The Ancients, a race of creatures between gods and monsters, are trapped in Canderfey. Fighting for their home, the University, and the remaining residents of the town, Joanna and her coven are in daily peril. When one of the Ancients escapes the boundary, the coven is separated, Isaac traveling in search of a solution to the turmoil of the summer.
As days wear on, can Joanna and her coven keep their warrior spirit, or have they been fighting too hard and too long? Perhaps the Ancients—older, more powerful, and impossible to kill—are an obstacle too enormous to overcome.
Will Canderfey be saved and the coven free to live in peace? Or will the cages, keeping Ancients in and magic out, crumble and set chaos loose upon the world?
Ancients is the stunning and emotional finale of The Librarian's Coven series!
Kathryn Moon is a country mouse who started dictating stories to her mother at an early age. The fascination with building new worlds and discovering the lives of the characters who grew in her head never faltered, and she graduated college with a fiction writing degree. She loves writing women were are strong in their vulnerability, romances that are as affectionate as they are challenging, and worlds that a reader sinks into and never wants to leave. When her hands aren't busy typing they're probably knitting sweaters or crimping pie crust in Ohio. She definitely believes in magic.

It all started with a library and a love of books. This was the hook that grabbed me and brought me along one of my favorite literary journeys . My love of books and reading provided an instant connection to my beloved Joanna, one of my favorite MC’s (and I am pretty sure my BFF, don’t judge, our relationship is real lol!).
I am not going to give spoilers, I am not going to try to encapsulate the beauty of this story into my own words. Kathryn Moon is THE Goddess of storytelling, this is her super power.
What I want to offer are a few reasons why you will fall in love with this series and want to come back, as if visiting family, time and time again.
• I am drawn to characters that have viable, believable connections. You know that this has been established flawlessly when you realize that you have slipped into the “fictional” relationships developed between the characters in the pages as if you are a part of their world, finding it hard to leave when you have to go back to real life. This story brings together all the different characters (along with all their different relationships) we have grown to love over the arc of the series and each play an important role in the finale of the series, staying true to who they were when we met them. That for me is HUGE! I hate when characters change to fit into a storyline, who I met is who I want and I am not disappointed here. Bravo. • You cannot help but get caught up into the brilliant worlds that Kathryn builds, each is a place so solid in description and feeling, you can’t help but want to go and visit physically. I am pretty sure I could do this if I had some chalk. • The introduction of the Ancients in Scrivens was such a great tease into the characters we get to know in this story. The addition to the already amazing “cast” we meet in the previous books this book gives adds exciting elements that keep you yelling in your head, “What is happening?!?” in the best way possible. There is no chance to get bored as you get to know the Ancients and are drawn into their relationship with the rest of our (yes our) coven, our covens friends, and their role in the story. • I want my OWN coven.
In the end (I am not crying, you are crying!), this final book wraps up the story, leaving me with a sense of fulfillment and happiness. I can now comfortably visit my Librarian’s Coven family and know that they are all where they should be. I am sad that this journey is over…for now. (That is my sneaky attempt to encourage our previously mentioned Goddess of storytelling to maybe share the stories of some of the others outside of our main coven!)
Gosh I loved this series so much! This was such a great final book, it made me cry! I love our coven and I really fell in love with a few side characters as well!! Namely Bryce and Bravery!!! (Bravery had me crying at the end) ❤️ such a comforting, cozy series. I see myself coming back to it again when I feel a slump coming on!
Yesterday I had too much of a headache to really focus on this book, but this afternoon I dove in it and refused to let go again. I already really enjoyed the first three books in this series and I was curious how the series was gonna end. Of course, I had a few theories and I'm very glad that at least one of them was right.
It's hard to review this book without talking about the other three books too. Because this book is the result and the sum of the previous three books. Every small little thing that happened, all the characters we met, everything we've seen and everything we've learned, it's all coming together in this final task and final trial.
Just like this entire book feels like one giant love letter to all the characters we've gotten to know so well. I personally feel like we've seen a little less of Isaac than of the others, so I'd love to have read more about him, but it's a very minor detail. Moon does an amazing job when it comes to writing down the dynamic within the coven, making sure to show that the love goes all possible ways, that it's a relationship between all of them. And she does an even better job when it comes to balancing the romance and the rest of the plot.
Because the rest of the plot was totally worth it too. I loved how Moon played with emotions, with their influence on us humans and the role they play in our lives, but also with the influence they have on each other. And I loved how the plot of defeating the ancients was truly there to have the characters battle a few of their very last inner demons, to make them into the strongest versions of themselves they could possibly be.
Thank you for this amazing series and thank you for recommending it to me when I asked for books that would fit my reading preferences! These books were indeed what I was looking for!
I just adored this entire series. Wonderful, 3-dimensional characters that struggle against their flaws while remaining personalities that I love. Open, affectionate relationships not just with partners but with friends. Really clever world building and a unique magical system that I just can't get enough of.
This series is definitely landing on my favorites list, and I know I'll re-read it again and again.
The 3rd book of this series had me so annoyed at where the story was and seemed to be going that I avoided reading this one for a year. I finally decided to suck it up and read it to get it out of my TBR pile, and it's actually good! The story is interesting, if a tiny bit rushed, the ancients are really fun and I wish we could have had a lot more of them in the other books than the other kind of slap dash plots, especially the last one.
Joanna was no longer mopey about not being good enough for the guys and was actually secure in their relationship for once, which was a nice change.
All in all, this was a solid end to a shaky series, so I'm happy to leave it here.
I can’t believe it’s over!! I love this series so much and the last book was everything I wanted it to be. I was so excited for the HEA that my heart is *still* doing flips over. You could say I’m over the moon about it. Har har. Very very well done, Ms. Moon!
Super emotional and clever, this was a great way to circle back to the covens bond, pave the way for their future, and draw them closer together to fortify their love and need for each other.
I cried a bit, was riveted by the climax and was truly saddened for it all to come to an end.
Things you need to do before reading this: 1 - read the previous books in the series, even if you read them when they were released, the world is better after a binge read 2 - keep tissues at hand 3 - make sure you have enough time to finish the book, no starting on a weekday unless it's your day off, sleep is overrated. Joanna's adventures come to a close as they find a way to defeat the Ancients that were unleashed by a naïve University President. With her usual band of allies, Bryce's coven and her own, and new allies in the Scrivens after restoring their reputations and proving their innocence. Inside a magic dome where only Scrivens magic work, our heroes need to find a way to contain the ancients before the cage unravels. We learn that the Ancients imprisioment is more complex than one thinks and all families have issues, no matter if their humans or magical beings. This book is the perfect ending, with enough threads left to weave a new story, but wrapping up the first year of The Librarian's Coven existence in a perfect way.
Honestly this took me FOREVER to finish. Mostly because I was sad to see this series end. Overall, it was a good RH series. I loved all the men and Joanna was a great fmc as well. This book technically is supposed to focus on Isaac this time around and he’s my top tier favorite man of the trio. For most of the series we get to see him act as the cool and calm mediator of the group. He is really the glue that keeps everyone together. In this book, we get to see how he struggles with his fear over being like his abusive angry father. While it was touched on through Isaac’s interactions with ANGER, I wanted more. More accurately I wanted to see more about his past and such. We saw it briefly in the last book when he woke up from his nightmare but it was alluded to at best. Another thing that I was kind of sad about is I honestly wanted more one on one time with Joanna and Isaac. I felt there were a lot more spicy scenes devoted to her and Callum or her and the group as a whole and I thought that Isaac was being a little left out here lol. Give this puppy man some love! I do understand though that this last book served to focus on resolving the Ancients problem and such so there would be way more action and plot with this one. But for once, I wanted more romance than action hahaha. The ending was very satisfying hea as well. Solid series.
Oh my words! I love, love, love this book. This series is so wonderful. I like how this final book picked up right where the third one left off. This is still a fun, exciting, sweet, and romantic adventure with witches, monsters(?), and an intricate, gorgeous, fantasy world. I adore the different kinds of magic, especially the wordsmiths, aka Scrivens. The resolution of the battle with the Ancients is... Poetic. Philosophical. Perfect.
This series began with an Ancient wreaking havoc, so it is fitting that things come full circle with the remaining Ancients. I also enjoyed how each book delved into one of Joanna's coven members' psyche. This one featured Isaac. (Book 1 was Joanna, 2 was Callum, and 3 was Aiden.) It also made me think some deep thoughts about human emotions and our extremes. The ending of this final chapter is satisfying on almost all levels.
I have mixed feelings about this being over, though. Yes, I am happy with the way things worked out. No, I don't want to leave the world of Canderfey, Rhodantis, Enmaire, etc. I still want to know more about Scrivens and their magic.
This was a spectacular and sweet end to a lovely series!!
The story continued on from book 3 with the Ancients wreaking havoc on the town and the heroes trying their hardest to save the day.
I feel like the covenmates grew up so much since the first book in the series and I’m so proud of where they ended up. Joanna started off so timid and insecure, Callum was so closed off, Aiden was arrogant af, and Isaac was almost too sweet and precious. By the end of the book, Joanna had become a total badass, Callum was kind and open, Aiden was still arrogant but he was softer and more understanding, and Isaac was still the sweetest of the lot but his strength and bravery really shone through.
I loved getting to spend time with some of the Ancients. The author put such interesting spins on Pride, Anger, Bravery, etc and it was such a fascinating part to the tale.
This series started off for me as a light “filler” series to read in between heavier books but it ended up being such a sweet, precious adventure and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I finally finished this series and I'm not sure why it took me so long to because this book and the whole series was great. But I finally finished and these characters finally got their HEA that was not just so long coming but hard won. I loved the world building and all the little details like the traditional coven parts and the circulation desk etc. This book was filled with action ( fighting in many different ways), perseverance , growth, why choose/reverse harem/ poly romance (plenty of hot times too), each ss, anger, surprise you name it. I absolutely loved this coven and how their story ended have me the warm and fuzzies. This is definitely a series to be read in order but that's no hardship. I would absolutely read another story in their universe about Bryce's coven or Geoff's coven of even one we never met because maybe we might see Joanna's coven in the background not to mention its just a enjoyable world /universe. Very good book would recommend.
This was a great conclusion for the series. I still would love to know a bit more about Bryce. I'll never know enough I'm sure. But I enjoyed what I was given as well.
The Ancients are really cool. I really enjoyed the lore behind them, and how their powers work and all of that stuff. It was a very fun treat to get that in this book. Overall, there were like 3 huge magic systems in this world, and the little tastes and insight we got into all of them were very neat. I love a good world-building exercise.
It was Isaac's turn to go on a walk-about in this book. Magic is still out of hand in Canderfey, and Isaac sneaks out to go find more Ancients to help them defeat and re-imprison the Ancients that are trapped with his coven. It was fun to see him standing on his own. He kind of felt like a device to bring everyone together, so to get more of his personality was a treat. I guess he's still essentially working to bring everyone together, but he's taking a much more active role in this book.
Tiny spoiler alert: Joanna gets pregnant and I couldn't roll my eyes hard enough. I'm happy for them, sure. I want them to have all of the things they want in life. And even the way in which she gets pregnant makes perfect sense. No magic in Canderfey means magical birth control is just tea, friends. But it did give me the grumps a little bit. I just don't love a surprise pregnancy in a book. For me or for the characters.
But overall the series was a delight and I definitely recommend to anyone who likes to read about interesting worlds and magic systems!
This is a very satisfying and exciting conclusion to this great paranormal series. I binged it, loving all the characters, and I'm so happy with the way it ended. Our coven must confront the Ancients, primal beings who have been caged in their woods for years and have now been set free. The Ancients are led by Warfare and include beings such as Illness and Shame. Isaac sets out to find their counterparts in a bid to persuade them to help in the fight against their brethren. Meanwhile, Joanna, Callum, and Aiden are fighting to maintain the college campus. I've really enjoyed the world of Candlefey and the diverse characters included therein. Not just the main characters, but the other coven members and the Scriven community. It's been a fun and unusual read in a different fantasy world.
I can tell this is Kathryn's first book series, in part because I see the roots of some of her other stories here, and in part because it actually has a lot of structural problems, plot holes, and dropped threads that I haven't experienced to this degree in her other books. I wanted a lot more romance and a lot less roaming around the countryside. I also wanted the whole setup with the ancients trapped behind a barrier to make sense, but alas, we cannot get what we want.
I do genuinely love the coven, their interactions together, and several side characters. But the actual plot didn't interest me, so this was a bit of a wash overall. I still love Kathryn, and I'm glad I read this, but it's far from her best.
This final book was a really great conclusion to the series. I had a harder time with the two middle books, but the way the Ancients were introduced and how the final solution panned out, I really liked the way it was all finished.
Joanna is pretty much a badass. I loved that she started as a person who had no magic to a really strong, impressive witch. Plus she is just able to connect with almost everyone in her life and she always wanting to help. The true philosophy of a librarian.
I loved how the ancients came together and were willing to do a major change to find a balance in everyone's lives. One of the best endings I've seen!
I'm glad I decided to read this series and I'm glad I bought the original covers to meet the author in July!
I was hesitant to even read the first book. The cover didn't interest me, and why would I find myself wanting to read about a librarian and her Coven? It seemed too normal, a bore to read.
I got sucked in and couldn't put it down. The writing is amazing, the plots enthralling, the characters wedged their way into my heart after I greeted them with open arms.
Though their love seemed to be insta in a tethered way, they still took the time to fall in love. That right there is what had me loving their romance. It felt so right, so true to their characters and was utterly refreshing.
I would love to read novellas of their future adventures!
Fantastic One of the best written erotic fantasy series I've ever read. Absolutely the best reverse harem novels. With this concluding novel we see that everything was plotted out from the start. Well done. Brilliantly done. I unequivocally recommend this series if you don't mind brief man on man action, usually with a woman present and enjoying the show. I feel the need to go back and rewrite my review of the the entire series, because I was so wrong to give book one only four stars.
I loved the beginning of the series, it had everything in it what I love to read about. Strong Heroine, super hot and confident Heroes, no ow/om drama and magic. But then from book 3 on forward things seemed to change. I would've loved if the books concentrated more on Joanna and her men and their growing relationship. Instead there was too much "fighting against other", "saving others" and so on. And then it ends abruptly and boom there is the epilogue. The truly interesting things were just glossed over or not even mentioned.
So this book we learned a little about the Ancients, book 1 was the first time we saw one when it was accidentally released. You can’t really kill them you need to discover their true name in order to have power over it and to put them back in their cages.
The story was ok better than the last two books being about politics, war and the unfair treatment of the refugees.
This book we finally had magical creatures to fight, unfortunately it did get slow at times. But those spice scenes helped make up for it.
They are a sweet family I hope they stay safe & happy.
The close to the Librarian's Coven. Joanna and the rest of the coven (and scribes and other magical people) are fighting a rearguard type action in a Canderfey cut off from the rest of the world. Issac leaves the rest of the coven behing (not on his own) to try to find other Ancients who may be willing to help beat/lock-up/solve the problem of Warfare.
It's great closure to the seires and all the coven members have grown throughout the series. I'll read these again.
I enjoyed the good bit about the Ancients lore and their reunion, their dynamic, it was so much fun. I love Isaacs so much, I didnt want to have favourites and I love Aiden and Callum equally, but Isaacs is ❤️
PS: there is a popular disliked trope in this last one, but its in the last book tbh I did not mind it.
This was a wonderful conclusion to a great series. The coven continued to grow and overcome astonishing obstacles on there way to their happily ever after ❤️ As usual the writing was wonderful and the characters each bring something unique to the fight.
I had a hard time finishing this one. The first three books were decent, but for some reason, I found this one boring. I wanted to find out what happened, but I had to do it in small doses when I would normally do long reading sessions.
I found it less boring and predictable. Plus, I was able to see really the links between the men of the coven, when they were hidden by Joanna's presence in the others books.
Incredible conclusion to this series. I fell in love with the main characters from the very beginning and I was far from disappointed. The love and passion throughout this series is gorgeous and I couldn't ask for a better ending.
