When 18-year-old Eve runs away from her small village to start a new life in the city, she quickly discovers that Leeds is not everything she expected it to be. Wandering the cold streets in search of shelter, timid Eve can only find work as a barmaid at the Bluebell Inn - a place her strict parents would never approve of.
Serving ale and cheap gin to the rowdy crowd, Eve eventually catches the eye of dashing Sergeant Joseph Oates – but his intentions are not honourable and he will leave her with more than just a broken heart…
A gritty and heart-breaking saga set in Leeds from the author of The Girl from Pit Lane.
This was my first Gracie Hart book but it certainly won't be my last. Absolutely loved it. Cannot wait for the follow up, and have ordered her earlier books from my library on Borrowbox.. Brilliant characters and great story telling.
Absolutely loved this book - just my kind of book, thoroughly enjoyed the theme, the accuracy to the time period, and the emotional rollercoaster of a storyline. Very well written and fantastic to read with a cuppa to get away from the world for a bit and follow the story of the truly inspiring Eve Reynolds, would recommend 100%!
Amazing book loved the story of both women both womens lives changed But sad moments at the end Can’t wait to read The Gin Palace Girl about Eve’s Daughter recommend everyone reads this book
Had I not been gifted this from a dear lady I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of this amazing read. I loved it from beginning to end and will certainly be on the look out for more from this author
First book of the Year ! i will give it 4⭐️ it was a good book, very easy read 📖 … definitely pulled on the heart strings and made me cry at then end 😢💔…
Very good story. Felt sickened with the dog fighting scenes though. Was integral ti the story though as that had a lot to do with how Eve ended up the way she did.
