Things have quietened down in the town that used to be Perfect. But stories reach Violet and Boy of five missing scientists. And then they discover something odd in the forest outside Town - a mirror maze hiding a huge castle. Creeping inside, they overhear a terrible plan - a zombie army is about march on Town. Can Violet and Boy save their friends?
I am from Kilkenny, a medieval, haunted city in the south of Ireland, which was the inspiration for the town in A Place Called Perfect. I write stories full of adventure because I get bored really easily.
A Place Called Perfect was my first book. It was published in August 2017 and was a Waterstones Book of the Month. It won numerous awards including Crimefest Children's Book of the Year and was nominated for the Irish Book Awards and Waterstones Children's Prize. The series is a bestselling series has sold over 230,000 copies in the UK and counting and is published in 13 languages to date. Perfect has also been optioned for an animated TV series by Jellyfish Productions. The Light Thieves is my new eco/tech adventure series that has just been launched to rave reviews. I look forward to hearing how it's received by the World at large. When I'm not writing or designing I'm hanging around with Robbie, my husband (who loves climbing mountains), my daughters Jo and Bobbie and our crazy rescue dog Tinky.
I enjoyed this more than the first book in the series but less than the second - it was a decent instalment but that's all it was nothing too special. I don't think the characters progressed a great deal which was a real shame. It was more grown up than the first book, there were some much darker moments.
It was a quick, fun read it was quirky and dark a nice pallet cleanser, I don't know whether I should just stop reading Middle Grade books at this point as I aren't getting enough from them anymore.
I would have enjoyed this when I was 10-13 but I was already starting with Stephen King at that age so maybe I've never been the target audience for this kind of book.
I got an early copy from Usborne because I love this series and always recommend it to kids in the bookshop I work at. This third and finale book is just fantastic, non-stop from the get go and had me in tears at the end! Also the letter from the author at the end was beautiful!
I just don't really have anything to say good or bad about this book. I really enjoyed the first two, so finally picked up this one on audio to get it off my TBR. I definitely know that I liked it less, but at the same time have no actual thoughts to give? Which I think might be down to the fact I consumed via audio. Going to keep this trilogy on my shelves because it's such a solid story!
wow ... this book is kinda weird but masterpiece at the same time! banyak bagian yang aku enggak mudeng (mungkin karena otakku enggak cocok buat sains), kayak waktu arnold ngejelasin tentang penemuannya dan dr. bohr yang bikin rencana penyerangan.
Wow, what a way to wrap this series up! It was engaging, adventures and full of imagination and heart! I loved the characterization of every character, major or minor, appearing in this story. The plot was captivating and dark, never underestimating the kids reading it. Violet's snark was strong in this one and I adored that!
I cannot help to feel both incredibly sad that this is the conclusion to the series but also feel extremely satisfied with how it concluded. I will for sure put this into the hands of every kid I meet along the way and return to the world myself over and over! I cannot wait for Helena Duggan to write more!
„Orange books”).
A bittersweet farewell, I am sad to see it go. The Battle for Perfect is a great ending to a fantastic trilogy. The build-up paid off and that is what matters in the end. I'm going to miss adventuring with Violet and especially Boy, who has still proven to be one of my favourite characters (along with Tom, they both somehow endeared me to them) but it's fantastic to see a series that isn't dragging itself out longer than it needs to. Three wonderful books, the second being my personal favourite, and a nicely wrapped up series. I look forward to seeing what Helena comes up with next.
It is a really good book 😊. I have loved all 3 of them and it is a perfect end to a perfect series. Violet has to go on a few quests because boys twin brother Tom is pretending to be him but violet doesn't know that.
I love this book so much. When I read the first book I knew if there was a sequel I needed to read it. Then the second one came out and I thought that was the last one so when this one came out I was so excited. Sadly, this is the last of the series but hopefully Helena will bring out other amazing books. My favourite part was at the end when Tom, Voilet and Boy were all at the graveyard. Also I liked when they violet and boy found the secret castle. I would rate this a 5/5 because it is one of my favourite books ever

finally the torture is over! i hate how in the book all the characters have huge monologues exposing all their plans while violet is hidden, listening to it. it’s just so convenient and lazy writing. the characters were annoying per usual and i almost tore out all my hair reading this. helena, please never write again.
At the beginning I want to warn you that in this review I will evaluate the whole series. I will put reviews under each book in this series so that more people can read it.
Well, where to start. Maybe first let me introduce what this book is about. What the whole series is about.
The series called “Perfect” is a middle grade fantasy and mystery series. You can say that there are delicate elements of horror. The series was written by the wonderful author Helena Duggan. It was her debut but how successful! Helena describes herself as pretty old woman, like 31 or something but her friends say she's never grown up, so like she's probably really only 13 in brain years. She writes stories for people her brain age and they are always full of adventure cause she gets bored really easy. – good reads author bio
A brief explanation of what this series is about: A Place Called Perfect concerns a young girl named Violet who moves with her family to a new town where her father has just been given what (on the surface, at least) appears to be the perfect job. The houses, gardens and inhabitants raise Violet's suspicions as they seem rather too good to be true. – children books Ireland
Here is a plot for each volume:
“A place called Perfect” - Violet never wanted to move to Perfect. Who wants to live in a town where everyone has to wear glasses to stop them going blind? And who wants to be neat and tidy and perfectly behaved all the time? But Violet quickly discovers there's something weird going on – she keeps hearing noises in the night, her mum is acting strange and her dad has disappeared. When she meets Boy she realizes that her dad is not the only person to have been stolen away...and that the mysterious Watchers are guarding a perfectly creepy secret!
„The trouble with Perfect” - Having uncovered the secrets that lay behind the spookily pristine town of Perfect, Violet and the townsfolk are enjoying their new freedom from the maniacal rule of the evil Archer twins. But have they really seen the last of Edward Archer? Why is Boy acting strangely? And who is masterminding a scary zombie army?
„The battle for Perfect” - Things are quiet in the town that used to be Perfect until Violet and Boy uncover more trouble brewing. Five scientists are missing and Town is about to be taken over by a huge zombie army. Can Violet and Boy save their friends? It’s a matter of life or death!

Now, maybe I will turn to the following topic: in what language is this book written. Well, the book is also because it is a middle grade book and it is hardly surprising that it is written in a very infantile language. Very simple and childish. Well, but in the end - such a genre. Each sentence is not deeply descriptive as in the case of, for example, Frank Herbert, which I described in the previous review, which I encourage you to read. The book is written in such a language that it reaches the young reader. It does not contain difficult words that someone would not understand. Has a lot of dialogues, and in fact mostly it consists of them? Overall, a debut book for young people. Nothing more nothing less.
Well, if we got into the language so quickly, now it's time for one of the most important aspects - the characters of the novel! The main character of the series - Violet is only a teenage girl (when she moved into Perfect, she was ten). Based on the covers of the series, it can be said that Violet has practically white hair or they are simply blonde. She has blue large eyes that stick out from behind big pink glasses. In the second and third volumes, she no longer has glasses due to some life situation. She is a very adventurous person, and for her age she is terribly brave. She is even ready to risk her life to save the town, family or friends. She is quite impulsive and easy to convince. She is always curious about the world, likes to ask questions but even more gets answers to them while experiencing them. She is an example of a person who prefers to learn from mistakes rather than obey her parents. In addition, she is very warm and nice. I personally became very close to her and became attached to her after these three volumes. She is a material for an amazing friend and I really would like to hug her!
Speaking of friends, now it's time for her friend, Tom or Boy, it depends on what volume we are speaking. He has brown or blue eyes. Hair black as pitch and has his friend, the raven. It depends if he is a Tom or a Boy. (I try as hard as I can to avoid spoiling the story. If you do not want to guess or know what is going on in the novel, scroll to the next paragraph.)
Coming back to the topic, Tom is very secretive as Boy. Boy is a pretty bad character same as Tom. However, they both have the same warmth and sympathies towards Violet, which is why I also became attached to them and liked them very much. With the rest, their story is beautiful.
Attention - minor spoilers may appear!
Twins. Torn souls. Dark and light. Giving death and life. And they're both practically the same. Seemingly completely different and yet so similar. I believe that the author should create a single volume describing the fate of Boy Tom and Violet all together. Calm, without much action or tension. It would be a good time to relax after a novel like this. In “Perfect”, each character is unique. But I was not as happy with any of them as I was with boy Tom and Violet.
Now, then, the most important topic: the plot! I am very excited to tell you about it. The plot is absolutely phenomenal. The story idea itself is great and very original. Completely not repeatable! Tea that causes loss of sight and glasses that restore this sight. Imagination that is kept in jars. Flowers with eyeballs as cameras. And a herd of zombies that are created in an invisible castle in the middle of the field by a couple of weirdos. Helena Duggan definitely has creativity like no other. The world presented is also great. Descriptions of the town, proper names, sometimes quite funny, descriptions of rooms, nature, everything developed the imagination. The lack of illustrations also helped in visualization.
Regarding the illustrations, let me now tell you about the book's edition and the cover design. All three covers are absolutely phenomenal. Each with its own theme and color associated with it. And common themes. There are eyes, Violet and Boy/Tom, town and glasses on each spine of the book. Well-designed details in the chapters as well and two pages from the inside of the book. All thanks to the wonderful illustrator Karl James Mountford.
Did I read these series well? And how much time did I spend on it? Unfortunately, I do not remember how long it took me to read the first and second volume, while the last volume of the trilogy took me less than two days. Probably the previous volumes took a similar amount of time so it's really not a lot. In general, I think one volume will take two hours, maybe three, calmly. But it depends on how old we are and how fast we read, and whether we like this genre of novels. Overall a great series. Very good to rest after, for example, heavy fantasy. Certainly not everyone will like this novel. I would not recommend this book to rather old people, but of course it is a matter of taste. I liked it very much and I'm really sad that this is the end of this story. I am counting on more from Helena Duggan and I encourage all young readers to read this book, it will be especially good to start if you do not read so much!
Town Assemble is coming!
Syukurlah *sambil mengelus dada.
Well,
Luvv <3
“He said from now on, he’s going to stick to making tea. It brings people together!”
No one knows how scared i am about the possible things might happen to the twins because i grow to love them since the second book.
Like everyone said, this is a perfect ending to close this series. It gave you the answer to everything that keeps you wondering since the first book. When i finished the first book the only thing on my thought is: "Why do the Archers the one who take control of everything?" despite some answers on the first book. The second book kind of answered the question. But then i'm still not amused. I know something big is actually behind all the things that happened. "Why Tom? Why not Boy?" this is the question that keeps me up all night (jk) (but i kind of keep thinking about this). Then the third book finally gave me the answer and i'm very amused by how things end.
I was kind of screaming when... when Boy is panicking, crying, kind of regretting things when Tom drank the poison. I was like, "Oh no... No... They just finally forgive each other, accepting eo as brothers.... Please don't separate them like this." And the last chapter is.... so heartwarming🥺❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
I love how Violet is like a glue to the Archer Twins! She sure got a nice friends there. I also love Anna and her imagination <333 Last but not least my dear William! I love him!
I'm so grateful that i finished this series! Can't wait to tell everyone they need to read this series of book!

Finally i've finished this series and this final book was absolutely awsome. It continously made my tension increasingly growing up since the beginning until to the end pages. . i like how the plot went on, the conflict and the final execution. The battle was really mind blowing. What i love the most of this series was that each book offered different creepy adventures and mysteries and properly executed at the end.event though in this final story, a raven character as tom's pet was distracted me a bit due to its role was less than i suppose to be, but it didn't reduce my amazing feeling as long as reading this book. . Beside the book covers are adorable, The three books of this series are really page turner, so i could finish each book in a brief times. As though I couldn't put them off even in a moment. This series badly addicted me. So I think i should say this is one of my favorite series so far in this year.
I think this is my least favourite out of the trilogy. I didn't feel compelled by the plotline as I felt like we couldv'e had more character development through another way.
However, I loved seeing different faces of Boy and Violet and seeing Town become one again working together.
It was a beautiful ending and heartwarming after everything they went through.
I want to say I loved this book like I loved the first one but honestly my interest just wasn’t there while reading this. It wasn’t a bad book but it wasn’t as amazing and intriguing as the first book. Glad to finally have finished the series though.
Omg this book is BY FAR a the best one out of the whole series. It has a perfect balance of science and fantasy which is AMAZING! Thrilling, it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I absolutely loved it! Highly recommend to anyone!
A perfect ending for a perfect series! I love this world! Its magical and science and weird and the characters sneak under my skin. I shed a tear at the end.
