4 stars!
Loved this slow-burn romance. The characters were AMAZING especially the secondary characters. I felt very bad for what Dawn has been through but her resilience was admirable. Wished the epilogue was longer. :(

Kingsley Maddison - Better known as King or Lee is an ex Navy Seal, Delta Force. No longer serving he is now running an exclusive security agency in New York City. Along with a cast of characters that I simply fell in love with. If you don’t laugh when you meet Dotti and her colourful way with words then there’s seriously no hope for you. SHE IS SOLID GOLD!

King was brought up by his sister Antoinette ‘Toni’ after the death of their parents. She dropped everything not even blinking. Hell, the glimpse we get of Toni and I'm already wondering if and when I'll get her story.

He’s not what I expected. And I have to say that I freaking loved this character. Everything about this man had me from page one. Preferring the solitary lifestyle and staying out of the limelight.

Dawn is our single mom. I won’t say she’s struggling though, she does what millions of single woman out there do bringing up their kids on there own. And doing it while kicking ass and taking names. She is such a real and fresh character. The love she has for her kids Jack and Nicole is second to none.

Everything she does is for her kids. Her ex is an absolute total waste of space. This douche takes asshole to the next level. I seriously wanted to jump in and kick his ass. His lack of empathy towards Jack is sad but his total denial of his daughter Nicole proves that he’s just a sperm donor. Not a father.

How our two leads meet? Dawn rents an apartment in the building that King and Jon own. Jon? Is a buddy from his Delta Force Days and he’s also his partner in the agency. Dawn looks after Jon’s fish while he’s away on assignment. It works for both of them. The cash Jon pays Dawn helps. It's here she meets King. These two really don't know how much they need each other. And watching it play out as you get deeper into the story you'll see what I mean.

While she works during the day she also goes to school working towards getting her teaching degree. She has a vision for her and her kids. She see’s a better future.

The way Jon is with her two kids? Squee! This man will melt even the most cynical of hearts. He's a doer and if he see's something that needs to be done he does it. The attraction between these two is a slow build. The chemistry is blindingly hot.

I'm excited to see where this series goes. If book one is any indication you know you are in for one awesome journey.

I can always count on Suzanne to deliver whenever I pick up one her stories. They are engaging. Your invested from start to finish. The attention to deal is something I look for in a read and she never lets a reader down. There's a reason she's my go to for all things romance.

The secondary characters that we meet all scream out for their turn. Get ready that's all I can say.

If your looking for a story you can invest in then STOP and jump into Before Dawn.

New Dawn!!!

Kingsley "King", "Lee" Maddison, a former Navy Seal and now co-owner of a security agency in New York City named NIGHTWIND. He was raised by his older sister Antoinette "Toni" who dropped everything after their parents' deaths. He loved his life, he stayed out of the spotlight. Then one day his world was turned upside down by a beautiful, smart and sassy single mother, Dawn .

Dawn Foster, a divorcee and single mother of two adorable children, Jack and Nicole. Everything she was doing was for them, they were her world. She was renting an apartment in the building that King and Jon Weston owned. Speaking of Jon, he's King's friend and partner in the agency.

She was looking after Jon's Goldfish while he was away, the money he gave her was very helpful to her. She even took night classes, she was studying to become a teacher. She didn't know that her life would change when she met her sexy as sin neighbor, King. But it did, they both found out that life never gives you more than you can handle.

King saw Dawn and her little ones as his. He went out of his way to protect and give them all what they needed. Despite angering the woman he was falling hard for. He understood where she was coming from. Not only did she had a deadbeat ex husband, someone close to her was very creepy and stalkerish.

When Dawn found herself in danger and King along with his team were there for her and the children. Oh my! besides the hero and the heroine, the other characters were a wonderful pleasure to meet especially Dorothea Quick and Toni.

King and Dawn got their HEA. If this book is any indication, I know the series will be glorious. Can't wait for what comes next! ;)

BEFORE DAWN is the first book in Suzanne Halliday's newest series, NIGHTWIND . It was sensual, fast-paced and intriguing. Fantastic job by Suzanne Halliday. Two thumbs up!

Omg omg omg

Such a glorious slow burn of a book.
Dawn and her little family live in a small apartment, but she looks after a neighbour fish as he's away alot.
King has a bit of a rough night after some showboating went wrong. So he's laid up Hungary and in need of so so he raids his friends freezer only for Dawn to walk in and challenge him.
Sparks fly like they both can't believe. He's intrigued by her ,she feels safe with him, until he out his foot in it.

Bring in the unbelievable slow burn which is amazing gorgeous. When you know you know.
Add two gorgeous kids that will have your heart in a spin.
Ohh and a dipstick ex husband and you in for a real ride.

Full to the brim will all the feels! A strong heroine, an alpha male, adorable kids and a crazy not by blood family. A great story of how love can hit you in the heart when you least expect it. King and Dawns story of how love can conquer all is so amazing. What a wonderful story with just the right amount of edge of your seat suspense and happiness. A happily ever after that the characters were so deserved to have!!!

Loved this short story & totally fell in love with these characters especially Jack & Nicole. Loved the instant connection between King & Dawn. I knew right away King would instantly connect with Jack & Nicole too. As I was reading I so wanted to reach into the book & just throat punch Allen & Dawn's teacher. This is a story you should not miss. I am super excited to read the rest of the series.

What an amazing book! King and Dawn are beautiful together. He's a former Navy Seal, more familiar with kicking a$$ than with kids. Dawn is a take no sh+! single mom who shows King the true meaning of being a hero. When the two come together, they are unstoppable. A beautiful and exhilarating love story with a slow burn and steamy finish

I really like this author's Justice series, was intrigued when I saw this new series. As it started I expected one thing, with the private security company it seemed like there would be a damsel in distress, love among the trouble, done. It was no where near that and what really surprised me was all the humor.

King is a hot mess, a man child fighting growing up. Dawn the super in control single mom doing her best to better herself for her kids. From the start these two hit it off. The zingers back and forth are worth reading alone. But seeing King really come back to life, to want to help Dawn, falling for her kids was the highlight of the book for me. Often times Dawn was not sure about King, that his actions were real and not patronizing her. But he proved time and time again that he was there for Dawn, for her kids, for them all and he knew that with Dawn came the kids.

I especially loved the last few chapters. King could have come off as high handed with Dawn and the new direction of their lives, but to me it felt like he was letting her know in no uncertain terms what he wanted from Dawn and found a way to give it to her.

I look forward to reading more in this series.

Before Dawn by Suzanne Halliday was by far her most intimate story of what many of us face in today’s society. It touched my heart and soul very deeply because I am a single parent of two stunning daughters myself. Although, this is definitely a story of love and passion between two people that must find their way to each other, it is also a story of self discovery and forgiveness. The heroine (Dawn) struggles with trust issues and King provides the assurances she needs.
With the love of a great guy (King) our Dawn aka my hero begins her journey with hope, healing, willingness to accept help and open her heart once again. Life is tough enough being the single parent who pretends to have it all (financially stable, raising happy kids and still keeping yourself sexy and available haha - yeah right!). This was honest, truthful and carried so much love. Kingsley Maddison and his team prove to be exactly what Dawn and her kids need. The Nightwind Series comes crashing into our hearts with a solid 5 stars and I am excited for book two. Thank you Ms. Halliday for the “hubba hubba” men you continue to send our way. Great job and fantastic insight!

Holy Cow! Before Dawn was so, so SO GOOD! Kingsley "King" Maddison is a former Navy SEAL turned investigator is struggling with some wartime demons and didn't plan on finding himself a family while recovering from his latest assignment. Dawn Foster is a single mom of two amazing kids that has had a string of crappy system-fueled hits that just seem to keep on coming. Their chance meeting over a fish tank sets them both on fire and they see something in each other that is undeniable. Dawn and the kids bring some much needed peace to his warrior soul and King steps up in ways she never could've dreamed. Together they can work to build the happily ever after that they both thought would never happen for them.
Suzanne hit it out of the park, once again. I devoured every page. The secondary characters are also fantastic. I can't wait for the second book she has planned (After Midnight) and am hoping we get to see even more books with this series.

Great new series from the Queen herself...Suzanne Halliday.

I love everything about Before Dawn! Kingsley and Dawn are just perfect for each other and her kids Jack and Nicole are just precious. The other cast of characters just make the entire book a fun read.

King is a former Seal that now is co-owner of Nightwind security with his former military buddy Jon. They also own an apartment building where Dawn and her kids live. Dawn is a struggling single mom trying to do the best for her sweet family, working and going to school. She feeds Jon's fish while he is out of the country on assignment. From there the story goes...

From the start you are cheering for King and Dawn. You will not like her ex and pray he gets dropped off a cliff somewhere. Wanting good things for good people is all we ever want and they get it in this book.

Before Dawn will put a smile on your face!!!

So flipping wordy! I get it it’s a book you want to be descriptive you want me to know everyone and what they’re like and their back story I understand. What I don’t need is all of that in the first three chapters. Please pace yourself. It was so discouraging to read I had to actually stop and take a breather. Every other minute I’m being introduced to a new unnecessary character and I’m being told their entire life story which I really don’t care about bc I’m still trying to learn the names of the 10 other character you’ve previously introduced. Slow down a little. This book honestly had a lot of potential the problem was it was trying to do too much at once.

"I'm not saying it was love at first sight, but if you keep talking like that, Kingsley Maddison, we're going to have to explore our options."

I think every woman dreams of a knight in shining armor, who swoops in and rescues her from her mess of a life. In reality, only a small percentage of us actually get one. But, for Dawn Foster, her knight may not come in on a white horse, but he does come in on motorcycle!

Kingsley "King" Maddison, ex-Navy SEAL, was on company-ordered R&R after being on the wrong end of mission gone bad. Fighting bad guys is what he does - he's done it for as long as he can remember. What he didn't expect was being brought to his knees by the fiery, single mom who lives in his building. He's not looking for love - in fact, he'd written that off a long time ago. Not only doesn't he have the time, any woman out there deserves better. But Dawn just might make him believe he might deserve it too. Now, he'll do whatever he needs to do to make sure Dawn and her kids - no HIS kids now, all they've dreamed of.

Dawn Foster is treading water, but she's still afloat. A single mom with two kids, one with medical issues, an ex-husband who can't be bothered to be a father to his children, and debt out the wazoo, she's doing anything she can to make a better life for the three of them. When the sexy, tattooed, muscled man in her building becomes entrenched in their lives, she doesn't know what to make of it. Who is this man and where did he come from? Could it be her life is turning around? He seems too good to be true, but then again, a girl's gotta dream, right?

I loved these two, and the whole cast of characters. His military/work buddies are the kind that have his back one minute, and then throw down the ribbing and the insults the next! Dottie? She's hilarious and the Mama Bear that always watches out for her six-foot-something cubs. Love her so much!! I'm so excited for this series and this book was a great start!!

Started out promising....but almost DNF it

Turned into a nightmare of social justice whining and an extremely annoying h. I got to 40% and almost didn't finish it. It's not necessary to make a single mom out to be a heinous bitch. Frankly she didn't deserve someone like King. She was snotty and ungrateful. We get it, being a single mom is hard. But then she goes on a tirade that states that carpooling alone because you made a bad choice in husband material is somehow worse than being a Seal, losing your entire team, being wounded and putting your life on the line. She has a royal bitch fit about him paying for a lifesaving treatment for her son - yet had no issue with her brother paying 6 months of their living expenses. She emasculated this alpha protector to the point that he convinced himself that the death of his team mates was nothing compared to her heroic struggles of single parenthood. Cry me a river. I wanted to throat punch her. By 50% in the book he was a woke, blushing, sniggering (yes, so. many. times. it was said) pansified shell of his former self it was like it wasn't even the same person as the beginning of the book. As for the love scenes, almost non-existent, lots of talk and no action until like 85%.....and she acted like she was a decade older than her 30 years. I gave it 2 stars for the delicious, alpha, dominant man that King started out as, too bad he slowly fizzled away. I'm interested in the secondary characters but if the books anything like this one I won't be able to get through it to get to them.

This story is fantastic. It truly is. It gets a TEN STAR rating from me!

After an abrupt surprise meeting King and Dawn gravitate towards each other cautiously and slowly, entwining their lives carefully and with purpose, which brings them to the quick discovery of love and combustible passion.

King is a strong man, hardened by military life and a bit closed off, who is used to living on his own until he meets Dawn and her sweet precocious children - Jack and Nicole. He’s epitomizes the alpha male with a heart of gold. He’s very likable and somewhat charming despite his often jaded look at life.

Dawn is a frantically busy single working mother precariously juggling her life in the best ways she can with the support and help of very few people - including her ex-husband and father of her children. While her children are her front and center and demand her best efforts she also determinedly attends night school to earn her degree. These are not easy life tasks to master.

When King and Dawn’s two worlds collide the puzzle pieces of their fractured hearts simply slip into place. Their story is sweet and compelling, riddled with a few challenges, but when their passions ignite - it’s swoon worthy.

This story has it all - interesting and likable characters with wonderful backstories, angst, humor, great banter and dialogue, quirky side characters, intrigue, and most definitely a guaranteed happily ever after. I highly recommend it!

A fantastic start to a new series

Ms Halliday knocked this one out of the park. I thoroughly enjoyed the cast of characters she introduced in this book, and the way they all came into the story organically, without it feeling like I needed to study for a test later. Dawn’s kids are freaking adorable.

King...wow. What a fantastic, hunky, funny, main character. He is a Navy SEAL, and has his issues, but just needs to find his way forward. He has no experience being around kids, and his approach to learning to be around them is so much fun. Dawn is an incredibly strong lady who refuses to let life drag her down. Seeing her gradually learn to accept King’s support and attention feels genuine and realistic. The slow burn pace of the romance is perfect for these characters, but the story still feels action packed and lively. Masterfully written. I can’t wait for the next book!

I enjoyed this story, for the most part. It made me laugh in several spots, and I eagerly followed the story to see what would happen. I liked the supporting characters and their back-stories are equally intriguing.

Unfortunately, the language was unnecessarily coarse (I lost count of the number of f-bombs by the time I hit page ten…) and the book was full of conversational sexual innuendo - not sex scenes, just innuendo in every conversation. It got old. These issues will keep me away from future books, but I didn’t want to rate down because of my preference. A solid 3.5 stars for the story line!

Fantastic slow burn!!
Kingsley “King” Maddison is the real deal, he checks all the boxes.
Dawn Foster is a fierce, divorced mother of two amazing kids.
These two belong together and we know it before they do. The way Ms. Halliday builds up the emotions and sexy chemistry with them is so well done.
King and Dawn navigate a relationship while dealing with a useless ex husband/sperm donor and sleazy professor with the help of some awesome friends and family who I hope to see more of in this series. Truly a great romantic read with just the right amount of steam.

Dawn & King are both fun characters. Not that they have a lot of time for "fun" per se, but I just mean that they were well written & were fun to read about! The way that Dawn is with her kids, the way that King instantly connects with them, even before he really realizes it... thumbs up! There's some actiony stuff going on, but mostly this is more character driven, and includes build up for the next book / couple in the series. : )

Solid 4.5 stars!
Dawn is a single, down on her luck mom and King is an adrenalin junkie turned family man. I'll admit, I was a little iffy on King at first, but I fell in love with him. He's a good man. A really good man. These two together make a great couple - with a little drama rolled into the story. Its almost insta-love.

This is my first story by Suzanne, but wont be my last.
