Soul Circus is a hugely acclaimed collection of short stories in Telugu. The book contains 11 short stories including the Sakshi Ugadi award winning story "Resurrection", "Soul Circus" and many other popular stories written by Venkat Siddareddy over last 3 years.
First of all thanks for making the book available in e-format on both kinige and amazon. I wish there are many other books available in e-book format. I don't want to rate this book because I am probably not smart enough to understand the subtext in some of the stories. And although I haven't read many books, I can say that the author doesn't follow any typical/conventional story-telling style. The first story in the book, “Shadows of the forgotten” has a twist, which anyone can see it coming, but there’s another one at the end that catches you off-guard. The characters like Chitvaan and Henry in other stories will be remembered long after you finish reading them. The stories contain many interesting lines about life, love and the process of writing itself. There’s a non-linear narration in almost all the stories and it’s almost like a movie playing in your mind(I especially liked this in “speed x time”). “Cock and Bull” is another interesting story which talks about human traits without getting too serious. However, I found “The games we play” to be too long and probably not as interesting as some other stories. The reviews at the end of the book helped me appreciate(and understand) the book more. The author felt that the stories that are being written in telugu are not interesting enough and has taken the responsibility of doing so. I would say, he has succeeded to a large extent.
Excellent read.. loved all the stories in the book. The best part for me personally is every story connecting to me at some or other point which the writer discussed.Venkat Siddareddy gaaru has a unique eye towards life and loved his philosophy.
