After escaping Trinity, a terrorist organization, trained assassin CJ Grainger has insider knowledge about the group's plans, but she needs resources that Cole McCastlain, a member of Declan's Defenders, can provide. Yet they face a dilemma: they must either facilitate the deaths of government officials or become Trinity's next targets. CJ and Cole will make it out alive only if they can place their lives in each other's hands.
Award-winning author Elle James grew up as an air force military brat. She received her work ethic from her rock-solid father, her creative streak from her artistic mother and inspiration from her writing partner and sister, Delilah Devlin. As a former member of the army reserves and a current member of the air force reserves, she's traveled across the United States and to Germany, managed a full-time job, and raised three wonderful children. She and her husband have even tried their hands at ranching exotic birds (ostriches, emus and rheas) in the Texas hill country. Ask her, and she'll tell you what it's like to go toe-to-toe with an angry three-hundred-and-fifty-pound bird and live to tell about it!
Her adventures in the army and air force reserves, and the wild antics of her life on a small ranch in Texas give her fodder for mystery, suspense and humor in her writing. Elle writes gothic, paranormal mystery for the Harlequin Intrigue line and paranormal romantic comedy for Dorchester Publishing. A former manager of computer programming and project management professionals, Elle is happy she now has the opportunity to pursue her writing full time.
I love Elle James, but with this book, she is just filling in the blanks. It is the same plot as the previous five books, just change the names and tweak the plot and you have a new book. Nothing original and certainly nothing to get excited about.
CJ Granger walked away from Trinity and has been looking over her shoulder ever since. She make contact with Declan's Defenders and helped them rescue the vice president and Grace in the last book. Then she . . . disappeared. CJ feels bringing down Trinity is her mission, and only her mission. She doesn't want to involve, endanger anyone else, especially the hot off the charts Cole McCastlain. Well, that just isn't how Cole is made and he makes it his mission to assist and protect CJ.
This was a fantastic conclusion to the series. While each book can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading them all, in order, to get the full effect of the overarching storyline. Each book is a complete story involving one couple and solves their immediate problem, but there is also the continuing story of bringing down a domestic terror group. I was fully invested in the whole thing from the very beginning, as Elle James writes truly gripping tales.
CJ Grainger played a large part in the previous book, Tactical Force, as the unknown informant who warned the Defenders about sleeper agents in the White House and an impending attack. In this book, we learn more about her as she joins forces with the group to bring down Trinity. CJ was kidnapped as a child and trained as an assassin by Trinity. When she refused to carry out her last mission, she became the target. CJ has been on the run for a year, trying to stay alive while looking for Trinity's leader. Having concluded that she can't do it alone, she has joined forces with Declan's Defenders.
Cole is the team's computer guy. Charlie tasks him with protecting CJ after she revealed herself in the previous book. Cole is a bit frustrated because CJ resists his help, believing that she is better off on her own. I liked his patience, as he understood that CJ had to think he could be trusted before she would accept his help.
It didn't take too long for Trinity's hunters to close in on CJ, forcing her to accept Cole's help. Now that they are constantly in each other's company, the attraction that flared between them from the moment they met grows stronger. I loved the interactions between them, as Cole's protectiveness grows, and CJ hangs on to her independence. I enjoyed seeing that, though Cole is protective, he also respects CJ's capabilities and doesn't try to hold her back. CJ is just as protective of Cole, especially knowing what Trinity is capable of. When everything was all over, I loved Cole's support of CJ and what she wanted for her future. I ached for her as she had trouble believing that he could love someone who was a trained assassin. I loved it when he told her, "Your past doesn't dictate your future. But it helps to shape you into the woman you want to become."
The suspense of the story was fantastic as the team continued its quest to stop Trinity. The intensity increased as the team uncovered pieces of the puzzle and raced to put them together before Trinity could strike again. The scene in the woods was heart-wrenching and showed the depth of CJ's caring, to the point of risking her life. I was glued to the pages as the extent of Trinity's plan was revealed. The final confrontation was a nail-biter, and I was on the edge of my seat until it was over. There was an exciting twist to the conclusion that I didn't see coming but made perfect sense once it was revealed.
Though there was no epilogue, the final chapter provided the perfect wrap-up for both book and series. I loved seeing how CJ's life changed and how she put her past to work for her. There were a couple of surprise announcements from members of Declan's Defenders. There was also a letter from the president with an unexpected result of their efforts stopping Trinity. As much as I liked that surprise, and the men's reaction to it, my favorite was the one about Charlie herself.
CJ Grainger is a former assassin for the Trinity terrorist group (she left after essentially developing a conscience), and comes out of hiding to assist Declan's Defenders in bringing down the director of Trinity. Cole McCastlain is the one assigned to protect her. CJ has her eye on one particular member of the White House as possibly being involved. CJ and Cole work with the rest of Declan's Defenders to end Trinity's plans once and for all.
Elle James is one of the Intrigue writers who will typically pump out six books a year for the Intrigue line (along with Carol Ericson, Barb Han and Cindi Myers), and as such, tends to write the same book over and over again. Basically, a six-member team of SEALS going up against a vague terrorist threat. There's barely any plot here, despite it being the sixth book in a mini-series, and that's actually what saves it. The author just throws in plenty of action to keep the reader diverted from the fact not much is actually happening!
The relatively simple plot, despite mentions of previous books, made a bit easier to keep up with all the characters running around within the pages. Too many characters is a problem typical of all the books by Elle James that I've read. Instead of focusing on the hero and heroine, she includes too much interaction from the other heroes of the series. Since the heroes are all stoic, tough alpha marines, they're completely interchangeable, and you can barely tell the difference between the actual hero of the book you're reading and the heroes of the other books!
The lack of plot is also evidenced by the fact everything wraps up neatly with over 20 pages to go. I wasn't terribly invested in CJ and Cole's romance, so I didn't need that much wrap-up, especially when there's no black moment involved. And considering the why behind everything, the previous books don't seem to make much sense in retrospect.
But I did enjoy this one for it's quick pacing and simple effectiveness.
Secrets and lies are finally exposed! With the sixth book in her action packed Declan's Defenders series, Elle James brings us the conclusion of the series with DISRUPTIVE FORCE, and it does not disappoint!
C.J. Grainger brings a lot to this story line. She's a former trained assassin with the organization DeClan and his band of former Marines have vowed to take down for the part it played in John Halverson's death and the continued terror threat on US soil. She was kidnapped and trained to be a killer, but she has so much good in her heart. She's afraid of her own shadow right now, but something makes her know that Cole is the man to help when she needs it.
Cole McCastlain is familiar to anyone who has been reading along with this series and is a solid guy. It's clear to see from the beginning that he's drawn to C.J. and wants to help her stay hidden even when they need her to help them bring down the organization.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a fast paced thrill of a read with lots of action, lots of turmoil and a whole lot of heart. I have really enjoyed watching the guys fall in love and solve their mystery!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. The writing for all of the books has been great and Disruptive Force is no exception.
Elle James kept me on the edge of my seat, and dangled a few red herrings along the way, until the unanswered questions we've had throughout the series were resolved.
The books in this series can each be read as stand-alone stories but I really recommend reading the series in order so that you really get to know each of the characters who appear in all of the books. Each book focuses on the romance for one couple but the group that makes up Declan's Defenders appear in all of the books.
The terrorist organization know as Trinity is finally exposed thanks in part to the efforts of C.J. Grainger. She was stolen from foster care at a young age and forced to train to become an assassin for Trinity. She is now being hunted by them because she refused to carry out her last assignment.
Cole is one of Declan's Defenders and he wants to help C.J. but he has to get her to trust him first. She's getting tired of being on her own and the appeal of having someone to watch her back is getting harder and harder to resist.
Like most stories of this length, the romance happens quickly but I was very satisfied with how all of the mysteries surrounding Trinity were finally revealed and resolved. While there is technically no epilogue (one of my favorite things), Chapter Fourteen takes place some time after the main story has concluded and final tidbits about the Defenders are revealed.
Kudos to Elle James for a writing a very captivating series that held my attention from start to finish.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
I really enjoyed this story! It was great to get to know CJ better in this story and get more of her story. In this one we get to learn more about Trinity as they are tracking down who the leader is. I was highly entertained and engaged with this story. I loved getting to see some past characters within this book again. This is book 6 in the series and things are wrapped up well here. I would recommend reading previous books but do believe that you could pick up this book and enjoy it without too many issues. All the books deal with Trinity in the background, this one more in forefront, but each follow a different couple on their journey to finding love and solving the problem right in front of them. I loved the intrigue and action in this book. It was well done and pulled me in from beginning to end. I loved how things were wrapped up in this book. There was more than enough to hold my attention the whole time. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
CJ. Grainger is a former assassin for Trinity terrorist organization. After realizing what they have been doing, she escapes to find Cole McCastlain, an old friend who is a member of Declan's Defenders, an organization that flies under the govt. radar. They must work together to take Trinity and, it's Deep State criminals down! These two have a constant sizzle between them but, they have to set their priorities. Save the innocent and take down the guilty!!! Constant, driving story that keeps you up at night because you can't stop until it ends!!!
Trinity is corrupt group which has infiltrated the government. When CJ a on the run Trinity assassin, who wants out has life in danger. Cole a Declan defender is assigned to have her back. Kidnappings, death, a president in danger. Wraps up this series very well. Cj and Cole are destined to be together.. with clues from Charlie’s dead husband, Trinity is unraveled. Marriages, babies, military records expunged, happiness and a surprise with Charlie, brings this series to a well deserved conclusion. Well done.
This was such a great ending to this series. Cole has his assignment and it is CJ Grainger, a Trinity assassin who helped Declan's Defenders a couple of weeks ago. Also a woman who frustrates the heck out of Cole because she thinks she does not need their assistance. Of course CJ does not think she needs protection, but then has to rethink things and accept Cole's help along with the rest of the Defenders.
This is Cole and C.J.'s story. They are very strong, capable individuals, but even better together. They're both very likeable. The action grabs you on the first page and continues throughout. It kept my attention and I didn't want to put it down for anything. I recommend it to everyone that likes a good mystery, romance and action. The whole series is great!
CJ was used to working by herself. That’s what kept her alive. Cole needed to be able to protect her. Could they come to an agreement before Trinity found her? Strong loyal characters who complimented each other as they faced the many trials and tribulations. Fast paced suspense with romance intertwined to keep you reading late into the night. Another great Declan’s Defenders series book.
This book was filled with action. Finding CJ and keeping her safe was Cole's responsibility and he took it seriously. Hunting for the head of Trinity was what Declan's men and women did. This was as great an ending as was.the first book in this series.
This is a nice ending to a series that may hit a little too close to home. A shadowy organization, snatching children from foster care and training them as sleepers, in order to create an underground army to take over America from the inside. A mysterious member of the group has turned on them and is helping Declan's Defenders to uproot the sleepers. Cole, the last single man standing of the group is tasked with keeping CJ safe. Problem is, CJ doesn't need anyone to keep her safe. She is an assassin, pure and simple. She wants to end Trinity and Cole must follow her lead. This leads to a final confrontation when all the players are identified and the President is grateful. So grateful that he grants the one wish of the Force Recon team. However, there are multiple happy endings.
Cole McCastlain a Delcan Defenders has been put out to protect someone that was on Trinty a terrorist organization, a trained assassin her name is CJ Grainger. She thinks that is can protect herself and doesn't need Cole's protections. She lives close to Cole and walks by his home everyday and figures out how to get to his house if needs be. She is so careful that she on day needs that protection that she is found and she has to run to Cole to protector. They have to get from his house to the estate without getting hurt. They almost make it there when the vechicle Cole has is shot down and they have to run to save there lives. The jeep blows up and they are in the woods running for there lives. Finally they have been able to slow down and figure out to do next. They have a plan and Cole sends her away so she doesn't have to face the police and fire department. When he was clear with them he would come and find her and then Delcan came out to pick them up they thought it was safe but she knew it wasn't but listen to Cole and went anyways. On the way to the estate some called to tell them to have the gates open. CJ noticed Declan was bleeding and wrapped something around it to stop the bleed and told them to have the ambulance on the way that he had been hit. They took Declan to the hospital for the gun shot wound. When everything was calm down Cj and Cole took a minute to get something to eat and take a shower and change. Things changed quickly between these two and couldnt be separted. There mission was to stop Trinity once and for all with the help of Delcan and the Defenders. The Defenders had a plan and they were going to do this with CJ and Cole going to get the information they needed everything would be put into place and they would save the kids that would be in danger. The Defenders put a stop to all the men that got in the way. CJ and Cole stop the rest. This Disruptive Force is a book I recommed you read because it is that powerful in many ways. I can't give you anymore of Elle James book in this review because then it would spoil you from enjoying the book yourself as much as I did.
As President Trump has told us, Washington DC is a swamp, and as we have learned over the last few years the Deep State has conspired against the American people to overturn the last election. The leadership of the FBI, CIA, politicians and unelected bureaucrats want to run the government not for what is best for the country but to amass power and wealth for themselves, eliminating everyone who gets in their way. In this series the Deep State is Trinity, behind the murder of John Halverson, the attempted abduction of his widow Charlie and most likely behind the dishonorable discharge of Declan O'Neill and is men and the attempts on the woman, who have since become attached to those men. This book starts immediately following Tactical Force, in which CJ Grainger was introduced and Cole McCastlain was tasked with watching her back. A task made harder, when she is a virtual ghost. She had been kidnapped from foster care as a child and had been trained as an assassin, but had balked at shooting a pregnant woman, making her now a target for other Trinity assassins. She had survived with her wits and her Go bag, but when she warned Anne Bellamy about an attacked planned for the NSC, she got on the radar of Declan's Defenders and now they need each other, to find the Director of Trinity and eliminate him.
Action packed from the beginning to the end, this book is hard to put down. Yet there is time for romance and easy banter as all the previous characters work to take down Trinity. Unfortunately, what we have learn what the swamp dwellers have been doing, it is all too real. The only problem is the cover. One of the rules of gun safety is "Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot". The cover models both have their fingers on their triggers and they they do not even have a target.
I read an ARC as part of the author's review crew. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Book 6 in this fantastic series from Elle James sees us in the grip of Trinity, a secret organisation of assassin's hell event on taking over the White House. This book was full of action right from the start as we saw CJ all alone and away from Tri ity for a year fight for her life as she outsmarts their own assassin's. Declan's defenders come into her life to help her after she foils a plot to kidnap the VP and a staffer. This book had the intrigue and suspense I needed to keep my brain wanting more. With assassin's out to get her and other people's lives on the lines, will she be able to keep alive long enough to see the downfall of Trinity??????? Loved all of my favourite characters I have grown to love over all of these books.
This is the 6th book in the series. Cole is sent to protect CJ but she is so used to being on her own she doesn't trust . She was raised the Trinity {a terrorist organization} from the time she was little to kill. She leaves and they are out to kill her. This book has it all suspense, action and it's fast paced that will keep you reading. I've enjoyed this series and watching the guys fall in love and solve his case.
I am glad this was such a fast paced book. I spent the majority of it in suspense, holding my breath, and periodically reminding myself to breathe.
From the very beginning when CJ was alone and trying to evade Trinity to almost the very end, there was non - stop action and suspense. The mystery was finding out who exactly was in charge of Trinity.
After CJ hooked up with Cole and Declan's Defenders, the twists, turns, action and surprises were almost non stop. I didn't expect so much to be crammed into this one book. There were also a couple of steamy scenes between Cole and CJ.
The only thing that bothered me a little was how fast Cole and CJ came together. This is the first book I have read in this series, so there may be some backstory that I missed. I know they had met previously, but I wasn't clear on how much they were involved.
I enjoyed this book and will have to backtrack to see if the previous books are as good. I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
The suspense in this book was top-notch. This book has it all. It has its own self contained romance but yet it clears up some of the big mysteries from this whole series.
I really liked the character of Cole. Here is a man who sole purpose in to protect and the woman he is tasked with helping won't let him. I liked the push/pull he has with CJ in that he want to help her by protecting her but also having to realize that she is a strong woman who can take care of herself. I also liked that as he got to know CJ, he began to understand her and was able to stop her before she jumped the gun a few times.
CJ is a woman who has been on her own for far to long. She doesn't want or need to rely on others. I loved reading about this woman who was so sure her heart was cold, realize that its not and what her purpose is outside of Trinity.
The action in this book was amazing and kept you on the edge of your seat. I loved the big reveal and how it was handled. I especially liked how the book ended.
I hope this isn't the end to this series. Cole and CJ are great together, but CJ is afraid to get close to anyone because Trinity may come after them. She has been running from Trinity for a year and is very tired of running. Cole just wants to help her and love her. If she will let him. She is used to be independent and isn't sure she can accept help. Trinity trained her as a child, it is hard to let go of that training and let anyone help her. As they hunt down the leader of Trinity, Cole is sure that he wants a life with CJ. Will they be able to have that?
I highly enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down once I began reading it. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but now I need to go back to read their stories. This was an exciting conclusion to the series which lured you in from the opening paragraph and didn't release you until the last paragraph. I loved all of the characters and felt like I did get to know them even if this was my first book that I read in the series. Cole and CJ seemed great together. The only part for me that I felt was missing was their connection. From reading, CJ appears in the previous book. I don't know if Cole and she made a connection in that book or not, but it seems like Cole meets her and the next thing you know they are in bed and have deep feelings for each other. I just felt as though their relationship could have been developed a bit more before making that jump. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book, the action, the suspense, and the secondary characters as well.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I really loved this series. This was an excellent conclusion to the series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. With that being said, I think it would be better to read them in order. I personally loved every book. They were all packed with action that kept me on the edge of my seat, suspension and romance. Charlie Halverson hired Declan and his team to protect her after she was almost kidnapped. Her husband had been murdered a few months before. Declan and his team were kept busy throughout the series trying to bring down a terrorist cell that went by the name Trinity. Bringing down Trinity was intense. It had a few players that I never would have suspected. I loved the letter that Charlie received for Declan and his team mates at the end. I also loved her butler’s final announcement. Charlie had a huge heart, and it pulled at my heart to see her truly happy. This is a series worth reading.
I love this Declan's Defender's Series!!! It' s great writing, fun & sexy characters and a gripping plot. Does it have a few corny spots, sure...but that just adds to the fun of it. In Disruptive Force by Elle James we meet CJ, an ex-trained assassin for Trinity (the bad guys) and Cole, a former recon Marine. What a delicious combo:) She's on the run trying to survive and he's determined to save her and bring down Trinity once and for all. Not to be a spoiler, but I just want to say that I love that everyone gets their HEA, especially Charlie, our favorite benefactress. Again, a few sections made me chuckle-what bad guy really spills all the beans when captured? But overall, a book I stayed up to finish once I started. I received an ARC which I am glad to review.
Disruptive Force is another exciting romantic suspense by Elle James. Ms. James has once again delivered a well-written book populated with a stellar cast of characters. CJ escaped the Trinity organization when she drew a bullseye on her back by not killing a target. Cole is a member of Declan's Defenders and his mission is to protect CJ until Trinity is brought down. Cole and CJ's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved this story and look forward to my next book by Elle James. Disruptive Force is book 6 in the Declan's Defenders Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Book 6 of Declan’s Defenders is as awesome of a read as the previous books! This picks up on CJ’s story after stopping an attack on the west wing. The Defenders are still hunting Trinity to take down their leader and end their threat. CJ defected from Trinity and has been on the run for her life for over a year. The Defenders are tasked with her protection (Cole specifically) only CJ doesn’t trust easily and until circumstances force her she avoids everyone. CJ is strong, very independent, yet even with her brainwashing and teachings from Trinity she has a heart of gold and needs to make things right. Cole and CJ are perfect together. This series will keep you on the edge of your seat and swooning all at the same time!
Wow. I didn’t see any of this coming in Dale’s newest and I believe final book in the Declan’s Defenders series. This is Cole and CJ’s story without giving any Spoilers this was not what I was expecting. CJ takes a while to agree to working together with the team, she was trained by Trinity as we found out in the previous, so learning to be a team player takes her a while. I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next. And yes their is a HEA but you need to read the book. I was given an advanced copy of this book to review.
I loved the story of Cole and CJ. I really enjoyed the story line and how Cole always seemed to know when it was CJ. I started reading this and could not put it down wanting to see who the director was, it's not who I thought it would be. I don't want to give to much of the story line away, but let me say CJ is awsome in heart and soul and Cole couldn't have been a better partner for her. I loved how the story ended. Defenders series keeps you wanting more. Thank you for the opportunity to read this story. I hope to see more of them
5 stars I have received a free copy of the romantic suspense novel Disruptive Force:Declan’s Defenders Book #6: Cole and CJ by Elle James and this review was given freely. Suspenseful and action packed with a touch of violence, a hint of steamy romance and heartwarming ending. Trained assassin CJ Grainger's cover is blown forcing her to run with the man who was sworn to protect her, Cole McCastlain, and to team up with the rest of the Declan's Defender operatives to stop terrorist group Trinity's newest plot against the White House.
