Omega Piper Gray has spent most of his life running from his problems. He figures the best way to be happy is to avoid emotional entanglements. Have sex. Move on. That’s his recipe for a long and fulfilling life. But when he gets word his estranged mother is dying, he’s pressured by his sister Trina to come home and help out. Since he needs to get out of Los Angeles anyway to avoid getting beat up by one of his lover’s boyfriends, he agrees to come home.
Alpha Sam Peterson is the manager of The Lazy Lemon restaurant and bar. When Piper applies for a job bar-tending there the two men have an immediate and undeniable sexual connection. But Sam is grieving the death of his sister and isn’t usually impulsive the way Piper is. However Piper can be persuasive and the two men give into their lust one night.
Piper figures this little fling with Sam will be the usual love them and leave them scenario. The problem is; Sam isn’t a player and he wants more than just a casual hookup with Piper. Sam isn’t afraid of facing his emotions and working for something real. Piper insists he isn’t interested in staying in town to pursue anything lasting with Sam.
The only problem is; his heart doesn’t seem to agree.
This 58,000 word book is filled with angst, male pregnancy, smexy times and lots of warm fuzzy feelings you'd expect from an mpreg romance from Beau Brown.
This was book 2 in the " Red Sky, Texas" Omega Piper Gray has spent most of his life running from his problems. While in living L. A. he gets a call from his sister telling him that his mother is sick and he needs to come home. Piper is a stripper who gets mixed up with a client and when his boyfriend finds out he runs back to Red Sky. He gets a job as a bartender. Alpha Sam Peterson is the manager of The Lazy Lemon restaurant and bar. These two have a sexual connection but Sam is grieving the lost of his sister and he isn't into playing around. Piper can't commit he doesn't want an alpha he didn't grow up in the best household. These two hook up one night after the bar closes and Piper figures its a one and done but Sam has other ideas and is hurt by Piper. When he begins to get sick Piper gets a surprise and bigger one when Sam decides to move on. This was a pretty good read when Sam finds out he is happy but not sure how Piper feels about it. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Absolutely Awesome Read, well written, great characters, Awesome story line, easy read to hold you on their journey, this genre might not be for everyone but its a really wonderful story cannot wait for more from this Author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good Son by Beau Brown is the second book in the Red Sky, Texas Series. It is a sweet and heated mpreg romance with emotion, humor, and fun characters. I had warm and fuzzies, anxious worry and excited giddiness while reading this one. Loved it!
Piper is the super hot bartender from book one. He returned home to help his sister care for their mom. Not to be outdone, Sam has his own reasons for being reticent. I won’t say what’s up as the mystery is part of the book’s charm.
There is a lot of grief in this one, but you don’t get buried in tears.
Another sweet story by Beau. The characters are well written, even if you want to slap some sense into Piper! Two hurting people heal each other. Love.
I really loved this book. I am glad Piper realised he could finally be happy with an alpha and that Sam was his happy ending. I really hope that this series continues
This was such a great book. The two main characters really balanced themselves out. Sam was my favorite, he definitely wore his heart on his sleeve. A must read
Like the first book in this series, this story appears to be a rewritten (but greatly expanded) version of a story originally released under the same title but under another author's name. (I assume it’s the same person/copyright holder using a different pen name, otherwise it’s massive plagiarism.) The descriptions are almost exactly the same, but this version seems to have been updated to include an alpha/beta/omega veneer, which is currently the hot sub-genre.
When I was reading this, I thought the a/b/o aspects seemed superfluous to the story and I wasn't surprised when it appeared the original work was not an a/b/o story. It appears the author did a bit of updating (there are a few scattered mentions of alpha and omega identities and traits), and the mpreg plot development towards the end is an important element in the story (possibly a major expansion?).
However, for those looking for a significant dive into a/b/o themes, one might be disappointed. I don't mind authors updating their works, and I understand they need to drive sales, but grafting on the latest fad to tweak the potential popularity doesn't sit well. I guess I feel it feels like false advertising.
My original review, before I realized this was probably a re-release. (I noted I thought it would have been better as a m/f romance than an a/b/o romance.) For those that don’t mind the light a/b/o touch or the lack of mention of the preceding story, than this could be a more positive experience.
Stripped of immaturity and guilt in order to step up to the bar
An omega stripper flees a jealous spouse to return to a hometown of his childhood abuse and a dying mother, and discovers an alpha barkeeper with his own issues. The story of growing up too early and too late, and thawing memories of guilt, makes a sweet, healing romance.
The A/B/O aspects are underplayed, incorporated in a small way in distrust of omega not wanting to be controlled, the one hot sex scene, and mpreg (important at the end of the book). Frankly, in writing this review, I almost think this story would be just as if not more interesting as an m/f story.
However, overall I found the general romance story and the characters resonated with me more than most A/B/O omegaverse stories, making me care about the couple more than most.
3.75 stars - original story enjoyment 1.25 stars - dislike of the tepid a/b/o graft 2.5 stars - overall
Beau Brown's Good Son is a riveting mpreg romance.
Piper returns home to help with his sick mother. He's never wanted to come back, but the timing is good so he decides to return for a little while. The reasons he left are all well explored and believable.
While there, he meets Sam who offers him a job in his bar. Sam's backstory is slowly unveiled, leaving me in tears.
This is story of self-discovery for both men. They have to work through their past pains, as well as commitment issues, jealousy, and a lifetime of fear. It's a beautiful story of learning to love and trust another with one's heart.
The writing is fantastic, with every word having a purpose. The pace is fast, the characters well developed, and the emotions high. The small town is well done, the side characters interesting, and the romance wonderful. Add in just the right amount of angst and it's a story worth reading.
Good Son is a compelling mpreg romance by Beau Brown. I highly recommend it to anyone you enjoys Omegaverse stories. Overall, I am madly in love with the Beau Brown's books and want more!
This was a well written Mpreg story that was well worth reading. Piper is an omega who left home years before. Being gay in a small Texas community and a mom who didn't like him being gay, he left to be on his own. Not afraid of hookups but afraid of relationships with alphas who would try to control him. Going home to a dying mother and running from an angry huge omega who threatens him bodily harm, he gets a job as a bartender. Piper meets Sam, the owner, but is afraid to make a commitment. Another omega steps into the picture, just as Piper discovers, he actually loves Sam and also finds out he is pregnant. Jealousy, fear of commitment, an alpha who isn't afraid of commitment, grief, death, and suicide all add to the depth of this story that makes it a page turner. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
First step is easy, that 2nd step is more like a leap! Piper, Omega bullied by his boyfriend & his friends needs to leave town. Good timing, his sister asks him to return home to care for their mother. Sam, Alpha manager of Lazy Lemon restaurant grieving the death of his sister. Piper indulges in flings, Same does not. They have an instant lust connection, but Sam is very wary. Sam wants more from their relationship. Piper is a committment phobe. Both men are severely damaged, but you have to wonder if Piper is redeemable. He acts out from his damage and it's a struggle to like him. What is going on with Adam? Does Piper grow up and find his brain? Does Sam relax a little and find his brain? Challenging story that makes you think and dig deep. Nicely done! I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.
I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, but I personally hate cheaters and people who cheat with cheaters, so the beginning of this book actually made me really upset. It would’ve been a little better if he seemed like he felt bad after screwing that one guy outside his job, but he ran and had no consequences. And lastly, nowhere does it say that Sam and Adam broke up. Maybe I missed it, but all Sam said was that he didn’t move in. I didn’t know that equaled breaking up. Honestly, I did like the book though and all the angst (the non cheating angst).
4.5 stars. This one is angsty! Piper is a mess. He lives a Peter Pan life of emotional immaturity, dodging feelings of any kind and running from any kind of connection. His head and his heart are a mess believing that love doesn't last if it exists at all. Poor Sam is carrying a huge weight of guilt. He's shut himself off from others believing he doesn't deserve happiness. Both men have broken parts and they make some major mistakes, but together they begin to heal. The ending left me with a smile.
I was super excited about three servings book in this series. I'm generally a huge newsy Brown fan, but this story disappointed me. There was so little time taken on developing the relationship between the alpha and the omega. And being told from only the Omegas viewpoint meant that the Alpha came across as wishy washy and weak. I hope the next book will be stronger than this one.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Piper and Sam. The author does a great job building the relationship and showing all the emotions and struggles they go through. He brings drama and lots of love and support and delivers a realistic story that had me hooked from start to finish. I enjoyed and would recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Piper's father was a drunk and abusive. Piper left at seventeen and never looked back. He doesn't believe in love and doesn't do relationships. His mother gets sick so he goes back home even if it's the last thing he wants. He gets a job as a bartender. His manager name is Sam. His sister committed suicide and he feels guilty that he didn't see the signs. Piper is attracted to him but is afraid to open up to him. I really enjoyed this book.
Piper was full of insecurities but he was a good man who recognised his issues but was eventually able to acknowledge them once he realised that with Sam's love and support he no longer needed to feel the deep need to run from his past and emotional intimacy as Sam was his home and future.
I barely finished this. Piper was a shitty character, selfish, imature and sluty. I did not trust his love for Sam, after keeping him away for 85% of the book bc love is not real and love sucks, he magically believes in love after he gets pregnant. I m with Sam I don t believe him. The only reason he wanted Sam was bc he was afraid to raise the child alone🙅🏻♀️
I really loved this book except when I got so mad at Sam I almost put it down. My heart was just breaking for Piper! I had to see it through to the best part and I’m glad I did! Can’t wait for book three!
Absolute perfection. All the feels! This book is an emotional rollercoaster. Sam and Piper have to work through some really tough challenges to find their HEA but it’s so worth it.
I was pretty let down by this book. Piper was unlikeable. The characters weren’t really fleshed out. Adam was mentioned one time and no follow up. The description of what a placenta previa is was dead wrong. I could go on but. You get the idea.
