Started the book, because I loved the series. Wish now that I hadn’t, because it has ruined the series for me. Hoping time will erase the memory of this book, so I can safely watch the series again. The writing is actually incredible, and there are some really funny one liners. However, the content literally made me sick, and I am accustomed to problematic or triggering content.

The beginning was interesting enough but then half way through apparently the author just decided f*** it and just went off the rails. Once the actual “romance” started it was horrible and abusive. Half the time they barely even seem to like each other. Not to mention there’s a straight up rape scene between the two leads that basically results in no consequences, and instead almost like the victim deserved it. Seriously wtf?? I feel like only the beginning and ending of the relationship are interesting (if you skip forward to their wedding in book 2). Even outside of the romance - the main storyline - this novel is fraught with issues like blatant sexism, intolerance, and just bad writing overall. Would not recommend! Idk who on earth is giving this high ratings. I was only able to finish it out of sheer stubbornness.

While I enjoyed the ardent love shared by the main characters there are so many problems with the relationships, writing, development, and how groups of people are generalized so much they fail to be dynamic characters. When I was younger I enjoyed this story more, but the red flags are glaring to me now. Characters are very linear with the exception of Bai Luo Yin who does change a bit. While Gu Hai attempts too, he often reverts to old behaviors and thought patterns. Women are written as one character as well, with the exception of Aunt Zou, and they are written as petty, jealous, inferior beings who use manipulation and deceit to get what they want, and only have men as their goal.The book starts great with a good plot, one that remains interesting for most the book but is ruined by the constant red flags, violence for 0 reason, and linear characters. The ending also felt rushed and unrealistic after they spent all that time communicating, Luo Yin suddenly decides he knows best while under the influence of adrenaline and trauma... 3 stars is me being generous because of the nostalgia.

As with many it seems, watching the series (a long time after its origins) and then being left high and dry by the needless nature of the ban given the omissions and toning down of the series compared to base work
For me the novel delivers, and actually makes so much sense! Emotionally it’s something I wasn’t prepared for, and weirdly that helps, I felt.
Having watched a lot of the fan stuff, some of the saddest is that the team involved with the series are unlikely to ever get to work together to conclude that version, and the two leads (whatever the speculation / reality) had their relationship ripped apart - some strange irony in there......... maybe, one day it won’t be like that

The novel starts off great and I love most of the characters and the different relationships. I love the love between the main characters there are problematic issues but they are human make mistakes and grow from them.The rape scene and lack of consequences was my issue it was completely unnecessary and the book would have been better without it.it really did not makes sense. The book as a whole is worth a read.

Tuve que leer la novela ya que la serie fue cancelada (aunque igual la hubiera leído, si no la hubieran cancelado). Aún no termino la segunda parte, pero esta primera parte es muuuuuuuuuuuuy tóxica jajsjaja pero me gustó mucho y estos dos se aman demasiado, su amor es muy grande y aunque muy tóxico, nada los puede separar. Es una historia muy fuerte, toca temas muy duros pero, la amo. Es de mis favoritas incluso si me dio un tremendo dolor de cabeza, ME ESTRESÓ MUCHO aaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Yo, I really enjoyed this book! It's one of my top favorite in the BL section and I don't get tired rereading this. I absolutely love the chemistry and love between Bai Louyin and Gu Hai. There were some situations that I frown upon. Although they made peace eventually and reached an agreement but I still absolutely hate that scene. Poor BLY. Overall, it was a fun and interesting ride and BLY is one of my favorite fictional characters.

I LOVE THIS BOOK and no series can do it justice. The raw emotions and passion. Questionable consent is present in this book, but the character development and the build-up is incredible. Every second captivates you.
