I fell in love with Mallory from the start and this last book in the series did not disappoint. Mallory's gentle, deep sensitivity and her ability to see the exhilarating beauty of colors and express art captured my heart. As a character she has a lot of depth and the autistic qualities add even more dimension. She comes into her own in this last book. You see her undaunted courage, her intelligent ideas that are outside the box and you watch her finally discover her true value. It's heartwarming and I think this factor really sets the series apart from other dystopian novels I've read in a fresh and meaningful way.
The plot intensifies in this book, which I wasn't sure how that could be possible. It's fast paced with twists and turns. More layers of the characters' backstory unfold. Mysterious aspects of the story come together, tying up loose ends. The story's resolution left me feeling happy and satisfied.
This was one of my favorite dystopian series. And I read a lot, and read a lot in this genre. I felt like the author did a wonderful job of bringing readers into the characters' perspectives and allowing them to feel their emotions and experience their challenges.
