Gloucestershire lorry driver Tony Hedges sets off on the road north, his mind on an unresolved argument with his wife. Within hours all contact with him is lost.
Two days later a boy taking an early morning run on the Derbyshire moors falls across something macabre in a disused quarry. DCI Ben Cooke and his team must identify the human remains found there, and establish whether a crime has been committed.
Is Tony a victim or a suspect? As events unfold, and the past is uncovered, seemingly unconnected lives will be changed forever.
Don't be misled or put off by the cover - this book is a great crime mystery and a nice easy read. Fans of British "whodunnits" will love this one.
The story is well thought out and well written with in-depth attention to detail and the plot is brought together well with some great twists thrown in too. I also liked reading of the many locations I am familiar with. I will look forward to see what this author brings next.
This is a ‘who done it’ where you aren’t really sure what ‘it’ is. It is well written and well thought out. Its chapters break down the days, or parts of the days, detailing what the different characters are doing in each time period. It works really well. There are no leaps in logic which can ruin a good mystery book. There are a few threads that the author brings together nicely to make a complete and cohesive story. Though it’s easy to follow, the summary that one of the characters provides at the end is still a nice touch. I really enjoyed reading this and I recommend you give it a try
