After overworking himself in the city, Nagisa returns back to the small fishing village he once called home. A place filled with painful memories and regret becomes all too real as his childhood friend, Kaito, shows up at his home. There was a reason Nagisa left his hometown in the first place and the last person he wanted to see was Kaito. Even after all these years, Nagisa's feelings have remained the same, hiding just beneath the surface. After the tragic events that unfolded in this little fishing village, can Nagisa and Kaito find closure? Or will memories of the past hinder their future?
You have to be in the right mood to read this one!
This is a very good story. Nagisa comes back to the little fishing village in which he had spent his childhood. He is feeling down to be forced back home, a village with not much prospects for a young man. But that is just part of why he is depressed. In reality, he still reeling from having lost a friend there 10 years ago and, in fact, feels responsible for his death. Now, meeting Kaito, another childhood friend (the three of them were always together), he has to deal with memories and emotions that had been buried long ago. I say you have to be in the right mood to read this manga, because Nagisa is an aspiring writer and the whole story is from his point of view. He has a lot to reflect upon as he tries to find himself. As you might imagine, a person trying to find himself and trying to deal with his past, will be apt to ponder questions like "Does God exists?", a kind of question not usually dealt with in yaoi mangas. The drawing is good and I like the background scenery of the old house, the beach and nature in general. The story, as I said, is a little melancholy. The translation is good but I still had to read some parts more than once because certain sentences are spread over several scenes and internal and external simultaneous dialogue were going on at the same time.
It was a bit expository in spots but it was lovely art and I enjoyed reading how the boys dealt with their grief and found love in each other. Very enjoyable.
With the topics of death, loss, grief, and recovery, I feel this barely touched the surface. I expected it to be heart-wrenching and tear-jerking... this was neither. I found the sex aspect to take up too much of the story. While I didn't have a bad reading experience with this, I just found it to be a bit lackluster. I wanted raw feelings and more depth to the story than what was given..
