TESS GERRITSEN'S
Never Say Die

Willy Jane Maitland traveled to Saigon to uncover what had happened to her father, missing in action twenty years ago. Instead she found intrigue -- and murder. Only the rumpled and irreverent ex-soldier Guy Barnard seemed willing to help. But as Willy was about to discover, even Guy had his hidden motives, his shocking secrets . . . and Vietnam was a dangerous place to fall in love.

DEBRA WEBB'S
No Way Back

Michal Arad wanted vengeance when he kidnapped former CIA agent Ami Donovan, claiming she'd posed as his lover to set him up as an assassin. But Ami had amnesia and no way of knowing the truth . . . until Michal took her in his arms. In spite of her fear, Ami sensed Michal wasn't a ruthless killer, but the man she'd once loved . . . and the father of her child.

Internationally bestselling author Tess Gerritsen took an unusual route to a writing career. A graduate of Stanford University, Tess went on to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where she was awarded her M.D.

While on maternity leave from her work as a physician, she began to write fiction. In 1987, her first novel was published. Call After Midnight, a romantic thriller, was followed by eight more romantic suspense novels. She also wrote a screenplay, "Adrift", which aired as a 1993 CBS Movie of the Week starring Kate Jackson.

Tess's first medical thriller, Harvest, was released in hardcover in 1996, and it marked her debut on the New York Times bestseller list. Her suspense novels since then have been: Life Support (1997), Bloodstream (1998), Gravity (1999), The Surgeon (2001), The Apprentice (2002), The Sinner (2003), Body Double (2004), Vanish (2005), The Mephisto Club (2006), and The Bone Garden (2007). Her books have been translated into 31 languages, and more than 15 million copies have been sold around the world.

As well as being a New York Times bestselling author, she has also been a #1 bestseller in both Germany and the UK. She has won both the Nero Wolfe Award (for Vanish) and the Rita Award (for The Surgeon.) Critics around the world have praised her novels as "Pulse-pounding fun" (Philadelphia Inquirer), "Scary and brilliant" (Toronto Globe and Mail), and "Polished, riveting prose" (Chicago Tribune). Publisher Weekly has dubbed her the "medical suspense queen".

Now retired from medicine, she writes full time. She lives in Maine.

I’ve read the first book before and very much enjoyed it again. The second book, however, really blew me away. Five stars for it. I’ve not read any books from this author before, but certainly will in the future. It was really good. I’m usually not much into romance type stories, but the other elements in this book did keep me entertained.

I had never heard of this author. I enjoyed the mystery of a daughter searching for her father whose plane was lost in Vietnam twenty years after his plane was lost.

Double Impact by Tess Gerritsen I must say that I really enjoyed the reissue of Never Say Die/No Way Back that this volume represents. I'm such a fan of both authors, and reading these singles again reminded me how good Tess Gerritsen and Debra Webb really are. It was like I picked up these books for the first time, entered into the characters' worlds, and immersed myself in their story all over again. Kudos, Ladies!

This was a book I downloaded to my Kindle. It was recommended to me by my local librarian, not something I would have picked myself. It was actually 2 books in one. One book was written by Debra Webb (No Way Back) and the other book was written by Tess Gerritsen (Never Say Die).

Debra Webb is a relatively new author. The book was filled with mystery, adventure and sexuality. Danger was around every corner and included terrorist assassinations, international intelligence agencies, kidnapping, brutality, and undying love.

Tess Gerritsen, a more experienced author, wrote a very entertaining suspense novel set in Vietnam. A daughter in search of the truth about her father, a pilot for Air America. Was he dead or alive? Was he a traitor or a patriot? There is unlikely love affair that occurs among the dangerous search for the truth in the jungles of Vietnam.

Really pretty good!
Never Say Die - Willy's father was shot down in Southeast Asia. Her mother was told he was dead, but there was no body. Now all grown up and her mother is dying, she went to Vietnam to look for answers.
No Way Back - Ami woke with amnesia 4 weeks pregnant. Two years later, someone recognized her as a a covert CIA agent who was supposed to be dead.

Both of these books are exceptional. Again from the back blurb I wouldn't normally select this story. Tess Gerritsent was the draw that drew me in. Debra Webb is a new author for me and one I'll watch for now.

why are people giving this book so many stars?? I feel like I was reading a completely different book from the one reviewed!!

It was...not good. I'm usually fairly entertained by Tess Gerritsen and her section fell short of my expectations. The second book was just convoluted and bad.

Tess Gerritsen books

I got two stories in Double Impact and both were filled with suspense and romance. Tess is one of my favorite writers and she didn't disappoint me in these two.
