What I Liked:
1. Who doesn't love carnivales 🤡
2. I liked that the chapters were separated by different characters

What I Didn't Like:
1. Cheesy dialog
2. Too many errors
3. Plot ended up being boring

Overall Thoughts:
Sometimes you know a man wrote a book when he has a woman in heels all day. Plus there's a part where she climbs a tree in a dress with heels. No sir. You know how hard that would be and her legs would be ripped up.

There were several moments where the author forgot things. Husband mentions her having blood on her shirt but she's in a dress.

I am completely confused about this fence around a traveling carnivale. It's so intense that people have to dig under it to get inside or climb a tree. Does the carnivale put in a permanent fence everytime they go to a town or are you putting the carnivale on fairgrounds? Most traveling carnivales are in open fields and usually just put up that fake fencing around.

In the book the Ringmaster says that they don't visit locations more than once but in the beginning of the book a older lady stops Isabella and day's “Oh,” she said looking at us oddly for a brief second before turning to look up the street. “I forgot that that noisy bunch was in town. They come around every year. You can walk there if you’d like. It’s just up this road here. Take a right turn, and it will be up on your left.”

Why is everyone smiling in this book? 34 smiles mentioned.

All these people just disappearing and no one noticing. Plus they go through animal trainers like it's nothing to find someone that can work with tigers or elephants.

It was at a certain point where Jug is telling his fiend clowns to hunt down a woman and he knows nothing about where she is that I thought I was reading a Joker comic. It's such a classic Joker moment where he tells them to do something, someone questions him, and he kills him.

45% into the novella I was bored. We now have gotten away from the carnivale to have Jug obsessed with finding his sister and murdering her before she kills him. I didn't understand why he sent his goons to find her when he's this magic tracker and he knows what she looks like. Why not do it yourself?

Final Thoughts:
I thought this book started off okay but it turned into a totally different story once Jug turned Ringmaster. I didn't care for his weird obsession that felt very Michael Myers/Laurie Strode.

Recommend To People Who:
• Have Kindle Unlimited
• Love carnivales
• Mild gore horror scenes
• Novella's
• Short chapters

This book started so good. It begins with a newlywed couple, very much in love, leaving their room to visit a Carnival. After enjoying the show and activities, they get their palms read and fortunes told. The teller gives them a grim outlook, and asks them to leave. Then the newlywed's diamond goes missing. They return in search of the jewel, and their nightmare starts.
Then the book goes to part 2: a story of the ringleader.
Then another part tells the fortune teller's story.
Then another part tells the ringleader's sister's story.
Not that I didn't enjoy the other parts of the story, the first part was my favorite, and I don't feel like I got the ending to that.
Creepy cannibal clowns and a morbid ringleader contribute to this book's violence, but I wanted more violence and less background. That's just me. It's a good story, and I know I'm weird for being so thirsty to read of blood spill... Overall, it's a good story

Read for Castle Terror 2023 Monster Mash Challenge: Man on the cover

I liked this story, but there were some problematic aspects in the storyline, mostly the fact that although it is discussed at several times that this is a traveling circus, there is a fence around the circus so intimidating that people have to dig under it. I had trouble getting past this annoying fact. Other than that, this was a great read.

Carnival of Terror

This is certainly to stuff nightmares are made of! Killer clowns, maniacal giant men, fortune tellers that are real & wild animals that seem to be as evil as the rest of the circus folk are!! By day the circus seems like a normal everyday event, but as night falls, people start to disappear and aren’t making it out alive!
Prepare for all things terrorizing to occur when the sun goes down! The book started out so nicely too, but after the couple on their honeymoon decides to go to the circus that’s in town, well let’s just say no one leaves the circus alive after nightfall!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow .. I am SO glad i picked this book up. Carnival Of Terror is a horror novel, so please be sure to check trigger warnings. There are some taboo, twisted, truly dark things happening in this book. But those of us horror fans, that's all the norm, right?

Carnival Of Terror is set up in multiple parts and told through a few POVs... which makes it so easy to read and stay engaged with. Breaking up the story to add a new dimension almost. It's obviously based around a circus crew that does some truly horrific things after the show is over.

I'm going to check out other books by William Joseph asap, because holy hell, this book was so good.

I feel bad giving a one star review, but I found the writing style painful and the plot preposterous. A couple of the characters’ behavior was completely ridiculous and not even remotely realistic.

I’d heard good things about this book in some horror groups I’m in, but I felt that the writing was elementary…so many stylistic pitfalls, way too many adjectives and adverbs, clunky wording, etc.

The over-the-top plot, improbable characters, and bad writing kept taking me out of the story. Wouldn’t recommend.

For transparency: I met the author William Joseph in May of this year during an author book signing. He is so nice and super chill. I purchased a signed copy of this book, then read it on KU to make sure this man who works incredibly hard to share his art got paid twice.

I have only recently started reading horror and don't have a lot of past books to reference. As a newbie horror reader, I liked how this book was written and the various POVS. However, I feel like it left a lot for your imagination.

This story is broken into 5 Acts with 5 POVS all of which are connected in the end.

Act 1 features a couple Victor and Isabelle. They gave me some serious Brad & Janet vibes. I wanted to yell asshole so bad. I feel like certain personalities bring out one's dark side and these two made me wat to roll my eyes until I heard a pop. I found so much joy in their adversity.

Act 2 provides the villain's backstory. I loved this. I have always been a sucker for villainous coming of age stories.

Act 3 follows the fortune teller. This character was frustrating to me. She's so mysterious and even having an entire act I was still left with so many questions.

Act 4 follows a very key player that connects all the other characters. I got a high school horror movie vibe with this one. If this was a Tarantino or Guy Richie movie this would be the part when the energy level drops off the map.

Act 5 was the bestest. It gave me a Kevin Smith Yoga Hoser's vibe. It was all girl power, blood, and gore. Very unexpected events and lots of SMH You were warned energy.

Overall, I would recommend this book. It wasn't Stephen King level terrifying, but it had a lot of WTF, disturbing, and funny moments.

It's been a long time since I've read something other than a romance novel and let me tell you...this 5 part story was the perfect book to start with! This book is freaking incredible from beginning to end.The attention to gory detail, the suspense, the all out psychoticness of it was thrilling!
As a lover of dark literature in general i absolutely loved Jug.Being inside his mind was like being in the mind of a psychotic serial killer and was insanely intense...He will have you questioning your morals for sure lol The clowns...oh the clowns..I swear i would physically hear the circus music and evil laughs while reading this.I'd see the faces of the clowns and other characters. He put in so much incredible detail that my imagination went wild.
Heart pounding, soul clenching terror.I loved every single second of it!
I highly recommend this to horror lovers, adrenaline junkies and anyone who loves a good soul shaking scare.Hot serial killers...Yes Please!!Killer Clowns...very yes please.Being able to sleep after reading this...not an option!

The cover of this book was incredible, and from the very beginning of the story, I had such a creepy feeling of foreboding. Things got terrifying rather quickly after that and I was totally along for the ride. I enjoyed the flow of this dark story as I read part after part. Jug's reign of terror certainly made things even more interesting and I couldn't wait to see how things would conclude.
My only criticism of this book was that there were several instances where plurals and possessives were confused and/or erroneous.

“The clown may be the source of mirth, but who shall make the clown laugh?” -Angela Carter

Attention Cannibal Circus Clowns!!! Ya better watch out, cause Shiloh and Olivia will kick your asses!

Such a gruesome and awesome tale of savagery, definitely add this one to your reading list.

One thing that bothered me the whole time I was reading: why is Isabella walking around wounded with one high heel on?! Take it off girl!!

This was interesting!!
It was weird but cool! I haven’t read anything like this in a while, if at all, but it was entertaining. I liked how each part had the different point of view of someone involved, because it meant that you got to see lots of different aspects of the story.
I liked how Jug trying to stop their old woman’s prediction and their downfall is exactly what caused their downfall, that’s a cool twist.
I would only say I wish it had more of a complete ending than that what it had, but yeah.
Creepy but entertaining.

For me this book starts strong and ends strong it's just the middle that had me slightly bored, while there are many triggers in this book there was simply not enough of the gory horror type stuff for me!

What do you get when you mix an outcast runaway teenager, an existentially corrupt circus and some brutal teenage girls on a vigilante mission to find answers and justice? Sprinkle that with humor, gore, desperation and depravity and you have an international bestseller turned trilogy by William Joseph called Carnival of Terror.
Going into this I already knew this was a duology with a third book in the making. This added so much to the anticipation as this 228 page story came to an end. You meet Christopher a teenage runaway who becomes mixed up with members of a circus following closely in the footsteps of the ringleader and taking on the new name, “Jug”. Everything and anything is all downhill from there as Jug moves up in the social ladder among the circus members and hierarchy eventually taking the circus over as his own. Later, you meet Shilo, a teenage girl left home alone while her parents venture off for a vacation together. Not all is as it seems when Shilo finds herself cast into the circus as well. What transpires before during and after is a truly magical and gripping experience.
This story had meticulously crafted characters and the world building is next to immaculate in its conception.
If you are a fan of creepy clowns, vigilante justice, the underdogs taking over in more ways than one and a series that will truly have you on your toes from start to finish this is the one for you.

6/5 stars from me and highly looking forward to reading the second and eventually third book in this series

When you were a kid a circus and carnival was a fun time. Who didn’t like going to one? But did you ever wonder what went on when they were not putting on shows?

This book is a tale about a circus and it’s dark secrets that come with them. Always traveling from town to town. This story has many characters. I loved that you get to see it from different points of view. Some from the people who are visiting. The ringleader himself. A different, darker circus that brings horror to everyone.

I love Joseph’s writing style. It has the right amount of detail for your mind, you feel like you’re watching a horror movie in your head. To me this book is Stephen King meets Tales from the Crypt. Which I love both and spent many hours watching or reading. If you dare to see what goes bump in the night at the big top, I highly suggest reading this book.

The book opens with a quote by Angela Carter ~ The clown may be the source of mirth, but who shall make the clown laugh? I love it!

As stated in the above synopsis, this book is told in five parts from five different perspectives, which made the book chug right along.

In Part I we are introduced to two newlyweds on their honeymoon in Tennessee. They decide to visit the circus in town, and thus the story begins.

In Part II we meet a 14-year-old runaway who becomes the Ringleader's personal assistant, who just so happens to have a secret talent.

In Part III we are told more about the circus Fortune Teller.

In Part IV we meet Shilo, who is home alone. . .

and Part V is the climactic finale!

This is one of those rare books that comes along and creeps you out. Its like the author done a poll of people's worst fears and chucked them all in one book.
Spooky clowns, tick, giants, tick, weird mystical fortune tellers, tick.
It follows a couple on their honeymoon, then the arrival of a troubled young man, and finally a young girl who is kidnapped from her home.
It all links and builds up, leaving little clues along the way to an action packed brutal conclusion. The best book of its kind I've read in a long time.

What a wicked ride.

I have this book 5 stars because it was a well written and thrilling page turner. I couldn't out this book down, I just had to know what was next. The story was different and that really grabbed my attention. The characters were all different but in some aspects the same. He brought the clowns, what is a circus without the clowns. They truly deserve center stage. Love the ending. Will definitely be checking out more by this Author.

Can we talk about the wonderful page turner this thriller turned out to be. The cover obviously drew me in, it has a great joker kind of feel to it and I love it! I really liked the character development behind the clowns and what happens after the carnival closes up. I absolutely loved the world building and fun crazy plot! It was such a fast page turner I read it in one sitting! I absolutely recommned this to everyone!

Do you like Carnivals? Do you like crazy scary Carnivals? Then you're gonna like this one.

William Joseph takes us on a journey of a mobile Carnival. The story is told from different perspectives and I think that really made the story unique.

First we are introduced to a couple that decides to enjoy a day at the Carnival in town. Unfortunate for this couple, the Carnival is not what it seems and, well, sometimes when you lose something valuable, you just need to take that L.

Next we see things through a runaway who decides that joining the Carnival is a way to keep moving further from his life as possible. Once he's invited to join the team, he starts planning "The Takeover".

Lastly, a young girl who was seen in an old woman's vision. She becomes a target and doesn't understand why. But we the readers, we know why and we get to see everything unfold.

Mr. Joseph will make you never want to visit a traveling Carnival. His detail in how things go down will make you think twice when it comes to enjoying something that's only around temporarily.

I was lucky to win an Audio version of the book while I was mid-read and I enjoyed it very much. Michelle Araya did a great job in the narration.

Have you ever been to a circus? Fun,  games, laughter, binge on delicious junk food, fortune telling and let's not forget about what goes on under the big tent. Wild animals, lots of clowns, ringmaster and unusual people with different talents. But what happens once those gates are closed for the night? Or the people left behind? Or people who try to sneak in? After reading this story you might want to think twice. It would make a good Tartantino movie.
This story is broken down to five acts and povs.
Act 1 an inside look of what happens when a couple on their honeymoon return to the circus after hours looking for a list ring.
Act 2 meet Jug a young runaway who becomes the ringmaster's assistant.
Act 3 the Fortune Teller and her predictions
Act 4 Shilo who is kidnapped
Act 5 the grand finale. Sweet revenge.
This not for the faint of heart especially if you are afraid of clowns.
Gruesome bl00dy details that will keep you intrigued from beginning to end.
This is a new author to me and I plan on reading more of his works.
