When light twitches through the dark, who knows what you'll find there? Eldritch beings? Ancient dragons? Or the reek of decay-infested lost souls? Twitching Light is a short story and poetry collection that seeks to answer this question through the exploration of the fantastical, bizarre, and disturbing niches of our world. So light your candles and grab your vorpal blades, for an Orphic journey lies before us.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Alyssa at a Horror convention, where I had picked up this book. As a self-published indie author myself, I truly embraced and admired her creativity and unique acquirements that made this book very enticing.
A few of my favorites, without giving spoilers away, had to be The Man with the Stick, Herxheimers, and especially It’s a Gambler’s City. Her mixture of short stories and poetry was something I’d never experienced before while reading an author’s work. Bravo.
I recommend this book to anyone who thinks outside the box, loves horror, and simply loves and supports other indie authors’ creativity. Cheers to your future success, Alyssa.
My dad picked this up for me at the Tidewater Horror Con and I’m glad for it because it was a great, quick read! Loved the short story/poetry set up and some of the stories have definitely sunk their teeth into me. Hope to see Alyssa continue in her writing!
This book was a lot of fun! I grabbed it at a horror con and then got busy for several months, but I was finally able to finish it recently.
I really enjoyed the variety of stories in this collection. There were tales that were so vividly gruesome that I was hesitant to walk into a dark room afterwards, and there were also stories that brought a sweetness and lightness to the genre. There were poems interspersed between the stories, and I thought that was a really cool element. Other than a couple of small typos in one or two of the stories, this was a real smooth and neatly packaged set of fascinating and varied stories that should appeal to most who are into the genre.
Each story and poem demonstrated a wild and interesting imagination from the author. I have the second set of short stories at my desk, and I am excited to dig in and see what other tales of horror there are!
