A legend among his own kind…even among the Hunters, Malachi was unique. He always had been… from the beginning. Once a slave, Malachi hadn’t ever lived free, until a mysterious woman turned him into something he didn’t understand. At first he fights it, seeing it as a different kind of bondage. Then he realizes it is his destiny. Embracing that destiny could lead to freedom-or it could lead him into an endless hell.

Author’s note: This is the story of how Malachi was Changed and how he was led to the Hunters~ although his future mate is alluded to, this isn’t their story. It’s Malachi’s story, or at least, the beginning of it.

This was a short story that gives us the background on Malachi. I really enjoyed it. When I finished I was all sorts of angry..until I realized Malachi's book is out. I was about to freak out on someone. I definitely recommend this if you've read the previous Hunters novels.

I must say that I was completely floored by the poetic, stunning writing of this short story. At first, I was not aware that this was based on a character that is much more expanded on in an actual series, so I must admit that the ending initially was frustrating, as there was no resolution. But now that I did find the Author's Note, it all makes more sense to me, and I understand why it was left so open. And I am eager to pick up this series.

It's pretty commendable that this character's past was explored with so much detail and emotion in just 54 pages. I was truly appalled by the treatment of this character, and all he was made to endure in his life, even when his new 'life' began. It is a true testament to this writer's skill that she was able to evoke such a wide array of emotions in me in such a short amount of reading time, and fill me in on so much of this character's past.

This author truly succeeded in having at least one more reader add this series to her 'to read' list. I can't wait to explore her novels, and I really want to know what happens to Malachi next.

I've read one of the later installments in this series, but it was so long ago that I'm not sure I could even remember. That being said, I don't think you need exposure to the series to appreciate this prequel.

We meet Malachi, who I assume plays a strong part in the series to have such a rich backstory. He was raised a slave, tortured, tested, and forced to "service" his latest owner. All the while, he has very vivid dreams about a mystery woman who gives him hope. How or when they meet up (I certainly hope they meet up) isn't clear from this story.

Malachi certainly goes through a world of pain before finally reaching the end of his tale. He tries to do good by a lonely woman (who ends up being a vampire), gets turned into a vampire, loses his companion, and ends up alone for a while. If this is just the beginning, I am eager to see where he ends up.

"Malachi" by Shiloh Walker. A prequil to The Hunters series.

**NOTE** Should be read after "The Huntress", also a prequil to the series.

If you've been reading this series, it was so exciting to read how Malachi came to be a vampire! And if you haven't read the series, well you'll really enjoy this story as well!

Shiloh Walker takes us back in time to before Malachi became a vampire and shows us his history and background. It also tells us how he met Alys and how he becomes a Hunter.

It's longer than a short story but not as long as a novella. Even so, a lot of information is given. Really well done and very interesting for The Hunters series fans. I really enjoyed it.

Very short. In future Hunter books, Malachi is on the concil. This explains his background. It's all in Malachi's thoughts and experiences as he goes through several phases as a slave until he's changed to a vampire and found by the Hunters.

Best part: Malachi keeping Ays from running to Jacob

I am glad I read this after Heart and Soul ... it would have been too sad otherwise.

This was a great little short story about how Malachi gets turned into a vampire, and how he is so strong. I thought at first we were getting his HEA but that's actually in another book that has two hunters stories in it with one plot. This was a great read for some of the back story and we do get to meet his mate in this short story. This was a good read if you've ever wanted to know more about Malachi and why he does some of the things he does.

This short novella gives the reader great insight of the life of Malachi as a slave before he was turned during (I believe) the Roman times. It also provides the reader the story of how he was turned and the life he lived with his sire.

Malachi's beginning... story jumps like a blink, and 5 years have passed.

a slave... he remembers different masters, different beatings... and freedom...

and being bitten... and pain... and changing... and throughout it all, a dream lover, whose face she can't quite see...
