Fanny Fern, born Sara Willis (July 9, 1811 – October 10, 1872), was an American newspaper columnist, humorist, novelist, and author of children's stories in the 1850s-1870s. Fern's great popularity has been attributed to her conversational style and sense of what mattered to her mostly middle-class female readers. By 1855, Fern was the highest-paid columnist in the United States, commanding $100 per week for her New York Ledger column.
A collection of her columns published in 1853 sold 70,000 copies in its first year. Her best-known work, the fictional autobiography Ruth Hall (1854), has become a popular subject among feminist literary scholars.
Its a set of columns by Fanny Fern written during 1868 - 1870 and in here the writer talks about different issues which irks her or where she has some thoughts to share. This is one of the oldest book I have read. And sadly even though it's been almost 150 years since the book was published some articles can be reused even today with little to no change and it would seem totally fine. World truly doesn't change as much as it seems to be changed. Basic human nature has forever remained and will remain same.
Author was a feminist as well though I don't think that the term was in use then, and her barbs for the fellow women were fun to hear and also it was fun reading/listening to the use of words 150 years and how the meaning and use of the words have changed over the years.
Do read it know about the world 150 years ago and when the author talks about war in US it wasn't WW but the civil war. so read it or some other book but Keep on Reading.
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
