Arthur Graham writes and edits for a living. Cofounder and former head editor of Rooster Republic Press. Current Editor in Chief of Horror Sleaze Trash.
A new issue anticipating 2020 and new seasons of creativity. Poems both bold and simply stated mesh with more abstract pieces, all of them honest and raw. Leading the fearless are Thumper Devotchka with uninhibited sensuality, Judge Santiago Burden with a needle full of venom, Arthur Graham and his mighty coiffure, and Mendez Biondo with the stiletto woman. Also, there's a booby. Cheers!
Another top notch collection from HSTQ, it must be fun sorting through the submissions cos the ones that make the cut are fantastic.
Highlights this time round seem to be the ones that made me laugh out loud...I did one of those LOL thingys. The first great poem was "More Than Expected" by Anthony Dirk Ray brilliant come back at the end of that one. Bogdan Dragos had two included this time, both of which were very good but by far the best in the whole book was his "Cartoonist" a contender for my poem of 2020 right there.
If you aint read any HSTQ then whats wrong with you...the editor even guarantees that this one will feature poems “Stocking Stuffer” and “The Naughty List”, some gingerbread dildo recipes, the Randy Rudolph Petting Zoo, and a really nice piece about a gangbang with elves and eggnog at the North Pole!
In which we learn Debbie Harry is a bit of a bitch, that men lose half an inch of cock by the time they are sixty, and that turning right on a red light in NYC can sometimes work in your favor. A surprising amount of beauty to be found amidst the squalor - one of the strongest editions yet.
This holiday edition is filled w/ hos! I wish all the issues had a funny, festive intro like this one. Even amid bald-faced debauchery there are lines like "Life if a cigarette butt or the stars above" by Thumper. Or Dirk Ray's Wild West Russian roulette" line about meeting a '90s party phone girl. The Fix by Judge Burdon should def be a rap! Though that is a serious confessional/introspection, the next poems make up the funnies issue, though some lines are def lifted from Facebook memes.
Stacey Lawrence is a writer to watch w/ what happens in whore-heeled Manhattan's slim alleyways. The same goes for David Estringel w/ the glide to his lusty words, the action of hands sliding down warm, dress-hugged hips and dripping spit. Ivory Lizards by Mitch Green writes of half dead lot lizards, it seems, something watching them in a woodsy room.
The next poem about Olive Garden after DMT is very cute, def captures a teen to adult comfiness. Josef Desade writes light BDSM beautifully, about bended knees and an unspoken worship; I'd love to see him collab w/ Kristin Garth's feminine touch. The next few poems delve into the bloody rather abruptly. Arthur has a poem called 20! Still living young and reckless, on a mattress around black garbage bags. Most of these poems seem autobiographical.
What a way to kick off the new year! This issue is killer! I especially fancied 'Mean Debbie' by Puma Perl , 'Cartoonist' by Bogdon Dragos' , 'Another Twenty' by Arthur Graham and 'Stiletto Woman in My Kitchen' by Mendes Biondo. Exciting collection.
