The author had me at "Cancel, cancel!" (Which works amazingly well, by the way.) What an interesting book! Honestly, I was afraid it was going to be complicated but it's not. I had no idea that the subconscious mind didn't register words like "no" or "not" - so if you say "I don't like cookies, anymore" the mind hears "I like cookies." Who knew? There are bonus resources available online at no additional cost, too. I definitely recommend this book!
I’ll admit that I delayed reading this book because I didn’t believe in hypnosis. But I really wanted to help Grace Smith as a fellow Smith because there are so few of us that we have to stick together LOL. This is a slow read but I must say that I was impressed with the content. It is so Positive! There are so many ideas that seem so simple but I had never thought about before. I always tended to be a mood eater and used food to make me feel better, even though it never works. I totally endorse this book because I think that if you follow Graces step by step process you can learn to hypnotize yourself and otherwise it gives positive reinforcements and ideas that can help you even if you don’t believe in hypnosis. I’ll admit that I’m not the total non believer that I once was.
The "cancel, cancel" trick to change your thinking/focus is fantastic. I use it all the time when I realize I am in a pattern of negative thinking or spinning terrible what-ifs in my head. Not sure if the hypnosis works or not. I've been trying it for a couple months and haven't seen any change in weight or in my behaviors that lead to excess weight.
A no go for me. It started off wrong and had a kind of pompous cult feel about it. I started thinking "wait, why do i have to be sorry for what i look like?" I'll just be fat. It's ok

In this one she does an excellent job of addressing the behaviors around diet/exercise, but then goes deeper and helps us understand the emotions at play. I especially appreciated her understanding of how limiting beliefs hold us back from losing weight.
My only criticism is some of the affirmations were a little strange and off-putting! Chewing food until it turns to liquid is just something I couldn't get myself to do.
I read this book as a part of my hypnosis certification program. Close Your Eyes Lose Weight contains a lot of useful information that can support one's weight loss journey. It includes information on studies related to weight loss which I enjoy reading. I like the way that the book is organized and the use of logs to track progress. It covers different areas that need to be addressed for a holistic and sustainable weight loss program.
This book has been such an incredible tool. I have always struggled with my weight and body image, and the guidance and healing that Grace takes you through in Close Your Eyes, Lose Weight is genuinely› profound. This book will truly become your next 12-week manual for falling back in love with your body and self.
I personally haven’t had challenges with weight, but I feel like this book has definitely given me an upper hand when it comes to my clients who wish to lose weight. I’m a lot more confident to take weight loss clients now.

The spoken "quote, end quote" in the audio book drove me crazy - sometimes more than twice a sentence. Made it very hard to concentrate on the content.

The topic of weight can be touchy, but Smith has presented the topic through the light of hypnotherapy as a simple fix, with a little bit of willpower on the recipient's end. Smith presents the topic of self-hypnotherapy in a positive and uplifting way. In Chapter Two, she explains how to conduct self-hypnotherapy and the benefits of the three levels of hypnotherapy: private sessions, hypnotherapy recordings, and self-hypnotherapy. Within this book is nearly every bit of information you could want about how hypnotherapy is beneficial for the act of losing weight. I love how Smith makes it clear that regardless of the topic of her book, she embraces and preaches body positivity and the need for people to want this change to feel better for themselves, not for anyone else.
Hypnosis helps with weight loss for sure. As a hypnotist-in-training, I can testify to this because of the good results my own client has had with some of the hypnotic suggestions/affirmations from this book. The affirmations were tweaked to fit my client's specific situation and belief system. My client not only lost the amount of weight she wanted to lose in a reasonably short amount of time, but was able to drop some of her food addictions: "Potato chips, brownies, and ice cream don't call to me anymore. It worked!" I myself also benefited from this book and the recommended hypnosis affirmations and recordings. My favorite chapter from the book was the one handling emotional eating, which I believe many in the modern world could relate to... If you're looking to lose weight but cannot afford a full hypnotherapy package or this book, I invite you to go to the Grace App and go through the series with the same title as this book. I love this book. I never thought self-hypnosis would work. It really does. She does a great job of explaining and slowly taking one through the process.
