A lonely billionaire. A broke, big-hearted retail associate. Unexpected consequences.
Anna Sharpe has suffered too much loss. In spite of that, she's still hopeful and believes in Christmas miracles. Her retail job has been a second home even though she could, and should, make more money somewhere else. The holiday season at Montgomery's Department Store is fun and she's looking forward to another year of joy at work.
Michael Montgomery has also suffered loss. As the sole owner of the legacy left to him by his father and grandfather, he feels pressure to grow his business. But things in his comfy corner corporate office aren't so rosy. Struggles from within and worries about profits make him realize he needs to make some changes. He hears he's out of touch. One snap decision should help him remedy that problem.
Going undercover, he poses as a new associate in his flagship store. Thinking he'll get insight into the business that will help him make better decisions, he's shocked at some of what he learns. But the biggest surprise of all is Anna Sharpe. He never saw her coming.
Will Michael's secret be the thing that drives Anna away even though it's the very thing that brought them together?
USA Today Bestselling author April Murdock loves romance, especially sweet stories that make you sigh out loud. She loves to write stories inspired by people in her life - past and present. She doesn't live on a ranch, but some of her favorite memories are visiting her cousins at their horse farm. And they've been helpful sharing information that sometimes shows up in her stories.
April has lived her whole life in the Southern US. Traveling is a great love, but coming home to Georgia where her heart is makes her happy.
Very slow moving. The H and h don’t even meet till nearly half-way through the book. Then, they sorta dance around each other, from a fair distance till around the 80% point, when they finally have...a date! Then, the much predicted ‘truth’ comes out, along with the much anticipated hurt feelings. The book ends at the 94% point. With an ending that is as predictable as the rest of the book was, boring. For me, this is not a book I would recommend.
I just couldn’t. I was eight chapters in and extremely bored. Our MCs didn’t even seem close to meeting. Anna was a horrible Mary Sue. She was nothing but sunshine and light when she was in dire straights. There’s keeping positive and then there’s this girl. She got as excited as a child and swore it was a sign of good things to come when it snowed… in Chicago… in December. Ummm, who’s gonna tell her?
The writing just wasn’t good. There were mistakes, crazy over explanations, inconsistencies, and just plain old bad writing and dialogue.
I couldn’t make myself waste my time by sitting through any more of it. I had to DNF and save myself the time.
I like this story of Michael, CEO of Montgomery department store. He knew their was a problem with one of his CFO trying to cut benefits to employees to make more revenue. Michael decided he would go under over and meet and work with his employee to see what they would reveal. However, he wasn't expecting to meet Anne as she trained him. He realized she was the women of his dreams. Now since his secret was out he had to try to convince her to trust him again. Great love story
This is a really a good quick reading story. Michael is President and CEO of his family department store. He has depended on his late fathers adviser and lost sight of what his father and grandfather had wanted for the store. He decides to become an undercover boss and infiltrate the sales team to see behind the scenes and hopefully make the proper decisions for the future of the company. He did not count on falling in love with Anna his sales trainer and coworker. What happens when she discovers he has not been truthful?
This is a great undercover boss story. I loved seeing Michael change how he looked at and lived his life, and decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He really took it seriously when he found out exactly how the employees were being treated, and decided to give back to other people as well as his employees. Anna is a wonderful character, trying too hard to help others despite not having much money herself. It is a clean and wholesome story with a great group of coworkers who look out for each other.
Well.. maybe I could put two stars, but I don't think that would rely convey my displeasure of character "depth" or rather lack there off! Especially the heroine, for me, she seemed like several personalities smashed together or someone with serious, undiagnosed mental health problem. Maybe 1.5. stars..
This book lives up to its purpose as a fun light read about Christmas. It is not something deep and meaningful, or life changing, but it was never billed that way. It is somewhat predictable in its plot, but fun nonetheless. There were some laughable moments provided by the main characters' friends and a happy ending, which stories about Christmas should have.
I have high expectations from an April Murdock book and this is a good addition to her books. Anna probably loves the Montgomery’s Department Store more than Michael Montgomery. She has lived and worked at the store, he has enjoyed the benefits and profits of the stores. The story has romance and skullduggery. I enjoyed the story.
This was a great undercover boss story. Mike was a great employee searching for answers and found them with the most unexpected person. Although the ending was almost abrupt, it was an excellent read.
Two people who were only children in their families and no driving parents meet working at a department store. Love melts their loneliness and their secrets come out. Sweet and clean romance.
This is a delightful story of believing in what can be waiting just out of reach. The two main characters have vastly different upbringings but are brought together to form this belief.
Great reading and a surprise that there were 3 stories instead of one. Will were intreging and interesting with unique twists and turns to keep you're interest.
I never read an undercover boss story before. It was interesting. I would have liked to see some of the changes that the boss made after he was identified.
A sweet romance with shades of the Undercover Boss tv show. I liked the positive bubbly Anna with her patience and charitable attitude. I enjoyed reading this story.
