Tate’s Tale is the first book in the adult mythology based fantasy series, Sexy Sins Retreat by Lilith Darville. This book is also a reverse harem and is pretty steamy, so it is not for a younger audience. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I have already started to continue on with the series. It is a series that is a super quick read, lots of fun and is addictive. but it got off to a rocky start for me. I felt like the start of the story was too rushed and kind of confusing, but after the first few chapters, I put the start aside and quickly fell into the story. This was a book, and a series, that got better as it went on.
In Tate’s Tale, we meet our main character Tate as she is being pulled from her hospital room to some kind of in between world. She is told that she needs to fix some problem at an other-world academy- the Sexy Sins retreat. They have been having an incubi/sucubi problem and they are in desperate need of some administrative help. The reader quickly learns that this academy is run by the gods of greek mythology, and you all know by now that I love a book featuring greek gods. In this world there are also examiners, whose job it is to help souls ascension to the Underworld. They are assigned to Tate to help her get situated as headmistress of the academy, and they are also her destined mates. But they can’t know that they are each other’s mates. This aspect of the story bugged me. I didn’t really understand why they had to be cloaked from one another, and it never really made sense to me. But be that as it may, they were clocked so upon first glance they would not be able to recognize the other person as their mate. Fated Mates is always a hit trope for me, and this was no exception. I loved the guys and their interaction with Tate.
There was not too much incubi/sucubi interaction in this book. It served more of the setting the groundwork for the next books purpose, and it did a good job at that. I am interested in seeing where the series is going to go. Overall, this book was a lot of fun once I got past the first few chapters. If you are a fan of mythology fantasies and paranormal romances, and if you enjoy them on the steamier side, this will be the perfect series for you. The books are just over 200 pages, so you can breeze through them quickly and binge read all four books in no time. That is what I am currently in the middle of, and I am really enjoying myself. They are a lot of fun.
