I never read the original version on the book but this story left me speechless. The plot was really good. I have never read a book by Lakisha Johnson written in such a way. There were more charaters than usual but it was okay. I can't wait to read part 2 of this book because there was a major cliffhanger left of unanswered questions. Its a must read. One of my favorite authors did it with this book, she never lets you down.
A group og friends who all marital problems. But it begs the question does cheating solve anything. Every couple in this book had problems in their marriage I was surprised how easy it was for the women to cheat. Usually its the men. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Typos, grammatical errors, over-the-top storyline with ridiculous plot twists. Way too many characters to keep up with. Just a mess. Let me see what Book 2 is like lol smh
This was an entertaining story so much so that it took me just a day to read. But I have to say that there were quite a few characters to keep up with and it got confusing as to who was who even with the chapters letting you know whose POV it was. So it made it difficult for me to connect with the story. I hope this changes as I continue the series. I’m going to dive right into the next book. This is my first read by this author so I’m looking forward to reading more of her work.
Whew the drama in this book gave me LIFE lol I felt like I was watching a reality show . So many life lessons and so many thoughts to ponder . It’s something special about REAL friendships . Friends are rare these days, therefore I don’t take my friendships for granted .
I have this book 3 stars for the fast paced storyline. I think there were too many characters to keep up with. I was very disappointed that they all felt like victims, yet they all stepped out on their marriages. Shelby was my last day of hope and she she let me down. A couple of them were in the verge of being divorced, but still have it up before papers were even drawn. I believe that you are not single and cannot mingle until the ink is on divorce papers. I am going to read the next books in the series to get some type of closure.
This was entertaining, I can say that because of all the trifling-ness that was happening, but I can't rate this any higher than 2 stars because of the following:
🔹Poor editing. There was an abundance of commas in the wrong place. 🔹No character descriptions. With the amount of characters appearing, not a single person was described which made it hard to connect with anyone (or remember who was who and who they're married to). And literally every character sounded and acted the same with minor differences here and there. 🔹The characters constantly talking about how grown they are as if that's enough to excuse them from accountability.
This is a story about marriages and friendships where everyone is cheating. If that's a dealbreaker then this book isn't for you. One good thing I can say is that none of the women lifted a finger to fight for any of their ain't ish husbands. They pointed to the door and tossed up the deuces, but I can't say they (the wives) are prizes to win at the fair either. *shrugs* These are messy people getting themselves into messy situations. So if you like mess and drama this is right up your voyeuristic alley. Bone Apple Tea!
This work was quite confusing from the start. I really couldn't keep up with the females until the end. The stories for each were good. But all the women weren't descriptive enough for me to know who was who. I was very disappointed to get a physical description until the last chapter. Took 2 months to finish cause the interest wasnt kept. But that's my opinion others may think differently.
This book had so many characters. You have character introduction at the befinning and then the repetition of those introduction stories repeated in the book. I enjoyed following the women and their marriage woes, but it a little difficult keeping up with who's who at times. I pray Cam will be ok.
The idea of the story was about the various types of problem that couples faces in their relationship. But this story has way too much characters, making it really difficult to start developing any kind of emotions for a particular character. Felt like I was just reading the daily news.
Title: When the Vows Break Author: Lakisha Johnson Publisher: Twins Write 2 Series: Part I Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Four Review: "When the Vows Break" by Lakisha Johnson
My Opinion:
This was quite a real story that you had to keep up with to understand what was going on for six best friends truly...Camille, Shelby, Raylan, Chloe, Kerri, and Lynesha. I will also say that each of these characters had their significant other from Thomas, Brian, Justin, Chris, Michael, and Paul. The story will have a little bit of it all from 'homosexuality, adultery, careers, cheating, lies, secrets, deceit, drama, unfaithfulness, flirtation, fakery that one may not expect from so-called friends, but believe me. It can happen. What I wondered about as I was reading this novel how could this happen to these well-educated friends? Even some Christianity was brought in, but I am not sure it was enough to help in these ladies' situations.
Well, to find out, all that is left to say is that you will have to pick up "When the Vows Break" so see how this author will bring it all out; however, be ready to need to purchase part two to get the next part of the story. I will say you will have to stay with the story[I had to keep notes] because the connection is spread among all six of the characters with lots of twists and turns that will give the reader quite an interesting read to the end, leaving one wanting more.
I needed a scorecard to keep up with all of these characters but oh my they were worth it! So let's kick it off with Cam, the successful sex addicted attorney who has now turned to drugs to get her kicks! I believe that she has a good husband in Thomas but she can't get out of her own way to see it. Chloe is a magazine executive and is pregnant from her one night stand with Todd whose reaction to her news was not very promising. I do understand that it could be frustrating as well as frightening at the beginning but to just walk away; I'm not feeling that. Lynn who is the boutique owner who also slept with Cam is now on her own with a husband who has been involved in a 3-year relationship with another woman that bore him a son and the object of a crazy rapist that's come to her home. Ray is the strongest of them all in my opinion simply because she stuck with her husband for more than a year after knowing that he was sleeping with a man yet she still maintaining the home. Carrie is my favorite because she has a beautiful child and is living in her career regardless of what her insecure husband says and was strong enough to walk away from an affair with a bishop who was also a business partner. Shelby has my deepest sympathies because she has a husband on the breath of death and a child that she must rear alone. I can't wait to see what happens in book two.

Another Hot Mess at it’s Best! This book started off slow with the introduction of the main characters (six friends) and the status of their relationships with their spouses as they all prepare for a long overdue girls trip. Even though the women live in the same state, they never seem to have the time to hang out with each other and catch up. During the girls trip, they did just that. Caught up with what was really going on in each other’s lives and not what appeared to be going on. Much needed support was given during this trip. Once the trip was over, the author takes us back to what was happening in each of the their relationships and continued where it left off at the beginning. When it really starts getting good, it ends! What?? Oh yes, I forgot to mention, this is part 1 of a 3 part series. The way the book ended, you have to read part 2! LOL, go figure! This book has drama, adultery, suspense, heart break, substance abuse, and believe it or not, some uplifting and inspirational takeaways.
Ok so this book ended cliffhanger style. I decided to redo my review bc the original one felt a little harsh. There were a few things that I didn’t enjoy about this read 1. There were 6 main characters with no physical description (of appearance) this made it hard to keep up with who’s storyline was who’s. It also left me feeling uninterested in any of the characters. Everybody was cheating and being immature so the story was just messy. I do believe part 2&3 may give more info so that the characters can be better understood but as of now it all feels pointless. Also none of their personalities are distinct aside from Cam & Shelby 2. I’m confused on how this is supposed to be a Christian fiction when the main bit of spiritual info came from the mouth of a hypocrite. 3. I feel this also pushed the negative narrative about men in the pulpit, I disliked that portion the most.
There also was a lot of repetition, the intro chapters were repeated later in the story which caused it to be a bit annoying as a reader.
I want to know what happens but I’m not sure if I’m willing to push through two more books for my answers..
This was a drama filled story, these six ladies went through some things. When first starting the story I was like uh oh I am going to need to take some notes, I found myself having to go back an reread to make sure I did not mix up the characters and their spouses, this was a lot to keep up with but I made it through. This story kept you on your feet and guessing, there was a lot of wow and ah ha moments and I knew it. I cannot wait to read the next book to how everything unfolds and wraps up. These ladies definitely need Jesus.
Hmm...there were way too many characters to keep up with for me. These women had a good friendship and bond with each other that I enjoyed. Seeing a sisterhood and how they supported each other and kept it real with one another regardless how it may hurt to hear was refreshing.
Overall I liked how Ms Johnson unfolded some very real issues in marriages and friendships. I will continue the series as I really want to see how things come to a close especially for Camille.
Raylan, Chole, Shelby, Camille, Lyn, & Kerri.....All There Was Were Cheating, Cheating, And Cheating. It Wasn't All The Women Doing The Cheating, Because The Men Did Their Parts Too, Having Girlfriend/Baby momma, Having Terminal Illnesses, Sleeping With Ex-wives On Your Current Wife's Couch And In Her Home Not Their frfr Cuz She Had That House Before They Got Married...... continue Part 2!!!!!
Wow, this is my first time reading this author. I bought the series of three "Vows" books. I cannot wait to read the others. Keeping track of the six characters was difficult for most of this book. By the end almost familiar. This book related what happens when the boss are broken.
This was a very interesting story which only took me a day to read. However there were so many couples I had a hard keeping up with who was with who. Also at times I was like didn’t I just read that, did I start over? I’ve already downloaded the next book in series and looking forward to see what happens next.
I really enjoyed this book. It was my first and won't be my last. This book should have been called cheaters, cheating and catching feelings. I will say Can got everything she deserves. I will be reading part 2.
This one beats all!! I'm on edge and can't wait to read 2 & 3. May God continue to bless your ministry in writing because I will continue to read each and every one.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the way all the ladies were connected to each other. All their lives were very connected to each other. I loved it can’t wSit to see what happens with each of the ladies and their relationship with their husbands and each other.
Wow this is not the normal book that I read and man I love it. 4 friends all having issues but are still trying to be there for each other. But it’s always that 1 and Cam is out COLD with here stuff🤭🤥
A little too over the top convenient I know you want to express how things happen so easily in people get into situations but he must be believable although still a good read
Lots of turns and plot twists!! Everybody and they damn mama cheating. Only thing I wasn't a fan of it's too many damn characters to try and keep up with. Other than that really is a page turner.
Wow, can't wait to read the next book. These women have some real stuff too in on. This book kept me up until my ereader needed to be recharged. Well on to the next book. You go Lakisha!!!!
A very juicy read. This book had me on a rollercoaster. I was in all of my feelings and emotions. Literally had dropping........ Can't wait to begin part 2. I'll also pick up how it all began... I need to know lol!!!!!
Great Story... Each couple had something going on, this circle of friends.. the palm of my hand just slapped my forehead. I didn’t know if I was coming or going with they issues. Lol
