Once I figured out who everyone was and got used to the flow I was able to enjoy this more. Basically this story follows three storylines but are all connected through family. Alicia is the daughter and it also follows her mother and father. Her parents get divorced and then both are in relationships right afterwards. The good news is that everyone's story ends happily.

This is a difficult book to review. I kept waiting for things that just didn’t happen and at times got confused.

I fell in love with a couple of the characters and loathed some others.

💕Jennifer: It was hard not to like her. She had been dealt a rough hand. She loved her husband, Ben, for many years. They were high school sweethearts, but he lost all passion or desire for her. He tried to mold her into his mother. He controlled her and claimed he was protecting her. Over time, Ben lost all of his passion and desire. The bedroom was empty. Jennifer wanted more in life but always was denied it until she finally took matters in her own hands.

🤯 Ben: Sorry, he was pretty despicable and very frustrating. What he denied his wife he gave to Macy, his secretary. While married, he refused to touch Macy, but had a lured, emotional and mental affair with her for a looooong time. When presented with divorce papers, he didn't fight for his marriage. Nope, he found sympathy in Macy's undeserving arms. Yes, he realized how he wronged Jennifer, but never tried to correct his wrongs or get his wife back. He literally chased Jennifer away. He abandoned their marriage bed and totally withdrew all love for her… physical, mental and emotional. Had he treated her with half the attention he gave Macy, his and Jennifer’s marriage would have thrived. It was Ben who starved Jennifer out of the marriage. He forced her hand.

🦊 Macy: Like a sly ol’ fox, she tries to come across as innocent when all I saw was a home breaker. While Ben and Jennifer were still married, Macy made a move on Ben. To his credit, he reminded her he was a married man and refused her advance. Macy became very friendly with Jennifer all the while crushing on Jennifer's husband. At the end of the book we find out a secret that Macy kept which she claims made her avoid men. She plays so very innocent here but had no qualms making a pass on Ben during his marriage. Also, three busy-body church goers plot ways to get Macy hooked up with Ben right after his divorce … not good. 💔

😍 Franklin…. he’s easy to love. Jennifer is a middle-aged woman and still beautiful… inside and out. He is attracted to her. He also respects her and values her. He’s a lot younger than Jennifer but doesn’t let that get in his way. He wants a family, he wants to be a good husband and sees Jennifer as the perfect partner for him … at home and at work.

OBSERVATIONS:
👁 It’s hard to see a marriage dissolve and the ex become great friends with the ‘other’ woman…
👁 It was not easy to understand how the daughter found everything all okay with dad and the ‘other’ woman.
👁 Ben, the dad and ex husband, needed a rude awakening…. and so did Macy. They certainly didn’t deserve a happy-ever- after role.

I received and read a rough draft of the book so I'm sure the final version cleared up the confusion I mentioned. I will read this author in the future. This just wasn't my favorite. (Edited to change name to Franklin, not John.)

Many story lines, much love, a winding journey

I love Sage's stories but I will confess this one was a little harder to complete. She wrote this one from multipme pov's. We start with Jennifer. She is married to Ben, but neither of them is completely happy in that role any longer. They have a daughter, Alicia, who has followed in her father's job footsteps with the desire to join the family firm. The firm where her Grandfather, Uncle Jack, and her former crush's father, James, all work. We also meet Lily, Alicia's best friend and wife to Uncle Jack, and Macy, Ben's secretary and soon to be love interest. Got all that? Oh and James' son Rudy and Franklin, Jennifer's boss and eventually more.
I enjoyed all the stories for these characters but i do feel I might have enjoyed them more as novels or novellas for each couple showing the simlar timeframe, but less confusing to read. This book took a little more patience for me to complete since the multi-POVs were confusing since they aren't really seperated by chapters or even page breaks. We get to see things mainly from Jennifer, Ben, Alicia, and James' POV. But the over-arcing thread of love, be it familial, lovers, or friendship, that shines through as well as each characters' personal journey.

I honestly wanted to put this down and not continue within a few pages. The start is disjointed and I didn't see it get better as the pages were turned. By chapter 3, a relationship is introduced in a way that made me think I missed a huge revelation...but I didn't. It was a left field introduction with no build-up or even a hint of backstory until much further in (which I discovered after a whole lot of fast forwarding). I truly tried but struggled to make it to chapter 5 and had to stop. It's possible that the writing style simply isn't for me.

This book jumps from place to place, from second person narrative to third person narrative, from one set of characters to another. It is a confusing and frustrating read which just needs a total rewrite. However I will tell you I generally like Sage Rae books and feel this is just an anomaly in her writing.

Save Me

Overall a good book but took a bit to get into it as jumps from one character to another, probably requires a second read.

Wow - this story took me by surprise. Originally I thought the story would be about Rudy and Alicia or even on Jennifer and Ben, but once you get into it - it's about everyone including Macy, Franklin, Jason, Poppy, John and Lilly.... Do not stop reading it because I was close to doing that, but after realizing that each story intertwine with each other it made it an interesting read. Do note Alicia is Jennifer and Ben's daughter; Rudy is Jason's son, and Macy works in the firm as Ben's assistant, Franklin is working with Jennifer, Lilly is married to Alicia's uncle and her best friend, Poppy is a singer, ex to Rudy, and poor John a one night stand. I'm not able to say more without giving the good parts away, please be patient when reading the book, but it is good - do not give up on it. Sage knows her stuff and how to keep you in tune with the story.

This book is all about family. Jennifer and Ben have a daughter, Alicia, who is becoming a lawyer. James works in the same firm with Ben and he is helping Alicia study for her exams. Ben is very overprotective of his family, he doesn’t allow Jennifer to travel with her real estate job. Jennifer gets fed up with it and files for a divorce. Ben after his divorce is final begins to see that his secretary Macy. James and Alicia become very close while working together. Through all the twists and turns of the emotional roller coaster ride you will be on throughout this book family is awesome. I really enjoyed reading this book.

I honestly started reading this book because the blurb was interesting. Sadly, the interesting blurb described a totally different book. I even had to go through the comments to make sure I am talking about the 50 chapter book that went everywhere and nowhere. I was so detached from the characters it felt like reality TV. Where you watch people doing useless things. Reading about details like changing nappies and going to the bathroom are some parts of people's lives noone really wants to read about. She jumped around themes so much it was confusing and even managed to call James , Ben several times in one excruciating chapter. The ideas were good though. It just needs a re-write.

After lots of years together, although Jennifer still loves her husband Ben, she feels something is missing in her life.
Ben loves her wife, but the passion he once felt for her is just gone. However, every time he sees Macy…
Alicia has spent so much time with James while he was teaching her and helping her with her studies that it was impossible not to fall in love with him.
This is not just one romance but several. All the stories are very good. However, they are all mixed up together which makes the book kind of a mess.
One thing I didn’t like is the third person narration. It makes me feel anxious. I’d rather preferred dialogues.

This is a complicated contemporary book about a family and how things develop over time. The storyline switches between characters narratives frequently making the book one you need to concentrate while reading. The characters are well defined, interesting but not always likeable. It is an emotional rollercoaster filled with heart ache and romance and love. I enjoy some of the aspects but I found it bit of struggle to get through it. I think it would have been better as a series of books to make each of the stories shine on their own. The writing is good and overall it is an interesting book.

Jennifer is a wife and mother of a teenage daughter Alicia, she seems to have everything but looks can be deceiving. Jennifer has been working part time as estate representative. Her husband is a lawyer who runs the family business . The Problem is that Ben the father and husband believes that the females should be home taking care their man. This was an interesting story about what happens when you try stifle someone because of their own fear. Enjoyed the characters and the story line. Mothers and daughters.

This is the story that follows Jennifer and her adult daughter Alicia over the course of years and their relationships and changes and secrets.

Jennifer is married to Ben and their daughter Alicia is twenty when we are introduced. Years later, she’s studying to be a lawyer. She gets involved with her mentor, Janes who is her father’s partner.

Trouble with Ben.

Later, Jennifer finds a new relationship with Franklin.

Secrets Are Dangerous But Can Be Fun:

Please note I read this book in June and my review is based on that copy. It has subsequently been revised.

It is a good read, with great characters and a heartfelt storyline, that will keep your attention throughout the book. Whilst I enjoyed the book, I felt the storyline needs to be condensed to make the story flow better. I will still recommend it as a must read, based on the story.

I had a hard time getting vested into anyone in this book, as such I had a hard time reading and finishing this book. But, most of all, I was really disappointed in Ben, talked about a spoiled brat, with a my way or the highway attitude. This story is about Ben, his wife Jennifer and their daughter Alicia, their relationships with each other and others in their lives. The story begins when Alicia is still in high school and ends the year after she receives her law degree.

What a story suspicion intrigue divorce marriage and a baby.

Great story a divorce, a one night stand, a baby . That's only Ben and Jennifer, then there is the daughter Alicia a student of law wanting to join their family firm and falls for James. Ben falls for his secretary and Uncle Jack doesn't want a baby with his younger wife yet. Rudy who is James son is in love Alicia. It's all so complicated but a jolly good read.

I've read this authors books before and found this book completely different from the authors previous books....dont get me wrong i thoroughly enjoyed reading it but i think that this story could have been broken down in a three part series.
This was an enjoyable read of a married couple that have drifted apart and how finding themselves in new relationships brings them all together.

The author has assured me that the final copy was edited to the max hence the 4 stars as I really enjoyed the story. Problem is if the early reviewers cringed like me at all the errors, especially when names of the characters even got muddled up, then sales will be affected. That said, I trust this author's word. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

Caught In The Middle

Alicia is caught between her parents, who have drifted apart. The are multiple older/younger relationships throughout the story. This style got bogged down for me. This is different from previous books I have read by Sage Rae, not my favorite. This book is just ok.

A nice story that took a while to get into, to be honest. However, as the story developed I grew to like the characters and the drama and angst that went on. It was sweet and funny in places as well.

By chapter 2 I was so confused about what was going on until I read reviews saying there was multiple pov and I couldn't finish it. The story to me didn't make sense and there was too many pov's. The description made the story seem like it was one h and H. Not other characters talking.

Wonderfully intense story of family drama, love, and success.

Deep, difficult topics well developed with satisfactory outcome. I completely enjoyed reading even if sometimes it took me time to realize the twist in the story. Also some typos to work around.
