Cubs for Rent #1

First Loser

Rate this book
Same situation. Different man. It’s a beautiful mess.

After falling for a male escort, and losing him through his own stupidity, Henry meets Tanner. Tanner is tall, dark, and handsome. He’s young, wealthy, and doesn’t need Henry at all. But Henry is right back in the same boat he’s been in for years, paying someone half his age to spend time with him. Even though Tanner keeps refunding his money, Henry can’t let himself believe Tanner wants him for real. His mistrust is making him miserable, but Henry doesn’t know how to stop.

As one owner of Cubs for Rent—a company that rents men for dates, repairmen, or simply for company, Tanner doesn’t need anyone to take care of him. When he met Henry, Tanner’s only intention had been to get the man out of his friend’s hair. Then, Henry kept calling and booking time with Tanner. Tanner kept accepting and feelings he doesn’t want grew. Henry is sweet and insecure. He’s gentle and awkward. Henry is everything that Tanner finds irresistible. It’s too bad Henry is also too blind to see Tanner’s interest as real, because Tanner is tired of trying to convince him.

When Tanner pulls away and meets someone his age, Henry will have to come out of his shell and step up his game. Hopefully, he’s not too late.

Ok. I got distracted by the pretty cover and age gap and didn’t realise that I’d just promised myself to stop reading this author. *face palm*
I really liked these characters, their backstory, the age-gap, the cute texting where Tanner keeps refunding Henry’s money...but...I really don’t enjoy how much the author omits. The story is on speed. There’s a lot of telling. Drama happens but gets wrapped up in a neat little bow ASAP. Tanner’s harrowing past is hardly even touched. It’s frustrating when you really like the bones of a story but can’t actually enjoy it. This author creates interesting characters but the stories just pay them lip service. They never go beyond the surface of what’s happening to deliver, what could be, an epic romance. It’s all just “ok”. And while there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, I’m just after a bit more depth. Quality over quantity every time!!!

The first book in this series and it set the stage pretty well. It felt a little awkward at the beginning, stuffing as much detail and backstory as possible and then at the first sign of a problem Tanner ran to another man, or rather, made himself available to one. That raised my hackles and I couldn't enjoy the book as much after that. Thank goodness his heart was in the right place. Henry had his own issues, not believing Tanner really wanted him created so much tension but the overflowing love at the end felt absolutely wonderful.

This was a sweet story, but it seemed rushed. I liked both Henry and Tanner and wished I was told a little more about their background. Still I would recommend it for a quick low angst read.

2.5 This is one of those books with a great premise that falls flat because of the length. Tanner's backstory needed way more - people know his father's name for being crazy but there is more and we don't get that. Even as Toby explains their history to Henry, the reader isn't privy to that story. The relationship is very rushed and there really isn't anything to show Tanner only accepts for his friend's sake. There was such a great foundation here but not enough to flesh it out.

Everything was so fast I'm oftentimes confused while reading. There were bits of information that weren't elaborated enough, making me think if this is a standalone book or not? Also, the age gap was soooooo huge I didn't expect it to be like that. (I'm just not a fan of huge age gap, I'm so sorry)

Anyway, book is just short so I think it's the reason why it's kinda fast-paced. One thing I like about this book is Tanner's personality. Once he set his eyes on Henry, he knew he's it. And Henry changing for the better because of Tanner.

BTW the scenes with Orion is really intriguing. So I'd definitely read the rest of the books in this series!

NOTE:
Toby - oldest
Tucker - middle
Tanner - youngest

There is just something...

...about a book by this author. Each and every one has its own vibe, it's own energy, and each and every one hauls me along for the ride and leaves me with a smile. Unfortunately I'm bad about leaving reviews. I`ve know this about myself as a reader and have no justifiable excuse. Tonight though I caught myself smiling after the last page and excited for the next book. A good moment to decide to be better at leaving reviews. Charity, thank you for all the vibes, energy and smiles!

So good

First book in the spin off series and it doesn't disappoint. Tanner was only meant to distract Henry. Fate had other plans. These two have darkened past. However learning to overcome them is the true test. These two were made for each other. Such a good book with wonderful characters. Gray is on of my faves. I like the spunkiness of Tucker and Toby.

I love these bite-sized books and I think I might be addicted.

Henry and Tanner's story was adorable, not much angsty despite their horrible pasts and I absolutely loved it.

Can't wait for Tucker and Orion's story!

“They had been meant to meet. Fated long before they knew each other existed.”

Welcome to Cubs for Rent—a company that specializes in rental of men for dates (but no sex for money), household repairs or simply companionship. Tanner Kodiak is one of the three brothers (triplets) that is co-owner as well as available for “rent”. When Tanner swoops in to rescue a friend from a persistent client, Tanner gets more than he ever imagined. Because “sometimes the company of one person who understood was all anyone needed.”

Henry Krill is a multi-billionaire who has been hurt so bad in the past that he has no idea how to express his feelings beyond using his wealth to get what he wants. When he meets Tanner, he’s awestruck at how this young man makes him feel alive again. Not wanting to mess up his opportunity at happiness, Henry offers Tanner the world…it’s too bad that Henry doesn’t realize until it’s too late that all Tanner wants is him.

Henry and Tanner must work beyond the past that broke them in order to reach for a future that will save them…

Charity Parkerson has begun her Cubs for Rent series with hints of a dark past for the Kodiak brothers that will most likely be expanded upon in further installments. Highly recommend and can’t wait for the next in the series!

Not a Favorite

I’m a huge fan of Charity’s books, but this one was definitely not one of my favorites.

Tanner’s character seemed off. Sometimes he felt immature and I always felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. He’s got this really sad backstory, that we only catch a glimpse of and I’m sure more will come out as I read the other two brothers stories, but I’m used to more heartbreaking details of the characters pasts. Especially from this author. She’s so good at drawing us into each character with the history of their dramatically pasts. I don’t think she gave me enough of Tanner’s past to really feel for him and fall in love with him.

I thought his book was lacking the emotion the author was writing. For example, the bedroom scenes, you’re reading how much they love each other and how hot they are for each other but then nothing, the scene was over short and sweet. I prefer more details. I think it draws more compassion to the characters and helps make their love for each other more believable.

I feel sad giving this book only three stars when all Charity’s books have been 5 star quality for me. I hope I feel the connection with the other brothers I was missing from Tanner.

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

An Awesome Read!!

I loved reading First Loser(Cubs for Rent Book 1). All about Tanner Kodiak who is twenty-five part owns Cubs for Rent with his two brothers Toby & Tucker they are triplets and Henry Krill who is fifty-two a very wealthy billionaire who uses their service business a lot. The triplets own a business called Cubs For Rent it’s a company that employs guys of all ages that will do things with you. Such as go to a sporting event, play golf with you, go to the movies with you all for a small fee. The author wrote a book about a man in his mid fifties who is uber rich and very lonely. He wants to find somebody who will love him for himself, not what he can do for you! Read about Tanner & Henry and see if they can get out of each other’s way for them to finally realize they are good together and that life sometimes throws you a life-line and you need to reach out and grab it, with both hands!! I really enjoyed reading about Tanner & Henry and meeting his brothers. I can’t wait to read book 2!!!

Aww

Okay this one made me tear up a little. Two men who have trouble communicating almost missed out on the best thing that could have ever happened to them. I absolutely loved this story and taught you everything happens for a reason.

I love Charity Parkerson books they are also sweet, have drama and steamy as I don't know what. I knew this book would good just from the description but it was so much better reading it. I love how Tanner and Henry just connect without all the drama or worrying about all the things that make them different. I love that Tanner is this Alpha male that wants to take care of Henry no matter that Henry is older than him or has more money than him. Henry is so sweet and honest even though he scared Tanner will reject him. I love that this book didn't have the usual arc of getting together, being happy, drama, they split and then one makes a grand gesture, they live happily ever after. The book has a great and natural flow that I always love when reading Charity's books.

I enjoyed this short story although there were some abrupt transitions from chapter to chapter, like now they are in the house about to have sex and the next second they are in a plane🤷🏻‍♀️. Although interesting their back story wasn t developed enough, you just get some crumbs here and there. That said I want to see the rest of the brothers find love.
