Working as a partner in his family’s contracting company and raising his seven-year-old son alone, Eddie Montesano prides himself on doing everything on his own. But when Max needs help with a learning issue, Eddie will do everything in his power to help his son.
Even if that means biting back his pride and asking someone else for help.
But just because he turns to Max’s teacher Harper Kavanagh in a professional capacity, doesn’t mean he’s going to let his guard down around the beautiful, smart, single mother—no matter how enticing she is. After the failure of his marriage he learned his lesson: Relationships aren’t for him.
Except the more time he spends with Harper and her young daughter, the more he wants them both in his and Max’s life. Forever.

This was another winner in this series and this time we get the story of the shy brother Eddie who works in his family's construction company and is a single father to Max. He meets Harper who he has known since school when she calls him in for a meeting at the school to discuss her son and the meeting doesn't go well because she suggests that Max is different and needs to get tested and Eddie who had a hard time at school doesn't want his son to go through the same and accuses Harper of not being a good enough teacher, something that riles her temper.
Eddie and Harper were not friends in school, she was the intelligent and popular cheer-leader, while he was singled out and I got where Eddie was coming from when it came to his son, he wanted to protect Max from how cruel people can be. Plus, he is also dealing with his ex, who walked out when Max was 2, wanting to be a bigger part of Max's life.
Harper once had it all and then almost a year back, her beloved husband died in a senseless act of violence, leaving her and their daughter behind. OMG words cannot express how adorable Harper's (she's 2 and a half)daughter is, she's a spit-fire and I loved how she took to Eddie when he came to apologize and ask for Harper's help with Max. Harper was a nice person, reeling with her loss and wanting to help a student and when she starts noticing Eddie it is a betrayal in her eyes because even though she mentally knows that she will move on someday, she is not ready for that to be so soon and her reaction to Eddie's kiss was over the top and kind of sad and funny.
There is a tiny sub-plot with Harper's mother-in-law and how she is pushing away and hurting her husband in her grief and subsequent depression, hiding her pain behind a facade and how that comes to a head.
The romance is slow because both of these people are wary and when Harper moves forward, Eddie takes two steps back but I was invested in the book and characters and would recommend it.
Very good book with some emotional hotspots. Eddie is a single dad and pretty darn busy. When he gets a call from his son's teacher he finds out Max is having trouble in school. Harper wants to help Max but the attraction to Eddie is creating some problems for her.
Eddie is a single dad who has a really busy life. He feels lucky to have family around to help him with his son Max. His ex-wife had left them when Max was little but now wants to get more involved in Max's life. When Eddie gets a call from Max's teacher, Harper, he finds out that Max is having trouble in school. He discovers that Harper thinks Max has ADHD and wants to get him tested so he can have extra help. Eddie, who had problems is school himself and suffered from ridicule because of it, doesn't want Max treated differently than the other kids. He talks Harper into providing some after school tutoring for Max. He also feels an intense attraction to her. He remembers her from high school when she tutored him in English and he had a bit of a crush on her. But he also has some self esteem problems because of his learning issues and feels that she would not be interested in him. I loved seeing the way that his quiet ways frustrated Harper at first, but she soon learned that he would talk if he had something to say. He was pretty eloquent when he wanted to be. I really liked his patience with Harper as she dealt with the idea of leaving her grief behind. The more time that Eddie spent with Harper the more he came to care for her, but he was still having problems believing she wants to be with him. Eddie has some problems with his pride keeping him from asking for or accepting help that gets in the way of their growing relationship. The emotions as he faced his fears were pretty intense. I loved his go big moment at the end.
Harper is a single mother who is slowly getting over the death of her husband a year ago. She loves her job teaching. Max is a kid that she thinks is pretty special and she wants to help him get past his learning problems. When she meets with Eddie she is stunned when he refuses to accept her recommendations and furious when he accuses her of simply wanting to label Max rather than actually teach him. After a couple days they both calm down and are able to work out a plan for helping Max. This brings her into frequent contact with Eddie and she discovers that she is feeling things for him that she hasn't felt since her husband's death. This makes her feel terribly guilty and she tries very hard to push Eddie and those feelings away. I really liked seeing her accept that it was okay for her to finally move on. I enjoyed seeing her with her daughter, who was adorable but a real challenge to be around sometimes. Her heart was touched by how great Eddie was with Cass. His stubborn independence made her feel that he didn't really care about her. I loved the way that she stood up for her own needs and ended up getting her heart's desire.
There was a secondary story involving Harper's mother-in-law and her inability to deal with her grief over her son's death. Her obsession with appearances seemed to make it impossible for her to really grieve. This led to problems with her marriage and other relationships. It was interesting to see how this was handled.
This is the 2nd book I read by Beth Andrews. I liked the hot 🔥 & steamy scenes & what happened with Max. The rest of this story 📖 didn't grab my interest.
Not a bad book at all. If not for a couple things, this probably would be closer to a 3.5 for me.
Eddie is the single dad of Max, a seven year-old-boy who's having a lot of trouble in class. Harper is Max's teacher and she calls in Eddie to talk to him about the problems that Max has been having. Eddie had problems of his own when he was in school and he refuses to let Harper label Max as learning disabled. Between the two of them, they come to a compromise and Harper starts tutoring Max once a week in her home.
The chemistry between Eddie and Harper is sweet but the problems that crop up between them are completely fabricated in their own minds. This is realistic but a little annoying for the reader at times.
The biggest problem that I had about the story was in the final conflict . It doesn't make sense and is completely contradictory to the entire rest of the book. If I ignore that final section, I enjoyed the rest of the book.
This is a strong, quiet, moving story about Eddie Montesano, a single dad with son who struggles in school. His son's teacher, Harper, is a widow with a toddler of her own. Harper is chatty and outspoken. Eddie is grumpy and taciturn. They don't agree on much and neither is right all the time. I liked the family issues, the emotional conflicts and the balanced resolutions in this straightforward, regular-folks romance.
I enjoyed this book until the end....it just ended. No concussion, story just stopped. The author didn't let us know if the mother-in-law got the help she needed? If her and her husband were going to be okay? What about Max? Did he get the help he needed? Too many questions left to be a standalone book. I don't think I'll be reading anymore from this author if that's how she leaves her readers.
This book was a good read as the story was great & well written. Harper & Eddie were great characters & kept your interest. They lost there partners & each had a child. It was a hard journey to work out there lives but it ended well.
I love everything about this series. I love the characters, the plot lines, and the dialogue! This is a new favorite author and I cannot wait to read the next one!
This is a really great book and the writing is phenomenal. This story deals with some hard subject matter but the author handles each topic with care. I loved little Cass so much.
I have read three of her books from this series and love her characters but i find the endings finish abruptly. Would love a little more spice in the bedroom.
Divorced Dad, Eddie Montesano, has a 7 yr old son who needs special help. His teacher, widowed Harper Kavanaugh, tells Eddie this, but his own history as a boy who was labelled and teased for his own academic shortcomings causes him to refuse the help she recommends.
How each of these wounded adults face their own pasts and acknowledged their love for each other and their children is the kind of story that evokes heartfelt aww's and the wiping away of a tear or two.
"Caught Up in You includes warm, likable characters with a clear attraction to one another, and Harper's guilt over feeling the attraction so soon after her husband's death adds depth". (RT Book Reviews, rated 4 stars)
Single dad with ADHD son, just like him, Single mom with precocious 2-year-old, just like my Rocket Girl granddaughter. Conflict about dad's ex & mom's guilt & how to deal with boy's school trouble. Great story.
Eddie is a father to a boy who is having trouble in school. Harper is Max's teacher who wants to help him. Eddie had problems in school and does not want his son labeled. Can Harper convince Eddie that Max needs more help than they can give him?
A cute fast read that left me smiling in the end. Some tough issues were addressed, adhd, loss of a husband/son, grief, and an absent parent. I enjoyed the rollercoaster ride that I was taken on.
