This is the follow-up to ’Learn Spanish with Paul Noble'. You can expect much the same format as the first course here only with the focus being, for the most part, on the Imperfect indicative, preterit and future tenses rather than the present indicative.

Preterit (being the simple past) and future are pretty self-explanatory but the Imperfect, which has multiple uses, is used here predominantly in its facility for describing a habitual action in the past (eg.Cuando vivíamos en California, escondiamos los cuerpos debajo del puente Golden Gate - When We used to live in California, we would hide the bodies beneath the Golden Gate Bridge.) and occasionally to describe an action that was going on in the past when another action took place (eg. Ron Burgundy hablaba con el hombre malo cuando el hombre pateó al perro de Ron del puente - Ron Burgundy was speaking with the bad man when the man kicked Ron’s dog off the bridge.)

On top of the new conjugations you’ll also learn some useful constructs like “Tener miedo a/de (to be scared to/of), Tener ganas de (To feel like something), a few conjugations of necesitar (to need) and odiar (to hate) and a bit more work on por vs. Para (the two different words for ‘for’) and so on.

So, verb-wise, after the 2 courses you’re about a quarter of the way through the different conjugations which, in my estimate, still leaves you at a mid-late beginner level. Grammar-wise, in general, you’ve hardly skimmed the surface and still need to get yourself a good theory book (or go to Studyspanish.com) urgently! That’s 2 audible credits or the equivalent of $50au (non-member price) for very modest progress. On top of that this course is priced very similarly to the first, which was approximately 5 hours longer (nearly twice the length). Value for money? I think not. I might’ve judged less harshly if both courses were sold together as a 20hr ‘Beginner’s’ course but, as they are, no valen el precio!

Brand new to the language? You’re better off listening to ‘Coffee Break Spanish’, ‘Showtime Spanish’ and then ‘Notes in Spanish’, in that order, while getting on StudySpanish.com or finding a good alternative source for Theory. I haven’t been on the site for a while but you used to be able to just copy/print all the theory at no charge. I used to listen to and transcribe everything of importance from the Coffee Break Spanish podcast too but that’s a young man’s game. A young man with too much time on his hands and a beautiful Venezuelan girl to impress!

Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend!

Once again, I love this approach and I'd recommend Paul Noble's courses anytime! The only issue I had with this particular one is the editing - in the review part at the end of the book, they didn't leave enough pause so you could answer. You just have to speak with lightning speed. That makes it impossible (for me) to use this section. Other than this, I think it was great.

(Audibook) Once again, a really useful book. I've been learning for over a year now, so not too much in this book was new to me, but the repetition is very handy and Paul has a way of simplifying things. For example, the different past tenses seem to have many rules, Paul gives a good understanding of one by making it simply '...used to...' and it's landed much better than other methods that other platforms have tried with me.

Sometimes slow between repetitions but I liked that they featured male and female speakers. Seemed geared more toward beginners with some familiarity of the language/lower-intermediates. Helpful phrases to be sure.

Excellent for slowly expanding vocabulary and practicing verbs in different tenses.

The repetitiveness helps build confidence in speaking, and the grammar builds as it goes and also has a great review at the end. The silence for answering is a bit long.

Este libro me ayudó mucho - muchas gracias Paul.

I have really enjoyed both books via Audible. It has helped me a lot and I recommend Paul's teaching methods/audio books to anyone learning Spanish! It is helpful having the two native speakers (one from Latin America and one from Spain) and it is at a good pace.

I need another installment now!
