All Grant Franklin wants to do is watch his Cubbies in peace. Too bad his irritating new seatmate at Wrigley makes that impossible. And he’s not sure what’s worse: her insistence on wearing Yankees gear to every game, or her complete indifference to his charms.
Sparring seatmates
Lily Castillo didn’t intend to become the New York-supporting thorn in her handsome neighbor’s side, but it’s just too much fun using her sharp tongue to get the unflappable Grant to flap. If only she could stop thinking about him once she leaves the ballpark.
Let the games begin
With one hundred plus home games in the season and seats that share an armrest, Lily and Grant have plenty of time to bicker, provoke, share family secrets, engage in a little sabotage… and maybe even fall in love.
This fast, fun read is a standalone story that will round the bases with baseball fans and non-baseball fans alike.
Sara Whitney writes sexy, sunny contemporary romance that's unforgettable and unputdownable. She worked as a journalist and film critic before she earned her Ph.D. and entered academia. She divides her time between professoring, authoring, and entertainment reporting, and she almost certainly has an opinion about your favorite TV show.
Sara lives in Illinois, where she's surrounded by books, cats, half-full coffee cups, and practically empty bags of Swedish Fish. Keep up with the latest by subscribing to Sara's mailing list at http://www.sarawhitney.com/subscribe
I’m marking this book as read 2x because I’m also going to review the novella “Bold Vibes Only” also written by Sara Whitney (it’s not on Goodreads)
Okay! So!
Game On Review:
This novella has:
✅ fun banter ✅ sports rivalry ✅ strangers to enemies to friends to lovers
Cute short and sweet! Loved the fun banter between the characters and the rivalry between their favorite sports teams!
Bold Vibes Only Review:
This novella has
✅ one night stand to relationship ✅ hot neighbor ✅ pregnancy scare
When I read the blurb about this novella - I gotta admit I was really puzzled how a one night stand, pregnancy scare and emergency contraception were gonna be cute or sexy. But I absolutely adored the hot neighbor chef. CAM 😍🧑🏻🍳 what a hottie AND a gentleman??? Excuse me. I vote more Cameron!
Excited to start the first book in the Cinnamon Roll Alpha series - Tempting Taste - review will be coming soon!
Grant and Lily have adjacent seats for Cubs games. Initially he is a bit hostile because she keeps wearing Yankees gear but over the course of the season they develop a friendship. This was a cute, sassy short read, about fifty pages.
An annoyance-to-love baseball short story that’s super cute and the right amount of funny. Definitely recommend. This cover totally doesn't fit the mood of the book though.
March 2025 - was trying to find a novella to read and suddenly this popped into my head and I had to read it again - seriously just as good as the last time, I’m actually bumping it up to 4.5/5 - such an amazing little novella. God I wish it were longer.
April 2024 - 4.25 stars rounded to 5. This was REALLY good for 60 pages, like not sure how it was done but I’m impressed - 36% omg this is GOOD so far. This is funny and I love Grant’s jealousy. - 69% holy shit he really put his foot in his mouth there - Okay this was great, but I wish they talked about it at the end and we got to see him do a proper apology and then talk it out. ✅ feels

I read it for the forced proximity, not the sports...
So I can't tell you anything about baseball, but I love forced proximity tropes and so having to sit next to each other for over a hundred games made my eyes light up. (In related news, I learned that baseball has over a hundred games a year, so it was an educational read!)
This short story was a delight from start to finish, with sizzling tension and crackling banter. It was a perfect quick but satisfying read, and I can't wait to read more by this author!
Cubbies' fan male lead character? Check. Wise-cracking, confident, Latina main character? Check. I'll even forgive her love of the Bronx Bombers, because she's so likeable.
This enemies-to-lovers/opposites attract novella is the perfect pick-me-up if you're having a rough day. Both Grant and Lily are endearing, fully-formed, independent, intelligent people, who are evenly matched. They challenge each other in surprising ways and their relationship grows over the course of the baseball season.
I highly recommend this steamy romp and hope Sara Whitney continues to explore and update their story.
There's plenty to like about this story; the concept was great. I'm familiar with Wrigley Field so that setting was fun and accurate. It's a unique way of writing a forced proximity trope. This seems to be one of the author's earlier works because her later stories are more polished. I gave it three stars because there were good things about it; it was just showing its age.
LOVED IT!!! Another great one from Sata Whitney. A great, light read that's perfect for anyone who loves arguing about sports (Like me) or someone who loves some good enemies to lovers romances. Highly recommend.
Only thing wrong with this story is I wanted more! Super cute sports story with great characters and a cute, romantic (but believable ending). Seriously I want more of these two! Can't wait to read more by this author.
legit forgot to review this after i finished … so disappointed to report that even for a novella this is a whole big cardboard cutout of a nothing. i wanted to read after actually going to a baseball game and this was not it!!
I loved the set up that Grant and Lily had season ticket seats right next to each other. We follow them through multiple games in the season and, though they fight it, they have chemistry from the very beginning.
This is a really quick read, but it doesn't feel rushed or like anything is missing from the story.
