After nearly being wiped out, the remnants of the U.S. Military launch a daring mission against the Reapers. If it works, it could destroy millions of Reapers in an instant. But if it fails, then the Reapers dominance could grow even more.
A new group arises from the shadows, one which operates under a simple mantra: Join us or die.
Meanwhile, a single Reaper commander pursues a personal vendetta as he hunts former police officer Malcolm Foster. As Foster and his group are being hunted, he fights to keep his friends alive and to find a safe haven from the growing number of Reaper hordes.
As the battle lines begin to form, there is no chance for diplomacy or peace and the future is anything but certain. Can Foster and his group find a way to survive?
Great series. Instead of zombies this one has Reapers. They are more menacing, deadly and vicious than zombies because they can think and listen to commands. Foster was the reluctant and admirable leader of a group with little to zero combat training. He was flawed, vulnerable, humble and a damn great shot! His give and take combat fighting and witty banter with compadre Sam adds most appreciated humor and authenticity to the flow of the series as a whole. Foster the cop and Sam the service man take it up a notch because each has different strengths which helps to compensate for individual weaknesses. One without the other and this group would not have survived as well as they have. They're mutual respect and trust for the other paid off in dividends! Hope this is not the last book of the series as I can see this one continuing on and addressing various questions left unanswered.
Brian Callahan did a superb job as narrator for not only the guys, ladies, teens and kids - but was fantastic with his voicing of the Reapers as well. Pretty terrifying. . . Listening to him just made the book that much more exciting!
I love comic books, zombies and all things apocalyptic. Because of this I can suspend my expectation for things to make sense.... but I still can’t get past some of the discrepancies in the intelligence and lack there of when it comes to the reapers. In this one there’s also the stupid humans in the ‘cult’ of stupid! Lol Our main group of heroes are well written and pretty clever, also likable and enjoyable. It’s a great series but again think evil comic book villain when it comes to the reaper leaders or alphas. Narration by Brian Callanan is excellent just like it was in the other 2.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.
Wretched Retribution, the third book in The Wretched series, is a non-stop action-packed post-apocalyptic thriller. The tension and heat are turned up high in this exciting installment. The military, with its limited resources, is desperate for a successful mission. The Reapers are discovering new abilities giving them an added advantage. For Malcolm Foster and the rest of the survivors, nowhere is safe, old and new enemies continue to obstruct their path.
Foster and the group of survivors have reached a new destination, the home of Gregory, Charles's son. The group finds themselves amidst an extremist cult, lead by Ezekiel. He has his congregation believing that the Reapers are saviors. The saviors are a pack of territorial Reapers, patrolling the town from non-cult members. The connection between the Reapers alpha and the cult leader is more than meets the eye. To remain safe, survivors must find a way out of the undesirable town. Meanwhile, Foster is still being hunted by Berks, the megalomaniac alpha of red-caped Reapers and his soldier.
Brian Callanan does an exceptional job capturing the nuances of personalities and emotions of the characters. I'm floored by his ability to perform a wide range of accents and distinguishing tones. His inflections and timing during the battle scenes are excellent, giving a real edge to the story. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.
This was a satisfying post-apocalyptic story, fast-paced with quality plot and character development. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
Foster continues to try and get his group to safety in this 3rd book and finds out Reapers aren't his only enemy. The Reapers have hit the US military hard and when the military responds with force disaster happens. No spoilers! This is a great series with characters you have come to care about. The story line is well written and full of excitement and action. My only irritation is I feel Foster's group should have shared the Reapers' weakness. So many people are dying and if the Government knew how to stop them countless deaths could have been prevented. Yes I get it was still a bit untested, but why not get the news out. The government could have produced silver bullets to try the method. It just frustrated me a bit.
I still really like this series. The 3 star rating is simply because I think book 3 is a slight step down from books 1 & 2 which I had a 4 stars. I think this book was designed as a setup for book 4, which I am still excited to read. There was a lot of shopping for supplies in this one and ultimately very little got resolved by the end for our characters. The villain arc took an interesting turn, but I expect the fourth book will have answers to my questions. Still enjoying the world building outwardly as the events unfold. I think that is a unique perspective on apocalypse that this series does well. Looking forward to reading the next one and seeing where this goes.
Eat up! This book is fast paced, action packed, and will leave you hungry for the next one. I loved every bit of it. This is the third book in the series and it's still going strong. It was just as awesome and just as exciting as book number one. I fully recommend this series to everyone!
The survivors struggle to stay alive while the reapers discover more about the different packs Brian does an excellent job narrating the series If you enjoy high action survival horror definitely check this out I received a free review audiobook and voluntarily left this review
This is a page turning thriller. This is the continuing of the Reapers, humans that have been transformed by a lab experiment gone bad. Reapers can infect and transform humans by biting them. Foster and his fellow survivors continue to fight the Reapers by shooting them in the head or they will heal themselves if shot elsewhere. There is a lot of action to keep you interested.
The Wretched has been a series I have kept reading. In Wretched Retribution, there is plenty of action and even a few new things introduced such as "yellow eyes" and a hit of what extra powers those can do. Nothing dull about this series. Bravo, E.G.!
