An Older Man Younger BBW Romance

Skye

Heading back to my hometown for my fourth-year clinical rotation seemed like such a great idea, but working at the Wilkes Animal Shelter has been far from fun thanks to Sally Haywood—an old high school nemesis who refuses to let our troubled past die.

When the biggest, hottest, most handsome cowboy I've ever seen comes around looking for Sally late one night, my first impulse is to send him right out the door. But after he jumps in to help with a difficult case, I can't seem to let him go. Trig is safe, strong, caring, and a lot older than I am. He's everything I've ever wanted in a man. Too bad Sally isn't quite ready to leave Trig—or our past—behind.

Trig

I liked my life just fine the way it was before I walked in on Skye Moore fighting to save the sweetest, saddest pup I've ever seen. And once I found myself in Skye's presence, it quickly became the only place I wanted to be. Skye is my perfect woman—tender-hearted, hardworking, sweet, smart, funny, and loaded with curves. Even if I'm way too old for her, she's everything I never knew I wanted. There's only one problem—Sally Haywood can hold a grudge like nobody's business, and now she's out to ruin Skye's career. I refuse to let that happen.

Short enough to read in one sitting and long enough to satisfy, this trope-tastic little dual POV standalone is sweet, steamy, and full of old-fashioned cowboy nobility and goodness. The love is insta, and the ending is HEA guaranteed.

Jealousy. How much jealousy can one take over something that happened at least 10 to 12 years ago? Skye is an intern to be a veterinarian. Trig, is a cowboy she wants. One thing leads to another and a relationship is underway. Sally, the villain, is creating serious scandal. This is a nice, short, sweet story. Scott has the fight to show that she has enough backbone to maybe keep her man. There is an HEA, no cheating or cliffhangers.

Trig and Skye

I really did not like Sally at all in this book. Women are scary vicious. Skye is a sweet soul and Trig is just swept away.

Loved Trig "Charlie" and Skye "Doc" and their Buttercup

Skye came back to her home town do training at the local shelter for her veterinary degree. Working with Dr McElroy has been a great education. Working with the tech Sally, is a nightmare. Skye and Sally have an ugly history dating back to high school. Sally makes sure Skye doesn't forget it.
When Skye meets Trig, they just click. He jumps in to help her care for a dog, then invited her to his brothers wedding. He takes her home to his place, where he has never taken a women before.
Trig and Skye become near inseparable. When Sally causes trouble he is there for Skye.
A sweet and steamy older man younger women romance, with a nice epilogue to wrap up their story. Love how characters from previous stories make appearances, but the stories all read well as stand alone.

He has known her since before she was born but his is only seeing her for the first time now

Skye is a 24 year old 4th year DMV student is doing a rotation at the Wilkes Animal Shelter. She was born and grew up in this same small town as her mother had taught at the local high school. One Saturday evening Trig comes into the shelter after hours while Skye is working on a stray dog that was brought in. She is in the middle of removing ticks and he is looking for Sally Haywood, a Vet Tech at the shelter. He stays to help with the dog and then invites her out. It seems he has somewhere very important to be and she is about to be his plus one. And such begins the love story of Skye and Trig. We first met Trig in the previous book Calling a Cowboy as he is Billy's younger brother. Trig is a bachelor in the truest sense of the word and not interested in getting tied down to any woman or having any kids. But that all changes over the course of that first evening as Skye is his plus one to Billy and Rosie's wedding. He watches her as she interacts with his family and especially as she cradles a baby in her arms, one of his cousin's kids. As they get to know each other over the next several weeks he becomes more enamored of Skye and she of him. He is the happy and light in her life after the dark that is her workplace, thanks to Sally.

This is a really enjoyable short story about an older man and a younger woman who find happiness at a time and place that neither expected to. Trig is really protective of Skye and only wants to make her happy which helps her to heal after a horrible incident when she was in grade 9 that not only left her scarred but also had Sally making her life a living he!! for the rest of high school. The interesting thing is that Trig wants to prove not only to Skye but also himself that he can be different and that Skye and only Skye is it for him.......thus curing the cowboy of his carousing ways. He goes about this in a very honorable and somewhat old fashioned way which was a surprise.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

I had read Calling A Cowboy, by this author and it was as my friend would say smexy and sweet. I guess my expectations were a little high with this one, unfortunately it did not endear itself to me like the first story I read. It may have been the all-consuming mean girl angst by the protagonist Sally who dominated most of the book like an uninvited person in a threesome.

Couple that with some “inconsistencies” in the storyline. At one point Skye says the only reason she’s back in town is because her parents are “gone”. For me I read that as her parents were deceased. Later on her mother appears in the book, so I think it should have been moved away to make it clearer.

Trig says he’s too old for her. He was at the clinic to pick up Sally who went to school with Skye so I’m going to go with about the same age…it was ok to knock boots with Sally and now he’s suddenly realizing there is an age difference? Then he makes the statement he doesn’t bring women to family events because it gives them the wrong idea, he was at the clinic to pick up Sally to take her to a rather important event for his family?!?!

Plus Trig’s inner monologue would go from sweet to crass when it related to what he wanted to do to Skye and I just couldn’t warm up to him. Skye had a backbone, which was nice, but she would go a bit dreamy like at times and come across as a school girl which made no sense.

For me the story did not flow as well as the first one that I read and I was having a hard time picturing them as a couple. Don’t get me wrong both characters were actually pretty nice they just didn’t have that special something to really give the story the push it needed. It may have been an overload of angst that did it for me, I don’t like overly angsty books and this one for me just had to much of it.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the fourth book in the Real Good Men of Oklahoma series. In this book, Skye is training to become a vet and is working at a clinic in her hometown. When Skye is left caring for a stray dog alone, she is surprised to hear a man enter the clinic. Trig was there to pick up Sally, a coworker of Skye's, but she had already left. Trig sees Skye helping the dog and he steps in to help her. Trig and Skye talk and Trig asks Skye to go out with him that night. Skye agrees and Trig takes her to his brother's wedding. Skye and Trig have a connection and soon they begin seeing each other, but Sally is not happy about it. I liked this story. I liked Trig and Skye together. Trig was older and he wanted to be sure Skye was sure she wanted to be with him. I like how they would talk and get to know one another. Another good one.

Skye is studying to be a veterinarian, one of her coworkers Sally hates her one night while working on an abused puppy Trig walks in looking for Sally. He is older than her and that’s not the only complications he was kind of seeing Sally but once he see Skye he instantly knows she is the woman for him, but Sally does not make that easy and the grudge she is already holding on Skye and trying to make her life difficult and not only that but she tries her best to take Skye’s job away. Trig in for the rescue Skye really did cure this cowboy he now only wants one woman. This story is insta lust , insta love and is a short read.

Gotta say, I didn't love this one. . .
I was really on such a new author "OH MY GOD I LOVE DAISY GOLD" high that I was a little unprepared for how disappointing this story was. I'm going to give this author the benefit of the doubt though--they can't all be winners. I am currently reading the 5th book in this series and while it is not off to a great start, I hope it will at least be better than this one was. We shall see. . .
