I was supposed to lay low after my first murder. I was supposed to let the heat die down so I could return to a normal life. Staying in Sugar Bayou with my family was the perfect way to do it. Nothing went the way it was supposed to though. I fell for the one girl I couldn’t have. Our ties ran too deep. They were too tangled. She was forbidden and loving her the way I did was sick. It was a sin. But I didn’t need cures or prayers. I needed her.
Danielle James is a wife and mother of two, who has written and published over twenty romance novels. Danielle’s work spans from sweet and romantic to dark and taboo. She prides herself on writing bold romance for bold readers. Her books are sexually charged with alpha female characters that leap off the pages. Each book sucks you into an entirely different world with steamy scenes, drama, and amazing plot twists along the way. Her goal is to hook you and keep you addicted so you'll come back for more.
Danielle James is one of those authors that I can never get enough of! Her writing is superb and poetic, her storytelling is out of this world, her plot twists are unique, and everything I’ve read by her is down right beautiful!
She never, ever disappoints!
Honey Sugar is every bit of sweet, sexy, forbidden, and everything I want when I’m reading something taboo! It’s absolute perfection!
James tells such a amazing and gripping story between two people who live their lives that are not so easy, and find love in the most unexpected and beautiful ways! It’s raw, emotional, gritty, so real, and down right forbidden!
“We were Ivy and Titan. Titan and Ivy. We were everything.”
I fell in love with Titan and Ivy! The connection they shared only intensified and I couldn’t help but love these two beautifully, broken people! The things they went through was gritty and so raw, I felt their vulnerability and I felt their strength! I loved how they leaned on one another, fiercely protected each other, and loved each other without bounds!
“Ivy and Titan. Forever intertwined. Like honey and sugar.”
This one took me a while to get in to. New Orleans, Louisiana, the South in general, not things I have an interest in and I usually stay away from books set there. But as I got into it, the story and these characters drew me in. I was feeling their pain. And completely believed in their love. I would almost wonder if what they had was more like a Stockholm Syndrome type thing, where they became so dependent on each other based on the shared tragedies. BUT for the sake of love and a good story, I will just enjoy it as it was written.
Taboo books are my all time favorite. I LIVE for forbidden stories and for some reason, family type taboo (especially step siblings) are up there in my favorites. K Webster started this sick love affair with The Wild and now I anticipate every single family taboo to be amazing and suck me right in. For some reason though, this one wasn't my favorite. I loved Danielles last book I read that was a family forbidden called Tortured Whispers about an uncle and neice. But this one, although I loved the story with the dad being a druggie, the mother being a scared woman, them owning a candy shop and etc.., that was very intriguing and I loved that but I didnt connect much with Titan and Ivy. I skimmed the last 30% becauze I had to know what happened with Mario but some parts dragged alittle for me. Regardless what I thought about the book, the story was very well written and I love the author so much I will still read everything she writes :-)
What a way to write a deliciously Taboo book. This is another blockbuster read.
Ms. James proves once again that she’s a consummate writer.
Honey Sugar broke my heart and healed it, making my reader’s heart appreciative as I was so engrossed with this salacious tale.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was sexy, refreshing and then it blows up into something that's too unique to explain.
Honey Sugar is a heart racing, toes curling, mouth gaping, nerves tingling, foot tapping, and mind blowing book. Not only was this book outstanding, it was emotionally draining but satisfactory nonetheless.
The evolving relationship between Ivy and Titan was well paced. The doubts and fears that this couple harbored was felt, and it was genuine. Titan and Ivy both experience a loss of a family member in a span of days. They leaned on each other to overcome this catastrophic state of affairs. And through the process, they became close, closer than they imagined they should be.
Honey Sugar is a story that tears your heart muscle through numerous steps. The heartache both characters finds themselves in was lucid and vividly descriptive.
As a reader, I love when an author gives a visual of the characters, the places they’ve been, the way they think, what they do for a living, and also the different scenarios that the character embarks in. Everything pertaining to making sugary treats and making legal cannabis was explained and this, again, adds some other layer of telling the tale.
As in all of her books, Ms. James prose puts your emotions in a peaceable state, her words just brings beauty to your soul and makes you precipitate into a state of Shangri-la. Her extraordinary writing lands you in the thick of a peaceful paradise.
Ms. James writings creep up on you, her words meld into your vein, she wheels a powerful messages in her books, so electric that you're left in awe. Her words have you along the edge of your seat for indefinite periods of time.
Ms. James must be commended, her superb writing puts you into a state of euphoria. She possesses an innate ability to draw you in each time you begin any of her books. And the way each story formulates itself shows how divinely creative she truly is.
I recognize that whenever Ms. James puts pen to paper, I will be treated to the very best, because she had always given it. Her work speaks for itself because her best is always generously written!
For those readers who are disturbed and tired of the heroine's being annoying, indecisive, and damsel in distress, well Ms. James has departed from that norm that’s perverted the books nowadays and created a heroine that doesn’t wait for a man to find her way.
I will continue to support this author, as I look forward to reading more and more of these astounding creations she produces so effortlessly.
I am so glad that I afforded her a chance as I haven’t been disappointed so far.
4.5 stars ⭐️ I loved the authors poetic and beautiful words so much!! Simply gorgeous writing! The main characters live difficult and sometimes gritty lives. It’s taboo and pushes some boundaries. I love that!! It’s told so well I was highlighting passages constantly. I loved all the grey areas the characters lived in! So very good!! I was thinking about this story long after I had finished reading it! LOVED!!
This book!! I absolutely loved it. Read it in one night, couldn’t stop, once I started I had to finished it. Danielle James knows how to write. The plot is great, love the characters. You can feel their pain, joy, sadness, all their emotions. Every book by this author is great. Every-time I think “wow, she can’t write anything better than this” she does! I fell in love with Ivy and Titan.
So I will just say this book wasn't my cup of tea but it's well written. I'm not into the incest type of romance stories but the Amazon reviewers didn't think it was so bad.... Let's just say if you don't mind a book about falling in love with your first cousin a problem than this is the one for you. I was completely grossed out when there was no big reveal of them not being related and just play cousins. It was still well written so I'm giving it four stars but read if your fine with cousin love.
The reason I love reading Danielle James is when you start a novel by her, you may not know where it will take you, she always offers a varying array of characters, situations, twists and surprises. However, you know that she always delivers a page turning, compelling read with characters that are both intriguing, desirably while also being scary AF. In Honey Sugar she delivers a freaking steaming romantic novel, steeped in danger and crime, dipped in taboo. And I loved every word.
Read this unapologetic love story - here's to hoping we get to see more.
I read this book because I absolutely love Danielle James and her writing style is one of the best ones I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I also knew it would be taboo going in, but I didn't know it would be an incest story and that is not my cup of tea at all! I really tried to just enjoy it like a regular love story but remembering that the mc's were related just kept throwing me off. After reading this, I now know stories which include blood relatives dating/fucking are not for me. If you enjoyed it though, that's okay, continue to like what you like--this is just my personal opinion!
The story was filled with lots of trauma, pain, and sadness but also filled with love, sweetness, and care. Titan and Ivy have a great relationship (taking out a sexual one, they do have a solid bond and a great friendship). I genuinely felt hurt for them losing both their mothers and I understand how something like that can bring two cousins closer together, especially when they already had a solid relationship in their youth. Ivy and Titan found solace in each other during a time that they were both broken. It doesn't make a relationship like that acceptable, but I get it. & Ivy and Titan got it too. but hey, they did said they had forbidden love lol.
i couldn't love Titan and Ivy the way i wanted to. i have no idea where the attraction was meant to come from. like just because they're attractive people? there was nothing in their personalities that made their supposed chemistry make sense. another gripe i have is that Uncle Beau was apparently a coke head... but coke is a stimulant. it keeps you awake, you aren't hungry. so why tf was mans doing cocaine lines before bed "to sleep." heroin is the drug of choice in louisiana and that's the drug that makes you slumped and tired after taking it. even ten mins of research would have told the author that. a candy shop in the middle of nowhere making 4k a day on average also sounds fake as hell. even with the unofficial moonshine business... like moonshine isn't illegal lol they could literally walk into a gas station to get that. the illegal part is not having a permit to sell distilled alcohol but even then, why tf are some townies going to buy that at a candy shop? alcohol is everywhere in louisiana and that's the last place anyone would go when they could just go to a drive thru and get a daiquiri ffs so i was confused about that whole piece as well.
overall the book was corny as hell and i DNF at 50% just didn't have the patience to go any further
Libro tabú de una relación entre primo/prima. Me encantó.
Crank up the a/c for this swelteringly hot love story! Hot, humid, sticky, sweet passion reigns supreme in the world of Ivy and Titan.
‘Honey Sugar’ takes a bit more time to catch fire than other books by Danielle James. That’s not to say that it is a slow burner. It just has a bit longer fuse before the rocket blasts off. Family issues and business dealings provide the perfect backdrop and subplots for the love story between Titan and Ivy.
‘Honey Sugar’ is another great read from one of the queens of taboo romance.
This is the second book I read by this author and while I did really like it, it didn't wow me as much as the first one did. A girl never forgets her first, right?
While this is still a dark and taboo'ish story, which is what I'm binging at the moment, it almost felt too smooth. Everything fell into place at just the right time, and there wasn't any big revelations. There was a lot of death and while it was sad, I never really felt the characters grief.
If you do enjoy taboo and dark romance, I'll still recommend this book. It's a solid plot and the writing is great!
This is author knows how to deliver taboo romance. No question. I felt the love between Ivy and Titan. Their love wasn't easy but it was there. Their love has the right amount sweet and the right amount of highs. I can't wait to dive in Bears story. I'm all about the mystery men.
One of my favorite quotes from the story:
We weren’t romance and sunshine. We weren’t perfect puzzle pieces . We weren’t beloved by everyone around us. We were Titan and Ivy. Like honey and sugar.
I was so surprised reading Honey sugar!. James made this taboo novel completely enthralling from start to finish. I wouldn't skip this book! I recommend tortured whispers as it too is also very taboo. I wonder how far James will go into the taboo world? Forgive me but I hope she goes deeper! The sex scenes were epic in this, I was like, omg that's crazy good!. Steamy hot. I need a ice pack. 😉
A dark taboo romance to be sure but something about the writing felt very beautiful. It wasn't pushing boundaries JUST to push them, it wove a story that actually dealt with morality and familial complications, heartache, and struggle OUTSIDE of the romantic aspects as well and I very much respected that.
Unpredictable but alluringly good. The bond created between the two went beyond what is considered taboo. The vulnerability that was shown by both towards one another was pure. This is my second book from Ms. James, but I’m a true fan now.
Beautiful story even with all the tragedies. I like how different this book was and so real. It sucked me right in. I guess there’s a reason for the saying “keep your friends close but your enemies closer”.
I was very nervous about whether I could take this book in and really give it a chance. But DJ brilliantly wove a tale that took me in and allowed me to let it flow. Really well done story and I’m glad I read it!
I’ve recently started reading this authors works and I must say I’m thoroughly impressed. I didn’t know how to feel at first but pressing on through the book I found the love no matter how others viewed it, it was true love none the less. Great story.
I kept waiting for the author to make them not cousins with a plot twist but she never did. Wow. I loved the characters. I was rooting for them. I definitely never read a book like this one before with such a taboo topic. The love scenes were fire fire 🔥🔥🔥.
Honestly… what a unique plot! The honey candy store, the other “businesses” and the constant wtf moments were fun! Obvi this is very taboo and it’s done well! 4/5⭐️ 3.5/5🌶🔥
Titan and Ivy were gold. I absolutely love how taboo this story was. What a wild ride! I loved how they struggled with the taboo part of their relationship but couldn’t stop! Soo good!
Lots of dark themes so was difficult to get through in places but an amazing read. Loved the dynamic with the couple but it did irk me that the fmc is only 17 for most of the book.
