The disappearances of two girls within the span of a week thrusts a small Texas town into panic.
Detectives investigating the case are baffled by a note left at the scene of the latest kidnapping, promising more. Cautious neighborhoods are on lockdown as the search for the missing girls spreads far and wide. Miriam Sandoval, a former-detective, known for solving a high-profile kidnapping a year prior, is soon enlisted to lend her expertise. But solving the case won't be easy. Danger awaits with the discovery of every potential clue, and a madman is watching, confident in the outcome of his diabolical games. Can Miriam help rescue the girls before it's too late, or will they never be seen again?
An eleven-year old girl named April is kidnapped. The police are having no luck whatsoever in finding her. However, a note had been delivered to the police that states that the police should bring in Miriam Sandoval to assist them on the case.
Another girl is taken from a grocery store parking lot. The reader knows that Walter is the kidnapper of eleven-year old Natalie and we are introduced to Walter very early in the book.
Lieutenant Miriam Sandoval is a detective from Phoenix who has relocated after she captured a murderer/kidnapper called the Snatcher. It was a horrible experience during which her ex-husband was killed.
Letters have been delivered to the parents of April and Natalie. But Walter doesn't know anything about them.
When Miriam goes on a chase of her own, a man gets killed. Natalie is found, but April is not with her. Meanwhile, another girl goes missing. Miriam and the team realize that there are two kidnappers.
The identity of the “mastermind” kidnapper is not a surprise. The author gave it away early in the book. The novel seems to lose its way at about forty percent. It bgan to ramble and had unnecessary filler. I was very irritated that the lead protagonist, Miriam, ram off on her own more than once. She seemed rather self-centered and condescending to the local cops. I didn't care for her at all.
I have read the first book and now book 2 in this series. I have enjoyed the storyline in both books and will continue to read on. I do find the storyline interesting from the very beginning. I am, however, frustrated with the main character. She does not work well with others! So many times I am left wondering how things would have turned out had she not gone off half cocked to do it all by herself. Maybe, just maybe, the bad guy wouldn't have gotten away had she called in backup. I also have to questions how realistic it is that she never seems to get in trouble for how often she finds herself in these situations where she is alone, and the other person is now dead. I gave this book 4 stars, as the author also needs a better editor. Sentences were often jumbled, words left out, wrong words used, and wrong names given to characters. I feel this series has a lot to offer, or I might have given up already.
Kickass police detective hunting a murder and kidnapper who is hiding in plain sight.
This is an edge of your seat kidnapping/murder story that just keeps getting weirder by the minute. Is there a leak in the police force? Is the "unknown subject" actually a police officer? Why does this kidnapping dovetale so closely with one in the same area from 16 years ago that the known perpetrator was killer at the scene along with his hostage? Will the special police detective called in to hunt down this kidnapping suspect be able to do so before it gets too personal and she no longer has a family to go home to? Highly recommended.
I love that we get a recurring character. I hate that the character seems not to learn from her mistakes at all. This book had many times of going forward and back through time, many were unnecessary. It is an enjoyable read none the less. The author needs a better proofreader. There were a few missing words and spots that needed to be fixed from a grammar standpoint. Looking forward to the next book, hopefully Miriam has learned some things.
I'm not fond of stories that keep moving between past and present, especially when they appear out of order. The plot of this book is interesting, but the writing is only average, and it often dragged on. The characters were often dull, and the thought processes of the main subject frequently obscure. Based on this first book in a series, I won't be continuing with the rest.
Mariam is called back into the line of duty after 1 yr of trying to get her life back together in a different profession. This book is full of excitement as we are taken on this case with Mariam trying to help find yet another kidnapper who specifically asked for Mariam, was this his big mistake? Find out what happens in this new thriller. Roger did another exceptional job in writing this second book.
The concept was interesting and kept my attention throughout. However in places the writing can feel clunky and too rehearsed. The precise dialogue has a tendency to pull you out of the story at times and the time jumps towards the last third of the novel felt like a bit of a rush to tie all the pieces together. Overall it was a quick and inviting read, just needs some refinement to be great.
Riveting is a very good way to describe this book. Editing could have been better as towards the end there were a number of places where there were extra words that shouldn’t have been there, or were out of place. Overall I think this deserves a 5 star for the plot and entire storyline.
I had mixed feelings about this book. Good story,so so characters, it just seemed to go on forever. I was surprised to see it was written by a man, when so many scenes were talk and explained about women.
Miriam face another evil person that kidnapped a child. These kidnapping mystery books can only be describe as suspenseful as it gets. If you like a book with plenty of grit, and look really like Roger Hayden you must keep on reading.
I gave this book 4 stars because...the characters are interesting, the book keeps your attention and makes you want to read more. I was disappointed that I knew who the villain was halfway through the book! I would recommend!
A doctor and two mind controlled cohorts, kidnaps three little girls. A twisted mind leads police on a chase, controlled by the doctor while he kills his partners. Only a sharp mind of a outside consultant, thinking outside the box, solved the crimes.
Engrossing story, a couple of bloopers over the victim names and the sketchy cover of cell networks always plays such a big part in making bad decisions but all in all a readable tale with a good conclusion.
Found book over long, could easily have been cut down with some editing. Quite a lot of words missed out spoiling the sense of the text. Quite a weak ending after a big build up
Although overly repetitive at times, it was a suspenseful and intriguing story with believable characters. The primary female is strong, courageous and interesting. Overall great read.
Abduction of 3 little girls and their rescue encompasses the story. Fast paced at points and slow to the final page. A recommended read for those lining who done its.
This is a book I highly recommend anyone to read it. I found only one error of two different names but the same person. Overall I loved the mystery suspense of the storyline all the way to the end.
The one character once again tried to be the heroine. Now, I'm not saying book wasn't good but it was ok. Too many bad decisions back to back because the character thought they were a superhero. But its still an ok storyline .
The plot is good but needs better editing. It repeats itself a lot, giving information at the start of the chapter that you already know. The books quite long and would benefit from having some bits chopped out e.g. we don't need a description of the hotel.
The book was entertaining. My only criticism which was annoying is that several parts were duplicated and by very unnecessary. Think of that fir next book.
