The Doctor's Christmas Proposal

Rate this book
Betrayed by his ex-fiancée, Dr. Wyatt Gallagher turns to the one woman he can always trust – his best friend, Mia Watson. After moving away, Wyatt has realized he wants more than friendship with the beautiful artist. With that in mind, he convinces Mia to come to Marietta for the Christmas holidays. But wooing Mia is surprisingly difficult — especially given the passionate night they’ve already shared.

Though Mia Watson has loved Wyatt Gallagher for years, he's always seen her as a friend, never a lover. Except for one unforgettable interlude when comfort turned to passion. Then Wyatt moved back to Montana, leaving Mia with an unexpected consequence of their night together--and soon, heartbreak to follow.

Faced with the fulfillment of her dreams, Mia knows she must reveal the consequences of their night together to Wyatt. But having withheld the truth for so long, will her confession destroy his trust in her, ending their friendship and any hope of a future together?

The Doctor's Christmas Proposal was a good read. I enjoy the friends to lovers trope when done right. It isn't that this one was done wrong or anything. I just didn't really feel the friendship between Wyatt and Mia. They haven't even talked in a long while when the books starts. They are suppose to be best friends for years but he didn't even know that her parents are dead. So it didn't feel like friends to lovers it felt like a love story between people of acquaintance. The story was still sweet and enjoyable just not what I expected. Mia was okay for me, but I didn't like that she hid things from Wyatt for so long. Although in a way I could understand why she did. Wyatt was likable and charming. Overall it was a cute, easygoing, quick read with a little holiday fun thrown in. I liked the ending and I do plan on reading Dylan's book when it comes out.

Dr. Wyatt Gallagher returned to his hometown of Marietta, Montana after he was betrayed by his ex-fiancee. However Wyatt had left his best friend behind in Denver, Mia Watson, and now after time to think Wyatt wants nothing more than to have Mia back in his life so with the excuse of one of his brother's upcoming wedding and the other brother having a child on the way Wyatt invites Mia to Marietta.

Mia had been in love with Wyatt for years but had never pushed for anything more than friendship from him. One night after his breakup though things had gone farther than they ever had and the two spent the night together but Wyatt had never acknowledged that night and moved back home before even talking to Mia about it. Now that her heart has starting healing Mia isn't sure she want to be pulled back into Wyatt's life and that would mean sharing the secret she's kept since he left.

The Doctor's Christmas Proposal is the third book in the Gallagher's of Montana series set in the lovely small town of Marietta, Montana during the Christmas holiday season. Each of these books feature different couples so they can be read as standalones but there's always mentions of previous characters and events in Marietta, Montana books.

What I enjoyed with this story was that the characters had an established relationship in their past so with a short read it didn't feel rushed into romance between what could be two strangers. However, with that history came things between them that really needed to be discussed and of course gets put off so that is rather frustrating. It got to the point though with this one that it got a bit repetitive bringing up the past as if to drill into it there is going to be a big confrontation, a bit of a turn off for me.

Overall though I still enjoy any look into the characters and the lovely small town of Marietta, Montana and all of it's holiday charm.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

~hero who wasn't trusting because he'd been lied to
~weak heroine who even though she knew he'd been lied to before, continued to keep secrets from hero
~story dragged at times
~no cheating
~OM drama - none
~OW drama -
~heroine tries to keep hero at arms length because she feels like a rebound and she has kept her pregnancy a secret
~No epilogue - very disappointing. There was a set up for Dylan's story as the last chapter.

I wasn't going to rate this since I think its kinder not to rate something you don't like then to give it 1* but I was soooo annoyed by the end I needed to vent. The whole lie that wasn't a lie but was a lie by omission was rammed down our throat just so that there would be a conflict at the end. Common sense and mature people would easily work through this issue. More of an issue is in the H just leaving the h high and dry after their ONS, which was easily dealt with. And just to make it interesting, throw in the whole fertility thing right at the end. Yet it was only so many words because hey presto that was solved as well.
It was a story by connect the dots and not well done at that. This would have been a DNF except I couldn't bring myself to do that since it would have been 2 in a row. My OCD rules.

I enjoyed this installment of The Gallaghers of Montana series. Wyatt is a doctor in Montana in love with his best friend Mia from Denver. He gets her to visit him at the holidays, and they have a second chance at love. Fun story, good characters.

This is the third novel in this Marietta, Montana series. After the dramatic breakdown of his relationship with his fiancé, Dr Wyatt Gallagher’s immediate reaction was to seek out his best friend, Mia Watson. He’s unaware that she’s been in love with him for years but he finds consolation in her arms. However, he then returns back to his home town and rarely contacts her, even though he’s really missing her and has vivid memories of their night together. Months later, he invites her to spend the festive holiday with him and his family, claiming he needs her support whilst one of his brothers gets married and another expects to become a father. She is reluctant to agree but can’t resist. Once she arrives, their heart warming tale makes this a delightful festive read.

This is an enjoyable addition to this year’s Marietta reads. It contains characters who star in other stories by other authors and many of the same events. The lead characters are emotively portrayed, making it easy to empathise with them and keeping you hoping things will work out for them in the end. There are some surprises and unexpected twists to keep you guessing and I have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone who enjoys cuddling up with a cosy festive romance set in this delightful community.

I requested and received an ARC of this novella NetGalley. This is my honest review.

An Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book was received free via Netgalley for an honest review.

What to say about a book that's just "ok"? It's not bad enough to be "meh" and not good enough to say "I like it". And it's all Wyatt's fault too! Wait, what? How is it all Wyatt's fault? He's the one who got betrayed. He's the one who's hurting.

But that's just it, I've seen Wyatt. He's been in other books. Either Wyatt is the best actor ever or he's not hurting. And yes, of course, he's pretty much over the whole thing but he's NOT HURTING. If you are going to do this you can't have a perfectly fine, even happy, Wyatt in previous books. He can't be fine one minute and recovering from unimaginable pain the next. And because I couldn't buy Wyatt and his issues, well, the whole book was thrown off.

If this had been just a friends to lovers story, I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more. Ah well, at least I'm really hoping for a good story for Glenna and Dylan.

No thanks. He spends years as her friend, they date other people, she sleeps with him when he is upset by a girlfriend’s betrayal. Then he leaves! For another state. Like it meant nothing. Doesn’t call her more than twice in over a year, then asks her to come visit for Christmas.
She is the doormat and masochist that says yes. He is an oblivious douche and I don’t understand why she felt guilty about not telling him he’d gotten her pregnant and she’d miscarried at 14 weeks, when he’d buggered off and ghosted her for months after they’d had sex.
What’s worse, he’s so : she’s so nice, and: I always liked her. Where’s the passion? Where’s the emotion? Lukewarm, at best.
His self-satisfied confidence that he could win her over was annoying.
Oh, and he did bronco riding shit at rodeos when he was younger. Like that’s not stupid pseudo-cowboy animal cruelty right there. This guy’s an orthopaedic surgeon???
Fuck him and the poor bronco horse (with all the spur wounds) he rode in on.
I couldn’t keep reading, it was just dumb and they both pissed me off.

This book was quick and fun (I loved most of the characters!), but I had some major issues with Mia's character and the writing.

This was supposed to be a friendship to relationship novel, but I never felt like Mia and Wyatt knew each other well, even though they'd been "best friends for years." What kind of best friend doesn't know the other's parents have passed away?

Mia frustrated me throughout the whole novel. I felt it very hypocritical for her to "be there" for Wyatt while he has trust issues, yet is lying to him the entire time.

The most irritating part of all was the repetitive endings to the chapters. WE GET IT. THERE'S A LIE OF OMISSION. It felt like every chapter was supposed to end with a "gasp!" moment, but we'd already heard the same facts 23239593 times.

The more I think about it, the more irritated I am with this novel.

3.5 stars, 2.5 heat

The Doctor's Christmas Proposal was so darn cute!

The Gist: Best friends. Totally in love with each other. Totally scared to tell the other. Christmas. And things finally happening! Woo!

Wyatt and Mia were too cute. She's an artist, he's a doctor. They've been best friends for ever and are just so adorable in how they are with each other. Can give each other a little hell but still there for one another even if they've had a rocky moment or two. I liked them as people and as friends and loved watching them both dance around the fact they were madly in love but nervous as all get out over it. They just made me smile as she spent time with him over Christmas and with his family. Doing all the Christmasy things together and town events, weddings and a baby being born. His family is great, too.

Why this didn't get a 4 star was because of the conflict. Sorry, but it was stupid. There was no reason for it to be an issue like it was made out to be or such a big blow up either. From the very beginning I felt that way

Despite the eye roll worthy "issue" I really did enjoy this story. It kept me smiling and rooting them on and I loved his family, too. I'd totally read more of them.

Another Christmas Romance I found while browsing on Amazon.

The plot is promising and good but I think the characters fell flat. I really hope they were more developed. And though everything in the end went well, both Mia and Wyatt ended up doing the right thing, they still seem underdeveloped. Maybe because even from the start I know they'd do what they did.

The Romance was sweet. Not extravagant but is enough for a cozy read this season.

I do love this fictional town, Marietta, in Montana. It looks like a place I'd want to go for a vacaion in Christmas. Mia is so lucky to be invited there. :)

I am making my way through my Kindle bookshelf. I have a ton of downloaded books that I dont even remember getting.
This book is dumb. I didnt like it at all. I love reading a comfortable sweet romance and I read them all the time. This is not the good type of romance. It is a badly written, stupid romance. I feel bad about being honest because I would not want to hurt the author's feelings but I also feel worse for me and other readers that spend money for this sophomoric novel. I'm sorry Eve Gaddy. I am sure your other novels are great.

3.5 stars rounded up.

I was feeling 4 full stars until the last 30% or so. I was getting tired of the heroine's repeated inner thoughts. She constantly thought she had to save up the memories for when she would finally tell Wyatt the truth because then he would hate her. I get that she felt that way... I did NOT need to reread those thoughts so often. There were 2-3 issues that were agonized over and they both were "fixed" in a matter of a page so it seemed all that angst with such a quick resolution was a total waste.

Overall it was a pretty good read. Nice descriptions of Marietta, Montana, family celebrations and Christmas activities.

This book was ehhhhh...

Both main characters annoyed the heck out of me. Wyatt was stupid to get so mad at Mia. Mia was selfish for not telling Wyatt. The plot development and character development was lacking.

Didn't expect much more for such a short book that was a standalone book.

Not a must read but if you're looking for a shorter read it would be worth it.

The Doctor's Christmas Proposal

Wyatt was great, little dense at times. I guess men don't always think things through. Mia loved Wyatt but was content with being his best friend until one night. Then not long after he moved away and didn't keep in touch. What's a women to think?
Sweet holiday love story.

...

Here are some thoughts on “The Doctor’s Christmas Proposal” by Eve Gaddy. There are spoilers in this review, so don’t say I didn’t tell you!

Mia and Wyatt are platonic best friends who shared one night of passion. Said one night, however, resulted in an unexpected pregnancy, then miscarriage. Mia never gets around to telling Wyatt about it because, among other reasons, Wyatt moves away shortly after their one night stand. A few months later, Wyatt decides that he really misses Mia and invites her to spend a few weeks with him. Mia thinks that this is an extended booty call, so she agrees and packs up to visit him (because what self respecting woman wouldn’t be willing to be at the beck and call of a man who probably doesn’t want to be in a relationship? I’m being sarcastic here).

Mia tells us she’s in love with him, but even though he’s obviously trying hard to romance her, she doesn’t believe they can have a real relationship because she didn’t tell him about her pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage. This line of thought appears and reappears every couple of pages, and is basically what keeps these two lovebirds apart. You know that birth control commercial on TV where the woman makes an ugly face every time she can’t remember whether or not she took her pill? That’s basically what I pictured every time Mia loses herself in one of her nonsensical “he won’t love me because he moved away and stopped calling me so I didn’t tell him I was pregnant” train wrecks of thought that take up about 80% of this book.

And it’s a shame, too, because the writing wasn’t bad and the two had good chemistry. Who doesn’t love a friends to lovers story? Unfortunately, the affection is mired by issues that are easily resolvable by relatively intelligent adults. The fact that Mia can’t think her way out of this is silly.

But to my shock, Mia is spot on with Wyatt’s reaction. When she FINALLY spills, he doesn’t say, “ohmigosh, I can’t believe I was such a jerk for sleeping with you then leaving town then not calling you for months. And I feel just awful about not being there for you when you lost the baby.” Nope. He just gets all confused and stomps away to mope by himself with a bottle of Jack Daniels. For someone who’s supposed to be a orthopedic doctor, this guy is really dense. And selfish. And horny as a teenager.

Wyatt finally comes to his senses at the end, but the circuitous way that he went about it was off putting.

The chemistry between Mia and Wyatt was good, but not enough for me to overlook Wyatt’s shortcomings. 3 stars because the writing wasn’t bad, and the story itself wasn’t horrible. Just didn’t fall in love with the hero.

I really wanted to like Mia and Wyatt's story, I liked that Wyatt was the one doing the pursuing, but it fell flat because Mia was way too preoccupied with her "lie" and it was hard to enjoy anything when she was constantly thinking how he was going to hate her once he found out

she finally spits it out at 79% - I wasn't sure if I was going to make it that far into the book and after his horrible reaction, I just skimmed the rest of it

the last chapter is a preview of the next book

You never quite know what you're getting when you click that button and scoop up a free book. It could be your next greatest read, or it could fall flat, or maybe even somewhere in the middle.
With the holidays in full swing, and my need to at least read one or two holiday-themed stories around that time, seeing this one as a freebie, I jumped right in.
Chrismas love stories, no matter how cliche I'm sure they are in the real world, are incredibly adorable to me so it seemed a no-brainer.
This is one of those reads I alluded to at the top that falls in the middle for me, though.
I did enjoy the story, and the band of brothers and their partners throughout, along with the town they live in and the author's way of describing it so visually. I was completely hooked with all of that, which kept the pages turning. I even enjoyed the thought of two friends falling in love. I am a sucker of course for friends to lovers as much as I am second chance romances after all. So on those fronts, this book was splendid.
Sadly, where it fell flat was the two main characters themselves. We're told that they were very close friends, the best of friends when they lived together in Denver, but I didn't feel that vibe as much as I wanted to throughout the telling of the story and the couple eventually coming together to be together.
Could I believe in these two as a couple, sure, but not the friends to lovers way.
I also found myself having issues with the way a couple of the main dramatic issues of the story was handled, especially when it all eventually did come to a head closer to the end of the book. What seemed to be the main issue of the story for way more than half, it was wrapped up a little too neatly at the end. And while that isn't something unheard of in any book in this particular genre, it could have all been fixed so much faster sooner if she had just spoken up sooner.
Did it all come together the way I would expect a book of this nature to do? and was I happy with the end result? Absolutely. I just longed for more here.
It's definitely a faster paced, lower steamed and limited on the heaviness read though, so I got what I needed and would read this author again for sure.

Some people love to sit in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate (or a glass of wine?), and watch cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies. Me? I like to lay on the floor in front of the fireplace with a Diet Coke nearby and read sappy Christmas books. Unfortunately a lot of them disappoint me, but The Doctor's Christmas Proposal was sweet and readable.

Was the lie between the characters overblown and ridiculous? Yes. Was way too much emphasis put on what she did wrong, while the inexcusable way he behaved was largely ignored? Yes. But at least the characters acted like adults once they started talking about things.

The best part of this book was the great Christmas atmosphere. I want to go to Marietta, Montana (alas, it's a fictional place) and attend Christmas strolls and Christmas balls and go Christmas tree shopping! This book put me in a fun festive mood!

I actually really liked the story, but to say the truth it was like a bit too melodramatic for me. Mia and Wyatt have been friends for years. Dr. Wyatt Gallagher spent one glorious night with his best friend, Mia Watson. After this he moved away from Mia. she ends up pregnant she doesn't want him to think she's trapping him into a proposal. out of the blue, he's calling again and telling her he needs her and like an idiot, she rushes to his aid. When he wants a relationship with her she has no choice but to refuse. Not only had she lied and kept secrets but the biggest secret of all is her inability to have kids at all. A light read not much to expect.

Hamfisted doctor

Mia is so forgiving, especially considering her background. Though when it comes to Wyatt she seems care mostly, for what's in his best interest. Wyatt maybe a stand-up guy but the way he treats the women, especially the one he supposedly cares about is pretty shabby.

4.75 stars

Major plot spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

This one was so, so close to a perfection that I had to give it a 4.75 rating because it was that close to a 5 star read for me. It more than I was expecting, but it was a lot of what I was wanting featuring some of my favorite romance tropes. This was a great friends to lovers. This had unrequited love trope that I absolutely love. It had great family aspect that I have come to enjoy with this one very much reminding me of Maisey Yates’s cowboy series that I love and adore and are some of favorite stories of all time. It had some really great angsty moments that had me clinging to the pages as I went on this love journey with Wyatt and Mia to their happily ever after. This all took place with the backdrop of Christmas, which was done subtly yet had those elements that I was look for to give me those holiday vibes. I loved that.

There were a few surprises that I didn’t see coming from the back cover mainly the fact that Wyatt and Mia had shared a moment of passion between them after he learned the betrayal of his fiancée. Mia having been in love with Wyatt for many, many years it was a dream true, yet at the same time she believe Wyatt was doing this as rebound and wasn’t in love with her. It compounded with the fact that he didn’t call her, communicate with her, or see her in two weeks. The next time he called her was to tell her that he was moving away, giving Mia an even bigger complex than she already after his supposed “rejected”, but that was not the worse part because she found out she was pregnant, however never told him once she learned his living and not wanting to put the burden on him especially after the funny stuff with his ex. Then tragedy happened, it just created one big mess. Hence this was the biggest conflict between them of all.

But after Wyatt moved back home, he realized how much he missed Mia and wanted her in his life so he was intent wooing her back into his arms under the guise that he needed her due to his brother’s wedding and his other brother’s child, which was a sore spot with him after the stuff with his ex. It really was guise. All he wanted to do was have her in his life and convince her that they belonged together. Boy, did he show it in multiple different ways. He romanced her that I absolutely loved. They really romantic scenes like carriage ride or horseback ride. Stuff like that to show Mia how special she was to him. I appreciate all that he did to show her the depths of his feelings even if she was getting. I loved that the romantic moments were both Christmassy and non Christmassy. It was just really sweet and tender and loving. One of my favorite parts was when she spoke about her past that she never revealed to him before about her parents, which showed great vulnerability and building of emotional intimacy between them even more than they had already as friends.

There were quite a few heated moments between them. I don’t know why but I was expecting that. I thought this would be on sweeter side of the sensual scale, but I was totally wrong. I was glad I was wrong because they were so good. They were steamy and very sensual, embracing both the physical and emotional intimacy between them. They were really well done. There wren’t over the top, but it was just enough to satisfy the passionate side of their relationship. I appreciate them because it was about embracing their closeness in every way as well as enjoying the pleasure that they could have together. It showed how well they fit in all aspects to make for a great couple.

I loved the whole family aspect. It felt very cozy and homey. It made my insides all warm and gooey feeling as they embraced Mia right away from the moment she walked into the door with Wyatt. I loved seeing the banter between the brothers. I liked seeing their bonds as well as each of their relationships with one another. I loved the sister in laws, which became great friends with Mia. That contributed to some great friendship moments between the laddies. I loved the housekeeper, who really was the mother figure that Mia needed and the Gallaghers. I loved those moments between the housekeeper and Mia. They were very sweet and heartwarming especially as Mia was going through the internal conflict that was preventing her from committing to Wyatt completely.

I loved the ending so much. The whole snowed in together was absolutely perfect especially for the holiday season. It fit perfectly in the context of the story because they were stuck there together, and they had to talk through their issues and figure out how to make things work because they loved each other. They could really hash it out there because they weren’t going anywhere. I thought was handle really well and done very cleverly. It just worked perfectly in this scenario. It was so good. Plus it was romantic too, which didn’t hurt either.

The one thing that prevented from giving this a five stars was her mindset of why Wyatt wouldn’t want to be with her once he found out the truth. It felt like she was talking her into herself of her not giving Wyatt a chance even before she talked to him about everything. She was just building it up too much in her mind and for so long. I wanted to shake her and tell her to get over it and just to talk Wyatt already. I get it was meant to be the central conflict of what was keeping them apart, but it lasted a little too long for my liking. Yes, it was legitimate concern, but after awhile it felt less legitimate especially once they are physically intimate again. It just seemed like a moot point that just kept going over and over again. It was a little repetitive. I wasn’t a fan.

Overall I adored this one so much. More than I thought I was going to, and it was nearly perfection. It reminded so much of the flavor of Maisey Yates, who is one of my favorite authors of all time. I got the same vibe with those familiar and lovely tropes that she favors like unrequited love and friends to lovers that fit just into my wheelhouse. Those tend to be the stories I fall in love with the most. There was great angst and tension. There was some very steamy moments that I was expecting but very much appreciated. I loved the lengths that Wyatt was willing to go in order to woo Mia. He did some very sweet and lovely things for her. I loved all the romantic dates that followed like carriage ride and the horseback riding scenes as well as so many more. I just really liked Wyatt and Mia together. They really made a cute couple. Plus added with Christmas flair just made for a really awesome read.

The problem now is that I want to read the other books in this series and the brothers happily ever afters especially seeing the wedding and the baby parts happening in this particular story. I’m very intrigued by the sister’s story as well. That seems like it would be doozy of story.

3 stars — I don’t know…this one started off not bad, but something was just missing from the writing to bring it from words on a page to magic. I’m not a writer, so I don’t even know what’s missing…all I know is that I was sucked in, I wasn’t that captivated, it felt like perfunctory reading instead of emotions and connections and all that shiznit.

It didn’t help that I grew annoyed with Mia’s constant worry over her secret, but her refusal to do anything about it or reach out to anyone. And I was not impressed with Wyatt really at all — he kind of came across as a douchecanoe. His reactions were volatile, he wasn’t super supportive, he wasn’t super kind…he was average stereotypical male, and that’s not my jam.

As for the chemistry between them? Eh. There were all these romantic dates and moments that could have been more, but there was something missing preventing me from swooning or getting wrapped up in them together.

*shrugs* I’m starting to wonder if it’s me or the books. I’ll keep trying!
