Bases #3

Double Play

Rate this book
Everything changed the day she broke up with that piece of shit I used to call my best friend. She was open season to the whole school, the whole town.
Sawyer Boyd is becoming something I crave, I obsess over, someone I want to own with every ounce of my being. I thought it was because I wanted to know what all the hype was about, why every dude on the team wanted to taste and sample.
The problem is, I’m afraid she’ll suck my heart from my chest with her sweet charm and make me change my plans.
Plans that weren’t going to be changed for a redhead with a beautiful smile and freckles to match.
I won’t be susceptible, vulnerable, and a fucking fool for throwing my life away over a chick who everyone seems to be hypnotized by.
But the risk of not having her is too powerful for me to ignore, except it comes with another feeling laced into it — hate.

Asshole hero. Doormat heroine

Hero sleeps with everyone including heroine’s sister. So romantic

Apparently this is part of a series that is not standalone, so if the hero is still an asshole in the 3rd book. Imagine the first two book. There is going to be a book 4, but obviously won’t be reading

While I REALLY, REALLY like the writing, 3 books into this series and it has some editing issues that just haven’t gone away. It’s beginning to grind on me.

Please...get a better editor.

Pants don’t “don” legs
People don’t “transmit” words
Bodies “SHUDDER” not “shutter”
“Has some strong validation on me” WTF?!?
“Bend and SLEW of her body” WTF?!?
“Stumbled fingertips” Again, WTF?!?
It’s Nada not “Nodda”
Learn the correct usage of allude
And FFS, it’s PRINCIPAL, not Principle

I absolutely respect the fuck out of the author’s lack of using “said” to describe words spoken in this novel...but her replacement choices make me feel like she’s stalking thesaurus.com without double checking their usage on dictionary.com — this misperception of words happens frequently throughout the series and it almost negates the quality of writing. I feel tricked into believing her writing chops are better than they are...and I’m still 4 starring this book :/

Worst issue: deadpan, emit, convey, allude, expose, transmit, recite, etc...are either completely unusable as a synonym for “say/said”, are used inappropriately, or are grammatically incorrect and it’s fucking jarring at the rate they occur.

PLEASE...get a better editor.

Oh Lord!!!! My fascination with Colson Hayes knows no bounds right now. The bases series is seriously my favorite addiction! Colson Hayes is just delicious. He is an a-hole, he is a sweetheart. He is my fucking eveything!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grace hits another home run with Double Play. I love continuing Colson and Sawyers story. I love learning more about their past, and seeing the present for them play out. Grace throws in one big twist, (that I fully want to be handled by a big ass speeding bus) and it floored me. It added a whole new dimension to what I was reading. And its now just lingering there, coursing though my head ready to strike at any moment.

This series just gets better and better with each boom she writes!!!

I'm really enjoying this series. The angst is real! This is probably one of the most angstiest books I've ever read. We finally get some action in this book. I'm keeping my fingers crossed Sawyer and Colson get their HEA. I'm looking forward to the last book of the series!

What the hell did I just read? Just when I think I can’t possibly hurt anymore with these characters Hazel freaking smashes my heart to pieces. “Us, mortals, down here want to play with the redheaded goddess who has lips of a sinner and a face of a saint.” Holy hotness! Colson turned up the heat in this one. I didn’t think it was possible to build a story so much with the past and present intertwining to create such angst between these characters. I devoured this book in one sitting trying to find out what happens next. If Hazel’s goal was to have readers on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the grand finale between these two she definitely succeeded. I can’t wait to see what Gavin is up and if love can conquer the drama and heartache our main characters have been through.

"I think I'm in love with you, and I freaking hate you for it."

OMG. This series just keeps getting better and better. I read this in one sitting, but kept taking breaks to make it last longer. This is BY FAR the BEST sports series I have ever read. I can't get enough of Colson and Sawyer. Grace could keep writing this couple for years, and if she continues to write as good as the last three, I'd never grow tired. Young Sawyer still irritated me, but so did Young Colson at the end. The last month waiting between book and three felt never-ending, and now book four has a TBD release date, and I don't know how I am going to deal. THAT'S HOW GOOD THIS BOOK IS. Seriously check it out, but be warned to be in for one he11 of a wait for the next book.

Holy crap - I have never wanted to push through a story and smack the characters heads together than I did while reading this book. The back and forth, give and take that the reader dealt with in Books 1 and 2 is still holding strong in Book 3. I so want Colson ans Sawyer to get their HEA and just when you think it is going to happen - BAM - Hazel Grace decides to throw yet another problem or miscommunication in the mix. I so want Book 4 NOW - but at this point I do not know if my blood pressure can take it.

Bases are Loaded

Hazel Grace really did it this time. Double Play jumps back in with the Colson and Sawyer drama. When an old rival returns Colson faces a breaking point. Sawyer continues to juggle her job, college, and a new opportunity. The sexual attraction and tension that burns between these two is almost unbearable. Will they, or won't they? I found myself nearly screaming at Colson and Sawyer. These two characters are so stubborn and caught up in their past. I can't wait for them both to get out of their own way. The next book can't get here soon enough.

We're back! I swear, for the life of me, even though I'm aware of the cliffhangers, I never see them coming and when I read that last sentence, it's like I've been struck by lightning: I feel disoriented, like "how is this even happening right now?" and I then become restless; I need the next book STAT.

To quote Hazel Grace herself: "Colson and Sawyer are something different, characters I wanted to develop and try. And I’m glad I did it."
And so am I; soooo freaking happy.
They are different from any other characters I've had the chance to read, but here's what they have in common with all of the characters from Hazel Grace that I've read before - and what's most definitely the reason that keeps me coming back for more: they have strong, unique personalities, twisted morals and off the charts chemistry with their matches.

I feel like we've learned so much with this book and got to see Hayes and Bases slowly become more in touch with their Colson and Sawyer selves - if that makes any sense. I believe you know what I mean: they're starting to realize that there's something else there and there's no fighting it; it's messy, sure. But it's meant to be.

I love Sawyer's repeatedly shown strength and relentlessness, and my heart melts every single time Colson's vulnerability makes an appearance: yes, I'm a sucker for the bad boys with the soft spot for that one girl. What else is new? :D

Without giving away any spoilers and to reiterate my initial point, I absolutely love the last line from this book and I strongly believe that it could encapsulate it in its entirety: Colson realizing that maybe, just... maybe, his relationship with Sawyer is running out of his control and no longer fits into the perverse molds he set it off to.

It took me longer to finish reading this story than the previous - as well as reviewing it, due to some unexpected events in my personal/professional life - but if there's one positive thing about it, is that I won't have to wait much longer for the next one. And man, saying I'm excited and that I can't wait for it to come out, would we one of the understatements of the year.

I just don't know if I'm ready to say goodbye.

Seriously Hazel Grace’s talent is just incredible, you see with each book her passion for writing shining through her words. And with this book it was no exception, she did a really great job and had me hanging onto the edge of my sear the entire way through the story. The twists and curveballs that she put into this book was incredible and I love how you get to see a glimpse of what happened in the past…. It fits together with the story really well. Even though Colson is meant to be the big tough guy, you can see that he has a big heart, years ago he was afraid of damaging everything around him, but now you see a whole different side to him… Yes, he is still playing his game with Sawyer, but even that is a little different than how it used to be all those years ago. Your heart breaks for both Colson and Sawyer because of what they’ve both been through and you can’t help but want to just put them together as they suit one another…. I really can’t fault Hazel’s work or ideas, I just loved every minute of this book and can’t wait to see what she has planned with this next one. If you’ve not read her work, then you should because this author has some serious talent that you can’t help but fall in love with.

Colson and Sawyer’s story is still continuing on, but this time there’s more drama, faces from the past and a lot more games…. Sawyer is still determined to keep away from Colson, but she can’t help but keep him in her head, but she’s not prepared for all the games that they’ve been playing. In her eyes, she will or never was Colson’s and whilst she’s trying to do her best to move on it doesn’t seem to be working.
When Gavin comes back into town, they both know for a fact that this is far from being simple… For example, it was because of Gavin that they never got to be together in the first place and he’s still up to his old tricks when he’s back. However, they know that they must stick together and not let him get the better of them.
Are they going to be able to work together in order to not be hurt by old wounds or is everything set to be too much and all the tension and chemistry end up destroying both of they are working for?

Everything I needed in book three, I got. My heart was pounding as I got closer to the end, unsure of where Hazel would leave things, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was prefect.
I loved this book because there's no dip or change in her writing or these characters. It's all consistent, packed with angst and just good writing. I can't wait for book four or to see how things end. This is absolutely one of my favorite YA series to date.

Colson and Sawyer in this book take you on another emotional, heartbreaking read of ups andowns that have you on the edge reading each word and will leave you wanting more. When you think you have it figured out something else pops up and shows you how wrong you are. And when people from The past show up and things get heated between them will they put the past behind? Amazing read each time I read her books I need more and she always deliverys can't wait for the next one to what happens.

💔 Hazel ripped my freaking heart out with this book. I’m speechless. I legit cannot formulate the words to do this book justice. She knocked it out of the park (pun intended) I cannot wait for book four. I recommend one-clicking this bad boy. And one-click them all if you haven’t even started. Because Colson is LIFE!! #teamcolson4ever

This book is impressive and Colton definitely has a spot in my heart.I love the way the both Colton and Sawyer mature through the series and this book shows them in their best! The very annoying asshole hero turned out to be a sweetheart..and the two characters are more realistic with all their flaws rather than being fictional perfect ones.Cant wait to read more!!

Not over yet

As much as it feels repetitive, it's not. Yes they are still going back and forth but their story isn't over yet. Colson and Sawyer are addicting.
