By way of an introduction, Muralee Thummarukudy heads the Disaster Risk Reduction team under the aegis of the United Nations. The book is a collection of his articles published in various Malayalam news papers over the years. Being an expert in the field of disaster management, most of the articles here are about the need for planning ahead, the need for an organized approach in urban affairs and also his views on various incidents that happen across Kerala. The articles are extremely readable as they are written in the simplest of prose and are peppered lavishly with humor.

You would be able to relate to most of the articles in here if you have a fairly good grip of the current affairs in Kerala and it would certainly add a new perspective to your thoughts. If not, you can safely give this a miss.

ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ലേഖനങ്ങൾ പത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒരുപാടു വായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. പല കാര്യങ്ങളെയും കുറിച്ച്, വളരെ രസകരമായി എഴുതി ശ്രദ്ധ പിടിച്ചുപറ്റുന്ന തരത്തിലുള്ള ലേഖനങ്ങളാണെല്ലാം. അല്പം തമാശയിലൂടെ പ്രസക്തമായ കാര്യങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് എഴുതുന്ന രീതി കാരണമാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം വാങ്ങി വായിച്ചത്. ലേഖനങ്ങൾ നല്ലതായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ഒരു പുസ്തകരൂപത്തിൽ വായിച്ചപ്പോൾ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ അല്പം മടുപ്പു തോന്നി. ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെയും അവസാനത്തെയും ലേഖനങ്ങളാണ് എനിക്കേറ്റവും രസകരമായി തോന്നിയത്. ഭാക്കിയൊന്നും മോശമല്ലെങ്കിലും പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചതു പോലെ ആയില്ല. അറിവുകളെ തിരിച്ചറിവുകൾ ആക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ എന്നു പറയുന്ന പുസ്തകം തന്നെയാണിത്. ഈ തിരിച്ചറിവുകൾ എല്ലാവരും പ്രാവർത്തികമാക്കിയിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ..... ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ലേഖനങ്ങൾ ഇനിയും എന്തായാലും ഞാൻ വായിക്കും. ഒരു പുസ്തക രൂപത്തിൽ വായിക്കുമോയെന്നറിയില്ല!!
