Ao était grave bien la mort de mugino même ci il est plus représenter dans l'animé et même on l'avait déjà vu Avant alors que dans le mangas non. J'ai adoré quand ao à dit quand temps que shinobi je suis mort je suis plus qu'un outils scientifique. C'est vraiment un de mes personnage préféré en plus il est mort parce que kashin Koji la écrasé avec le crapaud même il y a là révélation du Kama et kawaki pour le prochain tome pour une fois je dis bien depuis les 6 premier tome j'ai adoré.

Quizá estaba acostumbrado a que en el anime detallaran las escenas y esto se viese más prolongado, aquí siento que todo va bastante rápido, al punto que no acabo de disfrutar una escena porque ya pasaron 5 más.

El sacrificio de Mugino me dolió, pero fue muy valiente de su parte, más que nada el sacrificarse porque sabía que solo así podría ayudar a sus compañeros a ganar tiempo.

El cómo boruto ya esos dio su karma me gustó, así mismo también ya porfin la aparición de Kawaki.

The power of the seal as spread throughout Boruto's body, this story is a bit similar as the story that Sasuke had. The evil ninja that appeared can master the invocation of frogs and looks a bit like the ermit Jiraiya.
I have to say that this fight was a bit long and a little less entertaining than the previous ones.

This was so good! The new tech being introduced is interesting but I feel like Boruto is already fighting smarter than Naruto did at this age. More thought about how to use tools and techniques. The resolution of the Ao fight was amazing. I love Konohamaru and I really want to know who this Kashin Koji is.

Un tome entièrement focalisé sur l'affrontement avec Ao. Le dernier chapitre seulement est intéressant avec l'arrivée de Kashin Koji et l'éveil du sceau de Boruto. On a encore beaucoup de questions, mais on continue à faire le parallèle avec Naruto (celui-ci avait Kyubi comme source de pouvoir, ici Boruto a ce sceau mystérieux...)

Holy crap! Not only did we see more use of ninja tubs we saw new ones all together. Love the chakra sword. Wonder how someone with loads of chakra would wield that. Let's not forget about that glimpse of power we got with Boruto's mark. Great volume.

I did like this book i was just really confused cause i wasn't able to start from the beginning i started from vol.6 instead of vol.1. you should also start off with naruto cause boruto is naruto's son so it will make more since.

As rough as the character designs look at some points, I actually really liked Ao’s character design and character. It just worked in this context! And while the fight was pretty generic, it was still a fun read.
