Check on the secluded mountain cabins my real estate firm had recently spent a bundle building. See if they could be turned into some sort of resort getaway for the rich and burned out.
As the high-powered female CEO, I would do everything I could to make the project a success.
But with three burly lumberjacks stomping around the forest, all shirtless and sweaty, muscles bulging, getting in my way, I can’t seem to get anything done.
I just want some peace and quiet so I can concentrate. But Caleb, Mark, and Todd aren’t about to give me any of that.
I haven't read too many reverse harem books but I've always been curious about them. This book was oh so steamy and so good! Even though this is considered a novella, I think it was played out very well. Again, like I said I haven't read many, but our heroine knew what she wanted and her ideas of a relationship was kind of already in the mindset for a relationship as this one. The 3 men were so amazing towards her and great guys! I look forward to reading more books by this author.
This story is entirely told from the female CEO's view with lots of descriptive paragraphs even in the middle of a conversation. I had to keep looking back to see what the reply was too, usually several pages before. I honestly absolutely detest over descriptive single viewpoint Reverse Harem stories. If it was a male viewpoint it would be better, but the guys in this story are clearly props who fill a requirement and honestly if they all had the same name you wouldn't know it was a reverse harem. I wouldn't read another frOm this author.
This was a fast, one day read for me. I like that the romance, though instalove, was questioned by the female lead. Not in a, "what will other people say", kind of way, but more that she was wondering what the men were thinking. I love the way it played out at the end. I'm always happy when I pick up a new book from a new author and get completely engrossed in the book.
This was a nice romance, sprinkled with a few sexytimes and a brief menage. The storyline, desiring to get away from the rat race, was something I identified with, though sadly there were no 3 lumberjacks for me. The only downside to this book, for me, is that the main character "thought" alot-sometimes multiple pages in a row of "thought". Overall, it is a decent romance book.
Wow! I had to skip over so many pages. There was way too many unneeded details about Liana's life concerning work, men, her life. It was so redundant and to be honest boring. Not enough steamy scenes either (probably because of all the excess details). Sorry I don't think I will be reading another book by this author.
This story about a women who was workaholic running her company and came to check out cabins in the woods when she finds three lumberjacks to fall in love with stay living with them
What an awesome story! I’m so glad I took a chance and got this book. It was more than what I had expected and reading about Liana, Caleb, Mark and Todd was definitely worth my time! I’m looking forward to reading more books by Chloe Kincaid.
Reminded me that sometimes reverse harems standalones don’t give you enough relationship build up between the characters. General concept was there, just felt like there were parts missing in my opinion.
Enjoyed this book. Liked how it brought everyone together. How each man was different due to life experiences as well as her experiences. Liked how to ended too :)
It was ok I love reverse harem books but I just couldn’t get into this one. In all honesty I might just be going through a reading slump at the moment.🤷🏻♀️
Okay... Honest review? I read Thick Wood as part of a joke with my friends, but let's be real here, I'm not entirely new to this genre between the years of reading fan-fiction, text-based games, the occasional harlequin romance, Twilight, Fifty Shades, and, seperately, my personal love of romantic comedy films. So while I read this for the laughs (and I definitely had a few) I will review Thick Wood as I would any other.
Mostly, Thick Wood was not bad enough to have been read for a joke, even though the title is promising. The writing was solid, the word choice was average, if not boring, and the sex... the sex actually was totally boring. And only, disappointingly, slightly funny.
Thick Wood is formulaic, with one (1) sex scene happing every twenty pages. So while at first, you're like, "Oh, we're really getting into it 18 pages in? Okay," after a while you're like "okay, 2 more pages until she gets it on with the next lumberjack man." That, alongside the most vanilla sex you can possibly imagine (like we get it, he's hot and has a penis, thank you. Or should I say... Thick Wood), made Thick Wood a bit generic and repetitive. And then once you get to the ultimate foursome Thick Wood is clearly promising, you're just let down by the fact that it really is just a rotating threesome with one guy awkwardly watching on the side. This is fiction, people! This is the time and place to get creative!
So... the sex is boring, which is the most important part for books such as Thick Wood. But what I usually read romance for is for the emotional depth and the slow burn, which I did not find here either. For that, I probably should have picked up Jane Austin. But it would have been nice for there to have been some discussion about how weird it is that these three best friends are just cool sharing the same girl? Like where's the angst? The jealousy? The homoerotic undertones? Like, there's definitely something not entirely straight going on here, right? Give me family drama, or even a Bridget Jones situation! Anything to make up for the most boringly realistic sex imaginable.
And finally, as someone else mentioned in the reviews here, the main character thinks a LOT. This woman is chatty, self-centered, for some reason constantly recaps what we just read as if she did not just experience it moments earlier, and is, did I mention, self-centered? Hate to break it to you girlie, but you really don't have a "modicum of charm" as you "like to think." And no, the world won't stop turning just because you moved from your generic city to "wild" Oregon. OREGON! lol
That said, I read this almost in one sitting and considering that this has been one of the worst ever years for me book-wise (novels), that's pretty impressive. And did I mention that I love the title? Very clever. And subtle. Take my two stars Thick Wood! You've earned them!
This book has all the things I like in my romance. Mountain men, reverse harem, being out in the woods. Alas, it didn't work. I did not like Liana and if there's one thing that will ruin a book quickly is a heroine I find annoying. I found Liana very annoying. There was just too much of her internal monologue and it went on and on and on. It got boring. The way she was describing herself and how into herself she was, she's self-centered and selfish. Sure, she's into her career and she's driven, but the way she makes it sound, the world might just end without her running it. I have zero sympathy for her that her ex called off their engagement and I kind of think she deserved it since she put zero effort into the relationship. I do believe that women can be successful and career-minded, but I also believe that relationships are a two-way thing. It's all about give and take and Liana was giving nothing to her relationship. And then when she got involved with Caleb, Mark, and Todd, well, by then I was so put off by her and her inner voice, I didn't want to have anything else to do with her. I usually love epilogues and even her epilogue was boring and another long rambling monologue about herself, her life, and her career. Liana takes being self-absorbed to the next level.
I liked this book a lot. It was a great quick read. I think it. Could've had more romance in it. It feels like a lot of the story is missing. There was not a long t of build up to the relationships.
