I live in Clinton Oklahoma with my wife of 40 years and our cat. I attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford Oklahoma, majoring in Math with minors in Creative Writing and History.
My hobbies include watching soccer, reading, camping, and of course writing. I coached youth soccer for twelve years before moving on and becoming a high school soccer coach for thirteen more. I also enjoy playing with my five grandchildren. I have a very vivid imagination, which sometimes worries my friends. They never know what I am going to say or what I am going to do.
I am an avid reader and have a science fiction / fantasy collection of over two thousand paperbacks. The space program has always fascinated me and I've followed it since its inception. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an astronaut. Now, I just write about it.
I really cringe when I see one of these books on my reading list. I’ve been a long time reader of Raymond L. Weil books including the first of the "Slaver Wars series” which kind of started this whole thing. Oh, the stories are good and somewhat interesting, but he’s carried this story out so far that he’s now started to repeat things.
And speaking of repeating, Mr. Weil has an annoying habit of repeating just about everything he writes two or three times in his book. This book is, of course, about the Eternals against the Human, Originators and Altons fighting a war that will seemingly never end. The Eternals are a group of Originators who chose to augment their DNA far beyond what the founding Originators had intended. They separated from this original group, started a war, got beaten, but then broke out of their containment galaxy and now have grown so vast that it doesn’t appear anyone can stop them from dominating the universe. These Eternals are smarter than humans, more physically endowed than humans, longer live than normal humans and they seem to always need to remind themselves of these “superior” traits. I don’t know how many times I read, “We are the Eternals and are superior to all other races!”. That seem to be written in every conversation between any two or more Eternals. They probably say it to themselves over and over to just convince themselves that it’s true! I think once is enough.
Yet, this book is filled with repeated statements not only about the Eternals, but about the “Special Five” which includes Fleet Admiral Jeremy Armstrong, Kelsey, Kevin, Kate and Angela. All of them are married to each other or to some Marine in the case of Angela. They are all on an exploration mission going out farther than they have ever done to try and find some help against the Eternals. The explorations ships they have built have family units inside so they all could take their children along even though there is a possibility that the might encounter more hostile aliens.
And that’s kind of what happens in this book. Meanwhile, the Eternals have some up with a plan to solve their Human and Alton problem. They need to destroy the home worlds to the Humans and Altons and thereby eliminating those races from the war. Their supreme council proposes to send a huge fleet to Earth and New Tellus as well as the Altons home world and finish these places off. There, I just kind of repeated myself, as does Mr. Weil a whole lot. So, will the Humans and Altons survive and what’s going to happen to Jeremy if he finds another hostile alien civilization?
Well, remember when I said Mr. Weil likes to repeat his stories? It’s going to happen again. Try to get through this if you can. I’m not sure I’m going to go any further.
All good things come to an end, Please let this storyline die. Started skipping pages, then just gave up. How many rear admirals can you have to keep track of, how many of your own ships can get blown up ,and there is more written about puppy love. each books storyline keeps getting grander and larger to the point where you just don't care anymore. Two stars. Moved over to SADEs or Sorella's or Archangel's new adventure
Great wrap up of series! Looking forward to seeing the next generation of Strongsville leading the Federation and Originators!
The Eternals and the Originators are really going at each other in this one and the Strongs finally have a family reunion!
Although I will miss them for awhile with ending of this book and the series, It looks like in a future series:, what seems to have become the Strong family business, "The Special Five", is being passed from Jeremy's leadership to the next generation under Jason's leadership becoming "The Special Seven"!
Those darn Creevak's will be the bed bugs of the galaxies, creeping out of their universe from under a black hole or two, and into the Makuul Galaxy!
And the Hocklyns and AIs have joined up with the Borzon to start something up with the Federation!
Guess there's never a dull moment in a Raymond L. Well book! And I'm darned glad of it!!
I am thankful for comming across these books. I have greatly enjoyed the read. I am also grateful knowing all the stories are out their for the binge readers among us. I have a few issues with some small items in the books but they aren 't worth disscusion here.
Everyone who likes a good, fairly paced story beginning with a young earth just beginning to get it's space legs and that takes off from there; This is YOUR read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
An enjoyable series of books, with continuing characters who mature (or are killed) throughout the 6 books. The scale of the number of ships fighting throughout the universe is absolutely mindblowing, hard to get your head around. The Special 5, young intrepid humans who, by going into stasis, in order to protect the young Earth-based Federation of Worlds, find themselves thrust into the forefront of the battle to save the universe for truth, justice and the human way!
Thousands of transport vessels filled with steel rods is ridiculous. Please keep this more realistic. Also, the number of ships involved is a bit much. The Eternals came in with a million vessels and and fought for hours and still had eight hundred thousand ships left for the final battle. I was under the impression the blue energy spheres and missles had at least wiped out half their ships before the final battle. Did I miss something?
Again Mr Weil has provided a superb chapter in this brilliant series. Lots of opportunities to open new threads with the special 7 taking on the mantle from the special 5. Great characters and pace. Read this in one sitting as I couldn’t stop turning the pages
Raymond, thanks for an awesome series following the exploits of Jeremy Strong, his family, friends and fellow characters. I enjoyed this universe and the experiences and adventures you weaved throughout the story. I look forward to all your endeavors for spinoffs here and elsewhere in other galaxies far away. Thanks for a GoodRead.
I love the characters in this book. The ending was pretty good not the Best. Jeremy and his people had nothing to do in this book. I wish the internals had been beaten more decisively without the loss of so many originators humans and their allies. Is worth the read.
For a group of superior thinkers I find it incomprehensible that they wouldn’t be making use of AI controlled attack vessels. The acceptance of the waste of life for advanced races just seems backward. And why wouldn’t the humans and their mates come up with there own ram ships knowing that the enemy has done it before.
I have greatly enjoyed this series with the special five group of military leaders. This book continues the exploits of the group in the defense of the three race alliance. The reader will be on the edge of their seat with such an exciting conclusion.
More of the same great series, remains my favorite book series. Nicely wraps things up and leaves open possibility of some more stories in this universe, which I hope will happen.
Once a again a brilliant storyline to end a brilliant series of books and I feel I should start at the beginning and read them all again Hopefully short stories will appear and maybe an off shoot about the special 7 but we will, have to wait and see
Another fantastic series that kept me reading until I finished every book. Nothing but excitement at every turn. If you love space warfare you will love all of Raymond’s books. One of the best writers out there!!
This series has been great from the start. The characters really make the storyline work . The space battles are so well done that you can feel yourself there. Was a predictable ending but the good guys must win
I really enjoyed this book as well as all the other Lost Fleet novels. I started with Moon Wreck and just kept going. It was a great escape from reality and I got to like the characters.
Raymond Weil continues to write really enjoyable SciFi books and series! I just finished The Originator Wars series which concluded the the three series leading up to the Lost Fleet series. They were all good books with great characters, and really excellent plots.
