Running a marina in isolated Waka Bay, British Columbia was her husband’s dream, not hers. But now he’s dead and a prime suspect in a murder.
Shattered by grief, Camryn Hudson must return to the bay to exonerate her husband, protect her seven year-old son, and save a failing business.
Loner Finn Weber’s mission seems equally impossible. He left a top job in Seattle to work in tiny Port McNeill. Fulfilling a bargain with his ailing mother, he must sail to Waka Bay every weekend. He never imagined the danger of cruising into Camryn’s heart while withholding a family secret.
A killer roams the land and vultures demand possession of the marina. Can Camryn solve a crime and survive in Waka Bay?
Scandinavian, Army Brat, English Teacher, High School Principal, Golfer, Boater, World Traveler, Author. With her experiences, Rolynn Anderson is fairly bursting with stories about extraordinary people and amazing settings, real and contrived. Now add her competitive nature and her love of ‘the makeover.’ As a principal, she and the staff she hired, opened a cutting-edge high school; as co-captain with her husband on INTREPID, she cruises from Washington State to Alaska and back. As a writer, she delights in creating imperfect characters faced with extraordinary, transforming challenges. Her hope: You'll devour her ‘makeover’ suspense novels in the wee hours of the morning, because her stories, settings and characters, capture your imagination and your heart.
I've been on the water in boats in high seas and low. This story took me back to those times and resonated through my core. I was cold, I was scared, I was angry, I was so frustrated I cried. I felt every emotion the heroine Camryn Hudson experienced, thanks to the author's powerful writing and scene setting. Her husband dies in a horrible timber company accident. Not bad enough he's dead, he has chained her to a marina she's not sure she can run on her own. Could things get worse? Yes, and they do. Her in-laws try to get her parental rights revoked, her DEAD husband is accused of murder, and the man she thinks she's falling for, Finn Weber, has more secrets than a triple agent. No spoilers from me, you must read the book to find out why I give it 5 stars and 5 rousing tug boat toots.
Wow, the beautiful description and wonderful characters in Rolynn Anderson’s When Mountains Fall kept me turning the pages as much as the chilling suspense. I’ve never been to British Columbia, but after reading this story, I definitely want to make the trip.
After her husband‘s death, Camryn Hudson has her hands full with a seven-year-old son, running a marina she wasn’t sure she really wanted, and clearing her husbands name. The last thing she needed was a vicious murderer on the loose in Waka Bay.
Ms. Anderson weaves a terrific tale that will keep you glued to your seat and turning the pages of this gripping novel. If you love a good who-done-it and being swept into a story with fascinating description and great characters, I highly recommend When Mountains Fall.
When Mountains Fall is the perfect blend of romance, mystery and emotion. Camryn is a great heroine, and her love for her son comes through in every interaction. The story is intense and heartbreaking and the setting comes alive. I’m not a boat person but the author did a great job conveying the information in a way I could understand and relate to. I was at the edge of my seat, wondering how this story was going to play out and I was not disappointed, other than by the fact that the book was over. Highly recommend!

Take a trip to the marina despite not living anywhere near the water! The detailed descriptions made for memorable characters and a scenic reading experience. The suspense builds along with the romance in this great mystery.
I’ve sailed along the British Columbia coast only once, but author Rolynn Anderson’s vivid descriptions transported me to Waka Bay. The details in her story also show she’s extremely knowledgeable about boating and marinas. The subtitle, Woman at the Helm Mystery, is so true because the kick-ass heroine is navigating some very troubled waters. Camryn is struggling to stay afloat while dealing with widowhood, raising a young son, saving a failing marina, and exonerating her dead husband. Add a killer on the loose and you have all the ingredients for a page-turning story to keep you reading late into the night.
Camryn’s husband is dead. She and her son have been living with his wealthy parents. But her son wants to return to their home in isolated Waka Bay, British Columbia. For his mental health, she takes him home and together they fight to run the failing business while she tries to clear her husband’s name of murder. When she meets Finn, who anchors his boat in the bay every weekend, her life becomes more interesting and more tense as he has secrets of his own.
Ms. Anderson paints a vivid picture of this beautiful area while weaving a story of intrigue and romance.
Loved the first-hand descriptions of remote marinas and the hard work it takes to survive in that wilderness. Great character development; really made me feel Camryn and Samuel are real.
This book is a real chiller, especially for a landlubber like me. The gorgeous setting of coastal British Columbia becomes ominous and threatening as you read about the nitty gritty details of trying to live on and maintain a floating marina. The author is an experienced sailor and uses her wealth of knowledge to bring the reader directly into every scene. The practical, legal, and emotional problems facing the heroine keep piling up until they seem insurmountable, but with the help of her friends and a mysterious newcomer, she finds a way to prevail.
A grieving widow, a loner, a precocious young boy, and a murderer. This mystery will have the reader guessing and second guessing. Excellent characterization and a fascinating setting in an isolated bay in British Columbia. If you want to read an intriguing story, grab this book.
