IceCats #2

Wild Tendy

Rate this book
Nico Merryweather loves women—all women. Sure, they’re sexy and fun. But “Player” is an easy reputation to hide behind, a way to keep the good times rolling and reality at bay. He’s loud, he’s cocky, he says exactly what he’s thinking, and people just laugh it off because they think they know him. But Nico makes sure no one is close enough to know the truth. With a new season starting, he is ready to play the game he can control. They’ll all be watching Nico, the goalie, but they’ll never know the man behind the mask who is just trying to breathe. He hasn’t ever wanted anyone close enough to him to see the truth, until Aviva rams herself into his ass. Literally.

Aviva Pearce’s life is a collection of bad days all wrapped up without a bow. If it can go wrong, it will. All she wants is to run her business, take care of her sister, and keep her head above water. But with a father who is out to ruin her like he has himself and debt trying to drown her, it’s hard to stay afloat. Aviva isn’t the type to waste time dwelling on her misfortunes or to give up, though. She’s got too much fight in her. And she definitely doesn’t have time to waste on the wildly sexy, rich, showboating goaltender everyone wants. She’s got goals.

What she doesn’t know is that Nico has goals of his own.

And she’s number one on his list.

Toni Aleo is one of my favorite sports romance authors. My all time favorite hockey series is her Assassin's series. I always enjoy her books, but it's been a while since she's had a 5 star hit for me. Wild Tendy is the book I've been waiting for. I did not expect Nico's book to hit me this hard, but man... it really did. I loved it so much!

Nico Merryweather is the goalie for the IceCats and a notorious ladies man. We first meet him in Chandler's book, then in Shelley's we see him again. I didn't know how I felt about Nico in those books. I mean, I liked him, but I wasn't sure how he would be as the hero of the story. He's a bit extra and a lot to handle at times, but the more you get to know him, the more you love him. He just needs to find the right girl.
"You need the kind of woman that is strong and can handle your extra-ness."

When he meets Aviva he knows he found that girl. The only problem? Aviva wants nothing to do with him. It's not Nico, it's men in general. She doesn't have time for them. She's barely breaking even after all her bills running her family business and raising her teenage sister. Her life is crazy busy and she's doesn't have time for any extra complications. But Nico is a hard man to say no to. Especially when he becomes chummy with Aviva's sister. It makes him even harder to resist.

With time, Aviva sees that Nico really does care for her and wants to make her life easier. She has not had an easy life and finds it hard to accept help, though. Nico has such a beautiful and giving soul, he just wants to make things better for her. It causes a bit of tension. Both Nico and Aviva have been through a lot. Hearing about both of their backstories and seeing where they are now was inspiring and beautiful.

This story was wonderful. I smiled, I laughed, and I cried like a baby through this book. A lot of the tears were happy, but some parts just hit me so hard. Nico is a one of a kind character who I adored. He's funny, sweet, and amazing just the way he is. Toni wrote him perfectly. And Aviva is one of the strongest heroines ever. She was stubborn and tough but she had to be. I loved watching Nico wear her down. When she finally let him in, she let him all in. I loved this couple together so much, and the family dynamic was everything. I think my favorite part was their relationship with Aviva's sister, Callie. I especially loved her and Nico together. Partners in crime.

This book was so special to me. I truly loved everything about it. If you're a fan of strong heroines, swoony heroes and sports romances, pick this one up! It was fantastic. I can't wait to read more from the IceCat's series and I'm hoping one day we get a Callie book because I love that girl!!

I have so much to say about this book but I'm going to try and keep this short since I think it's a story best read when you go in blind. Nico was honestly a character that I was really sure about, he's been around in the previous book and even in the Nashville Assassins: Next Generation series but he was hard to get a read on. He could act like a total ass but at the same time you could tell that there was more to him. For the most part I was excited to see what his story was and now that I've finished it I am totally Team Nico.

He had me smiling so much while he was trying to get Aviva to give him a chance. And I love that she made him work for it, mostly for the selfish reason that I really adored when he was being so sweet and wooing her. Aviva was very easy to like, even when I wanted to just smack her and make her stop being so stubborn at times. I admired that she was so determined to not take handouts and to work for everything she had, but at times that stubbornness went a little too far.

Overall, this was an amazing story and one I definitely recommend reading. It could be read as a standalone but there are cameo's from Chandler and Amelia from the first book and some may consider a few things mentioned as a spoiler.

Like the previous book, Wild Tendy is a doze of over flowing cheesy goodness. I do not mind a good cheesy goodness, like books from Maya Banks. Somehow Miss Aleo makes the chessy part too much and flat in the middle

The middle of the book is full of how great and how sweet love is between Nico and Aviva. Even the name Eviva is like a porn star. Nico's disability should not a big of deal. Neither is his good deed toward Aviva.

The story has a promis at the beginning. If only it has more drama/ angst on it.

I do not hate it nor like it either.

Wild Tendy was the second book in Toni Aleo’s IceCats series. It focused on Nico Merriweather, a star NHL goalie.

So, I can’t say too much in this review because in the introduction the author asked us not to reveal any spoilers so the the reader can watch the story develop. And I must say, she’s right. It was a better experience with a piece by piece reveal. This was a very unique perspective and I loved every moment of it. I totally understand Nico better and have fallen in love.

It was a realistic journey filled with fun, emotional moments, life lessons, education, and an abundance of humor. I loved Nico. I mostly loved Aviva but I had a hard time with some of her independent stubbornness. I can’t elaborate without spoilers but she frustrated me at times, but in the end, she was a great match for Nico and I loved them both.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters of Chandler (book one), Callie and Jaylin. Their interactions added depth and humor to the storyline. It looks like we’ll see them again - Callie in Bellevue Bullies and Jaylin in this current series. I totally can’t wait!

Overall I loved it so much that I could read more. Please have a part two, or at least a secondary focal point in other books.

There is so much more to say about Wild Tendy, but I won’t. Read it. You won’t be sorry.

I LOVE LOVE CALLIE ( Aviva’s sister) AND I ADORED NICO. I obviously loved Aviva’s strength and how she works hard to make ends meet to provide for her sister. However, I do admit I was a little disappointed. This book started out so GOOD but later on I Just didn’t see it being more than a 4 star. Why you ask is because I’ve read this kind of book before and there is no more guessing what’s going to happen it’s just predictable. That does not mean I didn’t like the book for what it was I did and the characters made it even better. So to sum all that up I still enjoyed it but was a tiny bit disappointed.

There are a lot of things I liked about this book. I applaud the author for tackling two difficult subject matters/health issues and doing them justice. She's created some winning characters with whom the reader easily connects and becomes invested in. Hockey romances are popular, and this is on par with others I’ve read, from the camaraderie between players and the bromance between Nick and Chandler to the action on the ice and the lifestyle off the ice. And Aviva's sister, Callie, is an ingenious addition to the cast and steals her share of scenes.

Without the first chapter, this book would have been pretty great. When will authors understand that there is a significant group of readers who don’t want to read about intimate details between the hero and someone other than the heroine? For many of us, it leaves a bad feeling that can rarely be overcome, making the hero irredeemable for us. Sure, tell us what a dog the hero is, have him joke about his exploits, but. Do. Not. Show. Us. We don’t want those details! Any author worth her salt can impart pertinent information to the reader without taking her through the experience. Yes, we needed to know that Nico has a thing about certain aspects of intimacy, but we would easily get the point without being walked through it and then rehashing it with Chandler and Amelia.

Having said that, it appears I’ve veered out of my lane because all of the other reviews are glowing. I do feel strongly about the skeeve factor and personally know other readers who do too, so I thought it only fair to say something. And truly, other than the first chapter, it’s a compelling, engaging story. But this way, other readers can make their own decision about whether to try this book, try it and skip the first chapter, or move on to something else.

I have wanted Nico's book since we were first introduced to his character.  There was just something about the quirky, over the top, goalie. I fell more in love with Nico in this book.

It kills me that I didn't end up loving this book because I tried,  I truly tried but I just hated Aviva. I couldn't get passed certain things about her and didn't think she really ever found her self worth.  There's  a difference between pride and being completely unreasonable about things, and Aviva I hate to say it was a bitch when something doesn't go the way she wants, and it wasn't just one instance, that I could forgive, but it was multiple ones. Also the way Shellie acted when she saw Nico was immature and bitchy.

I'm hoping that this was just one of those off books for me because I love this author.

Be still my heart. Nico is as vulnerable as he is cocky and he totally owned me from the get-go. This is an amazing story about some truly perfectly imperfect characters who have their own stories to tell. I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end, through every moment whether it be sweet, tender, difficult, funny or sexy. I went through the gamut of emotions I expect from Toni Aleo. She really knows how to give me everything I’m looking for in a story and I really love her style! Aviva and Nico are as perfect together as they can be and I love watching them fall in love and give everything to each other and taking in return, the way it should be. I love the relationship Nico develops with Aviva’s sister Callie and how she is his champion. It is just so heartwarming and awesome! They may not take the easiest of roads to a HEA but love does seem to conquer all and find a way. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I adore the ending!

Wild Tendy is book two in the IceCats series. Nico is a star goalie and Aviva is the owner of a local 90’s themed sandwich shop. After a rough day, Aviva accidentally runs into the back of Nico’s car. This begins Nico and Aviva’s friendship/beginning of their romantic relationship. I liked Aviva for the most part. She is very independent, does not like to accept help from others and is determined to rely on nobody but herself and her sister. Starting this book, I had mixed feelings about Nico. I remembered his character from the previous book and it wasn’t a good memory, but I was curious about him and his story did not disappoint. Nico is so lovable once you get to know him. I don’t want to give anything away, so my advice is to just read this story and you’ll love it.

Toni Aleo has outdone herself with this book! In my opinion, it is her best story yet! It brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my lips and I didn’t want to put it down. You will have no choice but to fall in love with Nico, Aviva and her sassy sister Callie.
There is so much depth to these characters and they each have a story to share, but you will need to read this for yourself and I know you will enjoy every word as their story unfolds.
Aviva and Nico are both vulnerable, yet strong and have been hurt in their past that effects their perceptions and reactions today and they each have their own challenges but they are both hard workers, protectors of those they love and absolutely perfect for each other.

I have to say that this book just did not do it for me. While I typically love her books, I had a hard time enjoying the heroine in this story, she came off more ungrateful then anything, and I didn’t like how Shellie was made out to be either when she was so graceful in her book. All in all a solid 2 out of 5 for me

Starting off the book with blowjob scene between hero and other woman is a great way to start off a romance book, don’t you think? *rolls eyes*

Then the hero keeps on talking about other another woman and how great she was in bed. Pretty sure she was a heroine in another book.

5 star Review Wild Tendy (IceCats #2) by Toni Aleo

Wow. I got this late last night and spent most of the early hours of this morning reading Wild Tendy as I simply could not put it down.

If you are expecting this to be just another hockey story with a hot player who has the world at his feet and can and does anything he wants too, then you are in for a shock. This book has heart and soul with characters that will draw you in and is an outstanding story; this is one of my favourite reads of 2019 and one that I highly recommend.

Nico Merryweather, where do I start? He captivated me from the very start and I fear I have yet another new book boyfriend. Aviva Pearce, what a strong, independent, wonderful woman she is. I loved these two characters separately and even more when they got together, they are absolutely perfect for each another.

Nico is so swoon worthy that he just about melted my heart at times. All the characters. were well developed and easy to relate too; I loved Aviva and the relationship she has with her sister Callie and Nico’s interactions and support of Callie is heartwarming. It was also fun to catch up with Chandler, Amelia and their twins and see how they are going.

This is a story like no other, it is about people who are flawed and yet through strength and determination they fight their way back from what life has dealt them and achieve goals that many thought would never happen. If anyone deserved to fall in love and live happily ever after it is Nico and Aviva.

Toni Aleo leads the league with WILD TENDY (IceCats #2). This is Nico Merryweather’s and Aviva Pearce’s story. Nico is Chandler Moon’s (JUICY REBOUND, IceCats #1) best friend. He dated Shelli Adler (DUMP AND CHASE, Nashville Assassins: Next Generation #1). Nico is an entertaining character. I was really looking forward to his story. WILD TENDY exceeded my expectations. This sports romance is suitable for adult readers.

I liked Nico before reading his story. I adore him now. Toni Aleo did an amazing job developing her characters. There was so much to discover about Nico. He had a lot of obstacles and challenges to overcome. His background explains his quirks. Aviva is the perfect match for Nico. She gets him. She is hard working. She has a lot of responsibilities, including raising her younger sister, Callie. She has her own set of issues to conquer. The two have powerful chemistry.

I enjoyed the plot. The story was unexpected, yet realistic. Toni Aleo once again does a fantastic job getting you into her character’s heads and creating a story with significance. I would love to see Callie get her own book. Followers of Toni Aleo will not be disappointed with WILD TENDY. I recommend this book to people who enjoy sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This is Toni Aleo's best book yet! Not only is Nico, the swoon worthy Hockey Goalie hot, but he is smart, quirky, funny and sexy as all get out. The way he loves with his whole heart and soul adds more to his looks than anything else. He is honest and tells you exactly what he is thinking. A quality that will melt every and any heart that meets him(or reads this book!)
Aviva is a woman that can be looked up to. A woman that has taken on the role of mother and provider to her sister Callie. I admire her and love her strength and convictions. Together, Nico, Aviva, and Callie make the cutest family ever, one that will melt your heart, bring you tears and make you laugh out loud.
I gushed to my co-workers as I was reading, because this was the most beautiful and original story that I have read to date. I mean there is angst, the is passion and there is love, but there is simply so much more. More heart, more love and more family bonding. I love Nico, I simply love him, of all the Nico's I have read about Nico Merryweather is my favorite book boyfriend ever. This is now my Favorite book of the YEAR! If I could give the Sub Hero, 20 Stars I would.
Man I hope there are more books in this series, cuz I am hooked. And by hooked I mean I want more of Nico and Aviva.... Please!

Wild Tendy is Book Two In Toni Aleo’s Ice Cats Series and all I Can Say is that Nico Merryweather has most certainly has stolen a piece of my heart. Nico is an outstanding goalie with an outstanding ego, but when he meets Aviva Pearce in the most unlikely of circumstances you can’t help know he has met his match.
Aviva Pearce is a strong minded woman who not only takes care of her incredible sister Callie but runs her own business without the help of no one, until Nico Merryweather comes into her life do you see her walls start to crumble.
Nico & Aviva both have their own stories to tell but you have to just sit back and enjoy their words and watch how the whole story unfolds. You will find yourself laughing out loud with the antics they get into but you will also find yourself sighing at how incredible they are together but what you will definitely feel is the love you will see when you watch this Amazing Couple realize it too.

Toni Aleo is my go to sports romance author. If you can't tell by the fact that it gets its own bookshelf, hockey romances are my favorite. It could be because I love the sport on its own, but it just tends to be way better than any other sport (soccer romance is a close second).

I love how different each story she writes is. This one dealt with unique issues. Both characters really struggled with a personal "problem" and the book shows how their attempt to overcome it.

She released Juicy Rebound this year and now this! I'm extremely curious to see who will be our next Ice Cats man. My money is on Kirby.

This is also a fan series because I'm a loyal Assassins fan. But this team makes me question it a bit, at least with the newer dudes. I love Nico so much that I'm on the Aiden hating bad wagon... For now.

How do you write a review for a book that has left you completely speechless. I am literally sitting here with tears in my eyes and a huge smile on my face...

Wild Tendy may be Ms. Aleo's best book to date. The writing is superb and the story... well she has taken the romance genre and flipped it on its ear. Wild Tendy is so very unique and utterly beautiful.

Not only has Ms. Aleo written a beautiful and unique romance she has written a story full of hope. Wild Tendy has everything you except from a Toni Aleo novel and so much more... words cannot describe the emotions I feel for this book.

Nico pulled at my heart-strings right away, him being French-Canadian and all. Even his "secret" diagnosis made me love him even more.

Aviva is one strong chick and I respect that. Her drive never diminished even under insurmountable odds.

Their banter is hilarious and Nico made me giggle with his blunt and a little arrogant comments. This was a new to me author and I'm so impressed that I'm thinking of starting the Assassins series from the beginning.

Ugh, man, I am just striking out with these hockey-themed books, lately. This is my second try for Toni Aleo, and once again it's a swing and a miss. And yeah, I know, I'm mixing sports references here, but baseball's got the better terms, so can you really blame me?

Anyways, I had high hopes going in to this book, because the little glimpse I'd seen of Nico in one of Aleo's other books had me hoping I'd love him. He's built up to be this "player" (even if we're warned right off the bat that there's more beneath the surface), but we see absolutely none of that in this book. The second Nico meets the female lead, Aviva, he's all-in, and that just seems so completely opposite from what we'd been told to expect that I just couldn't help but be disappointed. A major player-type character immediately dropping everything on a dime the second he meets the female lead? It's a pet peeve of mine, because it's just so ridiculously unrealistic.

I also didn't understand why Nico liked Aviva in the first place, but hey, that's apparently just me. I don't know, but I just never really connected with her character. She just seemed... I don't know, too stereotypical to me. I feel like we only learned about her tragic backstory, and never actually got to know anything more about her. Does she have any quirks? Hobbies? Interests? I just finished this book and hell if I know, man. All I know is she's a proud, independent woman who doesn't want help from anyone even when she's drowning in debt and barely managing. I mean, okay, I could get behind that... but there's nothing more to her character besides the tragic backstory. ...I can't get behind shells of characters.

Nico, though, I actually did end up liking a lot, even if he ended up being completely different from what other books might have suggested. Don't know why he liked Aviva so damn much, but whatever. It was still cool to read more about him. Still, my general like for his character wasn't enough to make the story feel like it was really moving. The plot seemed to drag on for me, even though the book isn't actually all that long, and a lot of the tension just felt overly contrived.

Also, fuck Aviva for hearing an acquaintance reveal she's feeding her baby formula, and immediately asking: "You're not breastfeeding?" Like, I get she wasn't coming at it from a judgmental way, but you don't just ask people that, especially someone who isn't a super close friend or relative. And she should know better, given her own background and concerns.

Also also, what in the ever-loving hell is with all of these books ending in ? That's another major pet peeve of mine, and I just don't understand why it seems to be such a common thing in this genre. Like, it's not sexy, and in reality, often doesn't make for a happy ending, so what the actual hell? And speaking of not sexy: the sex scenes in this book left a lot to be desired. They were pretty few and far between, which was actually a good thing, because they really weren't steamy or emotional or compelling in any way whatsoever. But, I mean, they weren't repulsive, either, so there's that.

Two stars.

ARC received for an honest review

Wow! Just Wow! I didn't think any of Toni Aleo's men could make me love them more than I love those Assassin boys, but Nico Merryweather just blew them out of the water in Wild Tendy.

He is a wonderful combination of cocky and arrogant, mixed with a vulnerability that makes you fall for him, and fall hard.

I loved the Nico and the lovely Aviva aren't perfect. We read all these stories where the hockey hottie has everything fall at his feet, doesn't have to work for anything and always gets the girl. I love that Nico has flaws that make him so much more relatable.

Aviva, I love how strong she is, how she does anything and everything for her sister, and doesn't give up. Not going to lie, I may have shed a tear or two at times with her story - that was when I wasn't getting frustrated with her for being so darn independent.

Our lovelies were nothing like I was expecting - and I loved it that way.

A beautiful, unique story of falling in love when you think it is never going to happen for you - gives us all a bit of hope.

I can't wait to see what Ms Aleo brings us next.

When I saw that this book was about Nico I wasn't excited, I didn't like how he was with Shelli in the last book. Seeing the cover didn't help. There is something about the guy that comes off as creepy/smarmy to me, I think it's the smile. So very reluctantly I started reading this book, so color me surprised that I ended up really liking this one.

Aviva definitely had a chip on her shoulder, but I felt like she deserved it. It seemed like if it wasn't for bad luck she would have no luck. As I read about bad thing after bad thing happened to Aviva I was stunned and surprised that she could keep going, having Callie seemed to help, giving her someone to focus on other than the myriad of problems that she had. The sisters had a great relationship and their arguing often time brought laughter.

I liked how Nico was dumbfounded when meeting Aviva. He was tenacious in his pursuit of Aviva, but not in a creepy way. Heck, Nico even found ways of helping ease some of Aviva's burdens in ways that she was ok with.

Their relationship was very much a roller coaster due to all the issues that each of them have. But slowly as they shared their secrets they found a way to comfort the other and show how the bad wasn't bad at all.

I really liked the ending, liked the place where everyone was and how they were chasing their HEA with smiles.

I ended the book and felt in awe. I was a little speechless. Toni blew me away with her powerful words and creative writing. She penned such a beautiful story to pull on the heartstrings and opening your eyes to the unexpected.

You may have thought you know who the real Nico Merryweather is, with his love for woman and playboy ways, but you don’t know the half of it. This man is special and has so many layers that I couldn’t wait to see what he’d come up with next.

You want to find out who the real Nico is then you need to pick up Wild Tendy and hang on for one wild ride. He has a special place in my heart and I’m really not ready to share him but I might just so you can get a glimpse of this remarkable man.

Aviva is a warrior who is strong and independent and I couldn’t have picked a better woman to knock Nico on his butt. And let me tell you about that spitfire Callie. She is sassy and smart and going places. Nico didn’t have any chance but to love these two.

This story will surprise you in the best way possible. You don’t want to miss any of the action in this Ice Cats series. Toni is the queen of hockey with a mix of endearing romance and sexiness.

Wow! This book was so freaking good, I have read enough of Toni Aleo's books to know that I am a huge fan, but she freaking out did her self with Wild Tendy and Nico Merryweather!

Nico is amazing, who knew that so much was hidden under the surface. NO SPOILERS but this man is AMAZING and deserves all of the best!

Aviva Pearce basically gets the short end of the stick every freaking time. She is not used to good things happening to her and when something good does come into her life, she questions it completely. So how can the hot shot goalie really want her?

You have to read this book to get the full meaning and see the beautiful story under neath it all. I will let you know that there are several gut wrenching moments that broke my heart, but Toni put it back together again!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! If you enjoy sports romances that have deep meaning in the stories, I cannot recommend this book more to you!!

I would like to thank Toni Aleo and L Woods PR for allowing me an advanced copy to read and review! <3

This story was a mix of romance but depression. The females in the heroines family have a genetic disposition to breast cancer. We hear about it constantly how she feels about her scars how she wants augmentation for her and her sister for when her sister gets her mastectomy- like some gift she’ll be given. It’s real, I know but at the same time it’s difficult to feel the romantic side of things when she doesn’t like herself because of her scars. I know the author goes to lengths to show the reader how far the heroine goes into actually accepting herself I just don’t know if she ultimately does. As soon as she has the money the fake boobs are going in...

Then he doesn’t convince me either because his whole outlook is to achieve a goal of being normal like his friend. This means he needs a woman in his life and he picks Aviva. I wish he told her first and not lil sis. In fact he seemed closer to the sister than the heroine. Ok it’s probably just me but that’s how I read it. So not totally convinced of the hero not just rescuing the heroine but actually falling in love.🙃

Ahhh Nico. Love when an author gives us a veritable bad boy and makes our hearts melty and gooey for him. Nico is not only a player with the ladies, he has been pretty vocal about being jilted in the past. Really an a$$ about it. Forget all of that about him. When you get to know the man behind the mask the world sees, you will fall in love with him.

I LOVED Aviva for him! She was awesome. I loved that her sister was trying to play matchmaker. I loved that she made Nico work for her affection. I loved that he was able to tear down her walls and let her live again.

Awesome story. All the feels--smiles, tears, anger (boooo to Aviva's dad!), romance. Oh, and there is some hockey in there too. Just a great read all around.
