I write Christian Historical Western Romance. Yes, that often entails the use of firearms in a threatening manner. Sometimes there are fistfights. There may even be politically incorrect but historically accurate language. But also, there is always an inspirational message and strong allusions (at least) to the gospel.
A former journalist, I am an avid researcher and endeavor to skillfully weave truth in among fictional story lines. I love exploring the American West, especially ghost towns and museums. I have walked parts of the Oregon Trail, ridden horses through the Rockies, climbed to the top of Independence Rock, and even held an outlaw's note in my hand.
I grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina on a steady diet of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and John Wayne Westerns. My most fond childhood memory is of sitting next to my daddy, munching on popcorn, and watching Lucas McCain unload that Winchester! My daddy also taught me to shoot and, trust me, I can sew buttons on with my rifle.

My novels are all Christian Western Romance because this is the genre that lets me write about strong, pioneer women and men who struggle to find God and then live out their faith in real ways. Like good old fashioned Westerns, there is always justice, a moral message, American values, lots of high adventure, unexpected plot twists, and more than a touch of suspense. Of course, romance is always a strong element in my stories because it is such a beautiful gift from God and a perfect reflection of how he loves us: sacrificially and lavishly. My stories aren’t preachy or cheesy, but I hope they are inspirational, heart-warming, realistic, illuminating, and glorifying to God.

I grew up watching westerns on TV with my dad and I tend to enjoy a good western novel from time to time. I would have to say that Heather Blanton’s Defiance series comes closest to the shows I remember so fondly from so many years ago. At first glance one might consider her books to be a bit violent or to touch on objectionable subject matter. My husband has been watching a lot of old westerns lately and I have been surprised at their content. I guess as a child, much of it was over my head. Anyway, those were supposedly the good old days of TV and was considered family friendly. The author’s books do contain some violence and a few inappropriate characters but what shines out to me is that she has woven the word of God throughout the narrative. In her stories, even the most hardened characters have a chance of redemption and mercy always triumphs over justice, although justice is also very important.
A Destiny in Defiance continues the Defiance story with many of the same characters from the previous books. This novel can be enjoyed on its own but reading the previous three gives the reader more background on what has gone before which makes certain aspects of the story easier to understand. I won’t go into details here but the story features a continuing rivalry between two men and at least one love story. Plenty of action and danger fill its pages and the reader can expect some twists and surprises along the way. And like I mentioned earlier, following the Lord plays an important part in the lives of many of the characters which I certainly appreciate.
I thoroughly enjoyed A Destiny in Defiance as well as the previous books of the series. I hope you will take a chance on them too. Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read it there or it can be purchased in paperback or kindle format.

Binge worthy Christians and otherwise
First off...I love Christian romance. That said, if you took a peak at my reading library you would know two things. First, I'm a voracious reader and second my interest very WILDLY varied. I love all romance books but this series struck a chord with me I haven't felt in decades. Thank you MS. Blanton, for bringing such rich and challenging character development to your readers. I have felt angry, lost, hopeful and frustrated right along with your characters. I could have done with a smidge less Mia culpa, but all part of their struggle I guess. You managed to bring so many modern ( yet timeless) struggles we all deal with whether a believer or just hoping maybe, someday we could be. Thanks, again for bringing depth to a world that is so often lacking. Amanda Lee Middletown, Oh.

Another great story by Heather Blanton. This book has several strong characters and the author skillfully makes sure they do not over shadow each other. Defiance’s peace is threatened by anther evil man who intends not on to destroy Charles McIntyre but to return Defiance to its evil boom times and Charles is determined to keep such from happening. Ad a lady doctor who comers to town and keeps her qualifications secret and you got intrigue and action that will keep your interest until the last page.

Another excellent book in the Romance in the Rockies series. I have really enjoyed these books, filled with action, twists and turns. This story is complex and deals with many societal issues, one of which is appropriate vocations for women. In this novel, Charles McIntyre is faced with life and death challenges and an internal war of when to act on his own and when to allow God to take control. If you enjoy stories set in the Old West or if you enjoy books with a lot of action along with a bit of romance, don’t miss A Destiny in Defiance.

This is a wonderful book in the story of Defiance, a rough and tumble western town. The growing pains of the town, the loving and caring people and as always those that are the bone bad ones create a friction that make this a read you'll have trouble putting down. You will definitely enjoy Heather Blanton's story.

LOVE THIS AUTHOR! So much happened in this book. While this is a Christian Historical Romance, it is very honest with what happened in the old west. If you get the vapors when certain things are mentioned, then this author isn’t for you. But if you want an honest look at what life was like for Christians back when the west was wild, then this is for you!

What an interesting book. So much to cover. This book continues to cover the lives of the main characters of previous books. It introduced not only one Dr. but two. Each came into town for his or her reasons.

I am still enjoying this series by Heather Blanton. Even though Biblical fiction is my preferred genre. It has been a real treat to read. The faith, redemption and how God can use bad people and circumstances for the good of us who love him is the theme of these books.

Amazing Historical Christian fiction
This saga only gets better and better! The characters were believable, charming, and the story was heartwarming. I would definitely recommend this series. Parents please read before sharing with your older teens.

This book was epic! It was very exciting and interesting. I could hardly put it down. I really enjoyed the story line and especially the part of God's grace and forgiveness.

This is such a good book. It is helpful but not necessary to read the forerunners, but you will be hooked either way.

Heather Blanton has, of course, done it again! An excitng, romantic, adventurous story that brings faith beautifully into lives in ways that teach us to depend on our God in all things!

A Destiny in Defiance is an action-packed Western romance by Heather Blanton. Although one could read this book as a stand-alone, reading the previous books in the Romance in the Rockies series will significantly enhance the reading experience. So much happens in this book--as one character says Trouble, 'never stops coming in this town.' Blanton knows how to keep the interest high making the reader wonder how in the world will the various situations be resolved. Characters are portrayed with realistic emotions and reactions and you either love 'em or you don't! An evil, conniving villain, Matthew, who wants control of Defiance and is determined to break Charles McIntyre every way he can; a new believer, Charles, wants to bring peace and order to Defiance but struggles with doing things his former way or God's way; Naomi, steadfast in her faith despite desperate situations; Hope, a doctor who has to pretend to be a nurse so she can be accepted in a typically male profession. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with these characters as they overcome and find peace and love amidst the uncertainty of life in the town of Defiance. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own

Heather Blanton has done it again. This is an Christian western that kept me reading start to finish with an ending that has me wanting to read the next book. Great story and characters.

Best one yet! Just when Charles thinks his new life as a reformed man is going well, the past comes blazing back. Will he succumb to his old ways to protect his town -- and his family? Or will he lean into his reformed life and trust God will provide?
Blanton writes gritty, action-packed Western inspirational fiction (that's a mouthful!). Gritty, because that's the way life is - things aren't always wrapped up neatly, just like in real life. Action-packed, because the reader is pulled into the story and hangs on until it's final chapter. Western, because the author's hero is John Wayne and others. Because she writes about men and women (esp. women) who are made strong through adversity. Inspirational, because God can redeem even the most hardened heart, if they would make that choice. Fiction because that's what she writes best.
If you're looking for a sweet and fluffy read, this isn't it. But if you're looking for realistic characters who have struggles, both spiritual and otherwise, check out this author's work.

I LOVED this book!!! I've been waiting for this book!! I couldn't wait to see what would happen to Charles, Naomi, Two Spears, Hannah, Billy, and Little Billy!! I had to know if Hannah and Billy would marry, or if she'd leave him for nursing school. I had to find out if Emilio and Mollie got together. Now, I know!!! I found out all about characters from the previous books, met some new ones, and found out more about other existing characters. This was a great read!! Heather handled a delicate topic with grace and mercy, and used it to bring Hope to God, who can, and will, and did, forgive her mistakes. He used it to bring her to Him, as He can, and will, and did for us!! This book still leaves me wanting more, as any good book should!!! You can't go wrong with this one!! You do need to read the others first, though! These definitely need to be read in order!!

Defiance
The town full of corruption and the people who try desperately to save it. A female Dr afraid to admit her profession and the sisters who have hearts set on peace entertained and share the adventures that life tosses at them. Full of emotion and love and most importantly faith.

As always I love this series and it was awesome. Lots of action in this story. Does Charles turn against God or does he allow God to work in his life. Hope is introduced in this book as a highly skilled”nurse” but what secret is she keeping.?

I loved the first two in the series, but there was way too many characters and side stories that took away from the main plot. I love the story of Naomi and Charles and there is almost no interaction between them. I started skimming some of the side stories which seem like the same story over and over but just with different characters. It was really hard to connect with any character or see any relationships develop. The plot itself was just too much. It felt way over done.

WOW!! Romances and rivalries were simmering in Defiance… and this story has plenty of each! Rivalry, secrets, lies, family and revenge at the bottom of most of it. These characters show all their good sides and certainly try to hide their bad sides to make this a... what is coming up next! Loved it, couldn't put it down and I certainly hope there is another book soon!
