Love and Prophesy is a clearly written and insightful look at how Christians can build a strong foundation for hearing, interpreting and releasing words of prophesy over others. I loved that Dan used I Corinthians 13:4-8 as this foundation, liking prophesy to love with all its characteristics described in that verse.

So, as love is patient, so is prophesy. Same for love being kind - prophesy should also be kind. And he goes through all the traits that describe love and shows how believers should use these same guides to direct their prophetic words.

I liked all the descriptions, but I was immediately captured by how prophesy, like love, should always protect. That means seeing people as the Lord does, as his adopted and redeemed children. Prophesy should not attack or condemn, but instead should remind us of who we are as a new creation in Jesus.

The book is a quick read, but at the same time it is deep. I believe it will help believers be more effective and loving in their use of prophesy, and I strongly recommend it.

I read this book with a group of people growing in the prophetic gifting, and it’s a very helpful and straightforward book on that spiritual gift. I like the project of tying the prophetic gifting to the definition of love. I didn’t agree with everything, but it was a good book to read in community.

The author did an excellent job of showing the importance of love even in the prophetic. Too often it seems to be missing among the community of believers.

Super interesting deconstruction of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. I’ve never heard someone teach on this chapter like he does in this book and I really appreciated all the spiritual nuggets in each chapter.
I would recommend this book for anyone who wants practical “protocols” (as he calls them) for operating in the prophetic.
I gave 3 stars bc his writing style is just not my personal favorite. It’s more bullet point sentences and tools. Useful but not a mentally enticing read.
