Ich habe es mir schon gedacht mit jeden Band wird die Handlung tiefgründig. Weiter geht's mit dem dritten Band.

Der zweite Teil von Sparkly Lion Boy war meiner Meinung nach leider etwas schwächer als Teil eins. Die Handlung knüpfte an den ersten Teil der Reihe an, allerdings lies sie sich sehr, sehr viel Zeit. In dieser Band ist mir häufiger aufgefallen, dass ganze Seiten einfach mit einem „Blickkontakt“ gefüllt waren, in denen niemand etwas sagte, nichts geschah und auch nicht unbedingt eine super emotionale Szene daran anknüpfte bzw. dem vorweg ging. Ich fand auch, dass die Handlung in diesem Manga doch ziemlich vorausschaubar war. Das, was an Handlung in diesem einen Band geschieht, hätte meiner Meinung nach auch in 1 – 2 Kapiteln erzählt werden können.
Nichtsdestotrotz bleibt die Story weiterhin unschuldig und zuckersüß. Die Zeichnungen von Yoko Maki sind natürlich wieder einmal mehr als gelungen – allein deshalb hat sich dieser Band trotzdem gelohnt. Schön fand ich auch zu sehen, dass vor allem Miwa langsam, aber sicher eine ordentliche Charakterentwicklung mitmacht. Im nächsten Teil bekommen wir denke ich auch nochmal mehr von ihrer besten Freundin und Beschützerin mit – darauf bin ich schon echt gespannt. Für diesen schönen, aber etwas handlungsärmeren zweiten Teil vergebe ich 3,5 Sterne.

This was as much a surprise as it wasn't. I should like to start off by saying that the premise of Kirameki no Lion Boy is very, very simple. Miwa is shy and rather oblivious to most of the ins and outs of social life; she used to get bullied at school and has thus learned to hide behind a book - or manga, to be more specific. She has one outgoing friend Niko who is very protective of her. A chance meeting brings them together with Kiriatsu who immediately falls for the sweet Miwa. They tentatively start a relationship and Miwa slowly but surely comes out of her shell.

And that just about sums up the plot of the entire 10 volume series. The thing is, Maki Yoko can most definitely pull off a simple plot and make it memorable through loveable characters, so that in itself is not an issue. But her previous work - Romantica Clock - was similarly simple structured and I was truly bored with it. Add that Kirameki no Lion Boy is Maki's last work before retiring from the manga world, I was more than a little nervous of how this would turn out. I am thrilled to say that Maki ended on a very strong note: Miwa and Kiriatsu's story is simply adorable.

As I mentioned, the story is fairly simple and there isn't much to add to what has already been said. Miwa might be shy and a bit clumsy but she is such a sweet character who is a ray of sunshine in her own shy way. Kiriatsu makes for an interesting love interest in the sense that he is confident on one hand yet also inexperienced and a wee bit clueless in matters of love. He is very direct and sometimes appears aloof and yet he is always very loving toward Miwa. They are such a sweet and well-matched pair and entirely drama-free throughout the entire series; there are no quarrels, jealousies or misunderstandings because these two are perfectly open with each other and talk things through.

The supporting cast is great (with perhaps the exception of one of Kiriatsu's friends as his sole personality trait was being fat and eating all the time - great. Can't even remember the guys name), besides the romance of the main couple, we get great friendship dynamics and once again, drama-free and well-handled scenarios of what happens when friends end up falling in love with the same person. I love Maki's art and it's particularly cute in this series. Even though nothing major happens in this series, it is super sweet and I would very much recommend it to lovers of shoujo, especially ones set in high school. I'm sad there won't be any more works by Maki, but I am glad that she ended on such a strong note.

Band 1 fand ich wirklich toll. Band 2 hier hat mir inhaltlich nicht mehr ganz so gefallen. Ich fand die ganze Sache um den Jungen, den sie von früher kannte, nicht so toll. Der Charakter war mir einfach zu unsympathisch. Trotzdem fand ich den Manga wieder niedlich und die restlichen Charaktere haben mir wieder sehr gut gefallen. Der Zeichenstil ist einer meiner liebsten. Sowohl von der Szenenwahl, als auch von der Gestaltung der Gesichter, Kleidung...

Ich bin ein wenig enttäuscht, da auf den 192 Seiten so gut wie nichts passiert ist...Band 3 muss echt besser werden, sonst breche ich die Reihe ab.

This volume delves a bit deeper into the effects of bullying, but it never loses its cuteness. It's an easy read and enjoyable enough, but nothing special as of yet.
