Emma works in the kitchen of a university and is quite happy with her life. Unless people throw food at her. She also like beadwork and when she visits a market stall, looking for material, something is offered to her that will change her life.
Suddenly she finds herself wanted by the police - in a good way - but Emma isn't certain if this is what she wants, because her involvment includes midnight activities and gruesome encounters.
Luckily there are a few people around her who take care of her.
Follow Emma Nelson in her 'See-Through' adventures.
Premium story, but not plucky, curious stereo type
I've read a number of books focused on naturism/nudism to compare against. P.Z. Walker is consistently the best at representing the culture *correctly* while writing genuinely uplifting and fun stories.
This book seems to be more of a "how I got rapidly and supernaturally inducted into both naturism and police work" kind of story. It's not the typical "mystery" story with a curious female main character that it may seem on the cover. That said, now that she is willing in the role, I suspect later books in the series will come closer to that genre specific description. This book does not seem to be directed at children, as some of Walker's books seem to be, but unless parents wish to control their children's exposure to the subject of sex, they should not consider this restricted material. The subject is mentioned and sometimes implied in P.Z. Walker's writing, but in a most polite and inoffensive position, never detailed as part of a story. Even so, this is an adult main character with adult concerns, such as her work and potential relationships and not directed at kids specifically.
The premis is fine as is the writing but the plot is incoherent. In particular the final mystery the main character solves makes absolutly no sense. There is simply no imaginable motive for why the antagonists would be doing what is described. And the way they are doing it is equally nonsensical.
The big problem with this story is that local police would never be investigating a smuggling ring associated with an embassy. That would be the federal level. I also had an issue with the number of grammatical errors in this story. This writer has gotten better with his writing, I was surprised. I'm hoping for better as his stories are very good.
I am not big on what I would call sci-fi. I guess this was not, but having a nonhuman power seemed different. I found this book totally entertaining. Everything I expect from a naturist perspective.
Well written, with only slight over detailing, and nicely plotted. The opening really gives no clue to the real story and in this case, it works well Enjoy
Take a special ability and ask how the ability could be used to benefit mankind. Now, write an interesting story about that. That is what P.Z. Walker has done. I very much enjoy his gentle writing style.
Emma Nelson is a girl with a very special talent ... It started when Emma accepts a candy from a stranger who she meets in a craft market... When, while slightly drunk, she tells a friend about her new ability it attracts his interest, police interest ... in more ways than one!!
A Fun poolside read from a prolific pen of Paul Z Walker.
